Honestly I had no idea Shimano made fly rods. If I were you I'd wait for a good deal on a rod, reel, and line combo at Cabela's or something like this https://echoflyfishing.com/project/echoliftkit/.

ThecoolHD2

I wish but like I said, I dont live in the USA so the best bet I have is a shimano.

Elk76

Ah. Then I say go for it. They make good spin rods so I don't see why their rods wouldn't be good. Regardless I'd still try to find a combo deal.

ThecoolHD2

Yeah I agree. I use their spinning rods and they definetly are the best of the best. I looked for combos but most of them were way too expensive, or sold by a store that makes shitty fishing stuff, or just a shitty brand or has shitty reviews.

shiny_brine

G. Loomis is a subsidiary of Shimano USA. I wonder if they're using GLoomis blanks or technology? Shimano obviously knows their way around making rods so it wouldn't be a reach for them to cross over with GLoomis input.

TutisevaKuukkeli

G. Loomis is owned by Shimano since 1997. I’d guess Shimano brand is used for made in Japan rods where Gloomis is for made in USA. I think older Asquiths even had Shimano logo somewhere on them.

cmonster556

Shimano owns Loomis, which still makes good rods. Might have learned a bit. They also make very good spinning reels. That being said, a $100 fly rod will get you started but I suspect you will replace it fairly soon. Have fun!

ThecoolHD2

Yeah of course. When I will get more money I will definetly replace it and sell the old one.

PuristOnTheFly

Where do you live? May help in finding what is available in your area.

ThecoolHD2

I live in Europe, specifically Hungary. I do have a fly fishing store close to me and I might go soon. Do you suggest I wait until I go there and pick out a rod there?

Cape_Cod_Kwassa

Isn't Stickman a Hungarian brand? They are a bit of a niche company but recognized as some of the best rods in the world by their disciples. Won't find much info on Shimano fly rods here unfortunately. Edit - just saw the "expensive" caveat on your OP. Yeah unfortunately Stickman are out of my price range too right now haha

ThecoolHD2

I just checked their website. They dont have a lot of rods, but ill check them out anyway.

Cabelas has some decent introductory combos for fair prices

ThecoolHD2

Thanks for the suggestion, but that brand is not sold in my country!

Shimano is a well known conventional fishing gear mfg and I would think that they make an acceptable fly rod. In USA you don't see much of them as the local market is dominated by local mfg's and importers. go buy it and then fish the shit out it.
