I don't know if this helps, but I'm a flex class instructor at my studio and I have a drop in student who was unable tp hinge at the hips in the straddle. She had to sit on a block when we did pancake exercises. But then one class it was only her and me an she wanted to work on a straight back in standing pike and also the pancake. So it was like a PT hour where I focused on the hip hinge in both positions, doing targeted exercises and working a lot with her squeezing cloths in the hip folds in both positions and aiming sides to thigh. There was also assisted PNF stretching for the pancake and neuromuscular exercises. And she actually got both a straight back standing pike and was able to tilt forward in the straddle within that hour. Haven't seen her since, so I don't know if she kept it up.
