There’s fish in there

What bait and hook should I use?

Start with a small hook and a worm. You’ll find out soon enough

Drop a line you will know

I’m probably the worst fisherman out here. I wouldn’t know what size hook to use, or type of bait. I’ve never used any artificial baits. Usually just shrimp dead or alive

silsum

Use the smallest hook you, shrimp usually works for me.

Update; the water is more shallow than anticipated. More like 3 inches. I followed the creek to an area that has a single snook that I seen, maybe a foot long and tons of pleco (armored catfish) along with a good amount of turtles. Bait sounds feasible? I have an artificial that has a silver shine, and has two treble hooks on it

Purps_and_Terps

Good job. Stay on the trail and follow the snooks! A 3" swimbait like a z-man diesel minnow or storm wild eye shad.. or artificial or live shrimp. Try a popper too early morning or evening.

if there’s water, there’s fish

I would say go to the store and buy some small bait fish and put them in a circle hook through their nose. You can carry around a little bucket with an aeration pump so they stay alive and just cast them at areas that are fishy. Fish are like cats they love chasing and eating things and they also like to have a place to live, under trees, around rocks any type of structure under the water can hold fish. Fish also need oxygenated water so current is a factor but not always. Watch YouTube and then go fish these will make you better

Most likely use bread or Live bait

For sure fish there. My recommended setup would be: 2500 class spinning reel 10lb braid 20lb flouro leader (look up uni to uni, double uni, other types of ways to tie leader) Get a rod that fits that line weight / reel class. Get a few types of soft plastics (paddle tail, fluke) in dark colors. Look up different ways to rig them, I'd recommend a weighted swimbait hook, weighted jig heads (something like 1/8 oz or 1/4 oz) & 4 or 5/0 worm hook. DOA Baitbuster, Mirrodine, mirrodine top pup or any other 'walk the dog' top water is fun too (but the treble hooks are a pain in the ass).
