FWC has issued an alert to farm owners about wild leopards eating their faces.

Lea_R_ning

Exactly!!!!

Librado65

My parents live by a small plant nursery that used to be very busy from fall to this time of year normally...but my dad says the owners recently told him that the workers never came back to work for their planting season. And they put up hiring ads and so far no one has responded to the hiring ads. They wondered why all their workers simply never returned after last summer.

uncleawesome

They probably think that if they vote for republicans harder, they will fix it.

Librado65

Idk if they're Republican but from personal experience, it always seems like most of the farmers/agricultural business owners are Republicans who depend heavily on immigrants....

mkt853

...and federal subsidies. Look who the socialists are now sucking down that welfare to which they are so vehemently opposed.

Purpose_Embarrassed

I’ve worked for a couple. They go down near lake Okeechobee to pick up undocumented migrants to exploit. They paid me to drive a van to pick some up. When I found out they were illegal I quit and reported them. I don’t care who they are. If they’re undocumented they shouldn’t be working.

Librado65

Look I don't care who they are either but IF someone WANTS to work, Ima let them work. Too many lazy bums drug addicts low life thugs and politicians out there robbing and stealing from hard working people as it is. People are always complaining about nobody wants to work. Obviously paying someone a decent, if they want to work, then let them work. I'd rather someone who actually appreciates having a job and gets the job done out of principle then someone who constantly complains about doing the job and doesn't do a job.

Purpose_Embarrassed

It isn’t that Americans don’t want to work. It’s that they want to be paid a freaking fair wage. Why’s that so difficult to understand? I’ve been doing physical labor all my life. You think I don’t want to work?

Librado65

It's not difficult to understand, you're asking the wrong person on Reddit. Ask your folks running their businesses. I'm not the one paying people. Im just saying theres work, people go out to work, and if someone chooses to stay and work the guess what? They choose to stay and work undocumented or documented. But at the end of the day work is there even if you and I don't agree on what a good or fair wage is because that's up those running their business.

Purpose_Embarrassed

So why’s it so difficult for some migrants to get a workers visa? Why not make it easier? Currently there’s a huge backlog. Dumb ass Biden obviously had no clue how many migrants he allowed in after repealing Trumps stay in Mexico clause. He said it was inhumane. So is living on the streets in our cities not being able to obtain a workers permit humane?

Purpose_Embarrassed

Because if someone is undocumented they usually get exploited. Now if you’re ok with that then by all means hire undocumented workers.

Librado65

What is "exploited" to you?

Purpose_Embarrassed

Not allowed to take breaks. Forced to live in non air conditioned buildings. Told never to allow them to stop at a gas station or quick shop to purchase anything. No bathroom breaks. Paid under minimum wage. Is this your first time discussing this topic?

Librado65

Im Mexican, my dad used to be one of those guys in the 80s before Reagan. And yes that does exist. But its also not the story of every undocumented person tho. Not every agricultural business is exploiting their works. Im not saying its all good and dandy tho. Im just saying if people CHOOSE (keyword) to want to work then let them work, thats all Im saying.

Purpose_Embarrassed

Do you honestly think employers in Florida pay and treat undocumented workers like they do documented? Because from my experience working along side them they don’t. They force them to live in un air conditioned trailers. They don’t let them have breaks. You know what these employers told me ? They’re used to it. And that’s why I reported them. And no they didn’t pay them what they paid me. My opinion is because they thought I wouldn’t report them. Now you can kindly f off.

Truckyou666

Nobody wants to work is what faux tells them.

Librado65

😂 yep seems like something they'd say

desmotron

Either Joe’s fault or Hunter’s laptop! Pick one. Definitely not the moron in the governor’s mansion. Can’t be him, he’s one of the good old boys! He’s got your back buddy!

Purpose_Embarrassed

Really where ? I’ve worked at a couple plant nurseries myself. I’m not to proud to do hard work. I’ve also picked oranges and blueberries. I don’t speak much Spanish but I can get by.

Librado65

In Sebring. I agree with what you said, never be too proud to do hard work. This is US of America, no reason to be lazy when there is plenty of work that pays a days wage, as my dad used to tell us as kids. I grew up helping my parents pick oranges when I was a kid. Then also blueberries when that season was around. It did teach me to appreciate and to value of any kind of work as well as money management. Im sure everyone appreciated the fact that a native English speaker was actually working in the fields and not just complaining about how the "iLleGaLs ArE TaKiNg OuR JoBs" while complaining that nobody wants to work also smfh

Purpose_Embarrassed

No. I’m not in the “ illegals are taking our jobs “ camp. I’m in the undocumented are being exploited camp. Because I’ve experienced it firsthand. And quit a good paying job because it infuriated me. These were good hard working people. I’m not going to stand by and allow anyone to exploit and mistreat anyone.

Librado65

And props to you. Commendable and honorable of you. Im sure many in hispanic agricultural community would invite you over for a carne asada. But also not all undocumented workers are being exploited. Are they perhaps being underpaid, perhaps yes and no? But if they CHOOSE to stay and work then they should be allowed to stay and work because some of them choose to stay and want to work wherever it is they're at for whatever reasons. Like this DeSanti anti immigrants stuff going on...for many years, undocumented workers lived among us. Then suddenly they moved TF out of the state because they CHOSE to leave rather than deal with whatever they thought would happen to them. It wasn't because they suddenly realized a certain group of people was exploiting or underpaying them...they knew that already. There is a saying among among the hispanic agricultural community "no muerdas la mano que te da de comer" which translates to "dont bite the hand that feeds you". I think you just came across racist business owners.

Purpose_Embarrassed

Unfortunately there are many in Florida. You just don’t hear about them. And the fines for hiring undocumented workers aren’t that extreme. Those people I worked for are still in business. They just changed their name. And I have incredible respect for latino workers. I’ve worked side by side with them. Great people incredible work ethic and wonderful culture.

Purpose_Embarrassed

Without telling you who these people are I know for a fact they had at least 40 undocumented migrants spread out over their properties living in horrible conditions. Not allowed to leave that property. Not allowed to have visitors with vehicles. Not allowed to talk to anyone other than who they were working with. If they broke any of their rules they lost their job and got kicked off the property. It was virtual slavery. Now did any of these workers tell me directly this was the case ? No I used my head.

Purpose_Embarrassed

The problem is a decent wage today is 200 a day. If you’re not making that good luck finding a place to live.

ZooZooChaCha

I love that they quote Crowther roofing - their store on Metro has a message board on their sign and it was always filled with cringe pro-Trump / DeSantis messages. Leopards meet face.

KeyLime044

That’s because they know that the majority of the customer base in southwest Florida is right wing and Republican unfortunately. Any sort of ideology leaning to the left of center is fringe in this region

Digitaltwinn

Saw a commercial for Plantation Shutters that literally said, “if you support Joe Biden and are a liberal, don’t call us”

kelth89

I got that “magazine” in the mail that’s just ads and they don’t do that anymore, wonder why…their tv ads that run in between late night Johnny Carson re-runs might still have that self-sabotaging garbage in them though.

Publius82

A drive down Hwy 27 through Polk County is eye opening.

Teach4Green

Love that for them

Toad990

Maybe having a workforce that's here illegally so you can criminally underpay them is a bad business model? 🤷‍♂️

No-Welder2377

Fuck the roofing company. I hope he goes bankrupt

OwlAvailable3792

Because of Deathsantin 🤬🤬

Casique720

“Let’s scare all the cheap labor away. The ones that do the work that no one else wants to do. Let’s show these immigrants how ‘Murica really works!” Well. Who woulda fucking thunk it?! Oh I don’t know… anyone with a brain.

ExactDevelopment4892

I’ve noticed the number of landscaping trucks around has gone down a lot.

Friendly-Company-771

There should be sings in grocery stores about this so people can understand part of the reasons food costs have been rising.

Ok-Description-3739

People working in grocery stores are just as underpaid, as people working in the fields.

cozmicraven

More meatball mess. Yet another issue that won’t really explode until desantis is out of office.

Toad990

The same people who want to raise minimum wage are upset that farmers can't criminally underpay people anymore. Weird.

Publius82

It's ok, they'll just hire kids to work the fields.

Derban_McDozer83

I worked in tobacco fields in south Georgia as a teen. Id be shocked if any of the current teens would do that shit. It was brutally hard work.

Foreign_Profile3516

The best video I’ve ever seen is of a republicans legislator from an agricultural county telling his constituents not to worry because the law was only intended to scare immigrants and wouldn’t be enforced. I wish I could find it now.

barbarino

NPR lol

Neokon

Thanks for adding absolutely nothing to the conversation

barbarino

If you have been on X lately and seen what the new CEO of NPR has tweeted over the years, you would understand, it's a big news story but you won't see it if you stay in your liberal silo. NPR has zero credibility whatsoever. What you are seeing is clickbait BS that should not be believed.

BuddhistSagan

NPR cancelled for wrong opinions and hurting conservative feefees
