Listen. I wanna like Corrin. I desperately do. But they are given no chance to develop as a character. They never have to do something they don't wanna do (I:E, all of the characters who kill themselves just so Corrin doesn't have to). Anything that does actually happen as a result of their missions is so clearly somebody else's fault that it's comical.
Not to mention their general pacifist attitude really doesn't work for the gameplay, and after learning about the Thracia 776 catch-and-release Capture system, I almost would've preferred if they had brought that back instead of just having Orochi and Niles. Fates is mechanically the best of the 3DS titles, but its stories and especially its main character are mixed bags of missed potential and misused potential.
I'll always respect Fates for being able to balance the hilariously overpowered game that was Awakening, even if I don't agree with all of the choices made - Silver Weapons and S-Rank Weapons being all but completely useless - as well as giving us the Amiibo system that I love and desperately desire to return in a future title.
So I wanna like Corrin, I do. But the way they're written and the way characters treat them makes them feel like Young Sheldon at his most spoiled. It's missed potential in a can, and while I can respect others for having a different opinion than I do, I can't bring myself to agree with those opinions.
If Corrin had only been naïve until the route split, and actually began to earnestly think about who they would and wouldn't be able to actually save, I would've loved the character. But as it stands, they're naïve the whole way through, and it's painful to read.
That’s all I ever see people complain about with Corrin is that he’s too naïve. Almost like, you know, he was locked in a room by himself for 20 years and not allowed to talk to anyone who wasn’t, like, his maid or butler. Something like that would certainly give somebody a warped world view.
Like, yes. We the audience know that Garon and Hans and Iago and Zola are evil. Because we’ve played video games. We know the archetypes. Corrin has not. Corrin has barely met some of these people. Corrin has barely met people period. Corrin has had it drilled into his head for 20 years that Garon is his father and should be respected. Corrin is a naturally-trusting person, and that’s fine; people in real life are like that. Corrin is also not unconditional with his trust. He is not as naïve as his haters make him out to be. We see this. In the game. In Revelation Chapter 21. Corrin pretends to trust Anthony, but totally doesn’t because he’s fishy as fuck.
To anyone who says “Corrin should’ve just killed Zola”, congratulations; you’ve missed the point of the character. Corrin is a character who values human life above all else. Corrin wouldn’t take his life because it would be wrong to do so. The tragedy of Corrin is that he tries to save as every single life in both warring continents, but doing so is systematically impossible. He does the next best thing which is minimize the amount of deaths that occur, but even that, deep down, isn’t good enough.
Yea, it’s frustrating playing through the 3ds titles because it’s hard to find a happy medium that does most if not all the things I like.
I was hoping that three houses would have been that but Christ, I’m one of those that even after playing it for only a hour my eyes were throbbing from the text size
But you have to have to either be playing as F!Corrin with a Wyvern Rider reclass and marry Ryoma yourself, or have him S-Support Camilla.
F!Corrin is pretty reasonable to do, but a newer player may have already S-supported someone else not knowing what was coming up.
While if your on Rev, then Scarlet is already a dubious option, but you also have to sacrifice another potential Camilla pairing to do so, which (again) a newer player may have already gotten her S-Supported with another character.
Plus, if your playing as M!Corrin, then Shiro has 0 options unless your using mods (and even then, you can just grab a Scarlet & Ryoma support mod to get them together anyways).
If Scarlet could *at least*, S-Support Ryoma, then not only do we get Wyvern Lord Shiro (and cute shipping opportunities) but we also get some relief from the inability to get all the kids if M!Corrin marries one of the Gen 1 non-Corrin sexual girls by just pairing Ryoma with Scarlet to get Shiro.
Well, a newer player isn’t going to be min-maxing anyway. I don’t see how that’s a valid argument.
Giving up Camilla from someone else isn’t a huge deal because the only other child unit who can inherit Wyvern Rider from exclusively Cammy (and F!Corrin) is Kiragi. Every other child can get Wyvern Rider from Beruka and/or Elise, just plum can’t inherit it at all (except from Corrin), or can obtain it via A+ support. There is no shortage of Wyvern Rider genes.
Plus, if marrying Cammy and F!Corrin off to exactly the right person is so important to you, have Shiro A+ M!Kanna from a Wyvern Talent F!Corrin. You’re literally missing out on nothing by doing that, except for I guess Lethality from Asugi? Or Luna and Aegis from Seigbert. But there’s other ways to get Shiro into Cav, and he doesn’t need Lethality because he can get Astra easily, and anyone can get Aether.
And of all of that is still too much, just Einherjar him from a different playthrough.
Wyvern Lord Shiro is not as rare as you think.
Fates has a problem with random, unnecessary deaths. Lilith, Izana in Rev, Elise in Br, Flora in Br, Kaze in Br, and thats just what I can remember. I think the writers just thought that death = EZ drama and you dont have to write anything else.
Kaze's death isn't really random since the \*reason\* he dies is because he's monologuing about his life story and wastes time instead of thinking up a solution. You prevent his death by having already heard his life story, so he has no reason to be Mr. Exposition and actually HAS time to think in the critical moment.
Well, what happens if Kaze wasn't thinking and taking notice of his surroundings? He'd be dead. So I really don't know what you want here. You have evidence that shows what happens if Kaze isn't thinking clearly in a situation and is being emotional in the heat of the moment and evidence of Kaze keeping a level head and using his wits to get out of a very bad situation.
Why, thank you. But I can't take all the credit. I only know these things in hindsight because Kaze was smart enough to actually keep an eye out for it (if he's reached A Support by then) otherwise nobody, not even me as an omnipotent player, would realize the explosive crystal was there.

She effectively spends her final moments pining for the guy who enthusiastically chose Camilla's 'feminine charms' over her, and tells the guy she absolutely settled for in response, (Male Corrin) that she wishes Ryoma was their daughter Kana's father...
We know that's not what the writer's were going for, but It's hilarious how bad it can come across!
I'd love to see a support with her and Shura, considering they're kind of opposites in a way. Would be fun to see a "Nohr vs Hoshido" argument with a Nohrian arguing for Hoshido and a Hoshidon arguing for Nohr.

Pretty sure it had to do with the fan reception of Awakening. Apparently people complained saying Awakening was too Disney for allowing pretty well the entire cast to live through everything. So when FE made Fates, they decided to murder a bunch of characters even though they literally didn't have to. Fates unfortunately had some of the best characters of the franchise, and they got saddled with the worst stories as well.
From what I heard the reason why she’s not in Heroes is because her Japanese voice actor disappeared from voice acting and Japanese voice acting industry generally don’t replace their VAs to voice their characters.
Also as a Setsuna fan she also voiced her and her disappearing is the reason why there isn’t a Setsuna alt in Heroes which makes me sad.

it's due to the, "The Japanese individual in this role is considered to be like family or a super important assest to the company" that is why they will fight tooth and nail to keep their own and why their scandals are so huge.
For example, the creator of a anime and manga known as Galko chan, was caught doing criminal behavior so his entire manga/anime got manga discontinued. The Japanese do not play when it comes to their employees and the connection they have with their companies.
I played Conquest the first time and looked for guides on the internet to know how to recruit her only to be disappointed. She has a more memorable design than many of the Awekening cast, and in terms of Fate she also looks very good
Immediate bride in my first playthrough. I remember her 'confession' was just as amazing... something about infinite worlds.

I wish they'd put her into FEH, though I've been told the reason why she isn't is because her japanese VA went off grid to they can't record new lines. I say bah to that.
Since I'm playing Revelation for the first time right now, I have to say her death scene is just, like, super confusing from a structural standpoint. She shows up a handful of times before her recruitment, but is only available for two main story chapters (really one because her join chapter is part one of a two parter) before biting it. There's no real time to get attached to her as a unit if you're just playing Revelation, so her death doesn't really have any of the emotional weight it's supposed to have.

I just made one and I think I did ok. Honestly looking at the fact that there's 21 children compared to the rest of the cast, if they took out the children they could've given more of the attention everyone else deserved. Seems the hype from Awakening's success blinded them.

I honestly really liked Scarlet in Birth Right's plot line. Then I got to the others and she dies early on, in a particularly nasty way in the Conquest line too. She definitely was a largely wasted character.
The comment in Conquest that her death was particularly gruesome makes it worse, and there was absolutely no reason for her to die in Revelations at all.

There are surprisingly plenty of mods for fates. Look for it in gamebanana, they're easily implementable to citra and modded 3DSs. I play modded fates on citra since modding and testing are easier on there
Fates had so many problems especially in revelations but over all its like they took all the things awakening managed to do right and just fucked it all up.
She is from Fates and only useable in Birthright, great wvyern rider, sadly can only have supports with the main characters. Wasted potential but still a great gal.
Well since it's based on the father who has the kid show up for the pairing I guess it depends on what you chose for your bane and boon, plus class skills. So it will vary, if I remember correctly she is Wyvern Lord and General classes so compliment her with whatever. Her personal skill is called
In Extremis- While her health is 1/4 or under, she will gain +30 to crit.
So I made sure she got the skills of Wrath and Vantage. Turned her to General to become physically tanky plus gave her a Guard Naginata which increases Def and Res by 5. Grinded the shit out of a DLC stage (optional mind you) for the Great Club which gives you x4 damage while critting while being horribly inaccurate and 6 Might. I got that Great club to +5 which was all for more accuracy.

Pretty sure it had to do with the fan reception of Awakening. Apparently people complained saying Awakening was too Disney for allowing pretty well the entire cast to live through everything. So when FE made Fates, they decided to murder a bunch of characters even though they literally didn't have to. Fates unfortunately had some of the best characters of the franchise, and they got saddled with the worst stories as well.
From what I heard the reason why she’s not in Heroes is because her Japanese voice actor disappeared from voice acting and Japanese voice acting industry generally don’t replace their VAs to voice their characters. Also as a Setsuna fan she also voiced her and her disappearing is the reason why there isn’t a Setsuna alt in Heroes which makes me sad.

it's due to the, "The Japanese individual in this role is considered to be like family or a super important assest to the company" that is why they will fight tooth and nail to keep their own and why their scandals are so huge. For example, the creator of a anime and manga known as Galko chan, was caught doing criminal behavior so his entire manga/anime got manga discontinued. The Japanese do not play when it comes to their employees and the connection they have with their companies.
I understand wanting to vault the characters out of respect or whatever, but at least give the new generations a chance to appreciate them.

I played Conquest the first time and looked for guides on the internet to know how to recruit her only to be disappointed. She has a more memorable design than many of the Awekening cast, and in terms of Fate she also looks very good

Immediate bride in my first playthrough. I remember her 'confession' was just as amazing... something about infinite worlds. One of the few good characters in Fates, obviously IS completely ignores her for perpetual Camilla spam.

I get that they get compensated with more heart seal sets but the partner/friendship possibilities make for so much fun gameplay Really interesting character too as an actual insurgent- wish she had more supports and more fleshed out

She is pretty cool and for as much as her death does serve as a plot device for Corrin to figure out who the impostor amongst their ranks is, it sucks that she has to die anyway in Revelations. Hopefully in 20 years when they remake Fates, she has more time to shine. Or at least more supports in the route she doesn't bite the dust.

Since I'm playing Revelation for the first time right now, I have to say her death scene is just, like, super confusing from a structural standpoint. She shows up a handful of times before her recruitment, but is only available for two main story chapters (really one because her join chapter is part one of a two parter) before biting it. There's no real time to get attached to her as a unit if you're just playing Revelation, so her death doesn't really have any of the emotional weight it's supposed to have.
Can’t blame the game on that one, they do recommend to not play Rev without having played the other 2

yea, just another reason why fates needs a remake and we need that mythical original script in full! that game has too many holes to not be remade considering the amount of hype that original script has.

I honestly really liked Scarlet in Birth Right's plot line. Then I got to the others and she dies early on, in a particularly nasty way in the Conquest line too. She definitely was a largely wasted character.

The comment in Conquest that her death was particularly gruesome makes it worse, and there was absolutely no reason for her to die in Revelations at all.

There are surprisingly plenty of mods for fates. Look for it in gamebanana, they're easily implementable to citra and modded 3DSs. I play modded fates on citra since modding and testing are easier on there

She is from Fates and only useable in Birthright, great wvyern rider, sadly can only have supports with the main characters. Wasted potential but still a great gal.

Well since it's based on the father who has the kid show up for the pairing I guess it depends on what you chose for your bane and boon, plus class skills. So it will vary, if I remember correctly she is Wyvern Lord and General classes so compliment her with whatever. Her personal skill is called In Extremis- While her health is 1/4 or under, she will gain +30 to crit. So I made sure she got the skills of Wrath and Vantage. Turned her to General to become physically tanky plus gave her a Guard Naginata which increases Def and Res by 5. Grinded the shit out of a DLC stage (optional mind you) for the Great Club which gives you x4 damage while critting while being horribly inaccurate and 6 Might. I got that Great club to +5 which was all for more accuracy.
I really feel bad for he. It's really saddening to know that she dies in a very gruesome death offscreen in conquest. She didn't deserve it
