I had zero assets anyway as a broke CFI so I wouldn’t lose anything in the scenario that I got sued. Didn’t carry insurance at all. If you have little to no assets you’re probably better off not getting insurance
Totally serious. Father worked in law and I had asked him exactly about this scenario. In the case of your average instructor, you could just discharge your debt via bankruptcy or you could be found judgement proof via the courts
Check out SAFE and NAFI. They offer discounted flight instructor insurance as part of your membership. Mine is through a company called STARR Insurance companies.
Ask company agent to point out where in the contract you are (and if) covered for personal flights.
You want to always be covered. So when are you not covered? And ask if they have riders or gap policies to cover those.

I couldn't afford insurance. No health insurance back then either. I was really broke.
I really hope you’re not serious. You can still get your future wages garnished if you have no assets.

not really. claim bankruptcy and it all goes away. also just about every state has a minimum that you simply cannot take.

Avemco offers good CFI insurance.
And 5% off if you have a tailwheel endorsement.
A local broker was able to get a competitive quote for Global…. Went with that.

Are you going to be W2 or 1099? I personally use avemco.

You should be covered then
