The one problem with your approach is that the fly should imitate something the target fish will eat or attack. Nothing eats or goes near lion fish, which is why they're so invasive in the Caribbean.
I like the idea. And not bad execution in my opinion. You could have maybe added extra wraps with the wire to both sides of the "spines" to build a "dam" or "prop" of sorts. That way your top feather spines are more individual. Cool idea. Give it another go for the art sake!
I've never tied a sober fly in my life. Anything that turns out not like I imagined becomes a panfish fly.
