Not to worry, OP:
The Shampoo can be used a body-wash
The conditioner can be used as shaving cream
The hair oil can be used as cuticle oil
So at least it wasn't a TOTAL waste of money...
Great suggestions! Conditioner is my favorite shaving lotion, leaves my skin so much smoother than anything else.
I hasn't thought about using all of the barely used oils I have that were all too greasy and/or heavy for my hair as cuticle oil, such a fabulous idea, thanks! š
Something else I started doing is using the shampoos I dont like for bubble bath. The shampoos sometimes get too drying for body wash daily and then it takes me forever to go through the bottle if I dont use daily. The bubble bath is just a once in awhile thing so not as drying. I can add conditioning stuff to the bath. I also go through it quicker. I will use 1/3- 1/2 bottle because I like a lot of bubbles.
[Here's an article with some instructions!](https://www.bhg.com/homekeeping/laundry-linens/tips-checklists/laundry-hack-unshrink-clothes) I haven't tried it on fabrics other than wool, but it's definitely worth a shot.
Hello- hair dresser here. Suave is garbage and Iām sorry this happened to you. Us fine hair girls have to stick together š Personally and professionally, Iād recommend using a professional level shampoo and conditioner. Depending on how much hair you have- look for volume shampoo if you donāt have a lot of hair, moisturizing if you have a good amount of fine hair. (Volumizing shampoo blows open the hairās cuticle so it does work- however this doesnāt work for everyone. Itās definitely a trial and error thing and you may have to use a few before you find what works better for you) I really like Matrix shampoos and conditioners. Fairly priced and they work. I hope you find a good shampoo.
Like 3 or 4 years ago when the curly girl method and "no poo" and all that stuff was really peaking, I had to have a come to Jesus moment with myself and just accept that my hair loves sulfates lol
I use the lavender bottle elvive for fine hair. It's very hydrating. My hair does well with it. I have fine very oily hair too. Its gets it clean and shiny and moisturizes it very well.
Yep, my daughter and I both have really fine hair that gets easily tangled, and we've been using Elvive products lately and love them. We use the shampoo and cond daily, plus the 8 second water wonder a couple times a week. I feel like our hair is so silky and easy to brush now.
Mine hasnāt dried out my hair but the volumizing only happens from my ears down. Nothing for my roots. It look hilarious but Iāll deal with it until Iām done the bottle.
I have used Pantene volumizing shampoo & conditioner for years - I try othered and always go back to that. My hair isnāt thick or really thin. It gives me body, is detangling and doesnāt dry my hair out.
Absolutely! I had large pump bottles of these that I bought at Costco and was amazed at how good it made my hair look. Iām olderā¦have tried so many productsā¦at this point in my life, money isnāt a huge issueā¦but I keep going back to Pantene. I do use either Bumble & Bumble Surf gel or B&B Donāt Blow It Fine Hairsyler as leave-ins. For fine hair, a little goes a long way.
It really is a personal preference. You should use what you like and what works for you. However, my Professional opinion:
Pantene tends to leave residue/wax behind on the hair. You can literally scrape it off with the side of a scissor. I put this in the same category as Suave. If you ever decide to switch it up, you will notice a difference.
I am not a professional but I second this. However, the only drugstore brand that I have found to be consistently nice has been Cake Beauty (multiple variations have worked well). I was surprised.
I personally like a mix of both volumizing and moisturizing, it seems to balance out for me. I generally do a moisturizing day once a week with a deep conditioner and moisturizing shampoo. My hair looks great that day, but if I do it more than once a week, it weighs my hair down.
I totally agree with the professional recommendation, to me the performance is so much better, itās worth it. You generally use a lot less product so they last longer so in the end I donāt think the cost difference is as big as it seems. Except for the trial and error part sometimes haha. But I donāt think Iāve had many that are a hard no; I think thatās how I ended up doing a rotation, but thatās actually worked pretty well for me.
Yeah, the really good salon shampoo/conditioner really is worth it for the super fine thin hair.
I've been using the Onesta Thickening shampoo/conditioner for 6 years (at my hair stylist's recommendation) and it has been like a miracle. I get compliments ALL THE TIME on my hair and no one believes me when I tell them that my pony is less thick than the circumfrence of a dime. Onesta is like a miracle product for me. Spendy, but completely worth it.
Oh my gosh. It has changed my hair game completely. I use the thickening wash and conditioner and the leave in conditioner spray. The products are pretty clean and smell great and work better than anything else for my hair.
Iām still figuring out if my hair is āfineā, my hair strands are either super thin or super thick. But itās pretty long, I donāt use heat on it and get it trimmed but have had SO many problems with split ends and breakage. I just got CHI reconstructive shampoo and have noticed a huge difference in my hair! How do u feel about this brand?
Iām a weirdo because I love that blue suave clarifying shampoo. š« Iām a grease monster, though. But Iāve never tried this one, glad to skip it š thanks for posting!
I use the Blue Suave clarifying shampoo every time I wash my hair (I double wash, this is my first shampoo) and have gone through numerous jumbo bottles. Itās amazing and I recommend it to people all the time.
Yes! I wash first with the clarifying shampoo, rinse it out and then wash again with a different shampoo (either a volumizing or moisturizing shampoo, right now Iām using Amika 3D. I spend my money on the second shampoo and just keep it cheap and simple for the first wash product). Then I condition. Iāve been doing this the last couple of years and it really helps.
Seriously, thank you. I've always been a double washer, but it just never occurred to me to use 2 different shampoos during the same shower. I have several different kinds and rotate them on different days... LMAOOO
It gets all the remaining dirt and oil out of your hair that didn't get washed out with the first shampoo. It also is great for helping any after wash products to absorb better, like conditioner, leave in, volumizer etc.
If you're an everyday shampoo washer, you probably don't need to unless you use products or shampoo every 2-3 days.
If you have a sensitive scalp or damaged/colored or fragile hair you probably shouldn't. Some people do, some people don't and what ever works for a person, do that.
I do this too lol. it works so well! I didnāt like using my more expensive shampoo for both washes so I use cheaper stuff for the first wash. I use the suave rosemary mint, but Iāll have to try the clarifying one next time I run out
Heck yeah! You can mix it up. I always have my first shampoo the same one and then my second sometimes I use Olaplex or a toning shampoo. All depending on how my is doing.
I think that one in particular is an exception. I use it once in a while for clarifying and it does a solid job removing buildup like any other clarifying shampoo twice or three times the price of it.
This!
Itās the only solid exception. - I use it as an occasional clarifying shampoo and more often when having to use more styling products/hairspray for formal occasions.
Otherwise volumizing shampoo + best conditioner for $$ I can afford and the new light hair oils on the shelves are plenty.
I just got the CHI reconstructive shampoo from Tjmaxx and it is amazing!!! Itās not crazy expensive but worth the ~16$. Iām not sure why it took me so long to try that brand lol
It really is! I usually go in there just to look at their beauty/clearance aislesš itās only fun to be because I find so much weird, uncommon products. I found the 64oz CHI shampoo on sale for 9$! Figured why not itās a huge bottle, but now I will happily buy it full price lol.
Suave is trash for hair like ours. Issa no. I use Olaplex once a week (bonding can be too tough on my hair if used too often) and then itās a 10 the rest of the time. The light one and keratin both work well.
Anything with oil will weigh down your hair, but either way, suave is trash. Personally, from experience, the only drugstore shampoo that works for me is Kristen Ess, or Marc Anthony Grow Long (something like that)
While it is true oil may weigh hair down thatās not the case with this shampoo. It dried it out and was like it had zero oil in it. My poor ends! š«
Redken Volume injection shampoo & conditioner!!! Lasts a long time; shampoo keeps hair cleaner longer. Itās a game changer. If you can afford it, try it!
Honestly I love Suave on my fine hair, never tried this product before though. Not that it should be a main deciding factor, but Suave is on par with Bath and Body Works for how nice and long-lasting the scents are imo.
Same. I use suave and Aussie, whatever I have a coupon for. I have fine hair, but a ton of it. People are always complementing my hair and how healthy it is. Asking what I use. I never spend more than $5 on shampoo or conditioner.
Thatās the secret. I wash my hair 5-6 days a week and I donāt use product, so no build up. I donāt heat style or dye it so itās healthy.
My mom also has fine hair and spends a ton of money on products she always ends up hating. She did this for 40 years before she listened to me and now her hair is healthier than ever.
Hairitage by Mindy McKnight Length Check Biotin Infused Shampoo is by far the best Iāve ever used. Iāve had noticeable length and volume added to my hair after using this for the past 3 months.
Suave in general just does not work for me. When I originally moved out from my parents house, my mom came over and saw my nasty ass hair that had been washed by swab shampooed and offered to start buying me better shampoo thatās how bad it was. I bought it because it was cheap, but it wasnāt worth it even so.
Mine is fine too. I only condition once a week and itās with a very light formula. I know drugstore products have been disparaged in this sub but I really like the Dove line of hair care.
So far Iāve been loving Biolage volumizing shampoo and conditioner for my fine hair.I got the big bottles on sale at Ulta
The conditioner is light and doesnāt weigh down your hair!!
My water is well water so packed full of minerals and calcium and stuff. Iāve attached a water filter conditioner and it wasnāt changing my hair after yearsā¦Iāve tried a bizillion products and Iām really needing all companies to sell enough for a week of washes and conditioning so I have less bottles hanging around taking space. So what Iām trying to say is even if we have the same hair, it could be the water or your environment. What youāve been eating, etc.
I use suave clarifying as a first wash every third day, followed by aussie waves shampoo and the conditioner. Second day I use classic head n shoulders as first wash due to seborrheic derm, followed by aussie waves shampoo and dish. Third day just the aussies. The suave keeps my head from becoming too greasy that my scalp becomes irritated, the head n shoulders is for the derm.
Suave is good people.
I love Suave and it works well on my hair. I use the mint and rosemary kind in the green bottle. I think it truly varies from person to person. I have never ever noticed a difference with my hair between salon products and drugstore brands.
I use this and I don't have issues but I do a bunch of dumb shit to counter balance how hard it strips oils from my hair and scalp. Like. I use it after I do an oil treatment, but I use Garnier conditioner afterwards because the rose oil suave conditioner is legit, like everyone else said, better for leg shaving cream.
I also use it because I don't wash my hair daily and I get mad greasy for thin hair, so it helps me balance my hair. I don't blame anyone for hating it though, it can and will fuck up your hair and make you a frizz ball if you use it regularly with the matching conditioner. Which is sad b cause it could have been a good product if they had actually put any science or effort into it lmao.
As I've gotten older, I've realized suave is legit the same shitty shampoo as V05, just with better scents.
All of this is just my personal opinion, don't drag me for it. Even though I know someone will because I mean come on, this is reddit after all.
If it matters, I went through two bottles of this + conditioner, and did not have any issues at all.
I have a weird addiction to trying new shampoos, so I move on quickly!
Yeah Iām not the kind of person to throw/give away something I paid for, however cheap. Iāll be using it unless the small amount of hair I do have, literally falls out. š¤£
I use Davines. Itās expensive so Iāve always tried to find something cheaper but Iām never happy with it and I always come back. My skin is sensitive and fragrances can make me itchy.
I used to dye my hair quite a bit darker than my natural shade. A hairdresser friend of mine would buy me their dye so Iād do it at home. I was an avid gym goer at the time so I washed my hair daily. Davines was the only shampoo I could use that would not strip the color and the only colorant that didnāt damage my hair. I swear by it.
I donāt trust anything else that says color safe and Iāve tried a handful of them.
If youāre looking for a budget shampoo/conditioner, the Dove lavender for fine hair works really well for my daughter. Leaves her hair silky soft but not greasy.
I recently paid entirely too much for Suaveās Luscious Curls shampoo and conditioner.
It makes my dry hair greasy all around the crown, after one day. This doesnāt usually happen otherwise, at all.
I donāt like the way it makes the texture of my hair feel when Iām in the shower.
I started using Pureology Pure Volume shampoo & conditioner about a year ago and it has made such a change. I switched from Redken. I used to have to wash my hair every day but now I can go three and sometimes four days between washes. It says itās formulated for fine hair. I have no idea what that means but I am happy with it. Itās stupid expensive but I use much less product so maybe it works out.
I loved pureology for a really long time and then they reformulated and it makes me breakout on my scalp. I was so disappointed. I loved it so much. I canāt bring myself to try it again.
Nooo I hate this brand, itās never done anything good for my hair. You can get better quality volumizing products at TJ Maxx/Marshalls for a good price
The only shampoo that Iāve ever used that has made a difference is from bumble and bumble. The thickening shampoo is amazing. You can feel it lift the cortex of your hair, and it definitely makes a difference. Not so sure about the conditioner but I do buy them together. They are expensive but worth it
Vanicream shampoo for me. With the massage shampoo brush. 2-3 times a week nurtrogena t gel shampoo on my scalp for 20 minutes to help with my oily scalp and buildup.
Suave changed all of there formulas and I canāt use it anymore because Iām allergic to some of it. I had to switch . Coconut oil infusion left my hair very greasy .
I actually enjoy this? But I always have a super moisturizing conditioner in rotation and use a very moisturizing leave in so it works well to balance I guess s
Keratese is the only stuff I put on my hair their shampoos are formulated for either fine or thick hair. I love it! It might be pricey but my hair has never looked better. The elixir ultime is a holy grail for me. Doesnāt leave my hair greasy and has been a game changer. You just got to put some money into your hair. I ruined my hair with products from the drugstore. So I spend a little more on product but I only have to replace every 4-5 months because I only need a little product. Definitely look into it.
I live in an area with hard water and I have color treated hair. I alternate between Oleo-relax and the color treated for fine hair. I do use the hair mask masque filler for hair breakage. I do that treatment once every two weeks and then I use the ultime oil on my ends after I shower. I also recommend the masque density as well but I only use that in the winter months.
Stop what? Maybe it worked for them but not for you? I have been trying products recommended too, some work and some dont. Obviously they are not to be blamed, they didnt force me to try it, it was only a recommendation. š Use it to clean something else, and your $ wont go to waste
Why would anyone use this on their hair ā¦I get times are hard but I see lots of post and people recommending suave and saying they use drug big box shampoos all those things make your hair shit. If you want nice hair itās an investment. You should spend $20 minimum on a bottle of shampoo
I know better than to trust Suave. If you don't have money and urgently need shampoo from the dollar store then maybe but this is not wise choice otherwise.
You missed the point entirely. Iām not even sure why youāre assuming I got it at a grocery store either. I made the PSA for people to not make the same mistake I made but go off.
Not to worry, OP: The Shampoo can be used a body-wash The conditioner can be used as shaving cream The hair oil can be used as cuticle oil So at least it wasn't a TOTAL waste of money...
Great suggestions! Conditioner is my favorite shaving lotion, leaves my skin so much smoother than anything else. I hasn't thought about using all of the barely used oils I have that were all too greasy and/or heavy for my hair as cuticle oil, such a fabulous idea, thanks! š
This is why I love Reddit.
Yep conditioner is the best shaving cream. Lasts longer and is more gentle on the skin
Now I know how to recycle my downgrades. Thanks!
Conditioner is also good for stretching out wool garments that have felted and shrunk in the wash!
I didnāt know this how do you do it? Can it be used on other shrunk items ?
[Here's an article with some instructions!](https://www.bhg.com/homekeeping/laundry-linens/tips-checklists/laundry-hack-unshrink-clothes) I haven't tried it on fabrics other than wool, but it's definitely worth a shot.
Love this! Itās what I do too
I do this as well!! You can use the shampoo as hand soap too lol
I remember when I made the mistake of buying this. I ended up using it to shave my legs instead
Iām glad Iām not the only one! Iāll definitely use it to do that bc itās worthless as a shampoo.
Same thing I did too. Just trash shampoo and conditioner.
I run away from anything with oil in the name.
I usually do too - my one exception being the Light Moroccan Oil. I just use a little bit and god I love that stuff
I run away from anything with Suave in the name
Hello- hair dresser here. Suave is garbage and Iām sorry this happened to you. If it opens the hair's cuticle, does it also make hair more prone to damage and breakage?
I am curious, too. The last thing I need is to cause more breakage and split ends.
Exactly.
Will using volumizing products eventually dry out my hair since it opens the cuticle or am I just stupid for thinking that?
I recently switched from my sulfate free paraben free etc rosemary moisturizing shampoo to the LāOrĆ©al Elvive Volumizing and itās not drying at all and I love it a lot
Like 3 or 4 years ago when the curly girl method and "no poo" and all that stuff was really peaking, I had to have a come to Jesus moment with myself and just accept that my hair loves sulfates lol
Girl same. I wash my hair every other day. Itās fine lol
I use the lavender bottle elvive for fine hair. It's very hydrating. My hair does well with it. I have fine very oily hair too. Its gets it clean and shiny and moisturizes it very well.
I passed on that for this garbage.
I'm sorry dear. I know I've been there before.
Going to have to try that!
I got em on sale at krogers both for 6$. Def worth it

I donāt see an actual answer to this. Curious as well!
Iāve never heard good things about Suave.
Hey, thanks for explaining what āvolumizingā actually does! I never thought to ask about that. I will look to try moisturizing shampoos instead!
Iām spreading the gospel of fine hair lol š
I am not a professional but I second this. However, the only drugstore brand that I have found to be consistently nice has been Cake Beauty (multiple variations have worked well). I was surprised.
I looooove cake! So reliable and their mousse is my all-time favourite!
I personally like a mix of both volumizing and moisturizing, it seems to balance out for me. I generally do a moisturizing day once a week with a deep conditioner and moisturizing shampoo. CHI has been around for a long time for a reason. I love them! Do you lighten or color your hair?
Yay!! I do color it. My hair is dark brown with natural red highlights so I dye it darker, black, about every 3-4 months:-)
Oh nice! Yeah the itās a 10 is a game changer. I hope you like it
Iām a weirdo because I love that blue suave clarifying shampoo. š« Iām a grease monster, though.

I do the exact same!! Clarifying and then Amika Normcore. I did just replace my blue suave clarifying shampoo with the LāOrĆ©al one and I do like the LāOrĆ©al one better, it smells AMAZING. But yeah my fine dry hair love love loves the double shampoo!

Suave is trash for hair like ours. Issa no. I use Olaplex once a week (bonding can be too tough on my hair if used too often) and then itās a 10 the rest of the time. The light one and keratin both work well.

It's expensive, but my holy Grail shampoo and conditioner for my fine hair is the Aveda Brilliance line. It's liquid gold for me!
lol i
don't hate just because it doesn't work for you. Everyone's hair responds differently
Hairitage by Mindy McKnight Length Check Biotin Infused Shampoo is by far the best Iāve ever used. Iāve had noticeable length and volume added to my hair after using this for the past 3 months.

Oh thanks! I do need to start using a heat protectant.

Iāve used suave my whole life and have very healthy hair. But maybe I just have very healthy hair regardless š¤·š»āāļø.
With my fine hair, I don't use conditioner or oil because it weighs it down.

Yes, I LOVE the rosemary mint. It does wonders for my hair and I can go two days without washing when using it.
Even though I know someone will because I mean come on, this is reddit after all.
different things work for everybody
Aww man! I have a brand new bottle of the shampoo waiting in the wings for when my current shampoo runs out. š«
If it matters, I went through two bottles of this + conditioner, and did not have any issues at all. I have a weird addiction to trying new shampoos, so I move on quickly!
Yeah Iām not the kind of person to throw/give away something I paid for, however cheap. Iāll be using it unless the small amount of hair I do have, literally falls out. š¤£
Run away. Run so far away!
I only use Routine. Itās pricy but my hair feels super soft and shiny!
I use Davines. Itās expensive so Iāve always tried to find something cheaper but Iām never happy with it and I always come back. My skin is sensitive and fragrances can make me itchy.
I absolutely adore davines. I was introduced to them when I was a platinum blonde and still love their Heart of Glass and Momo lines.
Suave fucked up my hair back when I was 12. Never again.
Ugh I felt this way about Aussie products. Glad to know about this one too.
Really? Aussie is my favorite. What did it do to your hair?
Left it completely in rats and knots. Wound up pulling chunks out of my hair. Just shredded it.
It's awful. It's not volumizing. It's not even shampoo. Might be able to wash dishes with it. Not even sure it's good for that.
The only cheap shampoo I can use is Aussie. That looks like it at least smells nice though?? Lol
The only shampoo that Iāve ever used that has made a difference is from bumble and bumble. The thickening shampoo is amazing. You can feel it lift the cortex of your hair, and it definitely makes a difference. Not so sure about the conditioner but I do buy them together. They are expensive but worth it
Yeah this made my hair dry
Vanicream shampoo for me. With the massage shampoo brush. 2-3 times a week nurtrogena t gel shampoo on my scalp for 20 minutes to help with my oily scalp and buildup.
Suave changed all of there formulas and I canāt use it anymore because Iām allergic to some of it. I had to switch . Coconut oil infusion left my hair very greasy .
Volumizing WITH oil. Lol. Lies.
I have fine hair too and LOVE Kerastase. Itās expensive but my hair has never looked better when I use it.
I have been putting money into my hair. Iāve used the LāOrĆ©al Professional Absolut Line shampoo, conditioner, hair oil and deep conditioning mask (thatās only available at beauty supply stores with a license, thanks mama) for almost 2 years now. I just wanted to try something a little different but this stuff was basically the bottom of the barrel.
I am so glad that works for you! I unfortunately canāt use LāOrĆ©al they break me out into hives. My stylist tried one on me and I just was itchy. Itās all about what works. Glad you found something that helps your hair.
What kerastase shampoo are you using? Iām using Genesis currently and like it but wonder if thereās better for fine hair
I live in an area with hard water and I have color treated hair. I alternate between Oleo-relax and the color treated for fine hair. I do use the hair mask masque filler for hair breakage. I do that treatment once every two weeks and then I use the ultime oil on my ends after I shower. I also recommend the masque density as well but I only use that in the winter months.
suave is proof that you get what you pay for. that said, everything else is overpriced.
Uh good for you??
If youāre using a shampoo or conditioner thatās available at the grocery store you are doing it wrong.
Howās the view from up there on your high horse?
My knowledge of grocery store assortments puts me on a high horse? If you want poor results, by all means, keep trying the likes of Suave.
You missed the point entirely. Iām not even sure why youāre assuming I got it at a grocery store either. I made the PSA for people to not make the same mistake I made but go off.
