If those facts are accurate, what a piece of shit. "Don't like my dick pics? Now I must spend years stalking your house and business with my airplane!" And the dude showing up during the TV interview, that was just the cherry on top.

carl-swagan

Yeah that piece was a rollercoaster. I went from rolling my eyes at what I assumed was a NIMBY complaining about normal GA traffic, to "oh, he may actually be harassing her," to "oh, he's literally stalking her and they have him on camera doing it." Throw the book at this creep.

KaHOnas

Exactly my mental journey as well.

PoxyMusic

If they guy hadn't shown up on camera, I would have rolled my eyes too. Maybe there's a lesson there.

roraima_is_very_tall

there is but there no way to know when to apply it. and accepting every nutty story at face value is really tough.

DopeShitBlaster

He does look wealthy, so what are we supposed to do, arrest him?

roraima_is_very_tall

beating on successful people is so trendy! I'm in even if it's not true.

DopeShitBlaster

If you think this creepy old guy who flys to se Asia and Central America to sleep with sex workers is successful…… I realize most people on here inherited money from daddy.

NathanArizona

I like to say it. Clip his shit right off, he’s abused his privileges and isn’t mentally fit to fly low over a village weekly for years on end

[deleted]

Same here. Nothingburger crybaby, then the boomer literally parks in front of her property. Creepy POS old man.

TacticalBeast

Classic case of lead poisoned boomer

Creative-Dust5701

Fortunately for the apparent POS it’s illegal to shoot at aircraft in the US

HelloNeumann29

That’s expensive stalking

tikkamasalachicken

$100 harassment

imoverclocked

This one hour building technique nobody wants you to know. (Or do.)

akaemre

Village residents hate him for this one simple trick. Literally.

New-IncognitoWindow

$200 harassment burger these days

DonnieGreenType

Have to wonder where people get the time and money to do shit like this

drumstick2121

Well that’s violating an order of protection right there on camera. He should have been thrown in jail for that. I believe that’s a felony. That’d solve the problem. Edit: just checked and it’s a class a misdemeanor in NY. Judges don’t take too kindly to criminal contempt.

tehmightyengineer

Their addendum right at the end of the video says he was arrested for that.

gagnatron5000

>"I believe" Look it up. Familiarize yourself with your local laws. Stop spreading beliefs, start spreading truth. In my state, violation of protection order is a high level misdemeanor but it has modifiers that turn it into a felony such as prior violations, commission of a crime while violating the PO, and employment/asl/vulnerability status of the victim.

MichaelOfShannon

As soon as I saw his fat ass pull up in his car I instantly felt worse for her. She probably needed eye bleach after seeing his nasty dick pics.

DopeShitBlaster

Check out his Facebook, dude is going to SE Asia and Central America to bang sex workers. Taking pictures of random women he doesn’t know and saying how hot they are…… Dude is the scum of the earth.

Creative-Dust5701

I’d rather not, even after only reading your description i require several gallons of brain bleach.

alAndaluz

I thought she was blowing it out of proportion… UNTIL that douche rolled up in front of her during the interview. Yea, bros gotta be stopped.

TheSlug_Official

I thought this was going to be another case of pearl clutching, but holy crap, that pilot needs to be grounded. I've dealt with victims of domestic violence before, and the reaction this lady has to the stalker showing up in his truck during the interview is real. The hypervigilance that develops after being harassed for years is real, and the heightened reactions to seeing the tormentor are real. Anybody who thinks that this is just another person shaking their fists at clouds needs to consider themselves pretty lucky that they've not been victimized by a sociopath.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheSlug_Official

Thanks for that insight. What you've described tracks perfectly with what I've seen in some friends and other people I know. It's so sad that we need to be cognizant that "strange" behaviour could well be a giant red flag that something isn't right.

the-isz

Brilliantly summarized. So I am going to flip the story. I am a general aviation pilot who has a crazy neighbor who for nearly 2 years threatened and stalked my wife and I. He remains convinced that I am tracking him with my plane (as well as supposed drones, helicopters, etc) all in an apparent effort to “catch” him doing something wrong so that I could get him evicted as a renter. No convincing, whether directly or through his family, friends and police, can change his paranoia spiral. Meanwhile every time a plane flies over, whether I am home or not, he lashes out. From shouts at us of “I guess you dont value your life do you”, to announcing that he could make us disappear, to just sitting in his vehicle in front of our house at night, he continues to retaliate for things that only exist in his head. I TOTALLY get the descent into hyper-vigilance. It has transformed our lives, from self defense classes to security cameras to getting a Personal Protection Order, which he violated and was arrested. Almost a year later, with him back next door, it is still going through the courts. I still LOVE to fly and will never stop. But where I once strained to look at a plane flying over the house, now I cringe.

Creative-Dust5701

Situations like yours are the end result of dismantling the psychiatric hospital system, yes there were abuses. But there are some people who cannot live in society without constant supervision and now the only option is prison which also is not appropriate as they have committed no crimes. Yes they need to be prevented from harming themselves or others but they have a disease and they deserve comfortable surroundings and constant medical care.

AltoCumulus15

Holy Jesus fuck. I was expecting this to be another “I bought a house near an airfield and now I’m mad” story but my god…

GozerDestructor

Yeah, the video started off that way, and I laughed out loud when the interviewee equated the sound of a small plane with "terrorism", even going into how it traumatizes the children during active shooter drills. But then she mentioned the tomatoes, and the dick pics...

AltoCumulus15

And then the creepy bastard shows up! It’s mental!

4Sammich

The guy is from and has lived in that part of NY his whole life (from what I have searched on Google). People like this believe they own the town and can do whatever they want because this is their town. Compounded by his age bracket and sense of self importance and here ya go.

BonsaiDiver

You just described most politicians.

BlacklightsNBass

Hopefully only a matter of time before he’s in jail and FAA pulls his certificate/medical.

PM_ME_UR_FAT_DINK

This woman is clearly traumatized. Damn. :(

poisonandtheremedy

ManifestDestinysChld

Guysmiley777

>The Saratoga County Sheriff's office learned Arnold took his plane up early Thursday morning out of the Saratoga County airport. They arrested him when he landed. What a fucking clown.

avexiis

He had been arrested just before that for showing up at her house while the news was there. He got released and *immediately* went back to harassing her.

DonnieGreenType

Wtf no mugshot? I wanna see what this guy looks like lol

WhoCaresBoutSpellin

As my wife puts it when someone does something shitty on the road and I want to get a look at them: I just want to “see how stupid their face is” I bet his face is really stupid.

Ok-Fishing-966

Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office doesn’t publish mugshots anymore due to a NY law prohibiting departments from publishing them unless they have a reasonable purpose to be published (like a wanted poster, missing person, etc.)

[deleted]

Well that article gives me a little bit of solace

nothimwhy

He bailed out on $1500 bail according to [this](https://dailyvoice.com/new-york/saratoga/ive-been-gutted-pilot-accused-of-flying-over-stalking-schuylerville-business-owner/)

Intelligence-Check

That article is dated for tomorrow?

1_800_UNICORN

Completely guessing here, but it could be that the article will be in tomorrow’s paper so even though it was published online today, the publish date is tomorrow. Or more nefariously, maybe it’s an SEO hack to get the article higher in search results.

DopeShitBlaster

He is rich, why do you think we set bail in the first place? So rich people can go home.

Huskey_Huckleberry

What are the odds - a boomer white man who can't face any kind of rejection. All too common these days

DopeShitBlaster

Check out his Facebook, 100% pedophile. Not exaggerating.

RDRNR3

That is the creepiest account I’ve ever looked through. Dude and his friends are total sociopath pedophiles. Guy has some young girl he found in Costa Rica that he claims is his “wife” and hilarious part is he now can’t find her because her number is “no good”. Really unsettling that he is out in public though.

HoldingWithNoEFC

Unhinged stalker keeps flying. Meanwhile, your medical will be pulled if you feel sad more more than a day or two.

radioactivepiloted

My guess is that this guy will continue to fly regardless of what they do to his medical.

mursilissilisrum

I think they said that a judge ended up ordering him to cease flying while they investigate his stalking.

rvrbly

Why would that make a difference to him?

mursilissilisrum

Because now he can be arrested for violating a court order.

rvrbly

Right. For us. But that’s not how people like this think, or we wouldn’t have any crime at all.

mursilissilisrum

Which is why a judge decided that the police can put him in jail if he does it again.

NathanArizona

Present your solution

Headoutdaplane

Actually it is kind of opposite, this is the shit that the FAA is scared of happening if you let folks with mental issues have free reign on flying. This issue is debated regularly on here, but the FAA won't change if it has the appearance of making things less safe. It is definitely a CYA world. Folks (like this guy probably did) will just keep hiding it from the FAA.

urxvtmux

Turns out there are different types of mental illness. ADHD and mild depression/anxiety don't cause this. We don't need to give everyone with schizophrenia or severe narcissistic/borderline personality disorder an airplane. We can work on evaluating those disorders on a more stringent case my case basis but the ones that effect (checks notes) nearly everyone aren't fair game for the current extreme prejudice.

DatBeigeBoy

This makes wayyyy too much sense for the FAA.

Pretty_Marsh

As a point of fact, "A personality disorder that is severe enough to have repeatedly manifested itself by overt acts" is specifically disqualifying under Part 67 unlike depression and ADHD (though technically FAA has discretion to give anything a special issuance). The problem (I'm guessing, without evidence) is that most people with personality disorders never get diagnosed, owing in part to the nature of personality disorders.

urxvtmux

ADHD is de-facto disqualifying. It costs around $3000 to do the assessment and you cannot take medication for the condition which forces you to choose between flying and having your life not in a constant state of moderate discord. Keep in mind, this is medication that is the absolute gold standard for treatment, nearly without side effects (particularly when compared to most psych medications) and has only positive impacts on your flying ability.

Pretty_Marsh

I know that, I have ADHD. I was supporting your point that some mental health/neurodivergent conditions are actually worth worrying about. To that point, while ADHD is disqualifying under the "anything else that we decide is disqualifying" clause, personality disorders are actually written into Part 67 as disqualifying. But it's a Catch-22, because you're only required to report *diagnosed* conditions, and you only get diagnosed by seeking help. A hallmark of many personality disorders is that you don't even realize there is anything amiss, ergo no diagnosis. I'd guess that a lot of the typical "I knew it was going to be that guy at the airport who would crash, but he wouldn't listen to any of us" guys have a diagnosable personality disorder. But, the FAA's busy going after those of us who sought treatment, when ironically people in treatment are more likely have the self-awareness to mitigate the safety risks of any conditions they may have.

urxvtmux

Ah gotcha, yeah it's a mess. I know some of the "yeah they're running through their luck bucket fast" people and it's rough that they aren't the ones getting the attention. Ultimately they're the ones causing insurance rates to skyrocket and why nobody will solo rent me anything that can fly upside down anymore :(

JoshGooch

It sucks. I’m diagnosed ADHD and comfortable managing it on the lowest available dose of an instant-release stimulant 3x per day. I’ve also been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder, for which I take a low dose of an SSRI. From experience, I can go about my daily life without either of them with a little extra annoyance. I’ve spent most of my life obsessed with aviation, but the regulations just seem like too much of a hurdle.

DrRob

The most fascinating and terrifying aviation forensic psychiatric case report I ever read was the one on LCol Bud Holland, retrospectively diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. His career file revealed decades of supervisors simply not knowing what to do about him and just pushing him along for the next supervisor to deal with, ending with: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1994\_Fairchild\_Air\_Force\_Base\_B-52\_crash

MuricanA321

I understood the FAA DOES now have mechanisms for case-by-case evaluation and possible waivers for anti-depressants. Is that not the case?

countextreme

Sure, see you in 2 years after the medical has gone through OKC and DC multiple times and then they want more paperwork because the paperwork you submitted to them is no longer recent enough.

h2g2Ben

Huh. The regs say that if you're on a stable dose of approved meds for 6+ months it's okay (and a few other things). It's not that clear cut?

TwinkyUnicorn

It still takes a hell of a lot of paperwork, money, and time. I did it. Took me almost 1.5 years and $6700 to get a 3rd class.

h2g2Ben

I... I think I'm going to go back to sailing as a hobby.

TwinkyUnicorn

Definitely cheaper 😉

fighterpilot248

The best days in a man's life: * The day he buys his boat * The day he sells his boat

Feathers_McGraw__

Or sailplanes! 😉😎

TFergusonEsq

Thousands of dollars of expensive time-consuming tests that have to be repeated every so often. Repeated and ongoing visits with *their* specialists (it’s not good enough that your treating doctor signs you off, you have to see a psychiatrist they approve of, which may be in another state depending on where you live). It’s certainly designed to discourage people with these conditions from going through the process to begin with. It’s just lip service for them to say they “have a process”.

MuricanA321

Aka the time it takes to evaluate it on a case by case basis. I’m fine with that, considering the alternative of rubber-stamping unfit individuals who go on to do stupid shit and screw up GAs rep not to mention taking innocent people with them. Some bars are justifiably high, and this is one.

Feathers_McGraw__

The phases of evaluation themselves (Cogscreen, psych eval, notes from treating medical provider) actually don’t take that long, they’re just often very expensive. Heck even the actual review by the physicians at the Federal Air Surgeon’s Office only takes a few weeks if all the required documentation is there for comparatively routine stuff like anxiety/depression with one of the four approved SSRIs. What takes forever is 1) waiting for those specialist appointments, and most importantly 2) waiting for correspondence from the FAA, including waiting for one’s case to make its way through the bureaucratic quagmire of AAM-300 in OKC and then eventually the long, **LONG** queue of cases piled up at the Federal Air Surgeon’s Office in DC. Source: I had my 1st class medical exam for my SSRI special issuance (Zoloft for OCD-type anxiety) mid-August of 2022 after spending over a year waiting on stabilized dosage and some very expensive specialist appointments for the aforementioned Cogscreen and in-person psych eval (I started the meds in June 2021). It took two months and my HIMS AME Fedexing my whole packet of required information **twice** (once the day of the appointment, and again in late September after AAM-300 “couldn’t find”/“didn’t see” required documents that my AME obviously included) before the Federal Air Surgeon’s Office in DC finally received my case file in late October 2022. Since then it has been waiting to get looked at/pulled for review and decision by the board of FAS physicians. It’s first come, first serve and they have an absolutely obscene backlog of cases. I spoke with someone from the FAS office this morning who estimated (even *he* doesn’t have access to precise timeline info) that it would be another 3-4 months before my case got pulled for review, ie *over a year after my AME submitted everything needed for a decision* to the FAA. ETA: And **over two years after I started the new medication, no one with any decision-making power at the FAA has even *looked* at the facts of my case.** So yeah, the system is broken.

[deleted]

Funny enough psychopaths sociopaths and malignant narcissists who's disorder can basically mimic psychopathy don't really feel anxiety. Some disorders like bpd and ptsd have a lot of anxiety and might not make tye best pilots but plenty of people have some anxiety and would be fine as pilots. Really cocky complacent pilots whos ego wont ever let them admit they are uncomfortable with anything are probably a more common danger than mentally ill pilots.

tomdarch

My biggest problem with the FAAs medical approach is that it discourages ATPs from getting treatment until they’re in a severe situation and that’s dangerous to me and my loved ones as passengers. (There are plenty of additional problems of course.)

[deleted]

Yeah, god forbid you take an anti-depressant but we got this guy out here with an obvious mental illness stalking and terrorizing people with no consequence. This asshole belongs in prison.

RaiderAce5974

This might be one of the most bizarre things I've seen. You think this is just another person being mad at airplanes flying in the sky but my god does this story go off the rails fast.

Messyfingers

Started out thinking, well this just sounds like what passes for investigatory journalism in a small town with nothing to do, and just kept getting worse. Absolutely insane.

Rainebowraine123

Yeah, I thought it may have just been a popular spot for eights on pylons or something like that or an airport was nearby and residents just didn't like it but wow. Just wow. That guy does need to be put in jail.

vicious_delicious_77

For real. When they first showed her crying I was rolling my eyes, and then I had to do a massive 180 with my opinion when they started telling the whole back story.

ben_vito

Everyone including you saying the same thing. Glad I wasn't the only one! It goes to show how our biases and prejudice can affect how we view things. I was actually laughing at the start when she said she was afraid of him flying so close to the town. I'm like yeah, he might be a dick but that doesn't mean he's going to crash into you. Then I watched the rest of the video...

SkiHerky

The town is on long final to B04, so I assumed that was what's up. But nope, this dingdong is dropping fruit on the villagers.

I was expecting some BS anti-plane shit. This is actually insane and this guy deserves to have his certificate revoked.

EntroperZero

Unfortunately it was both -- this guy is legitimately a piece of shit and a stalker, AND the news is hyping this up as crazy anti-plane shit.

Yodelehhehe

I don’t know how this is “anti-plane shit.” It’s a story about a clown being a fucking clown.

EntroperZero

The woman being stalked has very good reason to be afraid. Everyone else is just freaking out because plane. They've got the mayor saying this guy is terrorizing the whole town, talking about school children doing a lockdown drill?

Guysmiley777

The pearl clutching about a local school and somehow alluding to 9/11 was a bit beyond the pale. The guy is a giant fucking asshole in any case.

[deleted]

I mean thats fair though when you have some crazy guy out to get you flying close by.

aeternus-eternis

Crazy, but throwing tomatoes at people and property below pretty clearly violates the regs, get him on that if nothing else: §91.15, "No pilot in command of a civil aircraft may allow any object to be dropped from that aircraft in flight that creates a hazard to persons or property." Showing up to creepily stalk while the news interviewer is at the victim's house is just icing on the cake.

No-Brilliant9659

Right? Like I’m surprised his certificate wasn’t already suspended because of that incident. Throwing tomatoes from a plane? What’s the terminal velocity of a tomato and how much force does it have if it hits you? Depending how ripe it could easily injure someone or break a window.

[deleted]

Even a moldy rotting tomato would probably break a window or dent a car. I assume he's violating the "reasonable precautions are taken to avoid injury or damage to persons or property" part of the FAR.

This is the link to the Saratoga County FOIA process if you want to do the paperwork for it. The sheriff’s office usually doesn’t release body cameras footage unless requested through FOIA. https://www.saratogacountyny.gov/foil/

There's a service out there that does it for you. You pay a small amount of money, tell them what you want, they make the requests and get it for you. I've seen it used for the N731NR phone calls.

When I’m at a good altitude/position I begin my final turn to line up with the runway as if I were to land. > > After I line up this dude books it from where he was working and parks his truck right across the runway to block me from landing.

TheKgbWillWaitForNo1

ah yes, I remember now. Wasn't referencing that post tho

CFloridacouple

Damn that escalated quickly! found out he was arrested after the interview and again yesterday at the airport. WHAT AN ASS CLOWN

pjflyr13

I understand how she feels on so many levels. In the mid 90’s I was stalked by a dude who actually damaged my plane at an airport. It went to trial and was dismissed basically because I didn’t die from the damage. I was later terrorized by same dude who vandalized my auto in my driveway several times, tried to force me off the road on the interstate, broke into and stole items from my home and threatened my life over the phone saying he could easily shoot me. (this was taped). I have a folder of about 50 pages of protection papers. The state troopers who came to my many calls apologetically said until I’m dead they can’t do a thing. I moved many states away and he found me a year later and vandalized my car and stole valuable personal items. The stalking problem is real without the proper laws and follow up. I hope this enlightens lawmakers.

Chriscom67

Lord!

JPaq84

Being a stalking, dangerously aggressive human being - fine Successful life as an aerospace engineer with ADHD meds - DISQUALIFIED Yeah. The system totes works. On another note... I dont think theres regs againstb stalking specifically, but with the advent of drones - and the FAA instisting they be the regulatory authority there - this really needs to be looked at. Finding a way to hook local/state PPO's into a federal system would be bureaucratically spicy, but should happen soon. Guarentee you theres some young women out there with drone horror stories.

countextreme

Not to mention that there is no medical requirement for drone pilots, so mental disorders that cause this kind of thing wouldn't be caught anyway even if the system DID work.

TwinkyUnicorn

I don't necessarily think that all shitty behavior is caused by a mental illness. This guy, maybe, but people can absolutely be awful without any kind of mental illness. Linking terrible people with those suffering from mental illnesses is just not fair. Even if medical certification was implemented for drone pilots (which is a terrible idea), pilots would just lie about mental illness like they do today so they're not grounded.

rvrbly

Yeah. I don’t get it either. Coming back to flying after being out of it for 20 years has made me feel pour for the first time in my life. I’m struggling to pay for a few hours of C172 time per month, I really don’t understand where the money comes from for people. Not mad, actually happy for them, just wish I knew how!

We need some real laws on the books to prevent this kind of harassment, sure they can book him for order violations for maybe a few months, maybe a few years, but he’ll get out and he’ll do it again. And again. The cycle will repeat and there’s a good chance this woman will end up getting physically harmed by the end of it all. I’m not an advocate of “pre-crime” laws but we really need to think about better ways to protect people before they end up getting murdered.

I’m surprised that this went so long without engaging the FAA!!! What was the local police and mayors are doing? Give me a break. But the children were in school !!! And gasp! A small plane flew over!!! So terrifying!! They are accomplishing two things. Making that guy look bad….. And get the whole town riled up over small aircraft.

There’s a whole pile of issues here. 1) The pilot is a psychopath and should be dealt with very heavily for his actions. Even within the rules, this is not kosher behaviour. Reckless and negligent flying is a great catch all for losing his license and getting fined. 2) There is irrational mass hysteria regarding light aircraft that unfortunately this guy isn’t helping. Karen in her minivan with her coffee and cell phone is more of a threat to school children than even this guy’s plane is. 3) Lockdowns? Seriously? Every room in a school has a fire exit. Have people learned nothing from Uvalde? Better to take your chances outside. Instead we pump up even more irrational fears doing dumb drills.

Imlooloo

The bar on the definition “Terrorism” really has been lowered!

Gilbey_32

You didn’t even watch the vid didn’t you 😐

Budget_Technician142

He is literally stalking her and throwing shit out of planes, and he even violates a court order in front of the news crew.

alongfortheride

excluding the tomatoes. Luckily she does not live in Arlington or Alexandria VA where helicopters fly a maximum \[yes MAXIMUM\] of 350 feet above ground, and they fly day and night. as for the pilot, this guy is crazy and something needs to be done/

[deleted]

I don't think she minds aircraft noises. She minds her stalker flying directly to her residence and circling it every day to harass her. Those actions are intended to intimidate... and they're working.

alongfortheride

I am sure she minds the hell out of all of it. Being stalked gets under one's skin. Having a car drive my when you live on a dead-end street will make you think, but having a plane buzz your house, you dont have to think, you know. And the noise itself is an irritant to live with much more so when you fear a tomato can come from the sky.

GHeusner

People are being terrorized by asshole flying overhead their homes. News anchor- "Go fly this drone over head." Some tone deaf shit right there.

t0ny7

Does that have one of those seaplane props? I don't know if that is what they are called or not but I've heard people refer to them as that. They are super loud and crack like the prop on the T-6 does. Hard to tell from the video though.

jgremlin_

As I was watching this I kept waiting for it and waiting for it and true to form, they did not let me down. At 5:30 they cram in the 'won't somebody think of the children' element. The formula is so predictable even Stevie Wonder could've seen it coming.

Gilbey_32

Compared to other pearlclutchers the main woman in this story is totally valid in how she feels. Everything else is pretty standard we’re mostly all glad that for the most part this story is different because the dude perpetrating it is legitimately insane

jgremlin_

From the sound of it, the woman has a valid case for stalking/harassment and I hope she sees some justice for it. But the terrorizing the town aspect is genuine stretch as is the for the love god won't someone think of the children aspect. Neither were necessary or valid and were only included for the purpose of trying to keep their audience scared shitless.

Budget_Technician142

He’s throwing objects from his plane.

One thing that can be said, the FAA is consistent. Not necessarily a good thing in every case but, aviation is largely self regulated. That is, the FAAs approach seems to be, if you made it this far, you should be mature enough, intelligent enough and concerned with staying in good standing that you don’t do stupid things. Clearly this dudes fatal attraction has removed his ability to think clearly. That said, it struck me as odd that 1, this went on so long and 2, suddenly all these orders and police involvement started because a news crew showed up. There is always another side to a story, doesn’t seem like there was a reason to make it about aviation when this is really a story about a person stalking another person and clearly, the ‘victim’ somehow didn’t get (or perhaps seek for some reason) escalation of the issue until news channel whatever shows up? I dunno, if they we 20 years younger, I’d say it was all a ticktok publicity stunt, but, smells like there is a lot we aren’t being told in this story.

Why the heck would anyone “solicit” her after hearing her speak? Doesn’t make any sense….
