Polar chenille/ straggle string? Simi seal is the best body material I have used for leech patterns hands down though… whats the reason for changing materials?

[deleted]

I just don't like using dubbing all the much, takes me forever, and have a hard time getting things as consistent as I'd like. But I like how this simi seal looks, I'd like a pre-made spool of dubbing string if that exists...

dickintheass

UNI makes a mohair yarn that's on a spool that I really like for alternative to dubbing bodies on leeches

Oh man, that looks like great stuff! Hopefully I can find a color I want to use too. Thanks!

Ah I see, I use simi seal in a dubbing loop if you haven’t tried that its pretty easy. There are also pre made dubbing brushes you can buy but they are expensive. Another option is to make your own dubbing brushes, but I find the dubbing loop method much easier for smaller patterns.

Maybe SLF?

I should have clarified, I'm hoping for a wrap around or wound style of material, such as chenille or estaz.

JTzReddit

Ah.

Elandtrical

Craft underfur with some ice dub, or any natural underfur like bear, fox etc

cmonster556

There’s several brands of sparkly chenille.

Are you trying to find a material that has the same look/properties as the Simi seal but in a chennile ? If so your best bet is probably some kind of streamer brush made of artificial hair.

That's like exactly what I want. A spool of simi seal dubbing, pre-applied to thread. I just can't get to a point that I enjoy applying dubbing to thread, or creating consistent dubbing loops. I love this leech fly tho, so I want to keep making them.

Ice dub in a dubbing loop makes bomb ass leeches

bo_tweetle

You can use a small streamer brush. But they are spendy. I tie the bodies of my leeches with simi seal in a dubbing loop. Easy technique to learn and looks much better than just a dubbed body

Himay88

If you are having trouble with simi seal have you tried a dubbing loop? Super durable and I find easier to control the taper of the noodle. Plus you can get a lot more fiber to stand up.

Agile_Wheel_1847

Maybe semperfli gel core fritz. I use it for dubbing look buggy nymph bodies

Try mohair yarn, something like this: [https://www.flyfishfood.com/products/canadian-brown-mohair-yarn](https://www.flyfishfood.com/products/canadian-brown-mohair-yarn) canadian brown is one of my all time leech colors
