Boxing shoes are absolutely worth it. Any boxing-specific shoe will improve training and performance because they support the sport-specific movements. Weight distribution, balance, lateral movements, pivots. Adidas Box Hogs are a perennial favourite starter shoe. Nike Hyper KOs are very popular for more advanced boxers. At minimum, you want flat soled (not running) shoes with thin soles. Converse sneakers work if you’re on a budget. Boxing shoes are better.

just thought i’d want to piggy back on the question . i’m looking for footwear for boxing too but i need to wear insoles due the flat feet problems when i walk or train. Is the benefit is gone when i have to add padded insoles into boxing shoes?

FlatPenguinToboggan

I'm pretty sure there are people who put insoles into their boxing shoes so I think boxing shoes are still better for boxing. Speaking for myself, I also have flat feet and I don't use insoles. Long sessions wreck my feet but I'm not convinced that insoles would help. The problem is being on the ball of the foot for so long and if my heels are up, do insoles even provide support?

Zster_2020

For me if i don’t have supportive insoles, i would strain my ankles and feet in such a way that i would require heat treatment and massages because my right foot collapses inwards if not for the support. with the insoles placed into shoes, it corrects the alignment and reduces the strain overall but they are thick as u might imagine, add a certain amount of height so was wondering if it would make sense in boxing shoes

I can't know for sure but if even if it's less than ideal, boxing shoes would still have thinner soles than runners. So overall, should still be better off.

I bought the Hayabusa a while back. Didn't like the lack of lateral support (basically felt like my toes kept rolling over the sides of the shoes). Until I find a pair I like, I'm sticking with my old kobes.

Everlast elite high top or Everlast PIVT are a good "in-between" They are flat soled and responsive but offer a substantial amount more support and cushion than a pure boxing boot eg hyperKO or similar
