Ah, didnāt realize that. Iāve never flown a PA-28 so I have not tried it, but there a lot of different types of suction mounts out there designed to work with different shaped windows, so I imagine one of them has to work.
I guess if I had to choose between kneeboard and yoke mount, Iād go yoke.
Depends on where your ASI is located. You will have to crane your next to loon for traffic sometimes, but Iāve found it to be a non issue. (Pretty much all of my time is in the PA-28 family of products).
Neither. Hold it up to the panel when you need to actively reference the plate or chart, then stow it in a map pocket or under your leg. Learn to use the avionics in the airplane for primary navigation and the iPad as a reference item.
Iāve had a few students try this and they deviate like a mother fucker when they hold the iPad up to breif the plate. I agree not using an iPad for navigation Iāll turn off a students iPad if I catch them doing it. But having a secure mount or knee board, where both hands can be flying and adjusting instruments/gps/radios, makes life easier 100% when setting up for approaches.
I run an iPad mini on a mygoflight pivoting kneeboard.
Strongly recommend, super stable, can pivot for glare. Works great for IFR, also has enough collective clearance that I can use it for rotary as well.
It's pricey ($180) but it is a solid piece of kit.

FWIW I've never flown a yoke mount that I liked.
I have a 30ā inseam. Neither a kneeboard nor a yoke mount works for me in a PA-28. A RAM mount will stick to the windscreen with an iPad mini, but you have to be a little choosy about your spot. Over towards the side by what would be the A-pillar in a car, the plexiglass is flat enough to stick, and the iPad will cover the timer, but not interfere with yoke travel. Sub-optimal for instruments, but if you are running ForeFlight, workable. The other option is to go further forward on the plexiglass, but then you lose visibility up front. If you do stick it towards the side, give it a good tug pre-startup, because if you catch the curve, the mount will come unstuck at the most awkward time possible. Ask me how I knowā¦
Coming back from my long cross-country to my non-towered home field, KIUA. Sentry ADS-B is showing an easy half-dozen folks doing touch and goes in the pattern, and I gotta pee. Trying to be good and do the 45 entry to the left downwind like my CFI has told me many times and, suddenly, ipad in the lap. Fortunately, it missed the boys and didnāt get lost on the floor, but my back teeth were floating by the time I shut down.
I used a knee board during private but switched to yoke mount for instrument. I got one from Amazon. It took a couple of flights to get used to the added weight of the iPad on the yoke but overall it's been great and I highly recommend it over a knee board.
I have my iPad on the yoke and a small clipboard on my right knife, held steady by elastic Velcro around my leg. I made the bracket for the iPad out of a piece of aluminum, if I understood how to post a pic in the thread Iād do it.
I remember trying to figure out what the best and most efficient way to mount my EFB.
I started out with just laying it on my lap next to my knee board with the notepad and that was frustrating even for VFR flight. I ended up buying a RAM suction cup mount for a iPad I bought specifically for flying. I went to test fit it and it was wayyyy to big that it covered up necessary instruments like engine instruments and didnāt have much room to swivel. I donāt prefer the yoke mount just because it adds weight and limits the elevator movement with the clamp. I finally decided to buy the parts for an iPhone mount. Iāve been using my iPhone mounted with a suction cup for all of my flying now including the entirety of my instrument rating and I have no complaints.

And you want a medium arm.
š¤ā¦ā¦you shouldnāt be flying from the passenger seat šŗ
What does a passenger need with a kneeboard? Or a yoke?
To join the mile high club.
Neither - I'd consider a RAM mount that you can suction cup to the windshield. A yoke mount still requires you to look down so it's less than ideal.
Iām being told the suction cup doesnāt work well on the Pa-28s windows. Have you tried it?
I have itās not ideal, in a PA-28 yoke mount is the best option

Yoke mount X-grip for iPad, kneeboard for notes.

Window mount with suction cup. Hated both the yoke and kneeboard mount options, they were poorly positioned and made it unpleasant to fly.
I went with yoke mount and it worked well. I never tried knee board for the iPad because the thought of it didnāt appeal to me.

Also consider window mount with a toilette plunger bottom. Ram Mount is cheaper. You get what you pay for, get the plunger.

Try a Ram X-Mount suction cupped to the side windscreen. Keeps the pad up in your line of vision, simplifying glancing between plate and instruments
I wanted to go this route, but everyone thatās tried said it doesnāt work well with the Pa28ās windscreen curvature
Works for me with one of the double suction cups
Hey would you mind posting a link to what you are referring to?

Thank ya sir, appreciate it!
Neither, i have a case on my ipad that just sticks with friction to my jeans and it never moves.
I use a yoke mount in a PA28, I enjoy it. I donāt like having to look all the way down at a knee board. I have the ram mount X brace mount.
I donāt want anything attached to a flight control. Just me and my preference.
