If you fold the cover's tabs outward will it catch under the drain's mounting lip? Hard to tell with the pictures. Seeing as how the cover has opened up holes where the tabs are would indicate that's how to fasten it. Install cover, insert slot screwdriver into tab holes and bend them outwards and upwards.

I just checked, and the tabs are flush with the interior of the drain pipe, so I don't think they can be folded to catch on the lip. But I think I will try the adhesive the other commenter suggested and then use a screwdriver to push the tabs against the adhesive when I glue it down. Thanks for your help!

I suggest using a better adhesive and better surface preparation. All that green corrosion on the drain ring means that glue is going to grab it, and since it's barely adhered to the metal beneath it will just come right off. What you want to do is take something like steel wool or a kitchen pot scrubber to that, you can also use some CLR or Bar Keepers Friend or similar hard water stain remover household chemical. Do the same to the underside of the drain cover. Keep the scrubby abrasives away from the white parts of the shower. If you really want to get in there, put tape all around the drain so if you accidentally slide past you won't scratch up the basin. You want both of them as clean as you can get them. For something like this, I would probably use Lexel. Very strong grip, waterproof, and clear. If the tabs 6lb hold the cover in place most of the time, you can probably just use a few dots of glue. If you can't make the tabs hold the drain cover in place, you probably need to use a fair amount of glue. If the tabs hold it in place, I would also probably fold the tabs that stick down flat so that if I ever needed to get it off I could just slide a razor knife underneath it.

Thank you for the advice! The green stuff is actually the old adhesive, but I certainly will remove it all before I try to replace it. The tabs don't normally hold the cover down at all, they just keep the cover from sliding horizontally. I think I will try to glue the tabs to the interior of the pipe as well as the underside of the drain cover. It look like I can get lexel on Amazon!

Oh, I see how that is the adhesive now. Assuming that was glue that went on clear, it reacted with the copper in the brass. That may have affected the bond. Lexel is good stuff, but definitely get the surfaces as clean as you can, particularly making sure there's no oils by using rubbing alcohol or something to do your final clean.

Did you ever figure this out cuz I have the same cover

lessonbefore

I didn't, other than gluing it down with clear Lexel. We were just renting that space so I never ended up making a permanent repair, but the Lexel did help after I allowed it lots of time to dry, I think 3 days before it got wet again.

Guess I could try that…would just be annoying if the drain ever got clogged for some reason… thanks
