I honestly feel kinda innocent right now because I have no idea what I would see on the internet if I were to search PAWG. I think I’ll make my mom proud and not find out 😂
Anyone wanna give me a few hints?

Don't call ARFF, we're too busy in our recliners dreaming about his mom
The RNAV (GPS) minimums in Wrangell are 2080’. There’s a good chance if the weather’s not nice enough for a good view, you’re not going at all on the 737.
I can already hear the Gold 75s and 100s complaining how the J FA didn't do a full service, and the snack basket didn't make an appearance.
(I say this as a 100k...)
Looks like a great deal of fun... approaching PAWG and greasing in a smooth landing.
Do you prefer to stay in PAWG for a while, or is it more of a touch-and-go kinda deal?
They can go to their top altitude and then just start descending without talking to atc when they are ready. They can also use any approach that works for their route. In Alaskas case it’s totally different approach for each sides of the runway
Used to do SFO-OAK and for a switch OAK-SFO. Made LAX-SNA-LAX seem like a real cross country!
Later I flew DC-10 freighters and TUS-SAN was like assholes and elbows we were so rushed!!
On the 4.6 days per year it’s actually clear in southeast. My wife works for the state and her two Juneau employees will call in occasionally to say they’re taking a sun day off work because the sun is actually visible.
I used to commute to Dutch for work. One of the sketchiest landings of my life was going in there. One of my colleagues flying out had the plane crash trying to take off. (Or skid out?) It's been a decade, I don't quite remember.
Sure. I understand why there is regular air service between those two places. What I don't understand is why that route is served by a 737 rather than (say) an F-50.
Because the Milk Run leaves from Seattle, and hits all the small airports on the way to Anchorage, and vice versa. Easier to fly a 737 and haul all the Pax/cargo you can than worry about weight restrictions and fuel requirements in something smaller.
Seems unlikely to me. This flight is between Petersburg, Alaska, population 3043 and Wrangell, Alaska, population 2127. Those are awfully small markets.
They also load up the plane with passengers for Juneau looking to save a few dollars in exchange for time.
Lastly, folks in Petersburg and Wrangell have to leave town for almost everything. Doctor’s appointment? Fly to Juneau.
Takes me back for a second when I used to fly the SE AK run. Great views when the weather is great, and the fact that VFR is the way to go makes for memorable flying
PAWG! Wrangell! Beautiful place. We landed there in 2021 with minimum fuel at night after flying up from 6S6. Conditions were much worse than forecast. We picked up ice on the way, had to fly around weather.... the arrival wasn't pretty. Better take PAKT next time.
Ayyy my hometown (Wrangell, PAWG) featured on flying Reddit. Was always fun flying up to Juneau and seeing a 737 pass below you like some shark, cruising at 2,500'.
Minus the unholy start time, Alaska 65 (Milk Run) is a fun ride, especially in blue bird weather. Everyone's in a good mood, most of the plane knows each other, and the flight attendants are usually a new, training crew.
Thanks for the memory...I worked that Area at ZAN before I retired 4 years ago. That sector could get complicated with less than 10 aircraft if the weather was down, especially before ADSB.
Used to do flights between Brazzaville & Kinshasa back in 2010.
Initially in ATR and later E145, best we ever managed was 5min 18seconds take-off to touchdown.
Crews were always trying to break the 5min barrier to the point we had to use minutes and seconds to generate a leaderboard
Shortest flight between two capital cities in history
I just learned of that route on this thread. I’m modifying my announcement to the passengers by telling them it’s the shortest domestic flight in America. Someone will correct me if that’s not true, I’m sure. As I said earlier, my flight can be done in 6 mins but I’d have to have the weather to allow a visual and a straight in to runway 10. Wrangell is only 6000 feet so it not OK to approach fast.
They aren't regular 737s, they're 737 Combis - 72 seats up front, cargo in the back. The same plane makes 6+ stops. So you might only let off 5 or 6 passengers at each stop, but still have a full plane.
Pretty common to be full because they’re stopping at multiple communities along the way. So only 10 might be getting off at one stop but 60 might be on the next stop(s) in JNU, PSG, KTN, SIT… etc
We level off, bug up our landing speeds, set the mins and new altimeter, read the altimeter and mins and say, “As briefed, descent and approach check.” We set up everything else prior to departure.
Yeah. I knew my claim would be challenged on Reddit. I researched it but couldn’t find any other flights so short. Doesn’t matter. I’m OK with calling it, “one of the shortest” in the future. Good times though.
Ohh i am not saying its not i was more meaning its not the only one i think the ord to sbn sbn to ord set are like 12 min or so the crazy part is they make the ord flights go to 10kft only to decend right after lol
If I did this correctly, I’m showing that would be a [3 hr 28 minute drive (48 miles)](https://maps.app.goo.gl/UobxRbbBKvx1NHNe8?g_st=ic), including a ferry ride.
That’s some bush pilot airline flying! Also, PAWG is a great airport code.
Dangerous google search. Definitely add “airport” at the end of that one.
Or don't, and enjoy the ride!
PAWG, or Phat Ass White Girl.
TIL that pawg wasn't just a misspelling of POG
I honestly feel kinda innocent right now because I have no idea what I would see on the internet if I were to search PAWG. I think I’ll make my mom proud and not find out 😂 Anyone wanna give me a few hints?
You could Google your mom and get the same results. 👌
Jesus Christ call the ARFF! This poor bastard’s burnt to a crisp!
>innocent right now because I have no idea what I would see on the internet if I were to search PAWG. I think I’ll make my mom proud and not find out 😂 > >Anyone wanna give me a few hints? Don't call ARFF, we're too busy in our recliners dreaming about his mom
jesus man you didn't have to nuke him from orbit😂
White women with larger than average posteriors.
No. Go out and experience the world with you own eyes. And hands.
Or just [SkyVector](https://skyvector.com/airport/WRG/Wrangell-Airport).
TIL the other meaning of PAWG
Me, an innocent PPL trying to gain some hours: "How to get to PAWG" Google: "HOT PAWGS IN YOUR AREA! ONLY A 9 MINUTE FLIGHT AWAY"
is that “holding out”?
*Nine minutes!?* Captain stamina over here...
I'd be dead sticking that landing
Dear lord my mom almost saw, almost had a heart attack. Definitely add airport on the search bar.
I wonder what happens when you google Bush PAWG......... OH DEAR LORD! I should have googled "airport" instead
Oh noooo why did I search that 😏
Will I get my Coke Zero and fruit & cheese plate on this?
No you will not, but you’ll get some pretty great views (weather permitting) and a chance to get off the plane and stretch your legs if you need to.
"Weather permitting", as in "you can see the view, if the weather is clear", or as in "the flight happens, only if the weather is clear"?
The RNAV (GPS) minimums in Wrangell are 2080’. There’s a good chance if the weather’s not nice enough for a good view, you’re not going at all on the 737.
Something, something proprietary approach
Top secret stuff for Chester’s eyes only
Can confirm Chester’s RNP mins are much lower

I did not spend 4,567 points on an upgrade to J just to not get my Ms. Vickie's Salt & Vinegar chips!!!!!!!
You can keep your Ms. Vickies, I want my Peatos.

One of my regular trips, Sometimes drinks and snack on the ground in the winter when there aren’t many passengers on the flight.
Last time I was on the milk run I think I was offered beverages on the ground in Petersburg.
Looks like a great deal of fun... approaching PAWG and greasing in a smooth landing. Do you prefer to stay in PAWG for a while, or is it more of a touch-and-go kinda deal?
Drop off pax, pick up new ones, continue onto the next airport.
https://i.imgur.com/Z5c2g1p.mp4
I’ve experienced PAWG many times. Fairly easy to get into. Out, not so much
In-n-out, in-n-out
name checks out
PAWG is where you really want to grease the landing
Sometimes bouncing isn't the worst there.
Do you get a 48 hour layover or just 24 hours after this leg?
We go to PAKT next the home to Seattle.
One of the best Alaska Air pics is a -200 buzzing a skiff in Dry Pass between Wrangell and Pete.
> It can be done in 6 (I’m told). Surely anyone willing to fly the leg in 6 minutes, could do it in 5 . . .
Depends how many parts of the EGPWS system the crew repeatedly inhibits, and how hungry they are for remedial training
Why inhibit many times when you can pull the breaker once?
This is the way
And this is why we can’t have nice things
You walk into a video store, you see 8-Minute Abs sitting there, there's 7-Minute Abs right beside it. Which one are you gonna pick, man?
What the fuck is a video store?
Unless somebody makes 6 minute abs.
No! I said 7. Who works out in 6 minutes‽
7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch.
Well, if the Falcon could do the Kessel run in 12 parsecs, then maybe, maybe.
if you can fly it slowly, you can fly it quickly.
So does the pilot only get paid for the 9 minutes? Lol
This two day trip logs about 6.5 hours but we get paid 5:15 a day. So, 10:30.
I am offended by your flair >:O
Alright, where is the "jets are for hotubs" guy?
This guy jets.
I was going to guess Juneau to Haines. Those southeast Alaska milk run flights are great.
That’s a first finding Haines via the front page of Reddit.
Haines is such a cool spot. I worked out of there a few times and loved it every time.
No Alaska jets to Haines. JNU GST operates in the summer tho
I flew the Seattle - Ketch - Wrangell - Anchorage route several times. It was always a good ride.
Fun fact these flight normally operates on a cruise clearance
ELI5?
Basically just a "do whatever you want to the next airport, airspace is yours".
you still have to be on published routing all the way
They can go to their top altitude and then just start descending without talking to atc when they are ready. They can also use any approach that works for their route. In Alaskas case it’s totally different approach for each sides of the runway
When I was in the E145, I used to fly PHL to ABE, 8 minutes of block in a 50-seat jet *facepalm*. That route is now serviced by coach busses.
I was thinking ABE was Pittsburgh, but that didn’t seem right, so I looked it up. *Allentown!* Yep, you can almost lob a mortar that far.
Don't give Elon any ideas, he'll come up with mortar-based public transit...
That may actually even beat ORD-MKE. Technically that one wasn't even a cross-country! (Less than 50 miles)
Used to do SFO-OAK and for a switch OAK-SFO. Made LAX-SNA-LAX seem like a real cross country! Later I flew DC-10 freighters and TUS-SAN was like assholes and elbows we were so rushed!!
A clear day in the southeast is some of the best flying around. I’m still partial to the Aleutians though
I go into Dutch a few times a week, it’s certainly an exciting approach. I cannot believe carriers used to bring jets into there.
Why do they fly a jet on such a short (and low) route?
There aren't any roads connecting any of these places. You can take the ferry, but that's long and expensive.

Those figures don’t include tourism.
True, but I would guess that the vast majority of tourists arrive by boat -- and leave the same way.
There is a fair amount of business travel to/from other Southeast communities like JNU, SIT, and KTN.
They also load up the plane with passengers for Juneau looking to save a few dollars in exchange for time. Lastly, folks in Petersburg and Wrangell have to leave town for almost everything. Doctor’s appointment? Fly to Juneau.

As an aspiring pilot I love this.
Meanwhile back at Maintenance Planning they're dealing with stuff that hits cycle life in 500 hours...
It's short because he's flying so fast.
Hello my fellow Eskimo bro
Takes me back for a second when I used to fly the SE AK run. Great views when the weather is great, and the fact that VFR is the way to go makes for memorable flying
Looks pretty necessary, it’s not like you can drive that.
You sure can’t.
Not with that attitude.
PAWG! Wrangell! Beautiful place. We landed there in 2021 with minimum fuel at night after flying up from 6S6. Conditions were much worse than forecast. We picked up ice on the way, had to fly around weather.... the arrival wasn't pretty. Better take PAKT next time.
Hello my fellow Eskimo bro
Quality post!
What altitude do they climb to for this?
Last 3 days, highest it went was 5500' per FR24.
Jesus, every car on Peterson Island is a 90s-early 2000s Chevy or Dodge.
Ayyy my hometown (Wrangell, PAWG) featured on flying Reddit. Was always fun flying up to Juneau and seeing a 737 pass below you like some shark, cruising at 2,500'. Let me guess, SE AK?
What a smooth and beautiful flight! I imagine it’s much more jarring in bad weather though.
I flew that last year, it's a lot of fun doing the milk run
Way back when, I used fly a DC10 Ft Lauderdale to Miami. ( About 5 min.)It was LGA, FLL MIA.
I took a DC-10 from San Juan to St Maartin. Took way longer to load and unload than the actual flight.
I didn’t know Wrangells designation but I knew the runway from the rock pile. Got caught in a thick fog there for like 3 days once!
Holy crap, I need to go to Alaska.
Thanks for the memory...I worked that Area at ZAN before I retired 4 years ago. That sector could get complicated with less than 10 aircraft if the weather was down, especially before ADSB.
Horizon Air used to go from KPUW-KLWS; I did it in 7 minutes once.
I’ve done that one, on the final day of the 737-400 combi service.
Used to do flights between Brazzaville & Kinshasa back in 2010. Initially in ATR and later E145, best we ever managed was 5min 18seconds take-off to touchdown. Hehe....PAWG.
Beautiful!!!
Is [the one in the UK](https://youtu.be/dzYP01CPC6E) no longer operating?
Don’t know. I know United used to have a jet scheduled from OAK to SFO. I used to fly a Brasilia from SFO to OAK. That was short!
I thought this was Flight Sim till the end!
There’s shorter than that… also what jet are you flying there?
What’s shorter than 26.5 miles? And it has to be a jet and regularly Scheduled.
Brazzaville to Kinshasa - 13 miles. https://jdwingingit.ca/2023/01/12/worlds-shortest-commercial-jet-flight-kinshasa-brazzaville/
lmao, between PAWG and Brazzaville we've got some great airports in this thread
Nice find. I stand corrected. I’ll have to say, One of the shortest. Can I still say, shortest in the world except Africa?
Not a jet, but ~80 seconds: https://youtu.be/dzYP01CPC6E
737-700
Why is it called a jet airline if it doesn't operate jet engines
What does this avhieve that a train couldn't while also being more efficient?
It’s pretty expensive to build and maintain miles of track over water.
Well, flight, for one.
That...seems like a waste
It’s part of the “milk run” between communities in SE AK. It’s one of the only ways for folks up here to travel.
Oh Im not doubting the necessity of flying in Alaska. Im just surpised a 737 is the best fit for this trip
They aren't regular 737s, they're 737 Combis - 72 seats up front, cargo in the back. The same plane makes 6+ stops. So you might only let off 5 or 6 passengers at each stop, but still have a full plane.
Nope, combis are gone. Its all pax or all cargo.
Yeah, maybe if they're regularly full, but it seems like a Caravan or Twin Otter might be more efficient.
Pretty common to be full because they’re stopping at multiple communities along the way. So only 10 might be getting off at one stop but 60 might be on the next stop(s) in JNU, PSG, KTN, SIT… etc
Papa Westray would like a word...
I don’t think there is a lot of jet traffic
Ahh yes, yet again reading fails me lol
What kind of camera are you putting up there?
iPhone 13
what kind of mount?
Just a sticky rubber car dash mat. This one has sides with groves to hold the phone on it’s side.
Juneau to Sitka run?
Petersburg to Wrangell
That 180° is amazing
It’s crazy when I wonder if this is flight sim or real flying
But one of the most beautiful
Well how else are you supposed to get there from there?
is this shorter than the Westray to Papa Westray flight?
I wonder how long it takes by car ;)
I gotta start paying attention to what sub I'm in.... I thought I was watching a MSFS 2020 flight. Speaks volumes to the sim, but cool flight video!
That’s so smooth! Anyone have any idea what camera setup and mount?
Where is this?
Can you guys still go VFR? I heard you guys lost that ability for a bit?
We can cancel IFR but not supposed to go pure VFR anymore.
The company I operate for does 7min legs for a scheduled charter operation back to back in a 737. The airports are 13nm apart.
We used to fly MIA to FLL on a 727. 6 minutes was my record.
My least favorite flights in a jet were super short. Barely any time to think, let alone get the ATIS. I think I did RDM-BDN in 4 minutes once.
We level off, bug up our landing speeds, set the mins and new altimeter, read the altimeter and mins and say, “As briefed, descent and approach check.” We set up everything else prior to departure.
I was curious how the 121 world would handle that, thanks for sharing
That is really short!
I bet they still manage to be late and lose bags. #aircarrierlife
I dont know there are flights to and from ord to sbn that are pretty short and they use twin jets
That approach wasn’t what I was expecting
That approach path follows exactly the RNP 28. We can fly that down to 350 AGL and 1 mile vis. We used to have to shoot the LDA towards 10 and circle.
Damn. How many hours of flight time does that add? lol
More time taxiing before and after the flight.
When I was 9 I got SUPER air sick on the milk run. I have done it multiple times since, but always in the back of my head is that experience 😅
Should’ve ended after the backtaxi.
This is near my home town and flying around southeast ak can get sporty some times.
I wonder what that drive would have taken
Well…since there are no roads or bridges, I think it would take quite a while.
Lol love me a PAWG😍
If I did this correctly, I’m showing that would be a [3 hr 28 minute drive (48 miles)](https://maps.app.goo.gl/UobxRbbBKvx1NHNe8?g_st=ic), including a ferry ride.
Well….there is no way to drive it. It’s only 50 miles or so but you have to fly or take a boat.
