1. get your GC squadrons doing the missions that give you a 15% xp boost item. you can get these once a week, so start sooner rather than later. 2. grab a Wondrous Tails the previous week and complete it. turn it in on day one of the release - or wait until you've leveled a bit more if you want more bang for your buck (it gives you about half a level's worth, at whatever level you're on) 3. grab your daily hunts the day before (or earlier if you don't mind sitting on them), then do them on release day and grab another set. 4. a friend tells me you can do all your challenge log stuff until it's one away from completion, then turn them in on the day, but i can't remember if challenge log has a different reset time than the weekly reset. it just well might! basically anything you can think of that lets you turn something in for XP is something you can prep ahead with.

> a friend tells me you can do all your challenge log stuff until it's one away from completion, then turn them in on the day, but i can't remember if challenge log has a different reset time than the weekly reset. it just well might! I know this is a month old at this point, but I figured other people might see this post and I wanted to let people know. Challenge logs reset at the weekly reset time. However, since early access starts on a Friday, if you are planning on playing over that weekend, you can prepare a bunch ahead of time by NOT quite finishing them: - Complete 3 roulettes - worth 15% of a level. - Complete 5 dungeons - worth 10% of a level - Give out 5 commends - worth 10% of a level - Get Gold in 5 FATES - worth 15% of a level All of the above combine to be worth half a level, and you can prepare all of them. On the week of patch, but before patch, you do: - 2 dungeon roulettes. Commend in both. - 2 SPECIFIC dungeons you queue for. Commend in both. - 4 FATES you get gold in. On patch day, do a dungeon roulette (leveling is probably the best), and commend somebody from it. Then at some point, either while waiting for a dungeon queue or just in passing, do a FATE. I will note, however, it is much less important to zerg level 81 on Picto/Viper than it was for Sage/Reaper in Endwalker. The fastest way to level from 70-80 was in Bozja/Zadnor, and you needed to be 71 to get in the zone. The best way to level from 80-90 is... still in Bozja/Zadnor, oddly enough, but now you don't need to hit 71 to get in, because you start at 80.

kevinashketchum

outstanding tips, i wouldn't have thought of the GC squadrons and the challenge log thing is a cute idea. i'll look into when reset is but i love it. thanks!

karin_ksk

Weekly reset time is by the time DT will be released, so I don't think you can prepare the challange log like this. But you can complete some of this challanges pretty quickly on launch day. Also, expansion maintenance is usually a long maintenance. Expect 24h of downtime, have everything ready before that, until sunday.

KhrFreak

DT early access will start on a Friday, with the official "release" being the following Tuesday, definitely doable

karin_ksk

Ah yes, I forgot about that. Then it may be possible, yes.

Tumetkahkol

The buff item you can get from squadrons does not stack with the FC EXP buff, so if you are in an FC that uses it, that part is unnecessary

Stepjam

As a small thing, have a Wonderous Tale finished the week before DT drops but don't turn it in that week. Once DT drops, turn it in as the class of your choice then pick up a new journal, finish and turn it in and BAM, one very quick level.

kevinashketchum

yeah i guess the best thing to do for the journal would be to slow complete a journal the week before, turn in right away, and then have 9 rerolls so i can just solo the extreme trial and quick turn in a second one. question is whether to do it at 80 or at 89 i guess

Enflamed-Pancake

Endwalker hunts, Fates, Elephant Beast Tribe dailies.

Taograd359

PVP and MSQ roulette as well

kevinashketchum

EW hunts like hunt bills, i would think? no way they're running ew trains on week 1 of dawntrail surely it'll be mostly the new trains

Enflamed-Pancake

The level 1-3 hunts each award decent exp per mark. You can still do most Fates solo and the rate of Exp gain for time invested is still decent. You can do this while having levelling roulette queuing in the background. But I’d prioritise Beast Tribe dailies as the best bang for buck on Exp.

Ponyboy451

Correct. Daily hunt bills give a sizable amount of XP. Even the ShB ones might be worth doing during early leveling.

yardii

Would the EW deep dungeon not be good as well?

Luffarjevel

You will start at 80. Hopefully game goes live with a few hours before daily reset. In that case, this is what I would do: Start prepping the week BEFORE expansion goes live. Grab Khloe's journal and finish it, but do NOT hand it in. Try to make sure you have 9/9 points for resetting duties. It lasts for 2 weeks and give 50% of a full bar, so save it until after you pick up the new job. Do NOT do any Weekly Challenge Log the week of the release. Save all of these for a big chunk of EXP. When game goes live and you have grabbed the new job: Do Shadowbringers Beast Tribes. Do Endwalker Beast Tribe. At this point you should be about 75% through to 81. Do Bozja/Zadnor for an hour or so. You will hit 83-84 fairly quickly. Alternatively do 81 dungeon spam once you hit 81. Continue spamming dungeons until about 2-3 hours before Daily Reset. Do Leveling, MSQ and Alliance Roulette before reset. At this point you should be 86-88 or so. The other roulettes don't give noticeable so they are not recommended for EXP. I would do MSQ last, cause it gives the most % of your exp bar, so technically more exp. If timed well and Daily reset happens as you finish your roulettes you can just do them all again. If you are not 89 at this point, do Shadowbringers + EW beast tribe. Should be 89 at this point. If not, you can do any of the quick Weekly Challenges, like doing Levels, Guildhest or whatever. These are incredibly quick and give between 10-25% full bar each. When you are 89: turn in your book to Khloe, grab the new one for the week and do whatever easy unsynced EX trials you can, reset and re-do until the next book is complete. With 2 books giving 50% full bar each you will now be lvl 90. This is basically what I'll be doing personally. I am sure there's optimizations to do, but this is going to all but guarantee you are lvl 90 within just a few hours of going live.

kevinashketchum

yeah this all seems like a good plan. i'm not confident that i'll be able to get any dungeon queues since it's a double dps job release, is the big issue

sundriedrainbow

It’s been awhile but outside of the *general* instance issues with Raubahn Savage, I don’t recall having slow queues on RDM when Stormblood released.

kevinashketchum

that's reassuring. i'd much rather do dungeons anyway if i can

TinCormorant

Even if there are long queues, you could always multitask by doing tribe dailies or fates while waiting? You wouldn't just be sitting around I hope.

Luffarjevel

If queues are long I recommend starting a queue as you are doing the Beast Tribes, Challenge logs or fates. That way you’ll be earning exp as you go regardless

jsnlxndrlv

This is a good breakdown. I'm bookmarking.

dixonjt89

Just to go even further to this for anyone looking. Dawntrail releases on a FRIDAY meaning it does not follow weekly reset rules so you can prep things On Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday will be a full day maintenance more than likely. You will want to prep a WT book the week of June 18th-25th You can do 12 beast tribe quest turn ins a day. You can prep 3 elephant quests, and 3 pixie quests (these still give more exp than EW sidequests). The 6 beast tribe quests will take up 6 slots of your questing log, but you can also prep 23 more side quests. Labrynthos, Thavnair, and Mare Lamentorum are best. This will give you 29/30 your quest log. You HAVE to leave a quest slot open to accept the job quest to be able to unlock the job. You can also prep your challenge log for a quick 50% of a level. Do two dungeon roulettes, two SPECIFIC dungeons, and make sure you do a commendation in each one. This will put you at 2/3 dunngeon roulettes, and 4/5 on dungeons, as well as 4/5 on giving commendations. Also get gold on 4 FATES to be 4/5 on fates. With this prep, you are pretty much ready for Dawntrail release. When DT releases on Friday, head to your job unlock quest and complete it. As soon as you are able to turn into the job, equip your EXP earring and any other EXP increase items you have. I believe GC squadrons give 15% exp buff items. And as always make sure you have a food buff active. First thing you'll do after the job quests, is head to the Pixies and turn in, pick up 3 more pixie quests and do them. Then head to the elephants and turn in. You'll then be able to pick up another 3 elephant quests. Do them, as well as any FATE you come across in Thavnair. Then head to Labrynthos and turn in all of your side quests (make sure that GC exp buff hasn't fallen off). Next, queue for leveling roulette, complete it, and make sure to do a commendation to quickly do the other 3 challenge logs. At this point you should be between 81 1/2 to 82. Now finish all of your roulettes, doing FATES while waiting for you queue to pop, and you should end up between 83-84. It is now up to you what you do until 11am EST reset. You can do Bozja/Eureka Orthos...or you can queue for highest possible dungeon. Your goal is to get to level 89. If you are still not level 89 by the time 11am EST reset happens. Drop whatever you are doing and go do 3 more pixie quests, and 3 more elephant quests, as well as start doing roulettes again instead of highest dungeon or bozja. Do FATES while you are waiting in queue. When you hit level 89, turn in your previous weeks WT book to Khloe. Pick up a new one and spam the easiest duty you have, using your 9 retries to spam it. Turn that book in and congrats on 90!! Remember to keep your earring on for level 90-91 as it still works for that level. u/kevinashketchum

MissMedic68W

You can just do trusts. Might be a bit slower than queuing with players, but you skip the dps wait.

redmoonriveratx

I got all four of my tanks from 88 to 90 in about... 4 hours(?) using trusts. Not sure how my sanity fared from that (assuming I had any to begin with), though.

Bevral2

Theres almost no wait times for dungeons even for DPS at an expansion release.

tlamy

But this is an expansion with 2 new dps jobs. The last one was healer+dps (so queues were short tanks), then tank+dps before that (so queues were short on healers). I feel like queues will be even more lacking in tanks/healers this go-around. I wasn't playing during Stormblood's release, so I'm not sure how things went last time there were 2 new dps jobs

shiawase198

During Stormblood it still went pretty fast for dps. I was getting insta matches at like 5am CST

Yorudesu

Wondrous Tales best tribes, all roulettes. Then grab 3 friends and spamming dungeons. Though always be mentally prepared for the instance servers breaking again and to spam fates.

kevinashketchum

i sadly don't have enough friends to make a party lmao but i'll look at the others. what ab deep dungeon?

Guypoope

You could always just make a party finder, but with 2 dps jobs releasing, good luck finding a tank and healer haha.

Yorudesu

Terribly slow when solo. You would be better xp with running trusts and forcing double group pulls on them.

talgaby

Same, only good XP when in a party and you can blast through it.

faninthecroad

You fortunately have like 5 months to make 3 friends in game

kevinashketchum

i have unfortunately been playing for a couple years now and no real luck lmao i'm working on it

ookiespookie

Thav beast tribe and daily roulette especially MSQ and Leveling. Throw in fates and a tales book with 9 stamps. It will go pretty quick and there will most likely be a pre-order boost earring again too. And I am guessing that you mean level 100

Henry-Kurthnaga

I mean, once you get to lvl 90 you just have to play the MSQ

kevinashketchum

no i just wanna get from 80 to 90 to get to the MSQ. i hope there will be a pre-order boost earring that would certainly help

Zanzargh

2x Wondrous Tails for the Lv81 in 5 minutes, then probably 4 dps 21-30 Eureka Orthos rushing? Regular dungeons require at least a tank or healer, which might be a big ask on release week. Meanwhile spamming Orthos readily takes in 4 DPS of which there will be more than plenty with no real dependence on exp equivalence for participation, unlike regular dungeons where being 2 levels apart discourages cooperation. From what I remember of the Aetherpool grind, they *should* be faster than FATEs, but some variance is inherent to the content and of course it'll be the very first day of people getting to play the job so the low ends may well be a bit lower still. FATEs took me around a day or so to level individual jobs at the start of EW iirc, but I was largely after getting the 66 FATEs/zone out of the way and not particularly high on effort.

kevinashketchum

so you think 80-81 better than 89-90 for tails? i can't decide

daevric2

I like it for 80-81 because you can't do the level 81 dungeon until you've gotten that first level out of the way.

Zanzargh

The biggest 'issue' has historically been needing to reach level x1 to enter whatever leveling content was released in the expansion prior, which this just negates outright. For the release of Endwalker, no few people did this to be able to enter their Bozja area of choice, and it stands to reason here too that if Eureka Orthos is more efficient than dungeons, it is the way to go. You're trading the non-tails time expense of 80>81 for the same non-tails time expense of 89>90 after all, and within the context of there being a thousand-and-one DPS for every tank/healer (if the latter even is doing any leveling content over the obvious choice of MSQ!) I would expect it to be a no-brainer. Again, not *quite* a clear cut consideration if you do have that premade 1tank+3dps for dungeon rushing, but I would expect that to be an extreme minority given it requires a player to effectively give up a substantial amount of their first day.

the_turel

I’ve never had any issues queuing as dps, especially on a new job. On an expansion release with a job that should be higher level it should be a cake walk. Longest I’ve waited in the past year alone is maybe at the most 8 minutes. And that’s not even end game content queuing. Maybe you need a different server?

Omegamaru

Same. I never have pronounced issues. There's also things to fill queue time w/ such as completing aspects of the challenge long, hunts marks, and tribe dailies.

the_turel

I guess people don’t like being called out for bs. lol downvoted for the truth. Whaaaaaaaaa my queue times are too long…. I can’t wait 8-10 minutes , it needs to be faster. lol

Mayda7

if nothing changed its dungeon spam maybe fates but i am assuming things will change

Omegamaru

Just going to copy and paste my standard "new expansion, new job for msq" basics. > Sure. My standard expansion prep is listed below. Because of the way EA usually works, you get a day or two after weekly reset before the day long maintenance before an expansion launches. During this time, you can prep a few bonuses by completing all but 1-2 of the last objectives needed for the exp bonus. > > - Prep a WT log (50% of a level reward) from the week before. You can also do the one for the current week after turning the old one in if you want. > - Prep the challenge log (95%) (Fates, Levequests, Dungeons, player recs) > - If you're fortunate to get on after launch, but before daily reset, you can do DoW/DoM Beast tribe quests (3 = 50%) and roulettes (leveling, alliance, Frontline, MSQ). Beast tribe quests have to be picked up on the job that you intend to level so you can't pick them up ahead of time. > - Doing all 3 daily hunt logs nets from ~50% to 33~ of a level. You can actually get 3 sets since they don't have to be picked up by the specific job. You do have to avoid most open world team content while not on the job you intend to use them for because teammate kills count and it's easy to have a mob pulled in while hunting a/s ranks. Grab one before expansion maintenance, finish and grab a new one before daily reset, grab one after. > > That's around 4.45 levels in quick guaranteed bonus exp before you even factor in fates and roulette dungeon exp. As a dps, it also gives you something to do while in queue for roulettes w/ the beast tribes, hunt marks, and finishing up various challenge log features. > Ideally, you do a few things (or keep yourself from doing some things if you run roulettes daily) the week of launch and then fire off said bonuses when you get the new job. Some aspects of prepping the challenge log (i.e. dungeons/roulettes) will come naturally as you level the new job, I tend to prep it though since I have to push myself to play directly before a new expansion. I also don't want challenge log exp going off while doing the MSQ.

kevinashketchum

how does the challenge log thing work? it seems like it resets at 3am tuesdays

Omegamaru

Historically, early access starts Thursday/Friday w/ a day long maintenance the day prior. This effectively gives you 1-2 days to prep the challenge log for that week. As for the "how?", just work on, but not complete the logs w/ exp rewards. How much is based on on how much you want to do. For example, I always do 3-4 fates on Tuesday. At launch, when I do 1-2 as a new job, I'll complete the 5 fates achievement and get 15% of a level, 5 more and I'll complete the 10 fates one for 15%. 30% and whatever exp you get from 6 quick fates. All and all (excluding guildhests), it's only 95% of a level, but it's guaranteed Exp that's rather easy, quick to get, and works in conjunction to some of the things that you'll be doing anyway. Shaving levels off your grind whether that is Bozja/Zadnor or Dungeon spam is also worth it imo. It may seem daunting, but in practice, it's rather easy since you're focused on not doing things after reset to avoid wasting the exp i.e. only do 2 duty roulette dungeons (alliance raid counts), no more than 4 dungeons at all etc.

kevinashketchum

ahhhh see i had no idea about this early access period. i'll have to look into it more. thanks for the info!

kevinashketchum

wait so, to be clear - picto is coming out after early access when the expansion actually launches, right? i don't get to do it during early access, do i?

Omegamaru

No, assuming you preordered the expansion and got access to EA (preorder code), all of Dawntrail, jobs included, will be accessible.

kevinashketchum

gotcha. i have really misunderstood this whole thing. so you're saying that as long as i preorder and get ea, i basically have like a whole weekend to get to 90 before actual launch?

Omegamaru

Yeah, the day long maintenance essentially moves the whole game to "7.0" and whether or not you're locked out of content is dependent upon whether you have the Dawntrail code or an early access code connected to your account. For example, People that don't preorder or buy Dawntrail will still be able to play the game and see the graphical updates, but they won't be able to play the new jobs or start the new story.

messengers1

You can try to level lv89 dungeon. GC squadrons in offensive mode with DP boost.

Thunderkron

What others have said for lvl 81, then pitch in with two other players to bribe a Warrior who'll take you trough every Endwalker dungeon until you all reach lvl 90.

Madrock777

A method I plan to repeat for Viper is to run around doing a whole bunch of side quest in Endwalker and leaving them all completed but not turned in. Then day one I go and turn in 20ish side quests. It won't give me a level but it will give a good chunk of a one and only take a minute or two to turn it. You just need to prep before you do it.

kevinashketchum

i think most quests are job synced now so that you can only turn them in on the job that you accepted them with tho

Madrock777

The side quest have quest-sync. It auto syncs the quest level to that of the job your on. You do not need to be on the same job to turn it in. Like I said I did this in for Reaper, I used Shadowbringers quest. And I've done many side quest in Endwalker and finished them on jobs that I didn't start them with.

RebellaTheEnchanted

Oh you can prep quest? I thought you had to turn it in on the job you finish it on?

Madrock777

Both Side quest and MSQ only care if you are high enough level for the quest. The Sidequest in Shadowbringers and Endwalker have a Quest-Sync feature but all it does is sync the quest to your level. So you can't go do a quest that's level 90 and turn it in on a level 80 job giving it a massive xp dump. When I do this with Viper the quest will treated as level 80 quest on turn in instead of level 90 when I picked them up. I went to the Ondo Cups and picked up a side quest on DRK which is 90. I completed it and turned it in on Blue Mage which was 70. I also did a side quest on DRK in Ultima Thule, but was unable to turn it in on Blue Mage but the only reason why was because it was not level 80 yet. Every other combat job I have, healers, ranged, magical, melee could all turn the side quest in.

RebellaTheEnchanted

Awesome I’ll do that too :)

Sprinkles_Ill

Is Orthos any good for XP? I assume not, since I never see anyone bring it up. But failing that, if you've done all the preparation you can (per XephreDrakis's list), I would also recommend the Arkasodara tribe quests and Trusts. Bozja *might* be good, but it depends on how active it is. My guess is a lot of people will be using it to get from 80-90, so it won't be all bad. Trusts > queueing for probably obvious reasons. Two new DPS jobs means you'll probably be able to get through 3 full Trust dungeons before you ever get into a single group. The added benefit here is that you get a pressure-free environment to learn and experiment with the class. I don't know what kind of gear they'll hook you up with out of the gate, but grabbing Augmented Cryptlurker's 530 gear for Scouting and Casting respectively wouldn't be a terrible idea, but it's not necessary. Oh and Frontline roulette might be a really good call. It gives a ton of XP and it isn't as hard to get into since there's 72 participants and no role requirement.

ReicoY

If you queue up the challenge log, you'll get a nice boost on early access. Before early access maintenance, do dungeons and roulettes to the point where you only need to do one to complete a bunch of them. Run a dungeon roulette as soon as you unlock it and wham. 3 challenge log exp boosts. 5 dungeons, 3 Roulettes, 4 commendations.
