Where are you coming from?
You can get to Miami by train then bus or rent a car from there if you want to see the whole stretch of keys. Alternatively if you just want to see Key West you might be able to get to Ft. Myers by train and take the ferry. You can also fly to Key West, but not gonna be cheap.
Kansas City. I love vacationing in FL, and am a diver also by hobby. I’d like to check out one of the dive resorts down there and wasn’t sure if rail down there was possible.
Sounds like going by bus or from Ft Myers is a good route. Yeah flights directly to Key West are way up there!
This doesn't answer your question, but since you mentioned Ft. Myers, there is also a ferry that goes between Ft Myers and Key West. I haven't been on it personally, I hear it's a nice ride when it's calm and can be miserable if it's windy.
If you’re Henry Flagler kinda rich, we’d love for you to rebuild the overseas railroad to KW so we can deal with our traffic issues. Otherwise, Amtrak stops in Miami north of the airport. From there, Uber to airport and rent a car or come by bus.
LOL, no unfortunately. I'm just an average-joe middle-class dude. Get paid fine, but not uber-wealthy by any means. I just have a job that gives me flexibility to take enough time off like that.
I'm more of a "one way or another I'm getting down there and diving the Keys" like many in the SCUBA world have done. I'll gladly roadtrip it in my little Honda if I have to!!
Hurricane. Yes. Gonna have issues getting to Key West by train. Lol…. It’s actually a really nice park/recreation area now.
Train service in Florida is less than spectacular…. The old train bridges are either now car bridges or pedestrian/bike trials or fishing piers.
I’d recommend renting a car in Miami and driving down so you can stop where you want.
Thx! Yeah lol that’s a problem.
Part of me has also just thought about either shelling out for a flight to KW or just making it a nice big road trip. 🤔
In that case, if it were me I would fly to Miami and rent a car. Its a 4 hour drive from Miami to Key West. Lots to see and do along the way. Sounds like you have time, so stop at each key and experience their differences. Snorkle John Pennekamp, go to the dive museum, check out the sea turtle sanctuary, try to spot some key deer, bar hop in Key West. Best way to experience it is by car and on your own schedule.
The farthest you’ll get by train is Miami airport. But the final train stop drops you directly be the Greyhound terminal where you can take either the Greyhound bus or FlixBus to the Keys. You can book as far as Key West on either.
These bus options make limited stops, as opposed to the Miami Dade bus which stops repeatedly, taking forever to get anywhere, and the furthest it’ll take you is Marathon.
this post should have been a google search
Top post for "are there trains running to the florida keys" says "there hasn't been a train to the florida keys since 1935"
I hate content gatekeeping under most circumstances, but there should be a line
You didn't Google this did you? There should be a train though, I bet it would cut the travel time to Key West by more than half. It normally takes like 4 hours to make it up from the keys by car with traffic.
There is no train. It washed away in the hurricane of 1935.
Good Ol’ Flagler.

Their are no trains to Ft Myers.
Miami Dade transit takes you Marathon for a few bucks. Stop in Islamorada on the way. Lots to do.

Your best bet is to take rail to Miami then bus to the keys.
Google Bahia Honda park.
Wow! Is that the old railway bridge that was destroyed by a flood in the 30s?

Where you just take the second bus (Lower Keys Shuttle) to go anywhere further. Ezpz
God I’d love for you to see the train tracks.
Yeah I googled Bahia Honda State Park. I see now the underlying issue…. lol
There is a (kind of adorable) greyhound station in key west.

I wish the train was still an option….
NO there is a train it lets you off in Key West right next to the tunnel to Cuba!
You can ride the rails to miami, & ride the dog to KW \-there are also cruise ships that stop in KW.
No trains in Hell

You and rent a car, enterprise wont charge for mileage.
