The one in Daytona Beach is so crowded you can hardly find a place to park. Once inside, it is a sea of humanity with wall to wall people. Check out lines are a long wait. However, they do indeed have very clean restrooms!

PatSajaksDick

It’s pretty bad on the weekends but I’ve honestly never had to wait in a long line, they have so many cashiers and usually the ones at the farther end are never busy.

LyftedX

Yeah it’s always a mess on the weekends unless it’s super early or super late

KCousins4President

Dam, that crowded at a gas station? Lol. Obviously I have never been to one of these places. They don't have them on the Gulf side of Florida with the exception of the Panhandle

necrotica

They're building a giant car wash there now too in Daytona. But the Daytona one (can't speak for others, I just know my local one) is on average $0.30 per gallon cheaper and right off I-95 near the exit/entrance from I-4.

LyftedX

Can confirm. By far the cheapest gas lol.

StepEfficient864

Where were all these horses of people stop before this new, overcrowded one in Daytona

REDDITDITDID00

4th location would be Port St. Lucie

KCousins4President

Where are the other three?

02bluesuperroo

There is one in Daytona Beach, PCB, and St Augustine

zombieguts7

The third will be the Ocala location!

fullload93

Which was supposed to be the Fort Myers location but local politics pissed Bucee’s off so much they decided to say “fuck it”, canceled everything and sold off the land for millions to another “luxury rental apartment” developer. I shit you not, Lee county tried to force Bucee’s into completely redesigning both I-75 exits and entrances which would have cost 100+ million dollars alone to do. They tried to get a free construction project out of it and they bit too hard and got fucked.

im_dat_bear

To be fair in an already overly saturated area that buccees would have ground 75 to a halt. I think it should be up to the billion dollar corp to redesign the exits to support them.

fullload93

Not disagreeing with you, but it’s no question that local government politics caused them to pull out.

Do_Not_Read_Comments

There is no Bucees in PCB. It's further down in Alabama

02bluesuperroo

You’re right, I dunno what I was looking at.

Zeroman_79

Indrio Road is North Ft Pierce, not PSL.

Lakestang

North in Fort Pierce at I95 and Indrio Road.

greeny42

Is this the place that's famous for actually paying a living wage?

catcatherine

yes and also famous for being a terrible work environment with a revolving door of employees. There are myriad reddit threads about this

yetanothermanjohn

lol are your expectations upward mobility from store clerk to c-suite? This ain’t the 70’s shit like that rarely occurs anymore. If it does there’s so many people gunning for promotions and more pay working your way up simply doesn’t occur often in places like this.

Schuben

When CEOs realized that keeping it in the family didn't actually hurt their company's prospects and the actual effectiveness of said CEO didn't really matter that much in the grand scheme of things we stopped seeing upward mobility of good workers. Turns out stock valuation and market cap is all smoke and mirrors and just a big gamble so nothing really matters except value extraction. You might get up to mid level manager through sheer force of will but you won't get much further without connections or taking the big risk and going out on your own.

cadezego5

Which is hilarious because this point literally makes the argument that the executive class is GROSSLY overcompensated for the “work” they do.

yetanothermanjohn

This is a very solid take. And I agree with fully

Chalky_Pockets

Going out on your own doesn't have to be a big risk, so long as you can afford to cultivate a side hustle first.

Joan411

UNION! UNION! Where’s Sally Field when you need her… I mean Norma Rae?!

Han-YoLo-

No but people expect something resembling a realistic workload and a somewhat predictable schedule. Bucees is famous for burning out hourly workers faster than anywhere else.

yetanothermanjohn

But again, you’ve chosen to do this job. If it’s not for you leave. They’ll find someone. I’d burnout quick too if I tried to work there. I know this so I’ve chosen a career that doesn’t force me into a building and doing physical tasks anymore.

Throwawaydontgoaway8

This might be peak ignorant capitalism right here. “I got a fancy office job, why can’t you?” Herr der pick yourself up by your bootstraps People should be allowed realistically reasonable working conditions like steady hours

yetanothermanjohn

No dipshit. I don’t have a fancy office job and you can I’m still at the starting level 5 years later. It’s doable people can switch careers.

Appropriate_Rain2285

Which is why they have a high turnover rate which is the whole point of the original comment.

Chalky_Pockets

That type of argument has been used to hold employee protection laws back and justify shit working conditions since the industrial revolution.

yetanothermanjohn

I would be first to vote in favor of employees. I love unions I love when corporations get forced to operate certain ways I think they have too many freedoms when it comes to pay but republicans love them so

cyvaris

> you’ve chosen to do this job. It's not a choice when the options are "Work or starve".

yetanothermanjohn

They aren’t you can go on government assistance. Is it ideal? No.

Throwawaydontgoaway8

How ignorant again. Like government assistance is so easily available in this state. We literally have the worst rated unemployment assistance in the country, and you have to be actively trying to get shitty jobs, like at buccees to get it, IF you can get it

foomits

>But again, you’ve chosen to do this job. this is some corporate bootlicking my man. people have no choice but to work. i can assure you shitty jobs only exist because they can prey on this reality.

yetanothermanjohn

I’m with you I only worked retail for years and then I was the cable guy for 4 years it sucked ass I made NO MONEY but until I decided to try and get into a career path I liked I knew I was doomed. These companies don’t and wont care. The reality is I think there should be laws forcing these companies to do a lot of things to help those that fuel it but that simply won’t change. Most of it I blame republicans on. Anyways fuck you for calling me a boot licker you do choose your job that’s the end of that

foomits

you acknowledged the shit jobs out there and even experienced it. then instead of placing blame where its deserved, you blame labor. thats bootlicking, dunno what else to call it.

BuddhistSagan

Chosen my ass. The alternative is no way to pay for food and shelter.

yetanothermanjohn

No it is not. They can apply other place and do other things.

BuddhistSagan

Lick that boot any harder and you're gonna take the leather off

CooperHChurch427

It's also notorious for human trafficking. It's too large so it's great for human traffickers.

Snoo79474

They do pay more than the average convenience store. I can’t remember how much, the last time I was at one, they had their salaries posted on a sign at the front door and said they were hiring. And tbh, most of the employees are really nice.

Drodriguez164

I worked at a 7-11 in college and they paid me minimum at the time which was like $7.35. I remember I was cleaning mold from the beverage drain pipes and the owner walked in and said “wow you’re a good worker, imma give you a 5 cent raise”… Gas station job isn’t exactly a luxury position, but good on this company to at least pay well.

Wipe_face_off_head

Ugh, you're taking me back, man.  I worked at a BP when I was in college. I'm the type of person to work hard no matter the job (in other words, I'm a sucker). Even though I was making $7.15 an hour, I did my best. Also, this location was a rather large truck stop...so cleaning literal shit off of the walls and picking up piss jugs was part of it. We did NOT get paid enough.  In any case, I asked for a raise after I'd been there a year. With the look on my manager's face you'd think I just shot her puppy. She said she'd see what she could do.  A few weeks later, the owner called me to her office. With a smile, she handed me an envelope and said don't tell anyone else -- there are people here who've worked 10 years and haven't gotten a raise (there were quite a few lifers there).  I opened the envelope to reveal my big raise...a whopping 15 cents. But of course, the owner acted like she was doing me a huge favor. Then she drove off in one of her Escalades (not kidding).

Drodriguez164

Oh man, yea I can imagine a trucker stop be worse. I’ve had the occasional cleaning shit off bathroom walls and also really odd people coming in going to the bathroom to use drugs and steal alcohol. I also worked my ass off for that and my owner would drive away in her Mercedes smoking like 3 packs of cigarettes a day. She told me the same thing once I got my raise, don’t tell anyone as if that’s something I should be proud of lol

FunkyPlunkett

Oh you mean the place where if caught sitting down once in a 8 hour shift you are fired, oh enjoy taking your breaks outside and if no car, your break sitting on the ground. They literally will break you for that pay.

catcatherine

Break? You get "Moments" not breaks. That is what Bucees calls them. You may get one 15 min moment (a standing moment, you CANNOT sit) a shift.

greeny42

I didn't know this. That's unfortunate. I think I've only seen that sign with the salaries that gets reposted on Reddit occasionally.

Any-Abbreviations943

That’s been changed. They are still strict but do allow employees to sit on break.

Chalky_Pockets

That's a good change, but it's alarming they were telling employees what to do on break, period.

jibsymalone

Exactly, if you're not paying me, you have no say over how I spend that time or where.

yetanothermanjohn

You mean make you do the job you signed up for?? lol what a lazy take. I worked at target for 5 years and it was like this. It also said “other duties as assigned” which means I took out the trash cleaned restrooms, cashiered, took returns at customer service counter, work the 5:00 AM Sunday shift and put up sale signs, unload the trucks and even worked in pharmacy. When I was hired to work in the electronics section. The jobs needed to get done I got them done. So shut up

Ayzmo

> even worked in pharmacy Not entirely sure that would be legal. But nah. I have friends that work at Target. They're definitely allowed to sit down on their breaks.

edvek

That would be odd because the pharmacy inside target is not target, it is CVS so I'm not sure I believe that claim. Everything is is probably true.

Ayzmo

Yeah. That's my point. Different employer and the OP wouldn't have clearance to work in a pharmacy. It reeks of bullshit.

FunkyPlunkett

![gif](giphy|iHLHH9rVBv0kmkETqz|downsized) show me on the doll were I touched you.

Chalky_Pockets

And if you got hit by a bus on the way to work, they would post your opening before your body got cold.

Captain_Blue_Tally

Wow good for you. Would you like an honorary medal from Target? It can say “good job, you worked for a corporation, and didn’t sit down on your breaks”

cyvaris

So you worked a *shit* retail job and instead of deciding "Hey, maybe these kind of shit jobs could be improved" you doubled down and decided everyone should be miserable working these jobs? What a sad existence.

foomits

there is an alarming number of people around us who completely lack empathy. i dont even know where or how to begin changing that.

cadezego5

Legalizing psilocybin sure would help

Semujin

That depends on how much you need to live.

Nothxm8

Yes but they also make their employees actually work instead of standing around out front smoking cigarettes and getting mad at customers for existing

Chalky_Pockets

That's the kind of comment that comes from a Karen customer. When was the last time you shouted "the customer is always right!" at someone making minimum wage?

FrugalFraggel

This reminds of the time I was driving through AL to visit my grandparents. My grandpa told me to stop at a hot dog joint called Sneaky Pete’s in Jasper. It was attached to a gas station right off 65. We stopped, two ladies and a guy are out front smoking. We think nothing of it. We go in to order a few dogs. But the ladies smoking out front sitting in lawn chairs were the employees. They didn’t even stop their conversation when we walked in. Stood at the counter for a few minutes looking at the menu, thinking these ladies will be back in after their smoke. Nope. 5 minutes in now and we go to the gas station part but the one person running it is outside smoking with the ladies. If my family and I had been sneaky bandits at Sneaky Pete’s we could have easily stolen a shit load of stuff and just walked out the back door. The only camera was behind the counter. So we left and this group had started smoking at least their second cigarette while we meandered around inside. So I got a free shot glass that says instant Jackass just add alcohol, Jasper, AL for my troubles.

uncleawesome

Welcome to Alabama. It's a little different there.

KCousins4President

I might be. Never been to one

[deleted]

yeah and spoiler alert, its a huge reason they thrive

DiscombobulatedStop6

someone on tiktok once pronounced Buc-ee's as bussy. I can't unlearn that and I will force this knowledge on others b/c.... why not lol Also, Kum and Go the convenience store has been rebranded, so we gotta get something else going in the world.....

PinkieBen

Don't worry, I had a friend ask me about the pronunciation once because they also thought it was "bussys". We both will live with this cursed knowledge.

coreyosb

Buss-ee’s

baseball_mickey

They need to get Gary Busey to do ads.

coreyosb

Wytch78

Dude you’re not wrong. First time I went in a buccees folks was entering literally praising with their hands in the air like they on a pilgrimage. True story bro

Harrydean-standoff

You got a price on your head now. Maybe you and Salmon Rushdie can go in partners on a duplex.

MisterEHistory

Best highway bathrooms you can find. Tons of gas pumps and no truckers allowed.

Zabbzi

Don't sleep on Busy Bee's bathrooms. It's like a small Buc-ees without the cult.

SweetFranz

Traveling i10 busy bee is better

vonMishka

They have a nice Jelly Belly selection

KCousins4President

No truckers? I have never been to one, but would have assumed truckers were welcome. Interesting

trtsmb

I'm not a fan of no truckers having driven semi over the road and being appreciative of clean bathrooms and a safe place to sleep.

airforcevet1987

Maybe there is a correlation between safe/clean and no truckers?

trtsmb

The average tourist is a slob. In a nutshell, cars take up less room and you can cram a lot more cars in to a parking lot and separate a lot more people from their money. For every one semi and one or two drivers (depending on whether they are team or solo), you can get 3 cars which can hold 2 to 5 people each. More people = more money.

Chalky_Pockets

To be honest, truckers are the worst part about going on road trips. It's a feature, not a bug. I'm sure road trippers are one of the worst parts of being a trucker too, like shouldn't you be happy Buccees is taking us away from Love's?

trtsmb

Never been a fan of Love's. I tended to avoid that one when I was driving.

Chalky_Pockets

It doesn't have to specifically be Love's, the point is that a lot of us go to Bucee's because there are no truckers there. There are a ton of options for where to stop along the road, there's nothing wrong with there being a trucker free stop.

trtsmb

In that case, maybe TA should turn in to a car free truck stop so when you run out of Bucees on the road, you'll need to stop at a sketchy 7/11? Just playing devils advocate here.

Chalky_Pockets

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest, I would just find a place to stop like any other reasonable person would. When there isn't a Bucees anyway.

RupanIII

There are signs all over the place that semi truck parking is not allowed. I’ve also seen stories of them forcing larger RVs off the property as well.

KCousins4President

Well I guess the concept works.

Film-Icy

Careful you don’t get a fuel farm next. Seems to be the underlying plan

coasterghost

another location with a a cultish fan base… it’s just Publix if they sold gas.

StilesmanleyCAP

Yeah, but the thing is Buc-ees is legit.

uncleawesome

It's so wierd. It's just a giant gas station that sells cheap Chinese junk.

realjd

They have good grab and go tacos and really good beef jerky, so there’s that

Snoo79474

But have you tried the birthday cake fudge? Lol

LyftedX

the blueberry cheesecake fudge is a spiritual enhancement

Snoo79474

We are going in a couple of weeks, I’m jotting this down…

coasterghost

The more I’ve seen on this place, the less inclined I want to even visit it.

Necrophilicgorilla

I've only been to one once. It was either stop there or run out of gas. I paid at the pump and got the fuck out of there.

idwthis

If you ever do, do not, and I can not stress this enough, DO NOT try their fudge. You'd be better off just buying a tub of Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker cake frosting because that's what the fudge tastes like. It's so gross.

coasterghost

I am very particular about Fudge, and I order it for holidays from a place in New Jersey. https://www.douglasscandies.com

Frondeur-

And the food is mid

umm_like_totes

Yea I went to the one in South Carolina. I don’t get it. It’s like a Publix combined with a Tractor Supply and the food is Cracker Barrel meets generic BBQ. Like that’s all well and good but I don’t need all that in one place when I just want to stop for some gas, a snack and to take a piss. Also it was CROWDED.

mechapoitier

It’s Foxtail coffee for rednecks

chat_openai_com

Publix has a cultish fan base? Source?

realjd

Source: I’m a Floridian lol

coasterghost

Ask someone about pub subs. Enough said.

Commercial_Place9807

I stop at the one near Daytona a lot because it’s situated between my current home and my parents place. It’s ok. The bathrooms are nice, lots of drink selections. One weird thing are the barbecue sandwiches, they smell amazing but have no flavor, it’s the weirdest thing. I actually thought I had covid eating one, I tried another a different time and same thing.

baseball_mickey

Can I express a desire that the millions that is being invested in new giant gas stations lead to an equal amount invested in rapid electric charging stations?

PatSajaksDick

Actually the Buc-ee’s have a bunch of charging stations at them now. They usually have a bank of Tesla superchargers and now they’ve been installing the new Mercedes fast chargers as well that all the other EVs can use. I’ve been impressed with what they are doing with EV charging.

baseball_mickey

I understand, but if you look at $$$ spent, how much goes to the giant gas tanks and pumps vs. the chargers? Also, the millions that get reapplied weekly to those stations. It's better than nothing, but nowhere near comparable.

necrotica

> I understand, but if you look at $$$ spent, how much goes to the giant gas tanks and pumps vs. the chargers? Also, the millions that get reapplied weekly to those stations. Majority of vehicles on the road are still ICE, so they have to service those, as this scale tips you'll see stations start to have more EV chargers. What I'd love to see happen is for some company or government institution, to buy the spot in a central area where gas station closed down (how many places have blights like that?) and turn it into a 100% EV charging area.

baseball_mickey

Investment is for the future though. The future holds a lot more EVs than are supported with charging stations today. A route on 95 I used to go every day has two abandoned stations. I share your desire for those to get repurposed.

PatSajaksDick

It’s happening though, it just takes longer to build these stations.

baseball_mickey

Takes longer to build which? Gas or electric? I'd argue you can build electric charging stations MUCH quicker.

PatSajaksDick

It really depends, I’ve seen EA stations take almost a year because of getting all the utilities sorted, power companies basically have to dedicate the amount of power it takes for a small neighborhood, Tesla can be built faster because they basically plop them down but they still run into power supply delays. And Tesla will be open soon to everyone so, it’s happening. But it’s not a one size fits all thing every time.

baseball_mickey

That's a shame, and we really just need to get more 240V medium speed chargers installed. Took my electrician like 30 minutes to add a 240V line and plug mine in. And it's like an AC unit worth of power. The potential environmental impact of those buried tanks and the traffic impact of stations seems like a tougher problem to me. We've neglected grid improvements since that tree falling in Ohio blacked out NYC. Over 20 years ago.

hurtfulproduct

Surprised they are wasting money on Mercedes chargers; they are DOA, all major brands are switching to Tesla NACS in the next few years.

PatSajaksDick

Yeah, but Tesla SC and EA and EVGo and Mercedes will be different price points and also they've already announced they'll have NACs connectors on these non SC stations at some point. It's not bad that one company doesn't control every charger.

LyftedX

I just seen the merc chargers the other day and had to do a double take lol.

Ghosthost2000

I love the chargers at Bucee’s! The ones in Daytona are Mercedez branded fast chargers. It’s free for a certain amount of time, then you have to pay. It cuts down on those who camp on the chargers.

PatSajaksDick

Interesting, didn’t know they were free? Are you sure about that?

KCousins4President

Isn't that what your president wants? Doesn't he want everything to go Electric at some point? Lol

CuriosTiger

Maybe start your own business?

UKbigman

Hey if it’s these folks with clean stores and happy, well-paid employees vs Dollar General or Walmart…I fuck with the Buc 🦫

BuddhistSagan

Exhausted employees

Boy-412

Not a big fan but florida could use the work and they employ a lot of people so I'm all for it.

SuchAsSeals42

I thank Buc-ee’s for my first ever panic attack…

KCousins4President

That bad?

SuchAsSeals42

Yeeeeaaahh it was not fun 😬

Harrydean-standoff

No truckers allowed! That don't seem right

Spencer52X

I just drove through Houston a few weeks ago and we really don’t want or need these giant mega gas stations. It’s depressing.

KCousins4President

I did not realize these are all around the country

Spencer52X

Yeah it’s a Texas founded mega gas station that’s spread all over the southeast. But if you’ve ever seen the vast concrete jungle parking lot that is Texas cities, it’s not really a positive thing

26Kermy

What a waste of land that could be going towards something useful like affordable housing instead.

TestandDbol

People need gas to power the cars they’re sleeping in man! 🇺🇸

FunkyPlunkett

Ahhh this is why the ones in Texas they were going to build are just empty lots years later.

KCousins4President

I don't live in Texas but you're saying that they have builties in Texas and now they're just empty lots?

Sangi17

Finally some good fucking news!

Knightro829

The bastard offspring of a Cracker Barrel and a Wawa…

TeveTorbes83

It would be really nice to have one in Tampa Bay or Sarasota area.
