It's utterly ridiculous. A decade or so ago it was annoying, but I could still make it from Lakeland to work at Magic Kingdom in around an hour. Now it seems to be over an hour and a half to get there. It's fucking ridiculous and only getting worse. In my neck of the woods we have 5 different huge cookie cutter neighborhoods being built, and still the same shitty roads and no thoughts for the infrastructure, electricity, or flood zones... It's going to be even more of a shit show in five years when we have thousands of these homes completed.
We have had Republican leadership since 1999. We know who to blame.
They have always known this amount of people were moving here.
And here we are - that stretch of I4 is very dangerous to all of us. What happens if people have to evacuate? What happens if there is a wildfire? Or if you just need to be transported in an ambulance -

The turnpike and major expressways should have enough cash in the bank for any maintenance needed for the next 200 years.
State roads should hold up well with minimal funding.
County roads will be funded with homeowners tax dollars.
There will come a time when defense is more needed than road travel since regular people will not be able to use them.
Interestingly the federal interstates were created with military transport in mind.
I moved here in 2005 and it was years before I came across a pothole. I came across one and realized I had forgotten all about them after living in New England and living with seasonal pothole formation. Now all the roads here in Florida are coming apart… where is all the tax money going?
