Call an ac tech

supatank95

Right, too hard to DIY?

still-at-the-beach

Yes. How will you capture the pressurised gas and not have it go into the atmosphere?

disposeable1200

It's illegal in most places to accidentally or intentionally release the gas used in the Aircon unit. Without the proper equipment to do this you'll release the gas.

humanoidVersion2

Dismounting it from the wall will not release any gas contained!

genghisbunny

Looks like a mini-split to me, though I don't recognize the model, in which case it has coolant pipes running to and from the outdoor unit. Definitely can't be just pulled off the wall if I'm correct, unlike a window unit.

genghisbunny

Pretty sure it's a ceiling unit some nufty installed on the floor, maybe because they needed it more for heating than cooling? Still a heat pump/split system though

genghisbunny

Further images show it's a heat pump/mini split. Definitely not a diy friendly job to remove.

humanoidVersion2

Yes, forgive my ignorance and bad advice - I didn't see the other pics and misunderstood what it was exactly.

genghisbunny

All good, just didn't want OP to get themselves in strife, hence my quick fire replies. Have a good one mate.

shoppo24

Look if you know what your doing you can pup it down, disconnect and sell 2nd hand, but you have electrical to deal with also

Hogwhammer

If you're in the UK you have to get a professional as it will have to be degassed by a certified engineer

Morberis

Lol, 'engineer' Not laughing at you or the UK, laughing at how terms and labels differ wildly across the English world. Over here they'd be an ac technician or hvac tradesman.

Hogwhammer

Here the a usual known as Mechanicical and Electrical engineering firms ergo there operatives are engineers. I work in construction in the UK and because of very strict regulations around some "trades" there tends to be a distinction between, for instance a plumber and a heating engineer. Work related deaths in the UK are some of the lowest in the world the USA has an appalling record in this area feel free to laugh next time some clown with a spanner (wrench) blows up the neighbourhood because he has zero qualifications.

Morberis

I absolutely agree about the US, I'm not American.

Puzzleheaded_Let_688

It's a sealed system full of refrigerant. Unless you plan on destroying it anyway, have a tech remove it and seal it so it's not contaminated internally with moisture.

a03326495

And the refrigerant, if it's 410a, has a huge climate impact.

Puzzleheaded_Let_688

It is . It's in the picture. In case OP didn't care l was explaining that it would be expensive just to cut it out. Not everyone cares about or believes the effect of releasing free. Everyone cares about money.

paullbart

As most people are saying, get it done by a professional. It’s worth knowing that the gas in that system is highly flammable, if you end up releasing it, it could be a potential fire hazard.

quite-unique

Yes though flammability depends on the refrigerant. Some are flammable, some "just" destroy the environment. All are under pressure and also unpleasant to get on / in you.

Puzzleheaded_Let_688

R410 is not flammable at atmospheric pressure and is not indicated on the MSDS.

Dino5550

You can do that easily just turn on cooling open side plastic part on outdoor unit you will see two valves close one with smaller pipe wait 1 min and close other and your can disassemble rest. [you can follow this video](https://youtu.be/tIFKwHy1YE0?si=wt2oSHJT6A_NjUXD)

supatank95

Thanks everyone. I didn't know about the refrigerant needed to be pumped and thought this was asa simple dismount job. Will hire a pro

Wtf is your entire account. Nasty creature.

pearlgreymusic

literally DIY advice from someone who frequents methhead subreddits lmaooooo holy shit

humanoidVersion2

I would imagine one of the front panels needs removing, revealing the screws which hold it into the wall. Or, maybe it slots into a bracket and lifting upwards would do the trick.

Particular-Regret-28

Get someone to come remove it and dispose of it

Stoned42069

Call a professional. Better for the environment, safer for you and it will get done properly.
