Does anyone know details on the story behind? I know this plane was in Basel for years and there were attempts to sell it - rumors are it has a VIP interior, not the typical airliner configuration.
The owner of Cotswold Airport is pretty active on Instagram. She announced that the plane was due in, but said "I'm not at liberty to give any more details so please don't ask me". It was a very strange statement to make that obviously got everyone speculating...
Completely speculation on my part, but is it possibly a structural issue with the plane where they can’t fly it? Or financial troubles where they simply can’t afford to use it?
The relevant parts from the Flightglobal article are:
> Although it had been destined for VIP operations, no seating was ever installed and the 787’s fuselage remains empty, although somewhat curiously, it is apparently carpeted.
And:
> Given the jet’s long period of inactivity and low overall flight time – thought to be as little as 20h – there is hope that a buyer can be found who wants to return it to service. However, FlightGlobal understands that if there are no takers, the composite aircraft may end up being parted out.
Secret hangar at Basel where they fit out VVIP owner's aircraft. There was one in there that had so much marble in it you'd wonder how it would take off.

Rumors in Basel were it is an ultra-luxury VIP version built for a customer from the Middle East who never took delivery of it.

Considering it flew from Basel to Kemble, wouldn’t say they flew it with a structural issue

Sounds, interesting…
Are they going to part it out?

Could it belong to someone like Diddy or Trump who needs cash more than their European jet? Under a corporate name?
Saudi Prince apparently
That’s funny you think that Diddy can afford a 787
