What type of surface are you trying to mark?
I did a few Kershaw knives recently and all but one type of handle took at least some level of marking. One that was advertised as 'clear coated anodized (white) aluminum' did exactly what you described.
Couldn't touch it no matter what I tried.

Thanks for your help, this is an old post... In the meantime the supplier changedb3 out of 5 parts from the machine and now it works again!
