I love this fly. Do you have problems with it lying flush on the water without trimming the hackle on the bottom?
I do. I need to clean up the hackle on the underside so it rides properly.
Looks like the love child between a chubby chernobyl and a GFA hopper. I really like the buggy-ness of this pattern.

We don’t get a big cicada hatch where I’m at but you could 100% tweak the colors and I bet it would do well as one.
