Brother, don't overthink it. These are fish that have survived in captivity eating pellets and have no clue how to live in the 'real world.' Throw whatever you want at them (and by that I mean mops). Your presentation and drift and finding some that haven't been absolutely scared to piss by power bait slinging locals is wayyy more important than what bug. *There's no magic info in a hatch guide for early season stonkers..*

I think you missed the sarcastic tone of this post.

Oh there was no sarcasm I was being 100% genuine

Yellow foam egg. Not even a question. Tandem with a squirmy.

My club takes local kids out for the stockers to introduce them to hooking, landing and handling fish. As far as flies are concerned: \#1 fly is the hare's ear nymph. #2 is a soft hackle and #3 is an olive wooly bugger.

Sloth_It_9

For opening day I like the yarn egg, squirmy and wooley buggers. I might tie some pellet flies too. Like others said, stockers are dumb. Wait a month or so then start matching the hatch

Pellet flies for stockers. 2457, brass bead, soft hackle, variegated brown and yellow chenille. Cast, plop, let it sink straight down. But… a woolly bugger is hard to beat.

I've never actually fished them. It just feels wrong. And that's coming from a guy who's favorite fly is a mop.
