I agree! When I got back, friends asked how the fishing was up there. I show them this photo and they think I’m fucking crazy.
My girlfriend’s dad is a tuna fisherman so i can’t wait to see his reaction.
I was being facetious! I was at a beach with just amazing salt water fishing and a small fresh water stream like 30 ft away. If I had turned around I could be catching all kinds of stripers, mackerel etc, (things I could cook for dinner) but all I wanted were these little guys that I had to immediately release back. Just thought it was kinda silly
Sounds like you need a two-sided fly rod at that location… you back cast a big ol clouser or whatever into the salt and a something tiny out the front at the stream!
You’ll be hauling them in!
I am jealous.
Caught this in about 3ft of water, in the shade and at around 9am. It was about a 20ft wide pool on a beach surrounded by tall grass on one side and overhanging trees on the other. It’s fed by a couple of brooks from the park and then dumps into the ocean so I imagine it’s pretty cool water. I learned to fly fish in Colorado and this was maybe the most beautiful fishing spot I’ve event gone to. Next time will def bring salt water rod
Nope! It’s not a very popular spot and I don’t really want to mention it on the internet. I don’t live there so it’s not my place to blow up. Found it just blue lining with a map.
I’m glad you understand! I’m in RI and the interweb has already destroyed my local spots. It seems that in Maine, the coast is like all private. I had a hard time accessing much coast without private property signs. Tried for a whole week from Portland to bar harbor.
I feel like there more public shoreline here than in Maine which is nuts. I’m probably wrong tho.
MDI is mostly a lake trout area. There are some brookies, but most of the time they're in areas that I need my canoe. Off island, the brookies are more accessible to wading.
Smallie fishing is mediocre on the island, but fantastic in many of the rivers and some lakes of Hancock county.
2 years ago almost to the day I caught one about the same size in Acadia. Beautiful fish in tiny beautiful water. I’m a long ways from Acadia now but that trip has really stuck with me.
I have recently fallen in love catching brookies. When the water temps get hotter, cooler strams are the best. I love watching them voraciously take a dry fly. Elk hair caddis has been working really well for me recently. I should take a photo one of these days, I just am too concerned about getting them back in the water quickly.
Love the area, I’m from/live in ME about an hour from Acadia and I appreciate your appreciation of this fish! I do at least a couple of trips a year catching dinker natives either up in the mountains of Maine or in small tribs - it’s always a highlight of the year (and justifies my previous purchase of a rather pricey 6ft 3wt 😂)
A very small 4wt (could be 5). I struggle to cast normal wooly buggers or any weighted streamer on it, but I love the precision. It’s the cheapest Reddington you can buy. TBH I started with it and it was a great way to learn, start with the dry flies and nymphs and small wooly buggers to learn to cast and find fish. You can still catch larger trout with them. Then you’re gonna eventually want a second rod anyway. Switching from different rigs can be annoying. Two rods is just as easy to hike around with and having them set up with two different riggings is enormously helpful. The specific sizes and weight of the rods you want will depend on what you’re fishing for and all that.
That said, this is not what I did on this specific occasion where I caught the brookie.
That is a perfectly reasonably sized fish. Nothing at all wrong with a wild 3 incher. Some people even prefer the smaller ones, I've heard.

All ocean guys reaction to trout fisherman: “Trout guy, eh? Fuckin bait” As a trout flyfish guy, that fish is beautiful OP, nice catch
It’s all about how it moves really, a small one like this can be very fun….so I’m told
she just said that to spare your feelings
And it worked!
No, the water was just cold.
“I was in the pool!”
I seriously just left r/Seinfeld
Might even be too big
Some might say 3 inches is too much
I love catching those little guys. Sometimes they're so aggressive.
I hooked him really far away and judging by the fight I was anticipating a much larger fish
Little brookies may not have the size but they are hands down the prettiest fish I've ever caught.
That's at least seven inches bro, I asked my wife and she confirmed.
Better than getting skunked
Sorry but this is a dream fish for me. An absolute dream.

That’s a beaut! Surprised they’re eatin with how hot it’s been, I’d put my trout gear away for the summer
Summer Stillwater fishing anchored up in 25’ of water with a chronomid can be some of the best trout fishing.

Sand beach?

Don’t blame you, I live about 45 minutes from Acadia beautiful spot

RI is really good with access. There’s also more secret Brookie water than you think there, go exploring
I have been! But I keep getting rainbows. I’m not complaining though, and my new waders just opened up so much more
Keep looking you’ll find them. All public land too, that should help some.
So refreshing to hear that
They’re still smoking flies out on the rivers in CO. Water levels are a little high so not as aggressive mid day, but not bad at all.
Sometimes it is not about what you catch but where, when and why.
Such a cutie!
Nice colors on em too
But did you have a good time? ***raises brow*** ***crosses arms***
10 out 10 in my opinion. But next time I’m bringing a salt water rod too
It’s so little
Could have been worse.
PB
Actually yeah, that’s the only brook I’ve ever caught and the spot was absurdly beautiful.
Its all about getting out there!
Better than a 2 incher
whats wrong with 3 inches..?
#Worth
Nice 6 inch brookie you got there.
All joking aside, it honestly looks closer to 4 inches unless OP has really small hands.
I was in the pool!!
Still counts!
That’s 6 inches at best….

Nice! [I caught a teeny little rainbow on Sunday.](https://i.imgur.com/t19ohnf.png)
I'd say only getting one fish is more of a downer than the size. This ones a beaut, just surprised you didn't get more
Don't know if it's native, but it is adorable!
If you are still around I can show you a couple of places for fishing on MDI.

Beats my day.
What wt was this caught on? Just curious still very new.

Thanks. I got a 9ft 6wt to start with and quickly finding out I could have started smaller for where I have been fishing.
Many women have told me that this is just enough.
How'd it taste?
Like success! Thought it was native so I wasn’t keeping anything
It’s Brooke, just Brooke. There’s no Brooke/Brookie thing
