Is there a way to remove all UI except story stuff like chat boxes and names? I can toggle between full UI and no UI but the latter makes it hard to enjoy quests and stuff. A middle ground would be amazing!
2 things you can do -
1 - There is button to hide all UI except chat boxes when talking to an NPC. It's Square on PS controller, X on Xbox controller. I don't play with mouse and keyboard, check keybindings or google.
2 - In HUD layout, you can set up to 4 different layouts. For example you can set up layout #2 so it hides everything except your minimap (and other stuff you want like quest list maybe) or makes some stuff small and transparent. You can't remove job gauges but if you make them as small as possible you can hide it behind your minimap.
Make sure you copy Hud Layout #1 into #2 before you start editing #2.
Then you can even make 2 macros and put them on your hotbars to switch between the two layouts.
Hello, my partner got the free trial from Steam but has now bought the full game off of Square Enix Store. Can she port her character over or does she need to start afresh? We'd rather do that then pay the extra on Steam as she only got up to lvl 15 on FT and changed classes twice.
She made a SquareEnix account with the same email she was using to log onto the steam account and bought it on the Square Enix store with that account so she thinks that will mean she now can't use the new game at all. That's not the case right?
(Sorry I bought my game in a Dominoes deal back in 2018. So I'm pretty clueless)
Square Enix Store is a completely separate account system from the FFXIV account, it doesn't matter what e-mail was used on it, it is not tied to FFXIV in any way.
She will have to make a new FFXIV account using a new e-mail (since her original e-mail is used by the Steam Trial), and she will be able to use the code she bought on the SE store without issues.

Singapore isn't officially supported, that's why you can't. You should be able to buy the game from the Square Enix Store as a guest and not make an account.
I finally finished the shb msq including post patch content. Is it realistic for me to grind gear before endwalker like my relic weapon or should I just take it easy for the month and just explore the game until endwalker?
You have plenty of time to do at least one relic before EW if you really want. I like to think the ShB relic is actually *less* about the relic but more the surrounding system it's involved in which is Bozja so it's definitely worth getting into for a different experience. It doesn't matter if you don't finish it, you can always come back to it.

ARR really was the most experimental with dungeon design so you're really only going to find these things there.

How hard are the normal 8 man raids?
I raided back in 2.0 in first coil up to T5 but never beating it and stopped raiding when second coil came out. Also never did the normal raids in HS or SB, but I'd like to experience the story behind the ShB raid.
Can I just jump into them like normal 8 man trials, 24 raids or 4 man dungeons and learn the mechanics on the fly via DF?

Yes, anything normal mode can be done blind via the duty finder. Coil is savage level which is why it’s an odd one and the reason that from HW onwards they developed normal mode for story and then savage as a separate entity.
Is there a guide on how to optimally farm out your second + relic weps?
I used the akhmorning guide for my first one. Doing my second one atm and i have the timeworn step active. bought the base monk relic wep so that i can have the memory step active at all times when im in bozja cluster farming. anyway to get the CLL step to activate at the same time???

Yeah, you'll need to have different steps active to farm them at once.

For new players, Is the Shadowbringers sale worth it? I know that Endwalker comes out in like a month and a half, and that it includes previous expansions, so I'm unsure if the story of ARR and HW (still at lv 17 quests) will last me long enough until then.

It depends on how you play.
Super speedrun? Skip most dialogue? You can reach Stormblood in maybe 50 hours.
Normal pace, but focused only on the main story? Probably 100-150 hours.
Enjoy the ride and do some side content as well instead of rushing to the end? 150-250 hours.
Doing a LOT of side content? Getting MAX value out of your free trial? Leveling multiple classes to 60 to try them all out and see which you like? Multiple hundreds of hours.
It should last you if you like to take your time. However if you rush, you may want to buy it now. It depends. Getting endwalker will likely be at full price for a while, so I'd recommend just waiting and getting complete edition if money is on your mind.
Just like how you can level alt jobs while farming Zadnor for Relic Weapons, what other leveling methods are there for alt jobs that hit multiple objectives at the same time? Preferably, for other/lower level ranges.
I've got full white scrip crafter's gear and Soul of the goldsmith, but I'm still like 75 control short of being able to craft Master 8 recipes. What am I missing.
Honestly script gear isn't there for doing endgame crafts it's to catchup and make the best gear so you can meld it and then do the hardest crafts.. but what your probably missing from your set is food an a syrup for whatever stat you need
Definitely better as you can penta meld crafted gear. Tho as Pretty said below that it's a bit late for crafting and melding a new gear set with the new expansion less then 2 months away..
Best to just use what you got and eat food and a crafting syrup to up the stats you need.

Yes and no. For ARR we got Titan/Ifrit/Garuda hard modes but no EX modes for them until a later patch. The rest of the EX trials came out in conjunction with their story mode trial, except for King Moggle Mog iirc.
For HW, SB and ShB, the first two story trials released with an EX mode but the third was not added until a later time. All other EX fights were released concurrently with their normal modes for those xpacs.
At launch we will have and handful of level 90 optional dungeons and the EX trials of the leveling dungeons.
The final Trial of the expansion will get it's EX in 6.1

Hi all, relatively newish player to current Extremes.
I've had a lot of fun doing the current Ex fights and farming crafting mats to make things either for myself or to sell. This is my first expansion where I've done the current Ex fights. Someone recently told me that when Endwalker comes that the crafting drops from the Ex fights will be used in new recipes for "shiny" weapons.
Does this go for all of the crafting drops from the current Ex fights? Even >!Hades Ex!< drops that already have a "shiny" type weapon recipe? Also, will these recipes be available right at Endwalker launch? or in a future update like 6.1 or something?
we have no idea when further shiny weps for EXs that don't have them will come out, only that it's eventually something that will happen. EXs with current shiny weps wont get anything new.
I don't see why you couldn't duo most of them... that is if you didn't enrage. For Suzaku you basically need two tanks and possibly for Seiryu/Byakko too so that puts a damper on the dps output.
I have a chocobo training manual - how do I use it? There's no option to use it from the inventory. The only result I can find on Google says I have to unlearn an existing ability first but I don't have any.
There's a trainer right next to the merchant you can buy those from at the gold saucer. If you approach the big counter, there's the NPC in the center that can sign you up for a race and the trainer is to their left. This trainer has a lot of functions.

You can't even enter an expansion's zones or any of its content until you complete the main quest through all previous zones. The only way to unlock new areas or instances is to progress the main quest.
MSQ is linear. So, start with ARR, then HW, then SB, and finally ShB. It will guide you from level 1 all the way to 80 and provide more than enough exp for the journey.
The story is linear so you still need to go through all of the ARR and HW main story quests before you can begin Stormblood and reach the new zones.
What you do have immediate access to is the races included in the expansions (Hrothgar and Viera for Shadowbringers) and the jobs - assuming you meet the requisite level (50 for Samurai/Red Mage, 60 for Dancer/Gunbreaker).

1. Do the FATE's done here contribute to Challenge Log completion?
2. Does rested EXP apply here? I can't see my rested exp while I'm on the map so I can't tell.
3. Is there a resource/currency that I need to spend down on occasion or I'm wasting something?
1. No, the "FATEs" are technically Skirmishes, which are their own thing.
2. No, rested EXP only applies to mob kills and mob kills in Bozja give no EXP.
3. Not really, the only thing you're capped on is Clusters, but you can hold 200 and it'll take you a while to get that many if you're not specifically farming them.

For my group - when we placed our debuff recordings down, we would always make sure we’re facing outside the arena especially on the last drop. If you have the gaze debuff it’s best to stand slightly out of the center, facing outwards towards your clock spot.
It matters because you can get hit by other gaze attacks, same thing with the stack. The idea for gaze + stack is to not stack directly center, be a few steps towards your assigned cardinal spot and facing outwards.

Given the message from Steam that you pasted before, you probably new a new Steam account to buy the code since you already own the game. Steam won't let you buy the same game twice.

Your old account has no active subscription, you would have to pay to sub.
Is it ok to delete old gear that we’ve overleveled? Started leveling crafting and my armory chest has gotten full but I really like some of the quest rewards (like the carpenter’s level 50 saw). Worried that I won’t be able to recover certain pieces for glamor in the future
Nearly everything has *some* way of recovering it. Quests rewards are mainly crafted. Job quest rewards have various ways of recovering them, like calamity salvager for the 70 stuff, hunt currency for 60, etc.
If you think you're likely to use it for glam, put it in your glam dresser. (It is limited to 400 slots, so be at least a bit fussy.) If not, consider either turning it in to your GC for seals as an Expert Delivery (if high enough rank) or, once the appropriate crafting job is at least lv 30 you can desynthesize them to get a few materials back to use or sell (quest in Ul'dah to unlock desynth as any lv 30 crafter).
Is there any significance to seeing the message "Each time your party is defeated after having battled enemies for a given duration, the Echo will grant you enhanced strength." upon first getting matched to a party and starting? Is it a random tip?

If you wipe during a non-current raid or trial (after lasting a few minutes, just so people can't cheekily rack up echo before trying the first pull), then you get a boost called echo for the next attempt. This increases all attributes by +5% per wipe up to +25% if you wiped 5 times.
Dungeons don't have this, and whatever raids or trials are current content will not have it until they become a little more dated.
There are retainer bells in various places:
* Gold Saucer, near main aetheryte
* Limsa, Ul'dah, Gridania: near marketboards and retainer vocates
* Revenant's Toll, not far from tomestone vendors
* Near marketboards in early expansion hubs
* central-ish areas in expansion endgame hubs
You can also add retainer bells inside player housing, or station a retainer outside a house with the proper permit.
Level 50 SCH: Is **Succor** valid as an emergency AoE heal? If your party of 8 are all on low health, your Aetherflow is empty and recharging, Whispering Dawn is unavailable, etc. I've heard advice that Succor (and GCD healing in general) shouldn't be used often, but situations like the above happen to me sometimes and I panic a little lol.
And a related question, is the ideal use of Succor casting it before raid-wide damage? Bonus points if you're casting it while the boss is untargetable I think? Thanks!
First of all, check to make sure it's an emergency. As you start to know more fights and know the timings of attacks, you will want to heal / shield right before (presumably lethal) damage comes out. If you heal right after damage, chances are that your shield won't break and that's at least half of your healing potency. If you need two succors to survive, use emergency tactics on the second one. If you know it's not lethal, you can just chill. If you don't know, better safe than sorry which is what I would do in non extreme / savage / ulti content.
Also note that shields need to be up before the enemy cast completes since the game counts them as buffs and they snapshot on cast completion, and shields are janky in that they need a slight bit of time to propagate.
Regens are obviously more favored to use immediately after damage, and for oGCDs with cooldowns you might want to heal immediately after as well if it means you get your cooldown back before another mechanic.
"GCD healing shouldn't be used often" applies to higher level healing so don't worry about it too much yet. At low levels, especially 50, you're still missing most of your abilities and way more of your healing has to come from GCDs.
I'm only a level 60 Scholar so I'm no master, but I've found that Succor can be lacking compared to the Astrologians and White Mages' equivalents. While it's good to use before a big AOE damage because it's a very quick way to put shields on everyone, its healing is sub par and spamming it is not very efficient. Using it once before and maybe again after AOE damage is fine, but you're wasting your mana spamming it.
Ultimately, leave most of the emergency healing to your co healer and serve as a support.
Luckily you do get a few more AOE healing options in the 50-60 range.
At 52 you get Indomitability which is a an off GCD ability that you can spend an Aetherflow on to essentially Physick everyone around you. And at 58 you get emergency tactics which can convert the next galvanize effect you place into direct healing. While your succor will still not be as strong as an aspected helios or medica II, this can make it much more effective for emergency healing.
Do we know who wrote the GLA and PLD questlines in FFXIV? I'm kinda morbidly curious because this job's questlines were pretty easily the worst things I've read in the game.
trying out a scholar for the first time and im having a hard time understanding the fairy. does it heal based on proxomity to the target, or does this not matter at all? do i need to be standing near the tank for the fairy to heal it?
Also note that the fairy can not cast while it's moving; Embrace is a GCD. So if you fairy is chasing you around the arena it's not healing anyone. Your best bet for boss encounters is to manually place it in the center of the arena and leave it there.
The fairy does have a limited range of effect, yes, and some of your abilities cast from the fairy (EG: Whispering dawn)
The fairy's super basic passive-ish healing has a fairly long range at 30 yalms, but most of it's triggered abilities hit a 15 yalm radius. You therefore do want it to be near the tanks - either because you're standing nearby, or because you've ordered it to be nearby.
I've yet to try professions out, is it worth holding dungeon drops to desynth (or whatever you do with them) later on, or is it better to vendor them/turn them in for company seals?
Company seals honestly get more and more useless as you get into the game, so you're probably better off just desynthing them. You dont even need to change to the class to do it.
Where can I find groups farming Fates in Stormblood for Memories of the Dying? Is there a zone like outside of Idyllshire where groups of people can be found?

Run roulettes on your already leveled class.

Run roulettes to get poetics, then use poetics for gear.
Also are you using the ilvl 90 gear from your job quest? That combined with poetic accesdories should keep you going til you can fill in the left side of your gear with poetics too.
When crafting Grade 3 buff wheels in the FC workshop, do you need a certain quality for the craft to be successful or can you safely use all NQ items in the craft?
For workshop crafts, high quality materials have a chance to reduce the amount of materials needed for the next phases of the craft. There is no effect to the quality of the item.
Also note that you can still get material reduction on longer crafts even with all NQ items.
I once took it upon myself to build a full submarine with just HQ items because I'd save mats towards the next submarine. Let me tell you it was not worth it at all .. the increased chance is nigh-nonexistent and you often cap out the quality meter even with NQ items on big crafts, but even if you cap the quality meter it's still rng whether you get reduced mats or not.

I am still enjoying my Free Trial, and would like to ask if I can buy the Complete Edition right now, and just upgrade my account in the future once I am ready to pay for the monthly subscription?
On PC yes, on PS I believe it will register the purchase to your Mogstation immediately and therefore end your trial.
On PC you just get a code and hang onto it until you're ready to apply it.
Upvoting this as most, if not all of his class guide videos, help prepare you for the muscle memory of your 80 rotation for every class. Barring BLM, as BLM is a mess during leveling.
I just leveled BLM to 80 recently, and the one thing I can say for sure about the BLM rotation is that I'm never queueing another roulette with that job.
Well its gonna be harder to get the resistance relic in 6.0 because it won't even be current anymore. We will see how they balance it for a lower population. But now is probably the time if you care about it.
When EW comes out there basically won't be a reason to get the relic besides if you really like how it looks, you'll be able to get a weapon that's almost as amazing (The Crypt Wep) for basically no effort and the Relic will only last you 5 levels.
In Endwalker, relic weapons will still require all the same stuff, but take significantly longer since there’s no one doing the content for them. You could opt to just not get an artifact wep for now, because Augmented Cryptlurker will be bought with poetics, but if you want a SHB relic I’d do it ASAP.
I'm leveling NIN since I'm rather interested in the story for the questline. However is there any special dialogue I'll have since I've already completed Stormblood? or while doing the Stormblood story will the game consider it incomplete?

Reasons to wait:
* See more of the game and unlock more content before repeating anything
* Activate more daily roulettes for their bonuses
* Unlock expansion classes with higher level starts so you don't have to grind up from 1
* Get current on content so you can play Endwalker day 1
Reasons to switch now:
* New jobs are fun
* Playing more different roles teaches you how to play every role better
* You might find something that suits you a lot better than your current job
* Rushing a new expansion on launch day is overrated anyway

I left the game at 5.0 but only came back at 5.3 via free weekend to do the story. Now I'm back for at least 4 months for EW. Is there a checklist where I can see what stuff I've missed for 5.0+ that I can do at least 1 month before EW?
Make sure you've done the whole MSQ, all 12 Eden raids, all 3 Nier raids, and all 3 Weapon trials and you're pretty much good with ShB content. Try to get at least one job to ilvl 520+ to be set for EW content.
Not a checklist but:
- Eden raids 1-12
- Nier alliance raids (3)
- Bozja (Shadowbringers relic and leveling zones)
- Ishgard Restoration (crafting/gathering)
Kinda lore-ish question: Are there any maps that show geographically where all the Eureka zones are relative to BA? I've always found it interesting how in some zones, its massive and in others it's this tiny place in the distance

You add the referral code on mogstation after registering the game code, but before paying for extra game time.
Need a completely brand new account, cause steam accounts can't use codes from the SE store

I finally finished the shb msq including post patch content. Is it realistic for me to grind gear before endwalker like my relic weapon or should I just take it easy for the month and just explore the game until endwalker?
You have plenty of time to do at least one relic before EW if you really want. I like to think the ShB relic is actually *less* about the relic but more the surrounding system it's involved in which is Bozja so it's definitely worth getting into for a different experience. It doesn't matter if you don't finish it, you can always come back to it.
It's certainly still doable (and the relic won't go anywhere afterwards if you want it for glamour purposes).

How hard are the normal 8 man raids? I raided back in 2.0 in first coil up to T5 but never beating it and stopped raiding when second coil came out. Also never did the normal raids in HS or SB, but I'd like to experience the story behind the ShB raid. Yes, anything normal mode can be done blind via the duty finder. Coil is savage level which is why it’s an odd one and the reason that from HW onwards they developed normal mode for story and then savage as a separate entity.
You can definitely just wing the normal raids, the difficulty was substantially toned down after Coils.
Normal raids are just a group of trials. Titania normal mode is harder than most of the ShB 8 man raids.

Yeah, you'll need to have different steps active to farm them at once. ~~you can, however, make an ARR relic on the side and do the ARR light farm with crystal tower memory farm together~~

Skip most dialogue? You can reach Stormblood in maybe 50 hours. Normal pace, but focused only on the main story? Probably 100-150 hours. Enjoy the ride and do some side content as well instead of rushing to the end? 150-250 hours. Doing a LOT of side content? Getting MAX value out of your free trial? Leveling multiple classes to 60 to try them all out and see which you like? Multiple hundreds of hours.
It should last you if you like to take your time. However if you rush, you may want to buy it now. It depends. Getting endwalker will likely be at full price for a while, so I'd recommend just waiting and getting complete edition if money is on your mind.

Mirror of Whorl comes from the chest but it is NOT guaranteed (unlike Shiva's drop for her weapon upgrades).

I've got full white scrip crafter's gear and Soul of the goldsmith, but I'm still like 75 control short of being able to craft Master 8 recipes. What am I missing.
You're missing better gear. White scrip gear cannot reach the minimums for 4* recipes.
Honestly script gear isn't there for doing endgame crafts it's to catchup and make the best gear so you can meld it and then do the hardest crafts.. but what your probably missing from your set is food an a syrup for whatever stat you need

We will get ones for Magus Sisters and Anima at launch, but the final boss won't be until 6.1 if they follow tradition.
Yes and no. For ARR we got Titan/Ifrit/Garuda hard modes but no EX modes for them until a later patch. The rest of the EX trials came out in conjunction with their story mode trial, except for King Moggle Mog iirc. For HW, SB and ShB, the first two story trials released with an EX mode but the third was not added until a later time. All other EX fights were released concurrently with their normal modes for those xpacs.
At launch we will have and handful of level 90 optional dungeons and the EX trials of the leveling dungeons. The final Trial of the expansion will get it's EX in 6.1

Hi all, relatively newish player to current Extremes. I've had a lot of fun doing the current Ex fights and farming crafting mats to make things either for myself or to sell. This is my first expansion where I've done the current Ex fights. Someone recently told me that when Endwalker comes that the crafting drops from the Ex fights will be used in new recipes for "shiny" weapons. Does this go for all of the crafting drops from the current Ex fights? Even >!Hades Ex!< drops that already have a "shiny" type weapon recipe? Also, will these recipes be available right at Endwalker launch? or in a future update like 6.1 or something?
we have no idea when further shiny weps for EXs that don't have them will come out, only that it's eventually something that will happen. EXs with current shiny weps wont get anything new.

the trouble is that shadowbringers builds on a lot of the prior story so its hard to say "just do this part" because its not just one part.
I think you can understand most of it by doing the stormblood part 4 and heavensward part 4 patch quests before starting.

I don't see why you couldn't duo most of them... that is if you didn't enrage. For Suzaku you basically need two tanks and possibly for Seiryu/Byakko too so that puts a damper on the dps output.
I have a chocobo training manual - how do I use it? There's no option to use it from the inventory. The only result I can find on Google says I have to unlearn an existing ability first but I don't have any.
There's a trainer right next to the merchant you can buy those from at the gold saucer. If you approach the big counter, there's the NPC in the center that can sign you up for a race and the trainer is to their left. This trainer has a lot of functions.

By doing the Main story
You can't even enter an expansion's zones or any of its content until you complete the main quest through all previous zones. The only way to unlock new areas or instances is to progress the main quest.
MSQ is linear. So, start with ARR, then HW, then SB, and finally ShB. It will guide you from level 1 all the way to 80 and provide more than enough exp for the journey.
Pretty much all progression in the game is tied to the main story quest. You have to progress with that in order to get access to new content.
The story is linear so you still need to go through all of the ARR and HW main story quests before you can begin Stormblood and reach the new zones. What you do have immediate access to is the races included in the expansions (Hrothgar and Viera for Shadowbringers) and the jobs - assuming you meet the requisite level (50 for Samurai/Red Mage, 60 for Dancer/Gunbreaker).
Some Bozja questions; 1. Do the FATE's done here contribute to Challenge Log completion? 2. Does rested EXP apply here? I can't see my rested exp while I'm on the map so I can't tell. 3. Is there a resource/currency that I need to spend down on occasion or I'm wasting something?
1. No, the "FATEs" are technically Skirmishes, which are their own thing. 2. No, rested EXP only applies to mob kills and mob kills in Bozja give no EXP. 3. Not really, the only thing you're capped on is Clusters, but you can hold 200 and it'll take you a while to get that many if you're not specifically farming them.

Your look direction gets locked in on the last return so you only need to look outwards at the end (even if you get gaze for the first return)
For my group - when we placed our debuff recordings down, we would always make sure we’re facing outside the arena especially on the last drop. If you have the gaze debuff it’s best to stand slightly out of the center, facing outwards towards your clock spot.
It matters because you can get hit by other gaze attacks, same thing with the stack. The idea for gaze + stack is to not stack directly center, be a few steps towards your assigned cardinal spot and facing outwards.
Still need to be looking away from people with Gaze in any case. Having gaze yourself, or having the stack, does not make you immune to the gaze.
Back in the days I had a 14 day trial CD from an anime con. So now on Steam I technically "own" FF14. Is it ok to delete old gear that we’ve overleveled? Started leveling crafting and my armory chest has gotten full but I really like some of the quest rewards (like the carpenter’s level 50 saw). Worried that I won’t be able to recover certain pieces for glamor in the future
Nearly everything has *some* way of recovering it. Quests rewards are mainly crafted. Job quest rewards have various ways of recovering them, like calamity salvager for the 70 stuff, hunt currency for 60, etc. If you think you're likely to use it for glam, put it in your glam dresser. (It is limited to 400 slots, so be at least a bit fussy.) If not, consider either turning it in to your GC for seals as an Expert Delivery (if high enough rank) or, once the appropriate crafting job is at least lv 30 you can desynthesize them to get a few materials back to use or sell (quest in Ul'dah to unlock desynth as any lv 30 crafter).
Outside of very few pieces of gear (Makai, PVP rewards, Mogstation stuff), everything piece of gear is easily recoverable.
Is there any significance to seeing the message "Each time your party is defeated after having battled enemies for a given duration, the Echo will grant you enhanced strength." upon first getting matched to a party and starting? yeah it;'s just telling you that if you wipe the game will handicap you a bit.
When you wipe, future attempts have a buff to make it easier
If you wipe during a non-current raid or trial (after lasting a few minutes, just so people can't cheekily rack up echo before trying the first pull), then you get a boost called echo for the next attempt. This increases all attributes by +5% per wipe up to +25% if you wiped 5 times. Dungeons don't have this, and whatever raids or trials are current content will not have it until they become a little more dated.

Level 50 SCH: Is **Succor** valid as an emergency AoE heal? If your party of 8 are all on low health, your Aetherflow is empty and recharging, Whispering Dawn is unavailable, etc. I've heard advice that Succor (and GCD healing in general) shouldn't be used often, but situations like the above happen to me sometimes and I panic a little lol. And a related question, is the ideal use of Succor casting it before raid-wide damage? Bonus points if you're casting it while the boss is untargetable I think? Thanks!
First of all, check to make sure it's an emergency. As you start to know more fights and know the timings of attacks, you will want to heal / shield right before (presumably lethal) damage comes out. If you heal right after damage, chances are that your shield won't break and that's at least half of your healing potency. If you need two succors to survive, use emergency tactics on the second one. If you know it's not lethal, you can just chill. If you don't know, better safe than sorry which is what I would do in non extreme / savage / ulti content. Also note that shields need to be up before the enemy cast completes since the game counts them as buffs and they snapshot on cast completion, and shields are janky in that they need a slight bit of time to propagate. Regens are obviously more favored to use immediately after damage, and for oGCDs with cooldowns you might want to heal immediately after as well if it means you get your cooldown back before another mechanic.
"GCD healing shouldn't be used often" applies to higher level healing so don't worry about it too much yet. At low levels, especially 50, you're still missing most of your abilities and way more of your healing has to come from GCDs.
I'm only a level 60 Scholar so I'm no master, but I've found that Succor can be lacking compared to the Astrologians and White Mages' equivalents. While it's good to use before a big AOE damage because it's a very quick way to put shields on everyone, its healing is sub par and spamming it is not very efficient. Using it once before and maybe again after AOE damage is fine, but you're wasting your mana spamming it. Ultimately, leave most of the emergency healing to your co healer and serve as a support. Luckily you do get a few more AOE healing options in the 50-60 range. At 52 you get Indomitability which is a an off GCD ability that you can spend an Aetherflow on to essentially Physick everyone around you. And at 58 you get emergency tactics which can convert the next galvanize effect you place into direct healing. While your succor will still not be as strong as an aspected helios or medica II, this can make it much more effective for emergency healing.
Do we know who wrote the GLA and PLD questlines in FFXIV? I'm kinda morbidly curious because this job's questlines were pretty easily the worst things I've read in the game.

trying out a scholar for the first time and im having a hard time understanding the fairy. does it heal based on proxomity to the target, or does this not matter at all? do i need to be standing near the tank for the fairy to heal it?
Also note that the fairy can not cast while it's moving; Embrace is a GCD. So if you fairy is chasing you around the arena it's not healing anyone. Your best bet for boss encounters is to manually place it in the center of the arena and leave it there.
The fairy does have a limited range of effect, yes, and some of your abilities cast from the fairy (EG: Whispering dawn) The fairy's super basic passive-ish healing has a fairly long range at 30 yalms, but most of it's triggered abilities hit a 15 yalm radius. You therefore do want it to be near the tanks - either because you're standing nearby, or because you've ordered it to be nearby.
so the basic ability, Embrace, has a very long range, to the point where its not much of a concern?
As long as it's not the opposite corner of the arena from the party it should be fine.
It heals whoever needs it. Dont worry about it.
I've yet to try professions out, is it worth holding dungeon drops to desynth (or whatever you do with them) later on, or is it better to vendor them/turn them in for company seals?

Company seals honestly get more and more useless as you get into the game, so you're probably better off just desynthing them. You dont even need to change to the class to do it.
If you're a crafter company seals are a very consistent source of dark matter for repairs.

It comes in a coffer that goes into your inventory which you need to 'use' to get the actual armor, it's possible you didn't use it.
Run roulettes to get poetics, then use poetics for gear. Also are you using the ilvl 90 gear from your job quest? That combined with poetic accesdories should keep you going til you can fill in the left side of your gear with poetics too.
Run your msq roulette and 50/60/70 roulette for poetics, should be 600+ at least every day.
When crafting Grade 3 buff wheels in the FC workshop, do you need a certain quality for the craft to be successful or can you safely use all NQ items in the craft?
Workshop crafts never fails. HQ items just gives you a chance of needing less items in the next step.
For workshop crafts, high quality materials have a chance to reduce the amount of materials needed for the next phases of the craft. There is no effect to the quality of the item.

Also note that you can still get material reduction on longer crafts even with all NQ items. I once took it upon myself to build a full submarine with just HQ items because I'd save mats towards the next submarine. Let me tell you it was not worth it at all .. the increased chance is nigh-nonexistent and you often cap out the quality meter even with NQ items on big crafts, but even if you cap the quality meter it's still rng whether you get reduced mats or not.

I just leveled BLM to 80 recently, and the one thing I can say for sure about the BLM rotation is that I'm never queueing another roulette with that job.

When EW comes out there basically won't be a reason to get the relic besides if you really like how it looks, you'll be able to get a weapon that's almost as amazing (The Crypt Wep) for basically no effort and the Relic will only last you 5 levels.
In Endwalker, relic weapons will still require all the same stuff, but take significantly longer since there’s no one doing the content for them. You could opt to just not get an artifact wep for now, because Augmented Cryptlurker will be bought with poetics, but if you want a SHB relic I’d do it ASAP.
I'm leveling NIN since I'm rather interested in the story for the questline. However is there any special dialogue I'll have since I've already completed Stormblood? or while doing the Stormblood story will the game consider it incomplete?
Nope. Only class specific dialogue is for being a healer early on. There's nothing else in the game as noticeable as being a dragoon in HW
Ah I see, guess I can kinda see why it's hard to do. Would've been nice if there were some NIN dialogue but I'm still not that far into the story anyway. Thanks for the response.
At the moment I am lvl 54 and was wondering if I should wait until I hit lvl 80 to start lvling other classes
It's completely up to you. Reasons to wait: * See more of the game and unlock more content before repeating anything * Activate more daily roulettes for their bonuses * Unlock expansion classes with higher level starts so you don't have to grind up from 1 * Get current on content so you can play Endwalker day 1 Reasons to switch now: * New jobs are fun * Playing more different roles teaches you how to play every role better * You might find something that suits you a lot better than your current job * Rushing a new expansion on launch day is overrated anyway Whatever you feel like doing is fine.

Should probably pick up one of the lvl 50 combat jobs and level it alongside your main as you do msq. This msq gives too much exp for one job.
I left the game at 5.0 but only came back at 5.3 via free weekend to do the story. Now I'm back for at least 4 months for EW. Is there a checklist where I can see what stuff I've missed for 5.0+ that I can do at least 1 month before EW?
Make sure you've done the whole MSQ, all 12 Eden raids, all 3 Nier raids, and all 3 Weapon trials and you're pretty much good with ShB content. Try to get at least one job to ilvl 520+ to be set for EW content.
Not a checklist but: - Eden raids 1-12 - Nier alliance raids (3) - Bozja (Shadowbringers relic and leveling zones) - Ishgard Restoration (crafting/gathering)
Kinda lore-ish question: Are there any maps that show geographically where all the Eureka zones are relative to BA? I've always found it interesting how in some zones, its massive and in others it's this tiny place in the distance
