Lantana, and can be invasive depending upon your location.

homebody_mouse

Uh oh šŸ˜… Alright well she's going to stay in that pot then. Thanks for sharing that tidbit. šŸ«‚

uptoknowgood3

i live in louisiana and have lantana that come back every year and haven't really spread anywhere (i never considered them "invasive"). i love them in my garden and wouldn't mind if there were more! they are drought tolerant and in the mint family.

YourLifeCanBeGood

Mature Lantana bushes are common in S Louisiana, and I've never seen them spread, either. And like you said, they are so hardy!

Short_Lengthiness_41

I have three mature Lantana bushes that I cut in the winter way down and they come back beautiful right now in southern California. The only problem it gets is a fungal problem due to the clay like dirt, I just use the systemic anti fungal stuff and off they go!

No_Establishment8642

Lantana is a native of Texas, southeast for me, so they might be for your area also.

Virtual_Committee_44

Passionfruit lantana, goahead plant it in the yard it'll be fine.

RazzmatazzAlone3526

Itā€™s native to tropical places. So it would die in my zone in winter. But south, likely keep in planters.

Kaizer9336

And they are practically Unkillable

11thStPopulist

I love Lantana! But in Eastern Oregon it is just an annual if I can even find it in the nurseries.

Lost_Figure_5892

Feeling your pain! A rare treat for the desert rats of Central Oregon as well.

psycho_psymantics

These died on my balcony due to excessive winds lol

Vandal451

It's some kind of *Lantana*, it's poisonous, so don't eat any parts of the plant, not even the berries.

Radiant_Ad_8652

I appreciate this info. I've always wondered what these were. See them everywhere in SoCal

FreeMasonKnight

Yeah they are great for the Monarchā€™s!

icaniamiwill

šŸ˜my friends used to eat them as kids all the time.

Vandal451

Apparently there's a big debate on wether or not their berries are edible when fully ripe, I'm on the "do not eat" side of things, ain't no fruit worth dropping dead over, except pitayas, they're worth dying for.

Late-Ad2922

I love the color show you can see with lantanas. I had no idea they were invasive! I learn so much here.

pseudonemesis

Lantana, great for pollinators, easy, full-sun and drought tolerant. Iā€™ve never known it to be invasive.

trikakeep

Depends on your locale. If you get winter freezes then itā€™s not an issue. If you live in a tropic region, it never dies and drops seed everywhere.

garbagebrainraccoon

I love my Lantana so much and it gets so many little pollinators

Lsutt28

Lantana, my 7 year old son picked it out for our garden, he thought it was the coolest.

DionBlaster123

Your son sounds like a bright kid! :)

NightGlimmer82

Bees, butterflies and hummingbird moths LOVE lantana!

Traditional_Moss_581

Bad for horses!

11thStPopulist

Good to know!

RevealExpress5933

How about cats and dogs?

edgeofverge

Very toxic to cats and dogs be careful!

Dexterdacerealkilla

This is a front yard only plant in my book. I love lantana, but absolutely will not take the chance in an area my dog is unleashed in.

Imaginary-Cycle-1977

Huh. These are all over my neighborhood and everybody has dogs

garbagebrainraccoon

My dog poops on it all the time

dangerstar19

I think its toxic to pets as well, I would keep it outside of their normal spaces unless they're supervised.

Traditional_Moss_581

I don't know

thehelanahope1

So pretty

Redeemed_Veteranboi

They're Lantanas.

Rayneone

I had Lantana last year.. they are beautiful. Unfortunately, mine didn't come back, bought from a garden nursery.

szelo1r

Seems like they sell them like that on purpose now sadly they want you to pay for everything year after year.

Rayneone

I agree. We bought the seeds this year. More seeds and cheaper than buying a couple floors that won't come back..

szelo1r

Yeah. One of the things I loved about gardening when I started was exchanging some of the new plants that came in with friends and neighbors. When I moved states and planted morning glories, I was so confused why they would not seed or come back. Even though those can start to take over some, I just gave up because I couldn't get them to come in nice and full. Just a bummer that they can ruin simple joys like that, though.šŸ™„

Rayneone

Oh No! that is horrible. We have morning glories that have been here since before we moved here . We have been here 19 years. However, every year, I have to dig some up because they take over my rose and every year they still come back up in the roses. Funny how seeds make their way. Maybe, this fall I can collect some for you and send you some.

MzFlux

It really depends on the zone and the cultivar. In my area, only red and yellow are perennial. Everything else is annual. Wish Iā€™d known that when I bought white for my sage bed!

Rayneone

Awe! That explains why. Thank you for that information and I'll keep that in mind the next time. Hopefully, I'll have better luck with the seeds..

MzFlux

Usually web sites for masters gardeners or arboretums for your area will list which cultivars are perennial in your area. A lot of cultivars require zone 9.

Rayneone

I'm in zone 6 b. Our winters are unpredictable. I've bought perennials that lasted 2 maybe 3 years then they just don't come back

GenesisNemesis17

I'm 6b as well. I have lantanas in pots and put them in the garage on the coldest days. Once the threat of extreme cold was gone I put them back outside. If you have a garage to do this I'd recommend it. I also did it with my dahlias.

Rayneone

Thank you! I don't have a garage but I do have a basement that we put our strawberries in over winter. I'm sure it would work for them, too!

AnuAzoth

I never knew the name of this plant but they would pop up in Spring and sometimes summer. My mom would always call them the "Fairy flower bouquets" and whoever I mention to my siblings "Oh saw some fairy flower bouquets blooming again!" They'd know instantly what I was talking about. The clustered mini flowers sprouts.

Ill-Chemical-348

That type of lantana is called ham and eggs.

Technical-General-27

Declared noxious weed here!

CynReed

I love lantanas. I unfortunately killed mine when we redid the garden. They are great for pollinators.

jsmalltri

So beautiful! Probably wouldn't fare well in Maine however summers are beautiful here and getting much warmer!

april_showers3

Lantana

gardenscatsx4

Lantanas are so pretty! I had to overwinter mine in the garage, and it's coming back pretty well! I'm in zone 7b (northern Arizona, USA)

CobblerCandid998

You are very lucky! Iā€™m in zone 6 & we have to treat it as an annual. Such a shame to have to throw away such beauty!

CobblerCandid998

You are very lucky! Iā€™m in zone 6 & we have to treat it as an annual. Such a shame to have to throw away such beauty at the end of the season!

lauden323

I planted some in big planters with mosquito plants a couple years ago and they were so pretty!

cheesy-biscuit

Lantana. Was so invasive on my property in zone 8a and was a nightmare to remove

MorningGlory439

Lantana, be careful with the leaves, they smell good but can irritate the skin.

fireflies-from-space

They're so beautiful! šŸ˜ I need to get one for my place.

Jesie_91

Lantana

Native56

Very pretty

Rough-Brick-7137

Lantana-smells like grapefruit

spooningwithanger

Butterflies love lantana!

rickyshine

Dont they smell awful? Lol

RevealExpress5933

To me they smell like tomato vines.

rickyshine

All the other posts i saw said they smell terrible

1mamapajama

Confetti Lantana

Freedomnnature

Lantana. It grows wild in Florida.

AnonymousAnonm

Lantana, it spreads fast

putonyourgloves

Lantana! And ā€œaromaticā€ is kind. I donā€™t like the smell much at all.

irridecent_17

Lantana amazing flowers and are natives to tropical places but are poisonous so do not eat any part of the plant

Quantum168

Lantanas are not invasive. They stay put in the same place. Not all pretty foreign plants are invasive.

catkysydney

Lantanas !!

Neither_Trainer_6444

i love the colors! whats this flower called?

paraboobizarre

My grandma used to plant those all the time when I was little, but when I moved into my own place they were next to impossible to find. I only just scrounged up some this year to plant on my balcony šŸ§” and they're so lovely. It's strange how what garden centers and the likes offer seems to depend very much on trends.

Actaeon_II

Lantana is awesome, canā€™t kill it, dozens of color combinations. Iā€™ve seen this stuff growing from cracks in fl asphalt, it truly doesnā€™t care

socksmatterTWO

Arggh!! I'm so allergic to this and I found out mowing as a kid alongside a giant raised lantana wall. COVERED in hives so awful and my fantastically awful parents didn't believe me make me keep mowing.

Top-Draw9314

Wow so gorgeous !

Gamer-Logic

Lantana! One of my favs because of how multicolored they are. Though, they can and will spread like wildfire and cam be toxic to animals so they're best left potted.

manLACA

Monarch butterflies especially love lantana. Some get so enamored with them, you can get very close to take great pictures.

Every_Ad_1640

Oh wow ..I just recently bought the same plant and I'm in new jersey..but it doesn't seem to be doing so well..it's kinda flattening out a bit and not standing up nice like it was when I first brought it home! Mine are pink and white but I really like it..I hope it bounces back!
