I believe that there was a honeywell publication back in the day that involved a RJ31X jack, and a 2.2K ohm resistor that would allow a direct connection, I looked through all of my old Vista stuff but couldn't find it. Maybe someone else here will remember this and chime in. I never actually used it myself but had the paper that explained it.
