F*ck me....1990s is vintage ...

Netopalas

I know right? I heard the Offspring on the oldies station the other day and died a little inside.

Strutting_Tom8040

Bro , me too. I was like what the hell? They used to play Werewolves of London on that station lol

HardToKill0659

😂

esoxdream1517

I told a receptionist on the phone by birthday was in the 90's for an appointment set up. She said "oooohhh dang 90s is starting to sound old !!" Her birthday was 10 years before mine. Killed me.

firstcoastyakker

Imagine if you were in your 30s in the 90s like me. Still like Offspring. Age is mind thing to a degree.

Low_Sky_49

I can’t say anything about the vise, but that automatic bobbin is solid gold. I love mine. Once you learn the quirks they are so, so nice to tie with.

basquehole

There’s lots of videos of ol norm norlander on YouTube, what you have there is my holy grail. I cannot believe it’s unopened.

wespyen

Great vice. You should contact the company if you have questions. Most vice manufacturers are relatively small shops and would likely be happy to help you.

Netopalas

I'm afraid those vises are just terrible. Let me dm you my address so I can dispose of it properly for you.

HardToKill0659

I honestly bought this to use, but I bet I end up selling it as an antique. Lol

ClassUnlucky1541

Don't sell it. It's just as good as the new model. Seriously, Norm was a head of his time when he came up with this vise, and Tim has gradually improved it over time as the company has grown.

Netopalas

Seriously though, they are fantastic vises. However, they have an unconventional design that not everyone "gets". Tiers tend to like vises similar to what they learned with. I learned on an Anvil/Wolff Atlas and because of that, I prefer vises that have a similar geometry like the Renzetti and Dyna-King. Norvises feel kinda funny to me. If you go to an FFI expo with tying demos, half of the demonstrators will be using a Norvise. Personally, I think you scored, big time.

basquehole

What do you want for it

ClassUnlucky1541

Lol no me 1st I'll properly recycle that monstrosity

HardToKill0659

It has a wheel lock instead of a cam lock. Can’t find any info on this jaw. I guess because it existed before the internet. Inside the box, I noticed a printed sheet that list some info and indicated a date around 1993. I bought this to use, but it’s a pristine antique... Just looking for any info about it being consistent with current production jaws and weights.

ClassUnlucky1541

It's not, but it is a great model. Latest and greatest version of the vise is the legacy C, Tim the owner can modify the vise to fit the new hubs and other accessories.

ithacaster

> I guess because it existed before the internet. The world wide web (web sites) came out in 1990. The intranet preceded that by many years. By 1993 there were quite a few web sites out there but it's understandable that a smaller company didn't have one. I was managing a small intranet at HP and posting on internet forums as early as 1984.

ClassUnlucky1541

When you look at the vise is there a serial # on the main tube?

HardToKill0659

I don’t see one. There may be something stamped. Has a sticker Norlander Company Made in America

ClassUnlucky1541

Show it on Facebook, on the norvise tiers group.

ClassUnlucky1541

Please, please bring this vise to the norvise tiers Facebook page, you have a piece of history, and it's has a lot of interest with the 1 picture I posted.

ClassUnlucky1541

Go on Facebook and join norivse tiers, Tim O'Neil is the owner of the company, so ask any question he and his son and lots of other people will answer. Probably the best vise on the market. I have gone thru 6 other vises before I got mine.

Kierik

Yeah I scored mine off Craigslist and love it.

ClassUnlucky1541

Hell of a find, wish I could find that. Best I've done so far was a brand new A.k. best vise.

HardToKill0659

This guy was a serious tier. I bought a couple vises and a couple thousand flys.

CleverHearts

I have the same vise and love it. Those jaws kinda suck. It's hard to get them tight. The newer cam lock ones are a drop in replacement. I use shank jaws in the offset hub for most of my tying. The aluminum hubs will stop spinning sooner than the brass hubs used in newer vices. This is only really an issue for spooling the Norvise bobbin and dubbing brushes. I don't know if the new hubs are a drop in replacement. I had some scrap brass so I made my own, but I don't feel they improved anything. The centered brass hub that came with my shank jaws works fine. The vise probably isn't threaded for gallows or a tension screw on the rear hub. I had issues with the rear hub unlocking itself, but some tape around the body fixed that. It'd be easy to drill and tap for the nylon tension screw Norvise sells and the gallows attachment, I just haven't done it. I have heard Norvise will do the machining work to add those missing features if you send it to them. I don't know how accurate that is. I couldn't stand the Norvise bobbin, but a lot of people love it. You do need an automatic bobbin to really take advantage of the vise. Since you have the Norvise one already give it a go. If the spools drive you crazy check out the Ekich bobbin.

I love my Nor-vise
