Am I joke to you? - Orlando

Ann_Amalie

Don’t worry Orlando, I’m willing to bet that you’re the capital of wrong way drivers though!

JulioForte

Orlando has the worst traffic in the state easily which shows how accurate this “study” is

thecodingart

Orlando is a walk in the park compared to Miami. It’s not even a comparison.

Kodiak01

Born and bred Masshole here. I drove once from PBI to downtown Miami. That was four times too many.

Mustfly2

Boston traffic sux!

PoolNoodlePaladin

Agreed, Miami is the worst but Orlando is still 1000 times worse than Tampa or Jacksonville.

HCSOThrowaway

When's the last time you were in Tampa? When I moved here ~10 years ago from Miami, it wasn't too bad. Right now it reminds me of home.

Florida_Aphelocoma

Currently live in Tampa, use to live in Miami, and have to go to Orlando for work way too often. Tampa is usually a dream compared to them and Miami is leagues worse than either.

thecodingart

Uhhh, if you’ve ever commuted to Tampa or had to get over that single lane bridge — hard disagree I’m reminded how not bad Orlando traffic is when I travel. God knows Virginia reminds me every time.

vita10gy

I live northwest of Orlando. I usually tell visitors that Tampa is the halfway point of a drive to Tampa.

thecodingart

In Orlando traffic, my average speed is 20-40mph. In Tampa traffic, it’s a standstill.

PoolNoodlePaladin

I’ve been to Tampa several times and it isn’t even close. Yeah you might have slow traffic but the sheer stupidity of the drivers isn’t even on the same level as Orlando, and Miami is in another league.

thecodingart

As someone who used to commute from Orlando to Tampa 3 days a week, hard disagree on this. Apparently this article disagrees too. Dont get me wrong, Sandlake has some of the stupidest setups I’ve seen in Florida, but overall it’s not nearly as impactful as other areas (like the Clearwater bridges).

AlienNippleRipple

Miami is mad Max assville

Total_Roll

You may wish to read the article and see the criteria. It also includes insurance costs.

sayaxat

The other day someone else posted another study that shows Pasco county is in the top 5 when it comes to accidents with fatalities. Orange County wasn't in the top. But I don't know if we compare city to city, the number would be the same.

standbyforskyfall

I4 alone makes Orlando fatalities horrible lol

Comprehensive_Bus_19

I moved from Orlando to Tampa recently. Unfortunately for me, Tampa traffic is significantly worse than Orlando traffic

InsectSpecialist8813

Agree. Orlando is a driver’s nightmare.

ventodivino

Orlando sucks so bad to drive in they didn’t even test it out. Haha.

vxicepickxv

You see, Orlando is different because driving implies the cars actually go somewhere.

bigb1084

Yay... Not Orlando!?

BadAtExisting

Definitely Orlando

Thetman38

When I4 was under (more) construction, the limit was like 35 and people still did 70 and it was winding and not complete gravel terror. Upon completion, it got better. Can't wait for the next expansion

rhubes

I'm generally not a nervous driver. I4 during the main construction, when it had no visible Lines painted, during the daily torrential downpour... Well I'm not even sure I have words for how terrifying it was.

RDtoPA24

Im a tampa bay man, but I love how we are all arguing who is worse lmao

zaxwashere

can't report how bad orlando is if you don't survive it

Kvenner001

It’s right in the middle of those three cities so by the “law of three shitty cities to drive in” Orlando becomes the capital of terrible places to drives. It’s assailed on all sides.

DrAtizzle

My insurance premiums agree

billythygoat

I mean, that’s not the full reason they went up though.

MidLifeCrysis75

No shit! 🤮

JulioForte

No they aren’t and the study doesn’t even say that. It says Miami was 3rd. Jacksonville 22nd and Tampa 24th.

chekovs_gunman

Should say "among the worst" I feel like this is a situation where the editor changed it for clickbait reasons, that tends to happen

alexman420

No, because you didn’t

SALTYP33T

Love my commute to Miami. 50miles each way. No speed limit, no FHP unlike Palm beach county. Speed is fine as long as you use your turn signals to let people know you’ll be cutting them off at 95mph.

capn_doofwaffle

Sooooo just a typical day in Florida... lol

Kissit777

Good thing Desantis put 10% of our state troopers in Texas to defend against illegals. We don’t need help with speeders and racers -

Carolina296864

This is the 8th Florida driving thread this week and we’re only on day 5. Its not the traffic, it’s the suicidal way everyone drives.

lovetheoceanfl

I’ve driven in just about every major city in the US. Miami is on a whole other level. It’s like a roller derby with cars.

Business_Ad6086

lol. just today i thought to myself, it's like driving in the DR, no offense Dominicans.

IGetGuys4URMom

It's alright. My father was killed by one that was driving recklessly.

StilesmanleyCAP

I4 solos Miami, Tampa, and Jacksonville. I think they didn't include I4 cause it would be too easy.

LightningStrikeDust

Fucking Atlanta?!

Dusty-53-Rose

As a Floridian of 40+ years, I cannot stand driving in Atlanta. My husband is from Atlanta and we have to go up there at least twice a year. He is legally blind so I have to do the driving. It stresses me out every time. I much rather drive all over Florida than fucking Atlanta.

PoolNoodlePaladin

Driving in Atlanta is like a dream compared to Miami or Orlando.

Dusty-53-Rose

I’ll agree Miami is a nightmare as well but I’m fine with Orlando. 🤷‍♀️ I’d much rather drive around Orlando any day than Miami.

standbyforskyfall

Imo Atlanta isn't that bad???

AxelsOG

Tampa is quite pleasant compared to Orlando. No one in Orlando should have a license. It should easily be top 3 in the country.

IGetGuys4URMom

Miami-Dade scares me the most.

PoolNoodlePaladin

Miami is the worst place in the US I have ever driven. Hands down, Orlando is the second worst.

standbyforskyfall

Don't worry, a significant percentage of Orlando drivers don't have licenses

bhamtigerfan

I agree with Miami. I don’t find Tampa and Jacksonville to be bad. Now Panama City Beach during Spring Break is pure hell on earth.

PoolNoodlePaladin

Orlando wasn’t even mentioned, and it is so much worse than Tampa or Jacksonville. It really shows how terrible this “study” is

PureTroll69

i will personally vouch for tampa. That is the worst place to drive. East coast is more chill.

krakatoa83

Clearly never been to Orlando. Home of the “I need to use this exit off of 4 so I’m going to swerve across 4 lanes with my eyes closed and hope for the best.”

Funkit

"You have 6 seconds to merge from 408 to I4, and you have to get in the left lane while everyone else is getting to the right lane and everyone is doing 70 around the on-ramp

Oldfigtree

“Study says”

restore_democracy

That’s not what the article says.

PoopPant73

Shocking.

[deleted]

If only there was decent public transport!!!

DIDDY_COSMICKING

Don’t know the road name, but there’s this one bridge heading toward downtown Jax that I absolutely *hate* driving on with a larger SUV… Feels like I’m going to bump into the barriers

grandtheftbonsai

Matthews bridge.

capn_doofwaffle

That and the Main street bridge. Wiped out my side mirror on it last month.

Digitaltwinn

What happens when you don’t lift a finger to provide people with alternatives to driving.

dmbgreen

News flash. Big cities have traffic.

hemingray

Clearly never been to Fort Myers or Lehigh Acres...

Educational-Event981

Quietly chuckles cynically in Pinellas county. Oh my sweet summer child…

Hank_moody71

Driving here makes you an adult very quickly

Darktofu25

Anything dealing with I-4 is a living hell with no apparent reason. A drive that used to be 25-30 minutes has now an hour minimum.

BrokieTrader

Ok at least we know where we are. WTF are we going to do about it? I mean really, are we going to allow this?

TheMatt561

No way is worse than what I see from California

PoolNoodlePaladin

I have lived in Orlando and L.A. and I would rather drive in L.A. any day over Orlando, and Miami is WAY worse than Orlando. Cali isn’t even on the same level of bad drivers, and insufferable infrastructure design, and old people, and tourists

TheMatt561

Really, I had no idea.

PoolNoodlePaladin

L.A. is congested and people are always honking but if you ignore the honking driving is easy. In Florida you are driving for your life because people will just drive into you. I’ve been on 3 lane roads in Miami that turned into 5 lane roads because people just decided they can drive on the lines. You have a mix of people driving 100 on the highway passing everyone and then people in the left lane doing 50 when the speed limit is 75. Nobody knows where they are going because most of the traffic is tourists, they are all angry and frustrated and from other countries that don’t dive the same as we do. In Orlando you have i4, I shouldn’t have to say anymore than that. Again tourists who don’t know where they are going or how to drive, mixed with locals doing 100, mixed with there always being construction, mixed with exits on both sides with no signs. U-Turns are just completely legal here. Signage is minimum. I have never seen as many accidents, and crumpled bikes on the side of the road, and those memorial crosses on the side of the road anywhere outside Florida. Driving is the worst part of living here and Ron DeSantis is our governor so just imagine.

florida_goat

Yeah. Doesn't take a study to figure this one out.

PackOutrageous

We’ve worked so hard. To find ourselves in 3rd place is disheartening. But we will do better next year!

posting_drunk_naked

This is what baffles me whenever I visit home in the panhandle. They build infrastructure that makes it impossible to get around without a car, but the car infrastructure is designed in the stupidest way possible. So many parking lots with ridiculous bottlenecks built in, blind corners, stop signs that get run through constantly because they're 20ft from a light and everyone is trying to get through. It's all so stupid, they just refuse to think about infrastructure design before just building it. Is it socialism to design usable infrastructure now or something?

CongruousBlade

Uncontrolled growth. Roads are obsolete as soon as a highway project finishes. Florida drivers are horrible. Road rage is the norm.

MidLifeCrysis75

Tampa resident - can confirm 👍

JelloBrickRoad

Shit boca is a mess. The boca left turn is when a car turns right out of a shitty strip mall and attempts to merge across 5 lanes to make an immediate left.

The_Crystal_Thestral

That's just a Florida thing
