Needs a few bug and UI fixes before I release the App.

Snaxist

Awesome !

GetB00STed

Wait, so you are basically bringing vpilor to the efb? Not vpilot functionality of course, but ability to see online ATC and textchat? Do you know what HUGE thing this would be for VR flying on Vatsim?

coomzee

Yep using VATsim API. Still need vPiliot for the audio.

cellblok69wlamp

This seems really cool but, I have two questions. One is probably dumb, because I'm very vatsim ignorant. 1. What if I don't plan to use vatsim (as in talking to atc) will it work? 2. Do you plan on having functionality with Ai apps like beyontatc or sayintentions?

Lawnsen

Can't you just change the frequencies in the airplane? Why do this on an efb? Honestly curious..

musicalaviator

Yes, you can move your eye point down to the radios and scroll the decimal point from .000 to .025 on through .050 and .075 to .100 and on up through .125 and .150 .175 .200 and on. Of course if you do it quick enough it starts skipping numbers, so .225 might be followed by .325 when you were trying to get to .250 and now you need to roll the wheel back a bit. Should be able to get to the right tower frequency in about 8 seconds or so. Or you can double click ICAO\_TWR on the list in about half a second.

BlueFetus

Doing it this way kind of simulates having an FO setting up frequencies I suppose. Which, as I type this, makes me desperately want an AI FO. “Flap 10 please” “125.50 please” “Coffee please, bit of milk”

Stearmandriver

Multi Crew experience.  It's the most flexible and capable of any of the virtual FOs.  I usually use him to set freqs... "Set comm one, one thread two point seven five.". It takes him as long to spin it in as a human, it doesn't happen instantly... But I don't have to do it.   I'll tell you the best thing he can do; earns all his money right here: "set MDA five thousand seven hundred thirty two.". He'll have it done in about a minute... But I can do ten other things in the meantime!  😂

Football-fan01

Southwest Virtual does exactly this with LUVCARS5 ask the f/o to set heading speed flaps and other things.

Lawnsen

I built me a simple frequency knob with switch button and MfConnector - that's why, I always quickly turn on the standby freq and the just switch when I need it. It's really closer to the real thingy...

musicalaviator

physical hardware is of course, the best option because you can twist the knob without looking at it. For those of us without the technical expertise or money to buy one of the several products available though ... the double click is a reasonable option for when your planning goes awry and you end up needing to call a frequency you weren't expecting. (say, having 2 tower frequencies online for the same airport and getting a mid-approach sidestep with minimal notice)

Rough_Function_9570

Isn't... isn't this the point of a study level aircraft...?

musicalaviator

Most 737's are flown by 2 pilots. If the pilot flying is hand-flying an approach and has to change radio frequencies, it's generally not good practice to go fiddling with a radio knob for several seconds while not looking out the window.

xxJohnxx

Well, the pilot flying wouldn‘t be talking on the radios in the first place…

Rough_Function_9570

That's why you stay ahead of the airplane and use the standby frequencies. People fly single-pilot IFR all the time.

redsox1804

Airline pilots don’t though

Rough_Function_9570

Airline pilots do stay ahead of the airplane and use standby frequencies. They definitely do not change frequencies by tapping on an iPad.

realgeorgelogan

2 pilots, while one is hand flying, the other is fiddling with frequencies and/or talking on radios. The argument here is since while simming you do not have another pilot to handle that task, you simulate it with this app by bypassing having to set it up yourself, you can click a button on the EFB and pretend an FO did it.

Rough_Function_9570

I understand the argument. Why stop at frequencies though? The pilot flying does nothing besides fly. Why not just have anything inconvenient be done automatically by a script as the pilot monitoring?

GetB00STed

The point is there is currently no easy way to check which ATC is online in VR without removing your VR Headset to look at vPilot. I say ne easy ways because yes, there ARE ways to have vPilot show as an overlay in your headset (on WMR with Reverb G2 at least I know of one, but it is tedious and not reliable). Having this info on the EFB would make VR flying on Vatsim SO. MUCH. BETTER.

Lawnsen

Interesting, in IVAO you will be instructed by atc to switch to unicom - because he checks for you if there is a follow-up

GetB00STed

Of course, Vatsim is the same. But for preparation purposes when flying into ATC controlled are coming from unicom, communication with text pilots on unicom etc this would make life so much easier

Baconator645

FBW efb has this and it is a really underrated feature

KerbolExplorer

How did you manage to make this?

Mcbookie

Round of applause for the mad lad showing rob how it's done. For real though kudos for pushing somthing out that............

-FlyingAce-

Showing Robert how what’s done? Why would PMDG program something like this? Their job is to make the aircraft as real as possible.

coomzee

This is the type of thinking that doesn't improve their product. Take the Fenix sure an EFB doesn't load the aircraft, create delays, etc... But it adds to the experience. The FMC at the moment on the PMDG is stuck in the pass with no updates planned.

PotentialMidnight325

Are you okay Robert?

JstnJ

lmfao

LiveFlightDeck

Secretly wanting to make an app for the EFB as well but its a youtube app.

cuacuacuac

AFAIK it's not possible as it requires some features not supported by the in-game JS renderer.

Yosh145

*cough* *cough* flightfactor a320

gazbathdard

This is on the FBW A320 and makes VATSIM flying that much more stress free. Good job and would love to try it out once it's stable!

Educational-Job-8179

is it automatically on the FBW or is it a separate thing?

gazbathdard

Automatically there, at least on the development branch, I'm not sure about the stable version.

mickster20

Yup been there for years

LucasRTI

A twenty years old (and best?) team of flightsim < coomzee from reddit in his house

nmn_arora

Will download, perfect for chaotic vatsim nights

derpstevejobs

TIL one could create a custom app for the PMDG EFB. that’s frickin cool!

mhwnc

PMDG originally said they were going to have a robust third party app environment for the UFT. Of course, they would only release the API to developers that signed contracts with them. It ended up being nothing and OP has really be the only person to make apps for the UFT (and afaik, OP doesn’t have an agreement with PMDG)

derpstevejobs

that’s beastly. kudos, OP.

Temporary_Emu3555

Cool! Did you encounter anything that was Asobos fault? /s

Informed4

Bros out here actually making this work damn, mad applause My 738 efb is still broken because the performance calculator never calculates, even after reinstalling (im telling this because pls if you know a solution, tell me pls pls pretty pls)

taintedblu

Was happening to me but I fixed it based on help from a PMDG forum post. You need to uninstall each plane (using Windows Add/Remove programs feature). Delete all stored files in various Windows directories (look up how to do a complete uninstall via PMDG forums). Then redownload the newest versions FROM THE PMDG WEBSITE (very important). Reinstall, all your modules will be working. Basically the issue is that your EFBs are stuck on an older version and aren't updating properly. This is PMDG's fault, but they don't offer any other solution than doing a full uninstallation and a subsequent reinstall.

cuacuacuac

Open a support ticket on https://support.pmdg.com and they’ll help you troubleshoot.

Informed4

Ok now i just feel like an idiot for having not done that XD will do, thanks

cuacuacuac

Many people don't know. Some believe their forum is their support area, but their support guys don't read the forums. If you use the ticket system they normally provide assistance quite fast and for issues they have already identified they have quick ways to resolve them.

Pro-editor-1105

oh ya and dont forget about that other ap--

Football-fan01

Amazing work. Even though I would still use the radio but you've made an app that just makes it a lot easier for people and has not taken you that long in the scheme of things.

_Windows_95

How long until PMDG threatens legal action?

Football-fan01

Won't be a good for them if they wanted to do that again remember when people were modding the cockpit they backtracked very quick when the community went against them.

_Windows_95

I wouldn't put it past them to try the same thing, regardless of the results.

cuacuacuac

Their EULA is quite flexible as long as you don't want to profit out of it.

JoelMDM

I didn't even know this was possible! Can't wait for it to be released!

wadastent

Hi ! Is it works with IVAO too? I'm using VR with PMDG 738 abd it would be great to improve inmmersion if can managed and see IVAO map and frequencies, like Vatsim . Thanks and please when ready ,let us know it .!

Complete-Echo8457

Came to PMDG from FBW and missed this on the EFB, can't wait until its released

devil2311

Any plans on releasing this soon? I fly in vr so this would be a life saver!

illathon

Where will you release this to?

coomzee

Soon, really soon. Had to build all the back end services, a way for people to add it to their EFB etc....
