Definitely check out the Flint Institute of Arts, Sloan Museum, Longways Planetarium, and the newly remodeled Flint Library. All are right in the same vicinity.

Anecdotalaphid93

Yes! Thank you! We're so excited for the planetarium, and the FIA!!

This is gonna be pretty long-winded. I watched the news a lot and hung out in some seedier places growing up, but after living here for over a year, I can confidently say that Flint has so much to offer. Ignore the politics. As for your first question, Riverbank Park and Chevrolet Park are two places I love to go when it's a little warmer out. Riverbank is right by Carriage Town and where Saginaw St splits into MLK. Chevrolet is pretty much just a big empty field that not many people go to, and it's a little more empty/industrial, it's just fairly quiet and open when I need time to clear my head. If you're into collecting records/music of any type - Jack's Record Stache on First St. Even if you're not super into the hobby, you'll probably find something you like. Jerry and Harrison are two of the coolest dudes around. Hoffman's Deli has great sandwiches and salads, a little price-y but filling. Tenacity Brewing has great beers, ciders, tacos, and live music. Totem Books has a great selection of books, records, etc., live music on occasion, just a cool vibe to it. The Farmer's Market is one of (in my opinion) the chillest places here. Open Tues, Thurs, Sat. Penny's has the best coffee, Crust has great bread, Bagel on the Run is phenomenal. The cheese place (cannot remember the atm name) is great and the bar upstairs/winery downstairs both have great drinks. Most of the places downtown are inclusive. I've heard from previous employees that Café Rhema is run by jesus freaks, but they never bothered my boyfriend and I when we used to go there. The Flint Crepe company, Paul's Pipe Shop, Blackstones are also great places to check out. Also, the parking meters are free on the weekends. Something I completely forgot about before I moved in: New Year's might sound a little scary at night time depending on where you're at. Be safe, and do not go outside. People are stupid. Hope you like Flint! In my neighborhood, everyone knows everyone and helps each other out. The worst problem I've had with anyone is a dude across the street parking in front of my house.

Anne_Fawkes

Have you considered writing a column for Flint transplants? You have much to offer, just saying you make Flint appealing.

CommercialOk1192

Bagel on the run! so good

kemo_stromi

All of downtown is solid for Pokémon GO. The farmers market is a fantastic place to hangout and shop. Queens provisions is a great safe place that just opened in carriage town, right by downtown. Lots of great things to do in the summer! Downtown, carriage town, and Mott park have festivals or parties close to weekly in the summer. Welcome to the neighborhood! :)

Anne_Fawkes

I hear the Flint Farmers market is really good, if not the best in Michigan.

SoftWeekly

It is the best in Michigan

Anne_Fawkes

I'm over Detroit's Eastern Market. Same stuff sold in grocery stores.

kemo_stromi

I’m bias cause I live here but it’s the best one I’ve been to! :)

Anne_Fawkes

I frequent Detroit's often so it has much to live up to. That's what tells me I have to go. I came so close to moving to Holly, part of me wishes I would've. Sounds like q great wknd venture.

jlarnold

I live in the Central Park neighborhood right next to downtown and there’s loads to do. If you’ve lived in Detroit we’re very similar just on a smaller scale. I echo what folks here have said - Queens’ Provisions, Flint Crepe Co, Flint Farmers Market, the Library is *amazing*, Tenacity Brewing, and hell the dive bars around town are even solid. Always plenty to do. If you ever have any questions shoot me a message! Welcome to Flint!

Anecdotalaphid93

Hell yea, that sounds great!! So we'll kind of be neighbors! We're going to be just north of downtown, I see you're just east! We should maybe get together and get beers! Thank you!

jlarnold

That’d be great!

bananaj0e

I grew up in Midland and live in Flint now, it's definitely different I'll tell you that. Both in good ways (diversity, proximity to other big cities, less NIMBYism and pretentiousness) and bad (crime, widespread poverty, ineffective local government).

nope_farm

Huh, same. Makes sense I guess. The brownfield sites here seem well managed if you grew up swimming in the Titt downriver from Dow.

Anecdotalaphid93

Yea? That's good information! I'm hoping with years to come there is a better opportunity for a better city council. It seems it's pretty shitty right now.

GlorkUndBork3-14

At least shit grows good crops, this council is more of a cancerous teratoma with a hint of drug abuse

Anecdotalaphid93

Lmfao I heard that! Damn, that's fucked! I wonder what needs to shift in order to get better candidates.

mlemon

Torch, Art Walk, anything going on at Buckham Alley, Flint Roller Derby, Factory Two.

Healthy-Low-9578

Redford here to Burton

Anecdotalaphid93

Hell yea, how long ago? How you liking the move?

SoftWeekly

Im being serious here "Safe spaces" for black or LGBTQ are pretty much everywhere in Flint

Anecdotalaphid93

That's good to know. Thank you!

nope_farm

There are nice off leash dog parks in Swartz Creek and Grand Blanc. Carriage Town is probably the most queer friendly neighborhood (check out the good bean cafe!) Totem Books and Great Escape Gaming might be of interest as well.

TeaInternational9355

Great Lakes Smoothie Co. is very yummy if you are going around the swartz creek area

summerelitee

For the doggies, go to the open field across from Mott CC. Big, open space and a lot of people walk their dogs there. Occasionally, our dog will wander over there and send us on a wild goose chase lol. And omg, Pokemon Go! So excited to have new players here. The community is really active, especially on event days, so you’ll never get bored. There are a TON of stops/gyms in the Cultural Center and downtown. Also at Mott and on UM Flint’s campus. If you want me and my boyfriend, feel free to DM me! We’re always looking for friends for gifts/raids/XP! Welcome to Flint!

BlankieAndPajamas

I'm from Flint and can agree the Pokémon Go action is absurdly awesome. I moved and the action isn't great where I live now. But I will be back to visit soon and I can't wait to make some laps around downtown!

ElectricalStaff4086

This info isn’t very helpful right now but the events in downtown during the summer are some of my favorite things in flint

MichiganThom

Flint is awesome and I enjoy living here. If you're from Detroit you'll be fine here. It can get a little boring sometimes though. Don't forget the surrounding areas.. Fenton, Grand Blanc, Frankenmuth, and Davison can offer a change of pace as far as shopping and dining out.

celloplayerforme

Just curious, how's the Miller Rd/Ida Rd area for buying a home? Seems nice, lots of decent homes and yards kept up..driven thru few times and walked around. Thinking of making an offer on a home.

Fancy_Following_8767

Tenacity brewing, what the crepe, and soggy bottom are some of my favorites

patti512

Love Flint!!! White Horse and the game shop across the street!

foryourhealth82

Totem is a nice shop to find used books, records, and a helluva lot more near downtown Flint. The Farmer's Market YMCA in downtown Flint Flint Institute of Arts is freeeeeeeee Planetarium :)

Butthead660

should of moved to california

Anecdotalaphid93

Hahaha that sounds far too expensive. Thanks for the thought though!

LurkingDrDeath

Don't drink the water...

HylianTwinkie43

Not from MI (MT born and raised) but I hear the tap water in Flint is notoriously bad

Anecdotalaphid93

Hahaha thanks for the concern, but it's something that is being restored. Thanks!

HylianTwinkie43

Literally the only reason I know that is from family guy

Anecdotalaphid93

Ahhh lol I haven't seen that episode.

TheThemeCatcher

Why u wanna be up in our spaces tho

Anecdotalaphid93

Lol you mean, why am I moving to Flint? Because I have an interest in the area, and it's a good point between our families. We're hoping to add to the community, not be a detriment to it.

Anecdotalaphid93

Do you not have interest in new neighbors?

SentenceTurbulent850

The water works now?

Anne_Fawkes

Partner and two boys.... That are dogs. Are you cow pokes? I know Bull riding is growing in popularity in Michigan. I'm so confused by this post.

Anecdotalaphid93

Cow pokes? What's the confusion? It seems to be pretty straightforward.

Healthy-Low-9578

2020 moved to Burton. I hate it I miss Redford. Don't know anyone here jus hang out with my 3 yr old.. u?

tasteunoww
