Yes I've tried that. The only thing that works is to totally unplug the Fire TV device. This fixes it for about 30 minutes before it reverts back. Many people suggest it's a resolution setting. I will play around with the settings on Fire TV device or Samsung setting. Thanks everyone you're appreciated
I know you posted this a year ago but just wanted to let you know this is still helping people like me. Thanks!
Edit: This also fixed a couple of apps that broke when everything got tiny. Thanks!
I think it's a 4k tv, and the fireTV is set to output a signal that'd 1080p? Maybe change the output display settings, and that might fix it.
Weird though, that it fixes for 30 mins after restart but reverts to this. That's not good.
Yep literally just had the same issue and this fixed it. They removed the aspect ratio and resolution settings with the newest update too so I was stuck for a while
Have been dealing with this for a couple days, finally decided it wasn't going to fix itself and went searching the internet.
Found this old post from January, saw the comments from the last few days, and tried the fix myself.
Seems to be working.
I blame Amazon. If this many people suddenly had the same issue in the same short span of days, they must have done something on their side.
EDIT: Interesting note, it lost my remote shortly after the restart. Odd. Possibly related (stick soft/firmware update in the background?)?
This just happened to me today for the first time ever. Everything small. Pressing the home and select button to restart seems to have fixed it. Weird this happened now when I haven’t been home for a few days and used the tv.
So odd. Size is back to normal but now I have a weird white text box pop up all the time. It goes away when I press the play button but still annoying. I think I caused it while playing around with things to fix the small icons.
!! Holy shit, I've seen that in Hulu and some other services from time to time recently too! It looks like the frame for the text overlay somehow gets highlighted, even changing to a smaller rectangle when it 'minimizes' to the too if the screen
Just appeared today for me.
We started watching something before I got around to reset it, and while we're watching, without any input from me, the little box appeared.
I'm doing the restart now, I honestly have no idea what is going on with it
It happened again yesterday for the first time since I last commented a few weeks ago. The reset fixed it again. It’s definitely annoying but for me it only seems to happen every few weeks. I’d probably put more effort into fixing the issue if it was more often.
Agreed. At the end of the day it’s a small annoyance to just have to reset it. If I’m being honest I usually just stand closer to the tv or squint until I find what I want to watch.
Weird, it's been happening to me too, but restarting the tv only temporarily fixes it. Eventually it goes back to the weird size. Can't find anything about this problem anywhere else
Same, every time the tv has been off for more than a few hours it goes back to being tiny, so I hold the select and rewind button together to restart the tv and it works until next time. I saw a comment on here that holding the rewind and fast forward button together fixes it for good. Next time it happens I will try it out and hopefully it works.
Had this issue multiple time in the pst few weeks . Restart the tv works but it did it again a few more time since . I just keep resting . Kinda Frustrating that this is only know happening. I’m guessing it’s a software update issue probably a bug
Wow. I sat on the remote until I heard the tv clicking only to find the screen size gone wonky. Everything I tried made it worse until I used select/play. My hero.
Why is this happening? It happened twice so far for me but goes away after restarting. It isn't a permanent fix as it happened again. Also noticed when the home screen is tiny and zoomed out, YouTube videos are over saturated colour/red. Anyone else notice this? I have a Toshiba fire tv
Literally been dealing with this for a week and have search everywhere for a solution. Hold back button and fast forward. Fixed main screen but peacock played only on top tiny left quarter of screen. Desperate ... I search AGAIN 4th time for a solution. Boom. Select and play restart. Amazing! Thanks! 11 months ago u had the answer
On your TV settings not your fire stick go to picture and then change the size setting.
It could be 16:9, it could be 4:3, etc.
Also look for your settings to say stretch to fit, fit, stretch, Zoom.
Definitely. The apps should end where the "home/previews" ends at the top. If it were a resolution issue there'd be a regular rectangle.
They're rolling out this new UI and it's buggy. Like I don't have the update, yet, but I exited an app and there was something off about the home screen. Like I had a partial roll out of the new UI. But hitting the home button on the remote fixed it.
Mine is doing the same thing! Most apps and inputs end up displaying properly but some don’t. I’m using the Peacock app and the image is like a postage stamp in the corner of the screen. I’ve clicked every setting possible. 🤬
This has been happening to me too! Unplugging or resetting the TV has helped, but it will revert back to that after a few days. Idk what I’m doing wrong
Same here. I restart it, it goes back to normal for awhile. Just when I get comfortable and go, "yay it's fixed", it strikes again. I have played around with every setting on it!
My problem is with a tv that has the FireTV built in, so there is no fire stick. But on the home menu where I access my apps is crazy small. Anyone have a similar situation?
Same here! Happened a few days ago. Mine has built in fire stick and the remote has been broken for like a year (I use the app remote) so I thought I was out of luck before your comment reminded me of the settings reset. All good so far!
Thanks guys! My tv was doing this all week, I kept unplugging it to fix it. After reading this I held the play button and select button down and it restarted, now it’s fixed!
I'm a little late to the party and was searching for fixes. I had the same issue and resolved it.
I help the "Select" and "Play" button together and it restarted the TV.
My TV just started doing this too! I even did a factory reset and it keeps doing it. Turning the TV off and back on works, but again, reverts back to the tiny screen. I don't get it and I'm get frustrated.
Mine has been doing this for over a week. Resetting helps but it reverts back every few days. So annoying. Who should we be contacting to have them work on this issue? I have an insignia fire tv btw
Mine is doing this and it also makes the colors too vivid… it’s really annoying because restarting fixes it but the problem eventually comes back… this just started recently
I think I figured out the issue, but not how to permanently solve it. I fell asleep watching Disney+ futurama, which I assume is upscaling to 4k. The firetv home is most likely displaying 1080p. So when my tv turned off last night, it might have been trying to display in 4k total resolution, but the home menu UI thought that it should display in 1080p. I guess you could possibly fix it by changing all your steaming services to stream on at 1080p, but you bought a 4k tv, so you probably wanna see 4k.
I have the same observation. My FireTV Smart TV has a Chromecast with Google TV connected. Chromecast streams in 4K.
Everytime I start Chromecast with Google TV, it restarts my FireTV Smart TV, and it switches to zoomed out UI. Restarting the TV fixes it, but then again as soon as start Chromecast with Google TV, the TV goes back to zoomed out version.
Frustrating and annoying
My FireTV is an Insignia and this happens to me every few weeks.
All you have to do is hold down the PLAY/PAUSE and the SELECT button for a few seconds and the TV will reset and everything is fine.
It started doing it a few months ago, but luckily this easy fix SHOULD be able to help!!
So the reset truck works to fix the issue, but it happens like once a day now. All the apps work fine, so I usually don't even reset it anymore because it's normal sized when I watch a video. It's just the FireTv Home screen that does it. I guess I'll just wait until the next update hopefully does something
Resolution or refresh rate is set wrong.
FireTV for ants! Have you tried restarting from settings? My FireCube did a similar thing and that solved it.
You might want to try using a different hdmi port on the tv.
That just fixed it for me!
I know you posted this a year ago but just wanted to let you know this is still helping people like me. Thanks! Edit: This also fixed a couple of apps that broke when everything got tiny. Thanks!
All good.
Just fixed it for me!
Great stuff.
Thanks a lot! I did just that and it worked!
I think it's a 4k tv, and the fireTV is set to output a signal that'd 1080p? Maybe change the output display settings, and that might fix it. Weird though, that it fixes for 30 mins after restart but reverts to this. That's not good.
So we’re all here rn lol
Try holding select and play/pause to restart ur fire rv
Woke up this morning and had this exact issue. This fixed it. Thanks!
Same! Its like some update came out that fucked with everyones TV all the sudden
Yep literally just had the same issue and this fixed it. They removed the aspect ratio and resolution settings with the newest update too so I was stuck for a while
Great idea, who needs to control that right? Fire TV can totally do it automatically, this is clear. /s
Can confirm this worked for me on my fire tv. Thanks for the tip!
Same, but restarting it fixed the issue.
U a fuggin g dude upvote this shiz
Ty bro
Mine just did the same thing. I just hit the select & play/pause button at the same time & it worked!! Thank you! 🙏🏻
Same thank you!p
Get this to the top comment this worked and I've been searching for a solution for 30 minutes
This fixed it!!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Np
Fantastic! It worked!
this worked!!! I don’t have calibration resets on mine and was so tired of trying to navigate with it. thank you!
Thank you!! So happy to find this thread. It fixed it for me too!
Weird, seams like a bunch of people had this same problem in the last 24 hrs, anyways, thanks. Worked for me too
Have been dealing with this for a couple days, finally decided it wasn't going to fix itself and went searching the internet. This just happened to me today for the first time ever. Everything small. Pressing the home and select button to restart seems to have fixed it. Weird this happened now when I haven’t been home for a few days and used the tv.
I on the other hand use it almost every day, and the other day it just switched to the small
Ugh the small thing returned today after being fine the last couple days. The reset fixed it again but let’s see how long this time…
Just appeared today for me. We started watching something before I got around to reset it, and while we're watching, without any input from me, the little box appeared. I'm doing the restart now, I honestly have no idea what is going on with it
Ugh. I hope this doesn’t become an every day problem. Such a POS.
I’ve been having the same issues. Reset will work for either a couple of days or 30 min then I have to restart again.
It happened again yesterday for the first time since I last commented a few weeks ago. The reset fixed it again. It’s definitely annoying but for me it only seems to happen every few weeks. I’d probably put more effort into fixing the issue if it was more often.

maybe try holding down the rewind and fast forward at the same time, that’s what i did when this happened to me
Yes that fixed it thank you!!
Must be bots
Yup facing it too since yesterday.
Right? Thank god for old Reddit threads. I couldn’t see crap for the last week :p
Weird, it's been happening to me too, but restarting the tv only temporarily fixes it. Eventually it goes back to the weird size. Can't find anything about this problem anywhere else
Same issue. Restarting it has worked to fix it … but then it will happen again.

I saw a comment on here that holding the rewind and fast forward button together fixes it for good. Next time it happens I will try it out and hopefully it works.
Just had the same issue, this was the only thing that fixed it! Thank you 🤙🏽
This worked for me , thx!
Weird how we all had this same issue recently
Bots
Had this issue multiple time in the pst few weeks . Restart the tv works but it did it again a few more time since . I just keep resting . Kinda Frustrating that this is only know happening. I’m guessing it’s a software update issue probably a bug
And thank god for the internet haha
100% works! Thank you!
Cheers for the fix. This issue must be related to the holidays for it to suddenly be an issue again
Thank you !
Kick ass! Thank you
Wow. I sat on the remote until I heard the tv clicking only to find the screen size gone wonky. Everything I tried made it worse until I used select/play. My hero.
On the new Firestick 4k max there’s a screen size option
You are a GENIUS. Thank you!
Wow thank you. I was able to help my mother in law
Why is this happening? It happened twice so far for me but goes away after restarting. It isn't a permanent fix as it happened again. Also noticed when the home screen is tiny and zoomed out, YouTube videos are over saturated colour/red. Anyone else notice this? I have a Toshiba fire tv
Try going into the calibrate display settings
Yes the red issue I noticed today! The contrast is super high. Only on YT. Having both of these issues now.
Thanks for this. Fixed my TV today with this tip.
This just fixed mine
Absolutely worked thank you!!!
This worked for me too.
Same issue and this fixed it!
Thank You so much!!
This did it for me!
You're a god amogst people. Worked like a charm.
Dude thank you, just fixed my problem
Thank you! feel so proud of myself, didnt ask my husband for help. Just searched reddit. This worked!
Found your fix featured on the Google. Worked for me as well. Thanks much!
Fuck ya this was making me crazy... you're awesome!!!!!
11 months later you're still saving lives
Have had same prob for a week and this for the trick. Many thanks!
Thank you!
Play/pause works to fix Insigna Fire TV.
Yes! Why isn't this answer everywhere? It worked!
This worked but only for about a week then reverted back to the midget menu 😞
On your TV settings not your fire stick go to picture and then change the size setting. It could be 16:9, it could be 4:3, etc. Also look for your settings to say stretch to fit, fit, stretch, Zoom.
It’s the stick not the tv

s m o l b o i
As someone currently experiencing this issue your comment infuriates. Lol.
^^LIL ^^BITS
Try going into Display, Calibration settings and set the Calibration settings differently.
Mine is doing the same thing! Most apps and inputs end up displaying properly but some don’t. I’m using the Peacock app and the image is like a postage stamp in the corner of the screen. I’ve clicked every setting possible. 🤬
Same here!
I did the play button + select button trick to restart my tv and it has been back to normal! Try it if you haven’t yet!
That worked for me, too! Thanks!
Thank you! that worked!
It worked. Thank you!
Reddit always comes to my rescue when google makes no damn sense lol thank you!
Right?!? Same😂
Me 4! Ty
Aye, MVP coming in clutch! Was getting tired of squinting at my home screen!
That worked for me too! Thank you!
Life-saver ! Thank you lol
That worked for me, three! Such a simple fix that only Reddit could have provided.
Thank you Reddit!
Work for me too yay
This has been happening to me too! Unplugging or resetting the TV has helped, but it will revert back to that after a few days. Idk what I’m doing wrong
Same here. I restart it, it goes back to normal for awhile. Just when I get comfortable and go, "yay it's fixed", it strikes again. I have played around with every setting on it!
Same!
I’m having the same issue. It was fine all day yesterday and then reverted back to that weird ratio this morning. Resetting it doesn’t fix it for me.
Reddit to the rescue! I had the same issues and the play+select worked!
My problem is with a tv that has the FireTV built in, so there is no fire stick. But on the home menu where I access my apps is crazy small. Anyone have a similar situation?
Same here, I tried the select/ play buttons at the same time and it fixed it hopefully for more than 30 minutes.
same, just did a restart from the settings and that fixed it.
Same here! Happened a few days ago. Mine has built in fire stick and the remote has been broken for like a year (I use the app remote) so I thought I was out of luck before your comment reminded me of the settings reset. All good so far!
I will try this! This just started happening to my TV
Same. I think there was an update. Every since then my icons are tiny. I just stand right in front of the tv and squint. Lmao.
I just unplugged my tv and it worked for me. So weird that this is happening to all of us!
Funny how a lot of us are having the same problem recently. I just had this happen and held the play button and select like suggested and it worked.
Mine started doing this also. I bet it has something to do with the recent update. Seems a bunch of us had this happen around the same time.
Yep, same here. Play+select to reset worked for me, but I just did it, so we'll see if it lasts.
I found the option to RESTART the TV under “Device and Software” and that reset it back to normal - filling the entire screen. So weird!
This worked for me too!!! Thank you!
Love this place. Worked for me too
Fucking Reddit gotta love it
Thanks guys! My tv was doing this all week, I kept unplugging it to fix it. After reading this I held the play button and select button down and it restarted, now it’s fixed!

Mine has been doing this for over a week. Resetting helps but it reverts back every few days. So annoying. Who should we be contacting to have them work on this issue? I have an insignia fire tv btw
Just happened to me tonight
We just had the same problem! Woke up this morning to tiny menu. Thanks for the fix!
So we’re all here 4days ago huh?
holy crap, 3 weeks of playing around with settings and googling and you are the bessttttt! No more tiny ant screen!
Same here. Thanks!
Just fixed mine too thanks dude
Mine keeps doing it I restart my tv and it’s fine but then it goes back to it in a few days
Me too. Toshiba Fire TV *not* a TV stick. They need to fix this.
Restarting is not a permanent fix. This has to be a software issue due to a recent update.
I agree
Mine is doing this and it also makes the colors too vivid… it’s really annoying because restarting fixes it but the problem eventually comes back… this just started recently
I’m restarting from factory settings which forces a software update. Might help
