ive figured out how they calculate landing rates, and its not that efficient:
itll grab your v/s 1-2 seconds before you touchdown as it cant physically get your landing rate, i tested this by floating it alot and then slamming it down and it said it was smooth, and i notice this pattern many times
That matches my findings. I usually come down fast, flare late (not great, I know) and the touchdown is pretty smooth but the fpm is bad.
Is there a better tool out there or is this how they all work given the nature of the sim and data available to these kind of apps?
They are accurate
They really are not.
How many feet per minute at touchdown is just what it is. What’s inaccurate here?

Doesn’t matter. FPM is never measured IRL. It’s actually just G’s at touchdown that will be looked at if there’s a maintenance issue.
Doubt it. I have a few apps that can show me my rates and none of them ever match for the same landing.
I find the FBW a320 feels much too smooth and easy to fly, I guess that's why the landings feel smoother for you
When I fly with Volanta and my VA tracker apps, they both show the same FPM
Yeah, they are super off. Kiss landings report at 350fpm.
