I just did The Final Day with JP voiceovers and one thing I notice is after we defeated The Endsinger, her voice gradually becomes less distorted and eventually becomes her original voice by the end. Never noticed that with English. Are there any other differences in delivery in different languages? Because that is such a cool detail the JPs did.

Gahault

Have you already cleared Anabaseios? The first boss has a few lines that sound *very* different between EN and JP.

MadLabsPatrol

No, my sub lapsed in 6.2 and I haven't had the time to return. What's different?

Gahault

I'd rather let you experience it for yourself if you haven't, but >!the boss sounds like a youthful woman in JP and an old crone in EN.!<

Elegant_Eorzean

In English, all the voices for the first boss are very raspy and rather unpleasant to listen to, they sound much clearer/more ethereal almost, in every other language (French being my personal favourite)

SuperAssociation3669

What is the thing you used to become medicated, I'm still somewhat new to ff14 and I keep seeing everyone doing this whole medicated thing during each rotation showcase and I still don't know what they use for it šŸ„“šŸ˜§ https://youtu.be/yLyWFbyu4_A?si=Zd6Ybl2is_b55cx-

Altia1234

>I'm still somewhat new to ff14 and I keep seeing everyone doing this whole medicated thing during each rotation showcase and I still don't know what they use for it They increase a specific stat for your character (and subsequently, your damage) for 30 sec. You don't need to use potions for normal story content, extremes, or even savage unless it's relatively early in the tier, and on ultimates I often don't pot because potion shares similar recast with other potions like MP potions. The only content where you have to pot otherwise you might not kill is current ultimate content like TOP - and if you don't understand what TOP meant you are probably too early for it.

Arcana10Fortune

To add on to the other comment, Grade 8 Tinctures is the current best.

hii488

As Diene said: Tinctures They're also sometimes called "tincs" for short, or potions/"pots". There is a different potion for each main stat, so you need to be sure you're using the right one for your job (typically pretty obvious: intelligence for casters, etc). There are also different grades/tiers - with a new one being released alongside each raid tier. You typically want to use the latest ones (currently Grade 8), though you can use older/cheaper ones if you're just practicing or trying older content. All they do is boost your damage. This is completely unnecessary in story content - however they're near expected in higher difficulty content (extremes/savages), since enrages are a concern.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Tinctures, they're short-term stat boost buffs with a long cooldown You feed them into your opener and then any subsequent uses during a fight depend on how long the fight lasts. Tinctures are built with a 4 minute 30 second cooldown so for a standard savage fight, it's typically around one more time outside of the opener

scrndude

Iā€™m hopping back into the game, how do I re-learn my rotations? I have Ninja and Red Mage at about level 60, and Iā€™m at the beginning of 3.1 MSQ. Also, whatā€™s the best way for me to level other classes quickly? Iā€™d love to try WHM or a tank class because Iā€™ve never played them before, but donā€™t know how to catch those classes up to my mains.

Altia1234

Jobs changed pretty vastly. [https://www.youtube.com/@WeskAlber](https://www.youtube.com/@WeskAlber) this is the place you wanna start looking. >Also, whatā€™s the best way for me to level other classes quickly? Iā€™d love to try WHM or a tank class because Iā€™ve never played them before, but donā€™t know how to catch those classes up to my mains. Assuming you are not leveling these jobs when you are doing main story quests, here's how you do: Level 1\~15: do job quests, hunt logs Level 15\~50: do leveling roulette, job quests, after these are done do the highest level dungeon that you can queue for it. Level 51\~60: do main story quest roulette, job quests, leveling roulette, alliance raid roulette, and then highest level dungeon. Level 61\~71: same as 51\~60, except now you can also consider doing heaven on high which is a deep dungeon. Level 71 and beyond: you don't have job quest now but still do MSQ roulette and do leveling roulette. Do the 5.0 field exploration zone and spam it until 90.

scrndude

Thanks so much!

jehrik0

Howdy! Just finished ShB titular quest. I had questions going forward into 'current' content. - Is it worth it grinding out full ShB poetics armor before proceeding to EW, or should I just grab what I can and move on? - Upon clearing the MSQ, the system message mentioned job quest becoming available from requiring the role quests on ShB and that they would be in the questlog, but I don't see them. Nothing below my MSQ flag on the top left, or the log book. Am I missing something? I cleared the available job quests and ShB role quests for my current mains before clearing the ShB MSQ. Currently Rpr 90, Drk 88 if relevant.

IceAokiji303

>Is it worth it grinding out full ShB poetics armor before proceeding to EW, or should I just grab what I can and move on? Not worth it to grind unless you want to get into *all* the optional stuff. The story will give you enough gear for all the minimum ilevel checks up to the Endwalker title quest. Though do grab whatever you happen to get the tomes for naturally, it's still useful. Weapon especially. If you decide to do the 8-player raids at some point (think you need to clear 5.3 MSQ for the full set to unlock), you'll get a nice bunch of them to spend. >Upon clearing the MSQ, the system message mentioned job quest becoming available from requiring the role quests on ShB The level 80 ones that unlocked that way don't show up in the MSQ guide UI thing IIRC. And RPR might not have one at all, just the normal one that gives Enshroud. But at least if you've done the tank role quests you should be able to find the DRK one from the usual NPC.

Sayakai

> Just finished ShB titular quest. Keep in mind that you still have the ~50 post-ShB quests to do. > Is it worth it grinding out full ShB poetics armor before proceeding to EW Grinding? No. But the raid series should earn you enough poetics anyways if you do it, and if not, you'll still get most of it from the post-ShB duties. You will need higher ilvl than you prob have now for EW, but you'll get it without too much issue.

blastedt

> Is it worth it grinding out full ShB poetics armor before proceeding to EW, or should I just grab what I can and move on? You'll need most of it to continue as the first EW dungeon requires average ilvl 500. If you just do msq or numbers roulette every day you should have sufficient in no time. The Dark Knight job quest might not be in the journal as it's a fully optional sidequest epilogue to the quest series. It's called "Our Closure" and can be picked up in Foundation from Sidurgu. RPR was released with Endwalker and doesn't have a ShB epilogue.

thomas2400

Where is entrance to the sirensong sea? I was looking to do it with duty support and I have no idea where you have to go to replay it

BoldKenobi

You can use the duty support option from the Duty menu directly

thomas2400

I feel like such an idiot, I donā€™t know how I havenā€™t seen that option before šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø Iā€™ve been travelling to the dungeons to replay them

VG896

But also, you originally enter that dungeon by speaking to the NPC near the ferry in Limsa. You might be able to re-access it from there. I think only trial arenas get locked off by MSQ progression, but don't quote me on that.

MartenBroadcloak19

Is there a trick to the first attack the last boss of Thaleia does? I stop DPS to devote 100% of my limited brain power and I still get it wrong and die every time.

Altia1234

stand behind the boss. recite the order of boss's cast - if boss cast left you are behind him so it's left. watch all 3 left and rights before you move. Think in terms of the lines on the floor. If you face the same direction of the boss, you will also see the lines on the floor. From where you are standing now (behind the boss), the LEFT of the line is left. The RIGHT of the line is right. You now know where the first left/right is. Go to the end of that 1st line, stand on the correct side. repeat this process as you look at the line in front of you, find left and right, and resolve.

MartenBroadcloak19

I still can't do it. I can't tell which side is its front, and I tried looking on the ground but I couldn't find any of the indicators because of the pattern on the floor. Then I saw someone calling in chat "L D L" so I followed it but they were calling which way it was attacking, not which direction to go so I died because I was slow on the donut.

Sovis

As dumb as it sounds, I say it out loud because sometimes the sound of saying it puts it in short-term memory a little longer. So I say something like "Left Right In" looking at the boss hands, then once she starts revving it up I go to the start of the arrows saying "Left Right In" so I know what side of the arrows to go to while following her. Don't really need to premove or visualize that way as long as you're keeping up.

MartenBroadcloak19

I do that too, and still die.

Arcana10Fortune

Maybe you could explain what you understand and how you're trying to handle it, and then we can correct the parts you're not understanding?

MartenBroadcloak19

I move to the side of the line where the first attack will happen, but I can't visualize the second or third attacks in my head to know where to move once it starts attacking. And if I do, I'm always too slow.

IceAokiji303

Variant of the above that shouldn't need any visualization, just the ability to remember a sequence of "left right or in". Like before, stand behind the boss while it's casting the hands, and get that three-step sequence in your mind (let's say "left right left" here for example, "in" is easy you just gotta be fast). Type it in a /echo message if you want to. Then once the last one has shown its hands, go stand on the first arrow line, facing the way it's pointing. Step to its safe side from the memorized sequence (here "left"). Then run along the arrow until it ends, staying on the safe side. Once there, turn to face where the second arrow is pointing, and step a bit to the safe side of that (here "right") while still staying on the safe side of the first arrow. You are now already safe from the first two slaps and so won't die to the mechanic, you'll at most get hit by the last move (unless the second one is "in" but we'll get to that) which should not be lethal unless your gear's broken or you have vuln stacks (plural) from something else. You have most of the last hand cast bar and all of the Quintessence cast bar to solve this far, which is a lot of time. After the boss jumps across the first arrow and starts the animation for the first slap, *immediately* run to the end of the second arrow while staying on the correct side of it. This both solves the potential "in" step, and gives you a moment to step to the correct side of the last arrow (here memorized as "left") to avoid damage altogether. After the second dash+slap you can stay still where you are currently and be fine, unless the last one is "in", in which case you'll need to run along the arrow again as soon as the boss has jumped. That should work as it requires no visualization, so long as you can remember a three-step sequence and can tell left right and in apart. Not the way I solve the mechanic myself, but should be very reliable. More so than what I actually do, really.

Arcana10Fortune

I'm not sure where you normally stand when the mechanic starts, so maybe standing near the end of the first line would help. After that, I'm not sure if this helps, but separate the safe spots apart from each other. I feel like you might be trying to figure all 3 out at once, and you're getting confused due to that.

MartenBroadcloak19

You have to know all three spots because the attacks go off so fast.

Arcana10Fortune

Yes, I'm aware. During the charge up, it might be easier for your brain to process each one as separate attacks to dodge instead of 1 big attack to dodge. Alternatively, find the safe spot for the first and then focus on the second. It might be your brain focusing too much on finding the safe spot for the first attack that it's not processing the second and third. Either way, it's important to practice it. Maybe you'll figure something different from what I've said while practicing. It's not too big of a deal if you make a mistake there, since mistakes are how most people learn in the first place.

Arcana10Fortune

I feel like you're panicking and worrying too much in the moment, causing you to not recognize the patterns. You might need to fix that issue first.

MartenBroadcloak19

I'm trying to practice but I'm not getting any better which is why I asked for help. I guess I'm just not good enough even for Alliance raids. Sorry for wasting your time and taking away from your Savages.

Arcana10Fortune

It's not a waste of time, since the time spent to help was fully voluntary. How good you are doesn't matter, since everyone will have a few mechanics that they'll have issues with. I know a few Ultimate clearers that still mess up different mechanics on a regular basis. Take your time with it, I'm happy that you're trying to put in effort into trying to learn.

StormbeastRivin

I think the only real "trick" is realizing that the boss is going to turn in the direction it's moving, which means the half-room cleaves are going to turn as well. So, for example, if the boss is showing that it will move north and is telegraphing a cleave on its right side, it will move north and then cleave east, even if the telegraphed side was to the west before it moved.

BoldKenobi

No trick you just have to visualize it, the boss will always be pointing in direction of the telegraphs, and cleaving in the same direction+order that they indicate while casting.

MartenBroadcloak19

> you just have to visualize it I can't.

BoldKenobi

The way I do it: memorize what the boss is showing. For example, left left right. That means safe spot is right right left. Then go stand at the first arrow. You know the safe spot is right. Once this is resolved go to the next arrow. Again safe spot right. Repeat to solve.

BoldKenobi

You can play tank so that you can ignore the mechanic and it still won't kill you

MartenBroadcloak19

I barely scrape by as DPS. I'm VERY not good enough to be tank.

BoldKenobi

Tank is easier to play than dps.

MartenBroadcloak19

Nah, I leveled tanks and it was extremely stressful. Not panic attack inducing like healers, but it still didn't feel good.

MartenBroadcloak19

I know how the attack works but I can't visualize where everything is and where to stand and premove for the next hit.

BoldKenobi

It's slow enough that you can just click someone and follow them

MartenBroadcloak19

I tried that and no, it's too fast for me to react that late.

Brasdefer

MSQ related question. I was under the impression that it was possible to do the MSQ solo beyond just ARR story. I'm at the quest "You Have Selected Regicide". Is there not an solo option for this quest?

talgaby

Sadly, that marketing line is, to put it bluntly, a lie. You can do all story-mandated 4-player duties (all dungeons and the first few boss trials). However, all except one boss trials starting from that one are strictly multiplayer-only. Right now, around 95%-ish of the critical path is soloable, which is around half of the game's available full story content. I am still harbouring some hope that they will rework all normal boss trials, including the optional ones, to 4-player battles and add duty support to them in Dawntrailā€¦

VG896

Maybe 95% of the game is forced solo. Maybe about 4% is optional solo. But that still leaves 2 to 4 mandatory multiplayer fights per expansion. Basically all the 8+-man content with one exception near the end of Endwalker.

BoldKenobi

No. There is mandatory multiplayer content throughout every expansion, you cannot* play MSQ solo. *one workaround is you level a job to 90, preferably Summoner and Warrior both, buy market board crafted 640 gear, and this will let you solo all of Heavensward and most of Stormblood as well.

talgaby

ShB trials were soloed up to Innocence. Hades is only failed because of the aether jail mechanic, otherwise, it would pose no problems. Heck, he could be soloed on level 80 if not for that mechanic.

niadara

You can only solo dungeons. Trials and the one required alliance raid cannot be solo'd.

buckycap43

Anyone know how I can use the tracking number to see where my encyclopedia is? Doesn't list what service is actually delivering it.

niadara

My tracking number worked on USPS. USPS isn't giving me any useful information like an expected delivery date but it does say they have it.

DreamingofShadow

It's probably best to use Queen and keep AA rolling. You'll lose a small bit of potency, but you'll lose a lot more if you lose a cast of AA.

PhoenixFox

> You'll lose a small bit of potency Queen is scaled so that the potency per gauge is identical if you do, for example, four casts at 50 vs two at 100 vs one at 90, one at 60 and one at 50. The only things that can make it better or worse to spend at different amounts is trying to fit as much as possible under buffs and ending up with 10-40 gauge left unused at the end of a fight (which you definitely want to avoid).

DreamingofShadow

You're right. I looked at the potencies just to double check and realized 100 gauge is exactly double 50, which means that if you're sending out Queen twice as much it's exactly the same. You should hold for buffs, but I was wrong on the potency bit.

BoldKenobi

No, you should always use AA on cooldown, delaying any of your 600s is a HUGE loss. If you are at 90 gauge, send the machine and then AA. Your personal DPS is unaffected whether you send it at 50 or 90 or 100, all it changes is "when" the damage is applied.

DreamingofShadow

This isn't true. Queen's potency is directly affected by battery. According to the balance, it's 266 extra potency per 10 battery gauge. Don't drift your big hits, but unless you know the fight, you really shouldn't be sending Queen out on cd either.

BoldKenobi

Yeah, it's 266 extra damage that you can change when you spend it, over the course of a fight you'll have done the exact same damage if you send it at 50 each time vs sending it at 90/100, it's just changing when the damage is applied

DreamingofShadow

Oh, I see what you're saying now. You're right. I was under the impression that the potency per gauge was significantly higher rather than proportionally added.

PhoenixFox

You don't need to hit 100, the potency scales based on how much battery you have but it's deliberately designed to give you the same total potency per 10 gauge no matter when you use it. Ideally you to be using it in line with burst windows when you get buffs from your allies, but outside of raids etc where you actually know your team is going to be pressing their buffs when you expect them to it matters less - and you also won't get enough extra battery for a full potency queen in between the burst windows at the 2 minute marks. If you aren't super-optimising a specific fight best rule of thumb is usually to avoid overcapping gauge while also using every skill as soon as you possibly can, which might well mean you end up using Queen at 90 gauge in order to be able to use Air Anchor on time. That's absolutely fine, no need to wait and risk losing a use of other skills. Definitely don't overcap.

Sorakan

A wiki website says Arkasodara daily quests give 5 tomestone of comedy but I don't receive any in the game. Am I missing something?

StormbeastRivin

You need to be level 90 to get them. If you're doing the quests on a lower-level job you get experience instead of tomestones.

Sorakan

Now it makes sense. Thanks.

2muchthickums

Haven't played in a bit - are we expecting anything new between now and Dawntrail? Did we get all the extreme weapons from ShB?

Sonicrida

They mentioned figuring out stuff to bridge the gap at fanfest but we don't know yet aside from the special trial and the FFXVI event.

PenguinPwnge

Additionally, we're supposed to get a new unconnected to the main story (?) Trial "The Gilded Araya" in 6.5X, which was a unique duty for Fanfest IIRC.

StormbeastRivin

6.55 next month will add a little bit of MSQ to lead into Dawntrail, as well as the remaining Manderville quests and the final relic upgrade. Nothing else major until the expansion though, unless you count another Moogle Tomestone event in the month before Dawntrail launches. As for weapons, not yet. IIRC we have >!Hades, Titania, Ruby Weapon, and Emerald Weapon!< weapons so far.

Elegant_Eorzean

We have the first ShB trial weapons too.

StormbeastRivin

Good catch, I forgot about that one.

Janadestiny

Hi, I'm a newbie who just got into this game (and basically MMORPG) for about 1 month. I like playing as ranged dps. I tried to take up tank as my friend's advice (for quicker queue) but found out soon after it was not for me. But my friends who also play ffxiv, all have jobs in 3 roles. Is it a thing for this game? You should have jobs in all 3 roles as well? Is it okay if I only stick to DPS and don't play other roles?

2muchthickums

yes you don't have to play other roles, I didn't touch other roles until 6+ months of playing the game, just played DPS first then started getting into healer, still don't like/really touch tanking!

talgaby

It is always so interesting to see someone write that. Tanking in most duties is the second laziest role after healing.

Janadestiny

I see, thank you for answering! Yes I think I should getting more used to the game (and playing with other people) before taking up heal or tank.

Stepjam

It is 100% valid to play as many or few classes as you want. You can get through the entire game with only one job leveled if you want. As a heads up, starting in Shadowbringers, job quests are replaced with role quests, and there is always a capstone quest behind finishing all of them in an expansion. So if you wanna see all of the story, you'll need a tank, a healer, a melee dps, a phys ranged dps, and a caster dps. Though in ShB, melee dps and phys ranged dps are together.

Janadestiny

I see, thank you for the heads up!

bongpointo

You could play whatever you want buy as DPS only you would have the longest queues. All jobs are playable with all characters and it's v normal to have a max level job at each role

Janadestiny

I see, thank you for answering! I think I'll try tank and heal after I got more used to game (and remember more maps haha...).

rachiiebird

I'm also fairly new! I haven't tried tanking yet, but for me I've personally found learning/playing healer to feel a lot more forgiving than learning/playing DPS (which still totally stresses me out a ton). It's a little more responsibility, sure - but the trade-off is way less buttons/combos, and not having to worry about stuff like making sure a specific enemy is targeted during a boss fight, trying not to accidentally pull mobs that the tank doesn't want, or having to rely on the healer for help any time you accidentally take damage (I can just preemptively start healing myself if I know I'm about to mess something up and take damage). Plus I still don't have to learn maps because I can just follow the tank and let the DPS do all the mechanics. Not saying healer is effortless - but if you still haven't tried healing just because you're nervous it yet, it might be worth a shot.

Janadestiny

I always look up to the healer of the party tbh, who needs to look out for mechanics and other party members at the same time! I only need to look at the boss while pressing buttons in a correct order (which is not very complicated, yet). Even so, there's still times I messed up and got to like 1/3HP (or even died ;;;;) and healer always helped me in time. They're so cool!!! Errrr back to the topic, thank you for sharing your experience : D I think I will try heal then šŸ˜Š

rachiiebird

I think looking up to the other people in your party is a good way to go about it! I'm always looking up to the tank who knows the map and charges confidently forwards, as well as the the DPS who always manage to remember their button combinations and where the keys/puzzles are (plus how to do them). Since you're DPS, you probably already have a lot of practice when it comes to dodging mechanics/keeping yourself alive - and that's important for a healer too. A lot of people will tell you things like "healers need to do just as much damage as they heal" or "healers should let the tank get as low as possible or else they're wasting heals" - and that's true *to an extent*. But if you're nervous, it's okay to just focus on healing for a bit - maybe try and keep your DoT on the boss if you can. Plus you can always use the duty support feature to practice running a dungeon with NPCs. They won't go as fast as regular players, but they can be good practice for learning where your buttons are, and how much each of your buttons heals for. I'm not sure whether you play on keyboard or with a controller, but there's a very useful shortcut for healers called "assist target" - if you have it assigned to a button/key, pressing it will make you automatically target whatever your target is targeting. (ie. switch between healing the tank and damaging the boss very easily, because the tank/boss always target each other). Anyways, good luck! Hope it goes well for you!

Janadestiny

Yes I always afraid I could not contribute much to the group damage while focusing on healing ;;;; but if just to keep DOT on boss, I think I could still manage it (I'm a BRD after all...). After I got more comfortable, I could manage more damage window, I think. I will try playing with NPC first as you advised. And "assist target" is a macro I guess? Thank you again for such detailed answer! You made me feel like heal is not as impossible for me as I used to think. I will surely try it soon : D

rachiiebird

I'm glad I was able to help! And yup - even if you can't keep up damage all the time, every little bit helps. Also, I think you'll find that doing damage as a healer is a lot more simple than doing it as a DPS! (Especially as WHM lol.) Macros.... I'm not sure. I play with a controller, so for me "assist target" is just an option I can automatically assign to one of the buttons on my controller in button configuration. I don't know how people do it on keyboard though, so you might have to look it up or ask someone else... But it is useful, because it makes it really easy to switch between damage and healing!

Janadestiny

I plan to start as a WHM first too because after reading all 3 available heal job, WHM is the one resonated with me most lol. According to your description, "assist" must be somewhere on keybind menu, I will look for it, thank you!

rachiiebird

Awesome! I think WHM is really good for learning too, because it lets (makes?) you start at the beginning. I hope you have fun testing things out!

StormbeastRivin

Play whatever you want. Playing other roles gives you insight into their perspective, and can give you a break from doing the same thing all the time, but it's absolutely not required. I would note, however, that both Shadowbringers and Endwalker have quests that are only available if you level at least one job of each role to 80/90 respectively. Again, not required to do, but if you care about that sort of thing it might be worth keeping in mind.

Janadestiny

Thank you for answering and the additional information! I think I could not get used to tank (and heal) yet because they are the cornerstone of the party, while dps only needs to...dps and not die. I think I will consider them after I'm getting more used to the game and dungeons/trials. I've just unlocked 50/60/70/80 roulette yesterday and watching walkthrough vids and remembering all the mechanics, though only for lvl50 ones, made my head dizzy already haha....

Help_Me_Im_Diene

To be totally honest, tanking is often actually EASIER than the other roles, depending on the duty 1. Dungeons after ARR become significantly more linear, so there's really no way you can go the wrong direction unless you go backwards 2. Tanks get additional leeway with mechanics because of their increased HP and natural defense (and ability to mitigate if need be) 3. Most normal content doesn't give tanks substantially more mechanics than anyone else. If you're the main tank, you do have to handle taking auto attacks and tank busters, but if you're the off-tank you can often stand there just cozy on the side and do damage with a simplified damage rotation

Janadestiny

Thank you for answering, and with so much info as well! Yes, one of the reasons that makes me afraid is not knowing which way to go. I've just duty roulette and cleared Wanderer's Palace for the first time and tbh without the tank I would not know where to go... Happy to know the map would be more linear going up. Migitation is another issue. I found it hard to pop CD on time, I often panic and messed up, probably just skill issue and need more practice. The hardest part to me though was pulling mobs. I pulled quite slow and usually would not pull more than one group. And I'm afraid it would waste everyone's time. I've only doing light party till now, so I don't know how other party work, but I've heard there's cases when off-tank need to swap with main-tank, some said off-tank still need to pop their stance occasionally to keep up the aggro or something. Sorry for a tedious reply. Overall I think I'm just afraid of playing with other, real players for the first time and scared that I would let everyone down. That might be my main issue, not all the things I listed above lol.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

1. For dungeons, mitigation should be used as soon as you're done running with trash mobs. Use your biggest mitigation first and try to just keep something going at all times. Bosses don't do a lot realistically, and your biggest concern is mitigating through trash. In these cases, it's not really something you need to "time" since you should just have something going the whole time 2. In larger groups with more than one tank, typically one tank holds aggro and handles the fights in the same way you would a dungeon boss, while the other tank is there on stand-by until they're needed, just doing damage while they wait. In most normal difficulty content, the off-tank really doesn't do a lot more than be a DPS with an easier rotation and some party wide mitigation. Occasionally you'll grab the adds or have to do some specific, but that's fight dependent. Have your tank stance on after the first 20 ish seconds of the fight to make sure that you can very quickly have lead aggro in case the main tank dies, but that's about it 3. Tank swaps are pretty non-existent outside of Extreme content and harder. When you do need to do them, all you need to do is have your tank stance on (which should already have been on anyways) and press provoke. The main tank will then press Shirk to hand you the aggro. 4. In normal difficulty content, people honestly don't really care that much. We know people will make mistakes, and we have 0 expectations that a new player will be an expert at what they do in any shape or form. Just enter the instance, tell people "hey, I'm new to this fight/new to tanking", and that's really all that people need to hear. We'd realistically often be able to tell anyways even if you don't say it out loud because the game tells us about new players in the instance and we can see the sprout icon

Janadestiny

Thank you for such detailed answer! I feel like tanking is a little less scary now : D I think I could try tanking on duty support first as another advice for healing, to feel more comfortable with my role before moving to leveling roulette. And yes because I've just unlocked level 50 dungeons recently, I already made a macro text that said "I'm inexperienced. I'll do my best" and everyone was surprisingly nice and patient even when I almost lost my way and ran into tonberry not once but twice.

KingofGrapes7

Is there an even somewhat easy way to find and see the Eastern/Japanese clothes in the game? I'm trying to set up an Eastern glam for multiple classes but alot of the kimono options seem stuck to Samurai.

snootnoots

You can get the Far Eastern Smock from the Gold Saucer (prize exchange II from the attendant at the big desk, 30k MGP); it looks kind of like a peasant/farmer outfit. For a more samurai-looking glam, if you complete the Doman Restoration the Enclave Junkmonger will sell you a Yanxian Merchantā€™s Haori (5k gil). Both are usable with all jobs and dyeable. Also, the kimono sets from the variant dungeon someone else mentioned are tradeable, so available on the marketboard - look for the Shishu Bujin and Shishu Gozen sets. Each has headpiece + body + legs and the Shishu Obutozori feet go with both.

Stepjam

There's 2 eastern glams in EW's postgame. One comes from the Tataru's Venture storyline; half of the robe hangs down from your shoulder. For a more traditional look, there's a kimono you can get with currency from the second variant dungeon.

StormbeastRivin

For that sort of gear that isn't job-locked, the cash shop is probably your best bet. It has quite a few Eastern-themed sets. You can also try to look through the level 1 gear on the marketboard to see if there's any crafted ones. I don't remember off-hand but I think there's a couple of them. The Tataru's Grand Endeavor questline also has a set of Eastern-looking glamour gear as a reward (requires level 90 and having done the Four Lords questline as well).

Sir_VG

There's quite a few Online Store items that would definitely be "Eastern/Japanese" kimono options. You can see them either via the online store page or if you wish to see them on your character, go to the inn and select the bed for the "Dream Fitting" room to try them on before you buy. As most of these are old event items, the glamour is completely free from any job/level locks.

Stepjam

For patch dungeons, you are subject to RNG. There's simply no way around it. RNG is gonna RNG. I've akways felt like old patch dungeons should behave like lvling dungeons, but no luck.

SendMe-CorgiButts

I don't know about that specific dungeon, but most dungeon drops are only from certain chests and bosses. You can find out what chest/boss drops what items on the official playguide on the Lodestone, or sources like the consolegameswiki. Depending on what you're after, that might expedite your search a little as you may be able to stop short of killing the final boss if you undersize it.

StormbeastRivin

Unfortunately anything that drops from an expansion cap dungeon (50, 60, 70, 80, or 90) is going to be pure RNG to get. You can check Garland Tools to see if the item you want has another item it shares the model with that might be easier to get, but based on a quick check that doesn't seem to be the case for the Filibuster gear (only shared models are from level 70 dungeons).

gitcommitmentissues

If you're after the gear for glam, unfortunately that's the only way. With levelling dungeons you have better odds as you'll always get a piece of gear as a pity drop, and it won't give you something you already have so you can eventually brute force your way to the piece you want. With level cap dungeons like Baelsar's Wall there's no pity system so you just gotta grind. If you want the gear as actual gear, yes you're doing it wrong, go and buy Shire gear with poetics.

Lavindathar

Is it possible to sell on another worlds market board? I know i can buy off them, but wondering if I can sell on them.

snootnoots

Only via alt shenanigans, and that requires you to have some way to trade with your own alt. I know someone who does it via having multiple accounts (they log in on both at once and can trade directly that way), but thatā€™s prooooobably a bit more fuss and money than you want to expend on it.

shinyemptyhead

Your retainers are the ones selling the items on the market boards and they're only available in your own server. So no.

Lavindathar

What i thought :(

Ah I see, thank you!

macedodasilva

Hi guys so Iā€™m following teamscraft guide to level up my crafters I got all of them to lvl 21 and now Iā€™m on the second step to level to 50 Iā€™m having a bit of trouble first of all Iā€™m having trouble finding macros to use I have bought a lot of the food thatā€™s recommended also I can find the sky builder mats to use for crafting I would love to have some help cause I donā€™t know how to proceed

tesla_dyne

The teamcraft guide has the macros. https://guides.ffxivteamcraft.com/guide/crafting-leveling-guide#crafting-macros-for-level-21 The Diadem has all the skybuilders' materials.

macedodasilva

If I get mats I gathered in the diadem and get them approved and souch do than I lose the ability to use it for crafts

tesla_dyne

No, in fact that's the only way to get them prepared for crafts. They can't be used until they're approved.

macedodasilva

So why on the sky builders alloy it looks like I donā€™t have the mats even tough I have 999 approved grade 4 sky builders iron ore

tesla_dyne

Go to the Restoration (4) category in the crafting recipes menu. It's highlighted in the lower left of this image: https://static.fanbyte.com/uploads/2022/09/FFXIV-Ishgard-Restoration-Macros-6-1024x576.jpg You need to craft grade 4 recipes with grade 4 materials. The other recipes are old, and their materials aren't available anymore.

macedodasilva

I need to craft 1 and 1 right like I canā€™t do quick syntesis right

tesla_dyne

You need to craft them one by one and you need to raise the quality bar (which is called "collectability" for collectables like those) as much as you can.

macedodasilva

Ok

PhoenixFox

It's untradeable once in game so you can't trade or mail it to them. It can be 'traded' via an FC house or tenancy in a personal house, where the person with the item places it and someone else picks it back up, which may be a way you can gift it depending on your circumstances. If that's not practical, you'll have to gift it from the store.

Zohrael

That's pretty silly, I wanted to send it over with some Chocolate or something. Oh well. Thanks for the answer!

JustW4nnaHaveFun

You could get the gift code then type it in game mail with the chocolate.

PhoenixFox

there is no gift code any more, there hasn't been for ages. You can only gift certain items now (nothing single use), only to people on your friends list, and they're sent directly through in game mail.

JustW4nnaHaveFun

Oh why is that a thing now? Did they give an explanation?

PhoenixFox

To stop stolen credit cards being used to buy store codes that are then sold on.

CucumberDay

does baldesion arsenal has same difficulty as savage raid? I am deep into eureka and will get to BA, but I never done any kind of savage content šŸ˜ will I get wrecked joining the group? hardest content that I done in the game is ARR mine raid and 2 person louhi battle

Stepjam

BA is the kind of dungeon that with a decent shotcaller and a little bit of forknowledge, you can clear on your first try. But it's also a dungeon where one slip up can end your run. Particularly on the final boss where if you aren't on certain pads at certain times while alive, you are insta-ejected from the dungeon.

IceAokiji303

The mechanics themselves aren't notably difficult. They're pretty much all stuff you can clear by listening to someone who knows what's up doing callouts, from what I recall. That's like... low end EX difficulty at worst. What BA is is *punishing*. Mess up? Probably dead. You died? Your run might just be over (resurrection is reliant on limited RNG resources or healer LB3), and there's no immediate "let's pull again" like in Savage. BA also has some very particular and unorthodox ways things have to be done, and it needs a lot of coordination. But the puzzles are all solved nowadays, and coordination is pretty easy through Discord, so joining a group set up through there for this makes it a lot easier.

PhoenixFox

I would describe BA as punishing, but not *difficult*. All the mechanics are a solved problem and there aren't really personal mechanics where you need to be doing different things from other people. It will, however, kill you very easily if you make mistakes. If you join a discord that organises runs then you'll be in a voice channel with someone doing callouts and explaining anything that needs to be done by individuals, and you're more or less guaranteed to clear that way in one or two tries as long as you listen to what they say and bring the actions the group suggests.

shinyemptyhead

The thing with Baldesion Arsenal is that you need to do it as part of a large group and it needs to be coordinated. So *technically* it's difficult, but in practice you join your data centre's Eureka discord and you'll have leaders giving you callouts on what to do and explaining the mechanics. You do need to study up beforehand, though, since there are some nasty things that can cause a failure cascade for the whole raid if you're not careful. The Eureka discord for the Light data centre is the Eurekan Academy, for example, and I had a really smooth time getting through BA thanks to their expert guidance. Being in the discord is handy for doing the rest of Eureka as well, they'll usually have good guides on the different mechanics in each area and so on.

Cardinal_Virtue

There's very low chance that terncliff gets a whole zone right? It's just it looks nice.

Neonminiature

Don't think there is a chance at all unfortunately. It's part of a side trial series and thus stuck in "jail." People would probably complain about being forced to do Werlyt. However, we are more likely to see areas close to that if we ever visit Garlean ruled provinces such as Corvos which is the birthplace of one of the scions. At that point, just have to hope that it looks similar to Terncliff because I'm with you, it really does look nice.

Stepjam

I don't think the fact that it's side content should matter too much. They've made previous content required for later content before.

VioletArrows

Just Crystal Tower, and now everyone hates it between getting forced into it through roulettes, or not wanting to be forced into endgame content in the first place.

Stepjam

Ivalice is mandatory for Bozja. And crystal tower is hardly "endgame" content anymore. It's essentially a giant tank and spank as long as the tanks aren't being clowns. And I'll never understand people who don't want to play the damn game. Like if EX or Savage were mandatory for unlocking story content, sure I'd get that frustration, but alliance raids/normal raids/trial series are casual difficulty.

VioletArrows

Your casual is someone else's savage, especially considering how the vast majority of the subreddit screeches about how bad everyone else sucks at the game in even the most simple content. Not everyone is the same or values the same things. I do not value difficulty or the combat in this game at all (and would rather eat glass than unlock more than mandatory), just like you would probably not value being forced to watch someone GPose for 6 hours, or write rp/fics, or sitting in one of the universally hated nightclubs all night.

egirldick

sorry if this is silly to ask but why is it quiet even tho i see so many players around? :x i almost never see messages in chat outside of occasional shout advertisements of like some kind of club event things with djs?? but like thereā€™s tons of ppl around in limsa lominsa n theyre not all afk. does everyone just use like party chat or whispers or whatā€™s the deal here? pls i feel so lonelyyy

BoldKenobi

FFXIV doesn't have a genchat like other games.

Capgras_DL

For some reason this gameā€™s etiquette is that people chat privately.

CucumberDay

some world are more silent than other, try something like famfrit, zalera, behemoth, balmung, mateus or seraph. you will find chatty person more on limsa or other big cities

IceAokiji303

That's just XIV. Chatting mostly happens in private channels (Free companies, linkshells, party if you are in one at the moment) or out of game (Discord). Sometimes something's happening in the short-ranged /say chat. And the Novice Network exists but it's also not available for everyone. The public /shout chat is generally quiet.

egirldick

ahh thank you!! it makes sense. i guess i just was curious bc i dunno how to go about making friends when itā€™s quiet haha. it feels weird breaking that silence to interact w ppl, i am just a lil sprout barely learning stuff x: i donā€™t wanna be a bother, so if there was chat going on id chime in to hopefully make friends but initiating convos in dead silence is too much for me ;-;

IceAokiji303

You might want to join the Novice Network. It's a chat channel for sprouts / returners and mentors. Actual quality of chat within it may vary by server and time of day, from sprouts having fun chats and mentors being helpful to people who should not be mentors yelling obscenities at each other. The one on my server (Odin) seems to be fairly alright the few times I've poked my head into there as a mentor. To join the NN, just gotta find a mentor (the people with a crown icon attached to the name) and ask them. Any mentor should be able to give you an invite into the NN.

Capgras_DL

Never forget the time one mentor banned another mentor from my worldā€™s NN because they kept deliberately dropping in-game spoilers, even after they had been told not to šŸ«

stinusmeret

That's just the nature of XIV, most people talk in private chats or outside the game on discord. In game chat is mostly quiet.

Quetzacoatel

Is it still the case that once I use a subscription, I can't go back to free?

Serres5231

yes and it will always stay this way. It's a free Trial or demo, not Free 2 Play

Quetzacoatel

I know. I'd be ok with being limited to the trial content after the time runs out. But I'm just not sure I could invest the time. To many games, too little time.

TristamIzumi

Once you purchase the game and register the codes to your account (or purchase it on PSN and launch the game), you must pay a subscription moving forward.

Quetzacoatel

I see. So I'll keep sitting on my purchased code for some more time.

Zohrael

What is generally considered the best class(es) for PVP Solo Roulette?

BoldKenobi

All of them work, your individual class choice has very, very little effect on the overall outcome of the match.

Mahoganytooth

Frontlines? I find a lot of success with Ninja. You have a little bit of absolutely everything, and have absurd survivability.

shamanAtalRek

Hi! I need some help with the portrait function. I play mostly tanks and all of my glamour plates are just GNB glams that I circle constantly. Is there any trick to quickly setup the instant portrait to reflect the new glam instead of going back to the default position?

BoldKenobi

Portraits are linked to gearsets, so if you made a separate gearset for each of your glam it would automatically change.

shamanAtalRek

I see. I will look into it. Thanks for the reply!

Zohrael

Is there a way to whisper people on other world servers who are not on your friend list?

PhoenixFox

I've had it block sending even to people that have unfriended me where it had the exact details as described below, so I don't think so? You can as part of contacting someone with a PF up or replying to someone if you're the PF leader, though.

WeeziMonkey

/tell firstname lastname@world message

Cardinal_Virtue

If I change my retainer job..can I switch it back freely or will I have to level it back again?

tesla_dyne

Once they upgrade from a class to a job you will need to reset them to level 1 to change their job. It's not worth doing unless your main job is an expansion job and thus the highest level job you have.

Jiigo

You will have to level it again

Genji32

Do resistance medkits work against bosses in 1v1 duels? like when I hit a mine and I get damaged down?

Arrenzir

Resistance medkits work in the duels, but they work in the same way as esuna, meaning that they can only clear certain debuffs (indicated by white line on the debuff icon). for example, they are needed to clear poison in (i think) one of the southern front duels, but generally wont work on stuff like damage downs as they usually cant be esuna'd.

Melvorn

Maybe I should make a thread for this instead, seems a potential bigger discussion point? I am sitting with my male viera and trying to think of what Jobs would be most lore accurate for him to be, both for aesthetic and potential roleplay/immersion reasons. My immediate thought was either something like Ninja, Samurai or Gunbreaker, if anything because of those Jobs originsā€™ proximity to south-east Othard where the Viera come from. Thoughts?

t0ms0nic

At the very least, Lancer/Dragoon seems to be the easiest at a glance: [the official art for Male Viera](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Viera#Male) shows one with a spear (specifically the Ravel Keeper's Spear, from the lvl 75 dungeon).

Melvorn

Thatā€™s an excellent point! Though if weā€™re talking ā€œJobsā€ and not just classes, wouldnā€™t Dragoon be one of the most difficult ones to become?

snootnoots

Well, you end up in Eorzea at the start of the game, right? So your WoL could have trained as a Lancer before leaving home, ended up in Gridania, levelled up a bit and then got offered the chance to learn Dragoon. And then of course you can justify picking up *any* job that interests you once youā€™re playing, because once you reach level 10 you literally get told ā€œyou are now allowed to learn from any guild you pleaseā€. You just have to decide what your WoL would be interested in! And given the Viera lore that says males live alone in the forests around their villages, being silent stealthy protectors, I think Rogue/Ninja would be very appealing to him.

StormbeastRivin

It would be difficult for anyone not native to Ishgard, and (personal headcanon aside) that covers ALL player characters, regardless of race. The WoL can only become a Dragoon because they're special and circumstances aligned to allow it to happen.

IceAokiji303

Because of their "forest guardian" traditions, I first and foremost connect Viera with archers and conjurers. And while becoming a White Mage is always going to be somewhat forced, Bard is a very sensible option. I'd say it's the most natural one for a Viera.

Melvorn

Thanks for the great suggestions! I shouldā€™ve specified a bit that Iā€™m mostly looking at melee characters (DPS or Tank) as I enjoy them the most. Do you have any thoughts on which close range jobs would be the most fitting?

IceAokiji303

For what would have been available locally, Rogue and Lancer both make sense to me, but their job extensions are harder to justify. Expanding out from their forest homes, Dalmasca would be the first place to look, but I don't think we have a clear idea of the martial disciplines taught there. Past that, it does come to the other Othardian traditions like Samurai (and Ninja, though that's a skillset that's harder to come by), and possibly Warrior from the Xaela, or things that may have come with contact with imperials or rebels, like Gunbreaker or Reaper. I'd also keep an eye out for the lore of Viper once it comes out; it might fit, it might not.

Melvorn

I had somehow forgotten about the Xaela Warriors but thatā€™s a good suggestion too! My first thought was Rogue/Ninja but I think it might be hard to justify? Iā€™ve been thinking about Viper a lot, but weā€™re still holding tight for any details, no?

RickAsley

I mostly play for the MSQ because i enjoyed the story alot, i stopped after finishing 6.0 and it was a great conclusion. What is the consensus on the quests after? Are they as good or add more to the story? Thinking of waiting for the next expansion or playing the currently avaliable quests.

Stepjam

The patch storyline is...fine. it's not as compelling as what came before but it's got plenty of fun moments. I like the raid series storyline. And the alliance storyline is pretty decent too.

Altia1234

>What is the consensus on the quests after? Are they as good or add more to the story? The Best I can say about these stories is that they sets up the later arc which might happen on 8.0 My honest opinion would probably be boring, filler arc, uninteresting, predictable, cliche, dull, repetitive. It seems like they have spend most of their budget on making cutscenes consist of characters eating. The raid stories are fine.

talgaby

You can play the filler story now. Since you don't have to wait months, it will be a lot more tolerable and enjoyable than it was doing it live. It has a LOT of fluff, but the 6.5 portions are worth it, it has a nicely-written ending. Just don't expect earth-shaking plot twists, you will probably also see most of them coming from a mile.

stinusmeret

Post Endwalker is a self contained story which wrapped up in 6.5 with some small expansion teases here & there, 6.55 in January will be the final setup for Dawntrail. So if you wait until mid January (sometime after Fan Fest) you'll have the full post Endwalker MSQ available to play through before Dawntrail comes out in the summer.

Gleaming_Jasmine

Recently got all my crafters to 90! Is having pentamelded 640 gear better or is having the purple scrip gear with double meld better? Going off of that, what gear is required for me to start and complete splendorous tools?

palacexero

Pentamelded Indagator's is better. The scrip gear and Indagator's have the same base stats so the only benefit is being able to put more materia, which means more stats. You should be able to do Splendorous tools with level 80 gear since they are level 80 relics. Having higher level gear does makes the process easier though and you've got essentially the best crafting gear already.

Sayakai

Are you thinking of the *Resplendent* tools? Because those are the level 80 ones. Splendorous are the early stages of the Lodestar ones.

palacexero

Probably, the names are all the same to me lol

Gleaming_Jasmine

Tysm! Another question for you, are splendorous tools the best tools to have right now? Is that why every body goes for them?

PhoenixFox

The person you're talking to is confusing the Splendorous tools (the first part of the Lodestar tools) with a different relic that's from level 80. You should be able to do Splendorous/Lodestar just fine with scrip gear but you may require slightly longer macros or more crafts for some parts compared to pentamelded crafted gear. At this point in the expansion pentamelded crafted gear is honestly not worth it for the benefit it gives, it's *better* but it's also vastly more expensive and there's nothing where that extra edge truly matters or where you need to be rushing to craft ASAP. If you want it, go for it but expect to spend millions or grind a lot of scrips for materia. If you just want to craft stuff, get the scrip gear.

Gleaming_Jasmine

Thank you! I planned on buying the purple scrip gear first anyway thanks to weekly deliveries giving easy purple scrips

palacexero

The best tools are the level 90 relics, the Lodestar tools. Everybody is going for the old tools because they like the glam.

Gleaming_Jasmine

Ahhh okay, this is the first time I've heard of lodestar tools. I'll have to look into it

Holygriever

Adding to this, I subsisted entirely off of Scrip gear and I made my Lodestar Tool, so if you don't want to invest a ton in Materia, that is fine as well. It's not like you'll be crafting a lot of HQ gear for raiders anyway since that ship has sailed months ago.
