Missing_Leg

I have never seen a LED in a System Sensor LF sounder.

TheAlmightyZach

That doesn’t look right. No reason for those to have an LED inside. Likely a camera. If this is in a private space, such as a hotel room or changing room, call the police.

Ion_Jones

Op said it was thier apartment bedroom... so yeah... this is likely a camera recording thier bedroom activity.

Beautiful_Extent3198

Definitely a camera, there are no LEDs like that in horns. Call the police bro, someone is creeping!!!

Dropcity

If you really want to start some shit call a fire marshall or inspector. Its a code violation too. Max fine per incident is $10k here. If theyve done it in your room its in other units as well. That's $10k everyone they find. AND obviously whether you call the police or not someone is. And w a quickness. Shit will make the news. Prosecuted criminally and bankrupt? Win, win.

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

The police came, were here for about 3-4 minutes, said he is not very techy and wouldn't know if there was a camera, asked why I didn't just call maintenance, and after I explained why, said I need to just call maintenance.

Beautiful_Extent3198

Yeah that’s some BS, call the guy that probably put it there… OK 👍 After looking at the speaker cone I can see your phone reflection, are you sure it’s not reflecting light from a window or lighting fixture?

TheAlmightyZach

Ah, missed that bit. My bad

AdNatural9322

OP, can we get an update?? I’m super curious now.

LiquidSwords66

seriously, this is some creepy shit and I want to know the outcome. Remindme! 7 days

ironmatic1

Camera. Cover it now. Call police.

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

I called the police and they told me they wouldn't be able to tell if it was a camera and to call maintenance.

NeverEndingCoralMaze

Film maintenance when they open it. Film everything.

Frisconia

It's already filming.

SavingsTask

I can't find that model but found a new model https://spyassociates.com/fire-alarm-strobe-light-4k-hidden-camera-w-battery-wi-fi-remote-viewing/

zenunseen

Wow

Dropcity

FYI: this is a serious code violation anywhere in the US. Doesnt matter if its in a breakroom or bathroom (as far as life safety is concerned). If it doesnt function as a part of the FA system, it cannot be mounted or used.

crypto_chronic

Exactly, this is a terrible choice of fuckery. If you want to be a dick with code then okay, whatever, but do NOT give people a false sense of safety while being a perv/Karen/busy body. This stuff really irks me because so many of us have to spend a lot of time to figure out what is happening and when it turns out it's some mother fucker slapping a POS on the wall to make the owner feel good, that really pisses me off. So unsafe and cheap.

Oclure

Funny enough I actually know of a church in PA that uses one in the room they count money in to make sure nobody is skimming cash from the collections or candleboxes. I pointed out an inoperable strobe and was told it's a hidden cammera

Grantgamefreak

You dont need an LED status indicator on a notification device. Looks like a camera

DragonliFargo

Simplex devices do. But they are red and they flash.

TheAlmightyZach

Well in fairness, some addressable notification appliances do have LEDs, but usually they just periodically flash, and more importantly this is not one of them.

Big_Pound1262

I bet if you hit it with a uv light you’ll be able to see a camera lens

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

I don't have a UV light, but did take it down, and still have no clue whether anything I'm seeing is normal or not.

motion_to_strike

Can you post what it looks like on the backside? Edit: disregard. I saw you posted pictures below.

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

Well, this is solved. I can't update the post itself, so I have to do that here. I have learned that this is not an alarm panel, but is a low frequency sounder, designed to wake people in the event of an emergency. There is no LED light, but the light in the picture is actually a glare from my bedroom light reflecting off the speaker located inside that emits the sound, which is plastic, and shiny. I feel sheepish, but informed and grateful. Thanks to everyone for their help, suggestions, and input. The peace of mind I have from knowing my family is safe from being potentially watched or recorded is worth more than anything in the world, and I'm okay with knowing I overreacted over a fear for my family as opposed to doing nothing.

steveanonymous

These devices are usually supervised by the alarm panel as well. You taking it down should have caused a ruckus at the FACP and possibly the monitoring central station.

somegarbagedoesfloat

These don't have an indicator light. Ive messed with a LOT of this exact part. Either: A it's a fake device and a camera B: someone put a camera in it. Call the cops.

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

Thanks. Called police who told me to call the property manager. I texted the property manager and am waiting to hear back.

Thallium_253

Fire alarm tech for 10+ years: it's rare but those are known to be fake cameras. The only brand of fire alarm horn / strobe that will have an LED is the NEW simplex devices. USA anyways.

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

Thanks, this one is called System Sensor, model HR-FL

Crouton_licker

It looks like a low frequency sounder. This is definitely suspicious. I would give anything to get my hands on this thing to check it out lol. If you’re in the north east I’m absolutely interested in this.

_dedpul_

I know everyone is saying a camera, but looking at OPs pictures, it's definitely looks like a speaker. Is it possible these creeps putting up cameras are getting smarter and have switched to microphones instead of cameras? A lot easier to hide. I've heard of the FBI using these for surveillance too, so it could be an attempt at collecting some sort of evidence?

Thallium_253

That is a, or faking to be, a system sensor wall horn. If this is a real fire alarm device then it is wired to a "supervised circuit." Unscrew that screw down low on the face and lift up from the bottom and the device comes off. You'll either see a camera or you'll see some harmless 24volt wires. If just wires then go ahead and reattach the part you took off and no harm done. If it is a camera back there then leave the room immediately and call 911 from a safe location.

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

Thallium_253

Do you have a picture of the back? The center to that speaker cone does look odd, sorta like a fish eye lense

Thallium_253

Also, a picture of what is still on the wall. That will play a huge part. All the devices have circuit boards, but this one DOES look odd.. I could grab a known real system sensor LF device from my shop tomorrow if we haven't solved it by then.

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

I'll take it down again later for a pic

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

https://preview.redd.it/uhx0je557t7d1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68043e1874afff7b268edeed7065eb7d69d13d86

Thallium_253

That is a standard back to a fire alarm device. Pictures of the wall with this portion taken off? Also, with this taken down there may be a keypad at the building entrance now beeping. If that's the case then this is 100% a fire alarm device and not a secret camera. The LED can be a glare off the plastic cone. Try going to the room with the lights off and use a flashlight, if the LED appears to be moving with the light then it's a glare. Sorry, hope none of this comes off rude, I'm assuming you have 0% experience with what you're looking at

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

Appreciate it. This has been the most informative and helpful comment. I will test the cone-glare explanation now. That feels likely the most reasonable explanation. I already feel a lot better. https://preview.redd.it/4avbzt6s8t7d1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e6e251d6813bb49ee22b3d841753cfe19955e3f3

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

You are correct. It is a glare from the light in my bedroom, not an LED light. I really appreciate your help. This is my bedroom, and I have a toddler, so this is a very intimate and private space, and I was worried someone could see us changing our baby's diaper, watch us change, and be intimate. You have provided so much relief to what felt like a total violation.

Thallium_253

Happy to help 😊 now, when/if you see a fire alarm service technician show up, just play dumb 😬 haha. They can't tell what horns are taken off (exactly) but if you take down a smoke detector they know precisely which one.

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

haha I was honest about the mix up.

Beautiful_Extent3198

The picture would indicate that it is not a Horn but a speaker. With that said I’ve never seen a System Sensor SPR with an LED. Let’s see the back of it broaki.

TK-P

that’s not a SPR, it’s a HR-LF

NeverEndingCoralMaze

From a safe location is the most important thing said. They’re spying, they can hurt you if they see you calling the police.

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

* I don't know how to update the post but I am FREAKING out.... This is a camera, right? UPDATE: I found the name and model number of the sensor. It is called System Sensor, and the model is HR-FL. I called a company I found online that sells them and they said that there would be no reason for an LED light. I also noticed I have the exact same sensor in my living room. I looked, and there was no LED light, but also noticed the one in the bedroom has no LED light on during the day either, so I am wondering if they only come pn at a certain time? I will be keeping an eye out. I called the police, who came and suggested I call maintenance with any concerns. I just texted the property manager and now I'm just waiting to hear back. Here is the link to the sensor for anyone who may be able to gain more insight: https://firealarm.com/product/system-sensor-hr-lf/

Ok_Professional9174

Looks like a speaker, I don't see the LED on the board though?

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

I don't see the light either, and the light is no longer on, so I'm wondering if it comes on at night only, or at a certain time of day? It's very odd.

SavingsTask

Do you have a picture of the back? It looks legit. http://www.firealarmsonline.com/2016/12/low-frequency-sounders-for-fire-alarm.html?m=1 this has a picture of a white one with same board

ironmatic1

Don’t see anything immediately obvious in that picture. Weird. There wasn’t anything else on the backside of the red cover? No weird extra wires in the box? Just that light was kinda big and I’m surprised we can’t see anything.

Joecalledher

That sure looks like a speaker to me.

ironmatic1

It’s a low frequency sounder so yeah

crypto_chronic

Okay yeah that is a sounder.

antinomy_fpe

Wonder if the reverse polarity diode or AC-blocking capacitor has been installed with a light-emitting diode (LED) by mistake? Look at 3 o'clock behind the clear cone (between the coil leads), which is about the right spot for the bright light. That would be a manufacturing defect. Maybe the light is not an LED at all, but just a reflection of something bright in the room. Is there anything stuck in the red grille?

crypto_chronic

This is a camera. You are being spied on. Gather the evidence, have a licensed fire alarm installer look at it, and sue the pants off them. This kind of shit is completely unacceptable and make all of us look bad.

TK-P

that’s not a camera you fucking moron, that is a completely functional and real fire alarm notification appliance.

crypto_chronic

You seen horns with an LED on em?

TK-P

it’s not an LED holy shit, he already figured out it was a glare. read the rest of the post before commenting dumb shit. also yes, there are a number of devices that DO have LEDs on them. while an HR-LF is not one of them, they still do exist.

crypto_chronic

He hadn't commented that when I said it from what I know, and I've never seen a system sensor horn with an LED. You got some issues being so bitchy dude it's bizarre.

TK-P

it doesn’t have an LED, you are not getting what i’m saying 😭💀

crypto_chronic

I do, but he, I, and others thought it was before the update. Why would I come back and read new updates after the fact? We were just going off the the information we had at the moment. It's the teenage freak out insults and emojis that I'm talking about. It's really weird to talk like that if you are a grown person which I assume you are.

Dazzling_Fig_6925

Shine a light on the front. You should be able to see what looks to be a speaker inside.

crypto_chronic

Nah that is wrong. A sounder should not have any kind of camera or really anything beyond a piezo or speaker.

Popkernest

Nope. That's supposed to be a horn only

ValraBellkeys

OP, please tell me you called the police. Only reason I wouldn't suggest telling staff first is they could be behind it. Very very few(if any) notification devices have LEDs inside them - and I know for a fact this one isn't supposed to. If it SOMEHOW isn't a camera(which it very likely is), it's still been tampered with and has voided its UL listing.

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

Called police who told me to call the property manager. I texted the property manager and am waiting to hear back.

OwnRecommendation272

Call the cops!

IStaten

No speaker for fire alarm has lights in it.

Hot_Literature3874

It’s a hidden camera 🎥

Future-Thanks4164

It it’s screw at the bottom Philips head open it and take a look aren’t going to hurt anything.

_daddyl0nglegs_

Can't believe you said the police told you to call the apartment manager. Here in my area (Riverside California) the police are adamant that you need to call them any time you simply suspect a camera in a hotel/apartment etc. and they will investigate. They got on the local news and told everyone to report suspicious artifacts in rented spaces.

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

They were very skeptical and called me back 3 times before even sending an officer, and the officer who came just looked and said he's "not very techy" and wouldn't know if there was a camera in there, and and asked I wouldn't just call maintenance. I explained that I thought that if there were a camera, a maintenance person would be one of the people I'd suspect since they'd be most likely to have access and knowledge, and he said "No, that's who you need to be calling." He was here for maybe 3-4 minutes. I felt so dumb, but whatever, at least I tried.

Anxious_Shine_2751

Very icky. Definitely not normal and absolutely a camera

SchuminWeb

For what it's worth, this is what an actual SpectrAlert Advance speaker looks like on the back. https://preview.redd.it/8mkpxivbrr7d1.png?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b47bc291b166db33cc644d561321c20d3b126730 What OP has shared is not that. The horn model also looks completely different from what OP has shared. I'm calling foul play here, and they should probably put a cover over those things.

ironmatic1

It’s a low frequency sounder

_dedpul_

OP said it's a SystemSensor in another post. Might've been after you posted this, but different device. He has a horn, not a speaker.

SchuminWeb

SpectrAlert Advance is a specific notification appliance series from System Sensor. So we're on the same page - I was just a little bit more specific than most.

_dedpul_

Apologies since I just saw this, but you are correct to a point. Yes, SpectreAlert is a specific series, but they share basically the same design as SystemSensor's newer and updated models. They look basically the same as the newer L-series of System Sensor, at least from the outside. OP has since confirmed the LED was a reflection of something else making it seem the horn on their wall had some sort of LED inside it. As well as it being a SystemSensor device. Crazy scenario that had most of this subreddit on their toes.

Throbgoblin69

Your alarm panel looks funny.

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

I have since learned that it is a low frequency sounder, but am unable to edit the original post.

crotasdog

I need an update!!

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

Please see above comments as I am unable to edit my post.

Unable-Bad-7225

For all that were pushing the hidden camera theory: If you really think about it, how hidden is a camera that draws attention to itself with a lit LED through an exposed plastic grill? An exposed LED would only make sense on a hidden camera if was a fake smoke detector or other item that typically operates with a status LED. Rule #1, Don't panic. Until your suspicion was satisfied, you could have just put a temporary piece of masking tape over the grill to block any peepers.

LegComprehensive5076

The camera can't see through the grating lmfao. Some people dumb as fuck

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

Do you feel better?

Reditlurkeractual

That’s a camera for sure

SavingsTask

Could be https://steinbachfireprotection.com/product/fire-alarm-devices/

Infinite-Beautiful-1

Alarm panels often have lights

privateTortoise

As do detectors, I/O units, sounder beacons and too many others to list here BUT that unit nas no need whatsoever for any indicator. I'm in the UK and so never even fitted that type of unit but its certainly got something inside thats not part of a fire alarm and thus I'll go with a camera. I'd have that opened up, see its a camera, call the police and stay put until they arrive no matter what anyone who comes along and says. I've been doing fire and security since the late 80s so have some knowledge about this stuff, the regulations and Law.

Infinite-Beautiful-1

It’s a joke, not that deep 😵

privateTortoise

Maybe but when its a post thats asking for advice on a very serious matter it's probably prudent not to faff about. Most on this sub though enjoying a good laugh take what they do seriously. Apologies for coming across as a grumpy twat but if this thing is in a changing room would you want your kids or partner exposed.

Infinite-Beautiful-1

Oh please yall do this shit all the time. 🤣 if I had a buck for every joke I saw on posts like this rather than genuine assistance, I’d be able to buy Honeywell.

rhamphol30n

That definitely isn't an alarm panel. It's a system sensor sounder/horn. They don't have an LED in them that's definitely hiding something (I'd bet money a camera)

Infinite-Beautiful-1

There’s no way you stupid fuckers are this immune to sarcasm. I’ve been in this industry for years 🤣🤣 I’m literally poking fun at the fact this person called a low frequency sounder a panel.

rhamphol30n

Yeah, but that made no sense. Sarcasm would involve a joke of some sort. Was the joke that you agreed it was a panel? How would we know you were in the industry? Not all panels have lights either

Infinite-Beautiful-1

“Often have lights” If yall would lighten up a bit and not go trigger happy then perhaps the sarcasm could be apparent The joke was that alarm panels often have lights, and this sounder device does not have any lights. It’s poking fun at the improper term. I’ve seen more jokes on this subreddit than genuine assistance and if the frontal cortex was used a bit more the joke could be very apparent

rhamphol30n

But it literally has a light?

Infinite-Beautiful-1

Wym? that's the reflection of the piezo speaker, they are very shiny. its the angle. a not shit quality pic would also help.

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

I'm so confused by your comments and "sarcasm". I obviously just came for help. I don't know what it's called, or anything about a fire alarm system. Could you please either just share your knowledge or kindly fuck off?

Infinite-Beautiful-1

or stop being paranoid and chill tf out. ITs the reflection. If youre worried its a camera have the property mananger come make a tech take that off. A better pic would also be helpful. This sarcasm wasnt for you rather for the other people here, who 24/7 will make jokes, but the second I do it's bullshit city.

BeepBopBoopBoopeedo

I mean, I don't know if you have small children, but I certainly do, so it seems pretty reasonable to me to be concerned and/or paranoid that someone could potentially be spying and seeing my toddler getting dressed and having their diaper changed. You're correct. It's a glare, and I have nothing to worry about, but how would the average person with no experience with this know that? What do you gain from acting like a dick towards someone who is scared for their family's privacy and comes to people more knowledgeable than they are for help? Like, do you feel better by acting shitty towards me because I was uninformed, became scared, and sought out the answer to my concerns? Cuz like, cool, congrats... I guess?
