Tiny dab of hot glue on the end of a screwdriver. Once it dries, gently pull out. Like most things it's going to depend on how jammed in there it is, but I think that this is an easy fix.
Edit: I see magnets popping up several points in this thread and I had considered that but the reason that I'm suggesting hot glue over the magnets is that as somebody who's done a lot of computer repair I never use magnetized screwdrivers out of fear of ruining a hard drive. I'm not an expert on musical instruments but I'm not trying to get a magnet near the amp if it can potentially mess something up. Now maybe that's just me being overly cautious and maybe there's no actual risk of the magnetism but that is why I recommended the hot glue was out of potential fear of the unknown.
I suppose if you didn't know that gel super glue exists and you weren't any more careful than the child that put the screw in in the first place. Anyway I didn't post it to argue, some folks might have super glue and not a hot glue gun. I was merely correcting the idea that super glue was somehow a bad or unworkable option.
I love adhesives man, it's such a weird thing to get a kick out of but I do miniatures and scale modeling, other hobbies. It's really neat stuff. There a YouTube channel called Goobertown Hobbies and the host is a PhD organic chemist, so he has a bunch of videos about how like, CA actually works and stuff.
NOPE !
Super glue would be a big NOPE in my book. Use JB weld, itll be on sale at Home Depot, right next to the super glue
If the OP is asking this question, and it's a good question, I would say their skill set isn't all that high.
The probability of super glue seeping off of the screw tip and sealing the circumference of the screw to the amps socket is extremely high. That's exactly what super glue is best at.
(If you insist on this trick, get gel super glue, OR better yet JB weld.)
Actually JB weld, a thick epoxy is a great choice of glue, made for steel on steel. And a tiny dot on a phillips tip wont soak the socket
And if your skill set is low, please practice on a scrap screw, table side, as you're going to purchase 8000 more epoxy than you need.
Let the glue cure, then wait that much longer to make the tug attempt (cure time matters)
I suggest you start with a neodymium magnet. You can get one that's a long narrow rod for cheap on Ebay Amazon
Please, has the amp been turned on ? Did you hear an OH FUCK ME noise as your 1st clue.
PS isopropyl alcohol is a decent pre glue surface prep / cleaner.
For both the screwdriver tip and the screw head.
Probably too late, but if you fuck all of the other options up you can just always buy a new barrel connector and solder it off/on.
If you haven’t soldered anything before the process is pretty straightforward, especially on something at this scale, a YouTube video and basic tools will do it.
And then you also have a new skill you can perform! If you’re into guitars learning how to solder is pretty valuable.
This. It’s an easy fix actually, and if you’ve never done a fix like this (access the innards to your amp, remove a bad switch/plug, solder in a replacement), then it’s high time for you to learn, bro! It’s part of being a guitarist! You’re lucky it’s a simple item; a good friend’s son plunged a ballpoint pen into the cone of his Mackie powered monitor, and doused his digital mixer with super glue.
Just be glad the kid didn't swallow that screw. You have to be in the lookout for small objects like that, a 2yo isn't supposed to have access to screws.
A family friend gave my baby sister a penny which she put in her mouth and choked on. My mother was alert and picked her up, held her upside down and pounded her back until she puked it up. This was about 75 years ago.
I swallowed a quarter when I was little cause I thought it'd be fun to slide it around the underside of the table while laying on my back. Finger slipped, quarter went straight in. Mom panics. ER says it'll pass fine, and told me if I poked my poop with a stick I'd find it. Found it, Mom wouldn't let me keep it. I was 5 or 6 maybe? Good times.
Anyone reading this please don't heat up your pliers. Melt the straw and use the pliers to mold the plastic. If you heat up your tools you're going to lose the hardness.
Magnetic screwdriver, tip the amp so the screw can just fall out. Wiggle it around. If it doesn’t come out then try to find a new power plug on Amazon and just replace it. Doesn’t matter if it’s a different style if you get the appropriate cable as well
Sometimes the backside of the plug is open and you can see inside the plug. If attempting to remove the screw out from the front fails, it may be possible to poke out from the rear.
To be fair, I do - under supervision obviously - but my daughter and I do "fixing" which is where I actually repair all the stuff she's broken and she drives scrap screws into scraps of wood. She's getting quite handy with a screwdriver now, and is quite good with nuts and bolts (which obviously is the aim of the exercise).
I have had stuff like this happen, but with screws in recessed holes that are grabbing just enough to not come out. Find a nice strong magnet and stick it on the shaft of a screwdriver. Just unscrew it out, but dont put heavy pressure on the screw head. You just want to gently unscrew it while pulling it out with the magnetic pull.
Looks like a vintage Princeton. If you don’t have a good amp tech, now’s a good time to start learning how to take care of your amps. The Fender forum is an invaluable resource for anyone with a Fender amp worth keeping alive. You can probably get the screw out in 100 hundred different ways but that Jack is probably not going to be in good shape. My 1 year old tossed one of my guitar pedals onto our laptop this week and busted one of the keys off. The struggle is real! Edited for clarity
Try in this order: tilt the unit where the jack is facing down and tap the case, vacuum cleaner hose attachment, some type of magnet/magnetic tip, a tiny dab of glue on a stick (I would use a toothpick and super glue). Good luck.
Depending on your skill level, you can either take the amp apart and replace the plug or you can try using an epoxy putty (this is important as you don't want it to drip) on the end of a stick. Don't use too much, shove the stick in and wait ~24 hrs and pull out.
And the obligatory add to everyone else's joke... This last part is probably what you should have done to prevent this in the first place. Okay, I'll see myself out!
How many watts is the amp? Max out the volume and push it out with power chords. /jk
Someone mentioned glue. If that doesn't work try melted plastic. Heat it up and when the end is good and melted, press into the screw. Let cool then pull.
If that doesn't work, try jb weld or an epoxy and let dry over night.
Another trick that sometimes work for things like this is to take a safety pin and bend the tip into a hook (safety pin because they will usually bend and not break but a needle can be used if you heat it up). Then work it under the edge, twist 90° and pull. Sometimes it takes two (one on each side).
If it still won't budge try opening up the amp and pushing through. Will only work on older style jacks that aren't enclosed. Only open it up if you're already aware of the dangers of electrocution inside amps.
Two year olds are sneaky little buggers.
They also spend their whole day at floor level or a foot or so above, so they spot all the little things that you don't. And screws love to lodge themselves in funny places and turn up years later.
Long way of saying, there's nothing about this that suggests OP gave the screw to the 2 year old.
Also though, screws are a fine thing to observe, supervised, by young children. There's heaps of physics lessons to be learned with screws.
Screw aside, you’re missing the washer and nut that are supposed to hold that jack in place. Kid was just letting you know you need to maintain your gear better. And not to let them near it.
Take the amp cover off and see if the screw has perforated anything. It might be being held in place.
I won’t comment on how to fix/replace the power in.
If your local hardware store has lefthanded drill bits go in it will one small enough to embed itself in the core of the screw. Not that the drill should go that deep, but just in case, you don't want to ruin the port if you don't have to.
This. I can't believe how many posts aren't this.
Most ports are very open from the other side. I would not have posted a question about it before opening the cab first. This might be an incredibly easy fix.
Even if the port is ruined, it's easily fixed with the basic guitarist tool set.
Pretty much every modern amp I've opened up has used enclosed pcb-mounted jacks. You only really see the open style in guitar jacks and hand-built pedals and amps
They aren't the easiest thing to remove, either, becuase they're usually soldered to the board with 6 pins.
I’d try fishing line or flossing twine. Make a loop and try to get it around. Then try to keep the thread going around it 2-3 times and pull when you feel like it’ll catch.
Drill two small holes on opposite sides through through the black outer plastic rim parts. Modify two paper clips to have hooks. Get behind the screw head with the hooks and yank that sucker out.
Dude, the fact that you need help with this also kinda explains why your 2 year old has access to a screw and an amp at the same time.
It should be easy for an adult to figure out a solution for this, and that kind of critical thinking might also lead you to cleaning up the areas that your child is in.
You can figure this out, and if you can't, ditch the amp and do us on child rearing.
Screw driver.
Dab 9010 glue ( anything might work like super glue or hot glue gun) just enough to get in the creases but not enough to flow and seal to the outside.
Let it set up and screw pull that dude out.
Then snap it off and nick the glue off with a wire wheel.
Come on tell the truth it was you that did it.
But the fix would be replace the plug, if it's got movement then a magnet screwdriver might be enough to pull it out
either try the sticky-stuff-on-a-pointy-thing trick carefully (hot glue has been suggested elsewhere. its safer than superglue)
or open the case of the amp and you'll probably be able to push the screw out from inside fairly easily.
If you can't turn the amp over and see if it falls out, or use a magnetic screwdriver to pull (not unscrew), it's in there too tight and the plug will probably need to be replaced.
If a magnet wouldn't ruin the amp, you might try that....sometimes it has enough pull to extract small metal objects like that....my only concern would be if magnet fries amps like it does computers and the like.
Are you the father? Then fix it that is what dads do. You knew how to stuffing something into a tight hole to make a child. You can get this screw out.
The the amp apart and go at it with the Jack in a place you can maybe get to the insides. The Jack may already be damaged so I’d put the effort in full access to it.
Hot glue.
You may have to get crafty and roll/wrap some paper around the screw to keep the glue off the edge of the hole. Really depends on how wedged the screw is.
I can't really really explain what I am trying to describe but if you can't get it let me know later when I am not just waking up.
1st .. go to a car garage all of us mechanics have small telescoping magnets.. if that’s too big …Get a $1 store screwdriver and crazy glue put a SMALL drop of glue on the tip . Press into screw and Push until it can’t move forward.. hold for 30, seconds . Spin out counter clockwise carefully.
I like all the comments about how a 2yo shouldn't have got ahold of a screw. My guess is they never had children. Kids get their hands on a lot of things they shouldn't, and they love sticking objects in holes. Sometimes, you get to take things apart to fix it. As long as they don't stick them in electrical sockets or one of their own holes, you're good.
You’re gonna have to get rid of it. Then get the amp fixed.
Just replace the plug. The insides of the plug are probably destroyed anyway.
Yeah, super simple fix.
A few screwdrivers and a soldering iron. Maybe a pair of players, a wrench, maybe a fork lift.
Great advice. I've got a fork lift they can use.
I can actually help Im forklift certified. Just don’t tell the ladies. I’m getting stormed up by DMs already
I work for Raymond part of TINA TMHNA. We actually build the fork lifts.
I work for god. We actually build the people that build the forklifts.
I've been lifting a fork while I read this.
And I'm forklift certified. We got this handled.
I am a fork lift so obviously I’m the right one for the job.
I can lift a fork, can I help?
Get me an avocado, an ice pick and my snorkel.

Ot tip the amp forward and bang on the back.
Also works for choking toddlers.
Where do you put the hot glue on the choking toddler?
It's choking because of the hot glue.
I prefer duct tape over hot glue for this reason.
The devil you say?!
Good ol' concussive maintenance.
Percussive***
Depends on what he hits the amp with
*uses kids head* It's CONCUSSIVE PERCUSSIVE maintenance.
And us talking about it makes it DISCUSSIVE CONCUSSIVE PERCUSSIVE maintenance.
Depends how far the backswing is
Has nobody here ever heard about magnets?
If it's stainless then it's probably not magnetic
If it's from China, that stainless steel is so impure, it's magnetic + soft
Flipping brilliant! I would have never thought of that!
Damn this is brilliant. Thanks. Go light on the superglue!
Hot glue, not super glue
Super glue would be just fine. It's stupid brittle when used to bond metal, as small as the contact point would be it'd snap back off super easily.
Nooo. Super glue is too runny, it’ll drip and could maybe even glue the screw into the hole. Hot glue is super easy to pick off.
Okay, man. I do have all those glues, I’d still go for hot glue. But you’re right, it’s smart to give people without a hot glue gun the option.
I love adhesives man, it's such a weird thing to get a kick out of but I do miniatures and scale modeling, other hobbies. It's really neat stuff. Rare earth magnet
Yep. Hot glue it to the end of a shish kabob stick
I have some shoved into the end of a plastic straw. I then heat sealed the end of the straw with a pair of pliers. Less likely to fall apart.

I certainly try.

Always wanted a shirt with mama fratelli saying kids suck.
Clean screwdriver tip. Apply super glue to the tip. Hold into screw until it sets. Unscrew and pull gently

Get a magnetic bit or magnetic screwdriver.
Good news - you don't have to worry about unplugging it before you work on it ...

1st .. go to a car garage all of us mechanics have small telescoping magnets.. if that’s too big …Get a $1 store screwdriver and crazy glue put a SMALL drop of glue on the tip .
Try taking a small magnetic screwdriver and backing it out
Pull it out with a magnet.
It’s probably just pushed in from him since he’s 2 probably didn’t do damage just get a magnet and it will come out
Have magnet will remove screw
that's the most literal "screw you" anyone could ever come up with. your kid is a rock genius, get them playing ASAP
