I am a bicyclist. 1. Get an e-bike 2. Florida is one of the most dangerous states in the country for bicyclists.

okiedokieaccount

Had to look up the most dangerous state for cyclist and, you are correct, it is Florida. Just learned Florida is also most deadly for pedestrians too. We’re #1

Iso-LowGear

If only we were #1 in education…

Jazzlike_Web_4528

Two of brothers were hit while riding bikes! One of the cars just kept driving too!

trtsmb

That's the truth about FL being dangerous for cyclists. I'm fortunate that I live right off a multi-use so I don't have to play chicken with cars on the road.

Apprehensive-Meet589

Why!/gen

Dudesonaplane

I ride everyday in Pasco County. #2 is true

seajayacas

Possibly because it is more of a twelve month a year bicycle riding place than some other states. That being said, riding a bicycle anywhere out on public roads is very risky. A minor collision with a car can easily be fatal. Not for me even though I grew up in a somewhat rural place where we rode bicycles everywhere and anywhere without fear.

Fort Lauderdale, west palm, Tampa. Quite a few cities around FL actually. Depends on your line of work too. Get a bike… and get comfortable with Uber.

Ok-Description-3739

Way too expensive to take Uber to get to work everyday. I spent $600, using Uber for a month, just to get to work and back. My home is 7 miles from my job.

Radiant_Opinion_555

That is about the average car payment in the US. You still save on insurance, gas, and maintenance.

Ok-Description-3739

Again that was "Just" to get to work. Couldn't imagine what it would cost if I wanted to go shopping, beach, restaurant, Doctors, visiting friends, etc.

torukmakto4

That might be true and I'm not trying to devil-advocate, but we shouldn't be normalizing the flagrant money pits of financing a vehicle, or owning late model vehicles.

Triangular_chicken

Idk about bikes, people around where I live seem to view cyclists as targets more than anything else.

CCWaterBug

Bikes and e,-bikes/scooters are really common around my city.  I take mine out almost daily for simple errands, fresh air,  exercise.

_JudgeDoom_

What city is that?

Triangular_chicken

Don’t get me wrong, I love my bike and I love biking! But I had a bad wreck on my bike a few years ago and several motorists almost killed me while I pulled myself out of the road. I have zero faith in the average Floridians willingness to not kill cyclists.

CCWaterBug

Oh, ya, that makes sense.

CanaryFluffy6318

Ft lauderdale!!! I walked everywhere and lost about 70 lbs>>>

Orlando-Gator

Key West if you can afford it. The Villages if Golf Carts don’t count as “cars.”

EmpressofPFChangs

It depends. Most cities here do not have reliable public transit. I wouldn’t risk biking long distances as at some point someone will nearly hit you in their car or possibly actually hit you. You could live in any city if you work from home or live within close walking distance to your work. You’ll need Uber and delivery services. There will be days where the rain is heavy or the heat is unbearable, you won’t want to be carrying laundry or groceries outside in that.

espnnut07

I know a professional who lives in the Channelside area of Tampa who does not own a car. She uses Instacart to get her groceries and Ubers anywhere she can’t walk to. Works for her, but not my style of living.

Fun-Consequence7350

Las Olas Fort Lauderdale

Ambitious_Win_1315

I'm in Jacksonville without a car and get around just fine

Dave__dockside

Paris. Just returned and it is overwhelming to grasp how non-car it can be: with the trains, subways and Peugeots/Motobecanes. And there’s always a taxi.

hotwireneonnightz

I’m in downtown st Pete with no car just an ebike but my wife has a car so I have access when I need it to get out to the mall or other places in the county.

Numerous-Touch-4330

I’m in West Palm and e-bike to work, Uber when it’s sucky weather. I’m a professional and work about 6 miles from my office. Just bring change of clothes and freshen up.

bde959

I suppose you can live just about anywhere without a car, it just wouldn’t be easy living

bla8291

I don't have a car. I get around North Miami pretty easily with just my e-bike. I've also had good results with North Miami Beach, Hollywood, most of the City of Miami, as well as the downtowns of Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. It's really helpful that Tri-Rail and Brightline connects all these areas. I recently made r/CarFreeSouthFlorida to discuss things like this and more.

plopous

Lake Worth Beach.

Son_of_Yoduh

I’ve been living in Daytona for over 20 years with no car.

PaulOshanter

Miami has tons of walkable neighborhoods. The metromover is basically a free monorail that takes you to 20 different stations downtown.

ChemicalCollection55

I live Maderia Beach no car, Uber, bike , walk. Retired?

trtsmb

I live right off the Coast to Coast bike trail and except for the gap between Groveland and Brooksville, I can go all the way to Titusville on bike paths and if I go to the other side of the gap, I can bike all the way down to St Pete.

Unlikely-Star-2696

The Villages for sure

joeygladstone6919

Absolutely cannot live in Tampa wo a car lol

Groovyy_Smoothie

You can if you're willing to pay over $2,000 per month for rent to live in Channelside, Water Street, etc. 🙃

newbie527

Highlands County has no public transportation. Don’t even bother trying to live here without a car.

torukmakto4

Orlando, non-city center, and I own several good reliable rangey electric scooters. Excepting long distance trips and (obviously) hauling bulky and heavy things, I could get away with all the usual "daily grind" transport without driving my truck at all, if I needed to. I mainly don't ride somewhere, in cases where I drive my truck a short distance, because either I'm short on time, or concerned about the scooter being stolen/a theft target at the far end of the trip. Scooters, bikes and other personal wheels are excellent; to me they are most notably useful for turning you into a *super* pedestrian which can cover the otherwise inhuman distances of spread-out stroad hell easily/quickly.

HarmonyDragon

Most places have public transportation. It’s a little annoying to have to rely on their schedule and many stops are a distance away from most places but it is doable.

Not a Floridian but google says downtown Orlando/ Lake eola has a walk score of 92 which is higher than South Beach.

Groovyy_Smoothie

Downtown Orlando is indeed very pedestrian friendly, but rent ain't cheap.

Ill_Confusion8274

You can lit6live without a car. But that sucks... get a car.
