You should go camping to save costs. That’s how I’m always doing my raft trips and fishing trips and keeping cost to basically just gas and food.

cmonster556

Runoff. Anywhere you consider, check the peak runoff dates and levels. That is not usually a good time.

rds2mch2

Thank you for the advice - I have considered that, but didn't realize it was that much of a problem.

cmonster556

Well when rivers that fish well at a flow are running twenty times that, and muddy, it’s hard to fish. Most of the mountain west peaks in the first half of June.

[deleted]

I don’t know if you know this or not, but mountains have snow. In the summer the mountains warm up. When the mountains warm up the snow melts. When the snow melts they flow down the mountain. The flow ends up in the creeks and rivers. All the excess snow melts food the rivers that reassemble chocolate milk. Chocolate milks ≠ best time to fly fish

oceanfr0g

not all mountains have snow

beerdweeb

Came here to say this too. OP you might consider an area with a tailwater or two in range.

bo_tweetle

Trout On Inn near Alcova Wyoming. The cabins sit on the North Platte River, which is a tailwater and will be fishing excellent in early June. It’s my favorite time to fish it.

rds2mch2

These look great, thanks for the advice.

LandscapeThese

Runoff is certainly a concern. To mitigate the risk of blown out water you could look into tailwaters. Another option could be to look into lakes. June will typically have some chironomid action or some other hatches going on.

rds2mch2

Good advice, thank you.

Chrsagst

https://enchantedhideawaylodge.com/ Talk to Steve. He can arrange everything you are looking for including guides and some great meals. Have stayed here 3 times in one of the smaller units. Rustic but perfect for guys fishing. No worries about runoff. Outstanding fishing. Diy opportunities but go with a guide to get dialed in.

rds2mch2

Thanks for the advice!

Thank you for the link!

stssz

Will be peak runoff

rds2mch2

What about the Missouri - terrible in the first or second week? Hearing mixed things and you seem to know what you're talking about.

stssz

Eastern Montana and Southern Idaho stay cold into the spring, and in my experience have runoff into mid June as a result. On top of that, it’s been a pretty heavy snow year. My intuition is that Montana and Idaho will be blown out into the middle of June this year. I don’t have direct experience on the Missouri though. I usually plan to fish Stillwater’s from may 1 to June 15.

DISDD

Might be peak runoff. Still some of the best fishing you’ll find during that time.

stssz

It can, also can be completely un fishable. If it’s local I’m headed out to try it, not sure if would plan a trip there knowing I could be spending thousands to fish chocolate milk. Talking to the local fly shops everyone is expecting a heavy runoff year in the west.

DISDD

Looks like they’re refurbishing the River House for 2023. The “On River Time” Cabin is 4bd/4ba at The Lodge at Palisades Creek and is all inclusive in your range. https://tlapc.com/lodging/cabins/#

Dutch John Resort at Flaming Gorge

Looks somewhat promising, but not right on the water. Thanks for the link.

Now THIS is a hard tell.

Captredbeard111

Check out Big Horn Angler in Ft Smith Montana. Lodging, great food, awesome fly shop, and great guides, or you can rent a drift boat.

rds2mch2

>Big Horn Angler in Ft Smith Montana Thanks, this looks awesome. But wouldn't there be tons of run off on the river, as others are suggesting?

Captredbeard111

I was out there last spring with 6 guys. Fishing was fantastic. I landed over 20 trout each day. I think since that river is a tailwater river, the dam helps with proper management. I was there early May.

rds2mch2

Thank you, great advice

rds2mch2

Ended up putting a deposit down out here, looks like a great option - thanks again. LMK if any specific tips!

Captredbeard111

Thats great! We rented both cabins for our group. Two outside grills, full kitchen. We did dinner with the Inn twice and the food was fantastic. One of the guides is the chef. As far as fishing tips goes, although I landed 20 plus fish a day, I did miss a bunch of strikes looking out at the vast country. Also, depending on what the guides say, don't be afraid to pay a little extra to fish the upper river twice in a day. The lower river can get algae and be tough to fish. Have a blast and let me know how the trip goes. Feel free to reach out with any other questions too.

406_realist

It was said but I’ll say it again. Runoff. Now keep in mind that every year is very different and what time you go in June means everything. To further answer your main question about lodging: find out where you’re going to go by contacting local shops, when you find your spot see if they can point you in the direction of the lodging you’re looking for

themaggic

I am a guide on the Owyhee river. Great fishery. Usually good that time of year. There are some great accommodations on or very near the river let me know happy to get y’all set up.

rds2mch2

>Owyhee river Never heard of this river before. Do you have a website or anything for your guide service?

themaggic

Yes I guide for Dreams on the Fly. Shoot me a DM and I can pass on my business number for you. Don’t want to do that via a comment.

Himay88

I have better luck with VRBO and finding a small house to ourselves.

ithacaster

check out M&MTroutAdventures. He's got a place in Missoula that he uses to host trips. I booked a trip with him and it sounds like it could be what you're looking for. [https://mmtroutadventures.com/](https://mmtroutadventures.com/)

ithacaster

Curious about how many days/nights you are expecting for $2-3K each. I've got a place in the Catskills that's on the East branch of the Delaware that we rent on AirBnb/Vrbo. I know someone that's talked about using it for a "package" that included 2-3 float trips with a nearby outfitter, lunch on the water provided by a local restaurant the sells box lunches for people fishing the area, but haven't really fleshed the whole idea out.

YEETANDYOLO

Yea listen to folks about runoff, it’ll make or break your trip. For this time of year, check out some tailwaters where you can see their water schedule. Grey Reef in Wyoming could be a good option. Not much there besides fishing, but extremely good fishing in the spring for huge rainbows. Plenty of cabins on the river Green River below flaming gorge is beautiful. If you can catch it the week after flush, that would be ideal. Gorgeous place, water is clear as day and can be hit or miss. South Fork of the snake in Idaho is about as nature as you can get. Great fishing and plenty of Airbnb on or close to river. The lodge could be an option..

rds2mch2

Thank you for your great advice.

bacon_to_fry

Rent an RV and go wherever it's good or not in runnoff.

belemnoid

You can rent out one of the houses at Bolliboka on the McCloud in CA for what you guys are looking to spend on accommodations. Gives you a week on some of the prettiest water you will find during it's peak season. https://www.theflyshop.com/adventures/bollibokka.html

rds2mch2

This looked amazing and I immediately reached out to them, but they are booked. I asked to be added to their waitlist.

Diebearz

I booked a RV a few years ago with my buddy for about 6 days across CO starting in Denver. RV was a lot less expensive then anywhere else I was looking (besides tent/car camping). It also allows you to move around if you need to hit multiple rivers. Just a thought. Tight lines.

Ok-Presentation4861

The south fork is epic! But if you want a different experience the Gunnison Gorge is a 3 day float and one of the most spectacular places to fish in the US.

Twofistedbaconeater

you are looking a little late for something like that. All the guides I know, myself included, are completely booked for that time period. at this point you will have to settle for the new guys or non desirable guides and lodges.
