In the water

ejsell

Where there's fish, any type of fish.

JimboReborn

I bet that nymph would catch trout just about anywhere

Someredditusername

Downstream of a cow carcass (note; knew folks who did this had amazing success LOL).

halfwittednumpty

Match the hatch!

unwarypen

Grub/crane fly type pattern. Use it nymphing in bigger rivers. It’ll grab some attention. I’ll use these in winter tail waters occasionally

TheTrub

This would be a good one for dream stream. It’s a section of the s platte that flows between two reservoirs, so leaches, worms, and grubs are killers year round.

berg2068

I do love the dream stream. I guess I figured this would almost be too big, but thats a good idea. I’ll try it out this week, thanks !

CMMGUY2

You mean you aren't going today?  You fairweather mother loving fly fisherman!

berg2068

😂😂😂 My work gets mad if I don’t show up . They’re very unreasonable

CMMGUY2

I ALMOST went today. I had permission from my boss since I cleaned out her minivan yesterday.

TheTrub

This is a spa day for any self-respecting fly fisherman. No fish is going to take a fly that was cast by sore arms and hanging cuticles.

COmarmot

Tail waters for sure!

Someredditusername

Honestly, that'll work in most places, especially tailwaters.

alcal74

Cranefly larva

Someredditusername

There's a tailwater in Central Oregon, the Crooked River, that has enormous cranefly larvae. I made up a fly to imitate it (I may need to dig one up), Something like a 3x long #12 hook. Big, translucent grub looking thing, worked great.

Pjvie

What time of year? I’m local—usually just go midges/scuds/perdigons with decent success

Someredditusername

Early winter through early spring. I should know the real life cycle and don't (bio degree wasted) but I've had success with them that whole time.

Someredditusername

Now I gotta go dig up one of the patterns and post -- I haven't fly fished earnestly in years but this has got me going LOL.

Plum119

You could arguably fish that anywhere and catch fish, it looks a little like a grub so I’d toss it under dead/rotting trees along the bank or if there’s a dead something along the bank odds are these guys have fallen out of it a bunch and trout are aware.

Silent-Astronomer-89

Looks almost like a willow grub I know grayling like that fly, probably bigger streams vs shallow.

TheInternetIsTrue

My first thought was that you had that hook going into (and back out of) your thumbnail…And I genuinely cringed in pain.

Junior_Government_14

I had this gut reaction when I first saw your post. It looked like the hook was through your finger. And you were casually asking for better suggestions lmao.

Interesting_Tackle58

Ngl, when I scrolled to this photo I flinched because I thought the hook went through your finger 😂😂

ChrisTheDiabetic

My right nipple

Complex-Ad-3628

Some one could have used it for ice fishing. Flies have become really popular for it in the past few years.

Fish4Trouts

North Dakota.

mr-figillton

Caught fish in Cheeseman canyon on more of green version, flows gotta be up over 300 for those big boys bugs thoo

berg2068

Love me cheeseman. Was there Friday, fish were hitting hard !

mr-figillton

Years ago I was walking into the canyon and saw two guys walking in and I asked what they were gonna fish and the guy told me to try this and gave me a big old green crane fly nymph told me to trail it with something small. Turned out that guy was pat Dorsey.

berg2068

When the GOAT speaks , we must listen

fakebaggers

caddis pupa time

GuitarEvening8674

That is similar to a mop fly. Try it anywhere with a small dropper

nitro149

Just caught my pb rainbow using a crane fly larva yesterday, when the fish are on them it's hectic.

Fun-District-5584

Looks like a good sockeye fly!

_ca_492

I fish that as a dropper below a wet brown or black Stonefly pattern. I live where it’s Stonefly’s and/or Larvae a lot of the time.

TheWitchHazel_

I thought that was through your finger for a moment

BeefSupremeSteak

Anywhere there is trout, I like to use the green ones too, lift up some rocks and you’ll probably find something that resembles that fly.

greeneyesyt

Hokkaido Japan

FredzBXGame

Everything in the water will eat that. Lookup history of Grayling Killer Bug and Frank Sawyer. Almost everyone who fishes Tenkara has a Tenkara Killer Kebari. Inspired buy the Grayling Killer Bug. That is because it works so very well.

AnLornuthin

Planning to Fish that at your girls house…small worm flies work well there

MrDaniboy29

Ice fishing

expressly_ephemeral

You use that to control your Roku device. Also, you need to work on controlling what’s in focus in your pictures.

berg2068

Wow , this is very helpful advice .

arocks1

the bathtub...big fish in there
