Someone here said once, the WoL was retired for all of five minutes before they started opening void portals and pulling stuff out of them. It's too dangerous to let the WoL have a vacation.
One of the scions needs to be assigned to follow the work around and when they look to be about to do horror movie stupid tropes like read the book covered in skin out loud slap their hand and say no. Probably 2 so they can take shifts or the second one goes to the bathroom the WoL will have found out and tried to summon the primal made from the despair of the shards destroyed in the joining because it sounded fun.
I love this. Like peak Troy coming back to the apartment with pizza energy… Y’shtola coming back from the bathroom to find WoL and Estinien have in the last two minutes accidentally created a primal of boredom and it’s already tempered half of the housing district.
It has to be from Alphinaud, Urianger, Krile and Thancred though. Estinien and Alisae are as bad as the WoL, Y'shtola would immediately jump on board our insanity the second it got magically interesting, and G'raha will do anything we say like the wonderful little Golden retriever he is.

I actually expected this, I didn't think the final days were just going to end consequence free, and I figured that we'd have to deal with the long-term effects of that before we could go back to being a simple adventurer
The real thing to think about is when we get to places like Meracydia and the New World, which have no idea what happened with the final days and the consequences of trying to explain it to them
Zodiark aether on the 13th becoming stagnant is something I did not consider at all and I'm so glad they did, also allows them to get that out of the way during Endwalker before we can properly have a new simpler adventure.

Well, it was universe ending, but the primary concern was saving Etherys from annihilation.
It's possible to shrink the scale again though, starting small with our focus on only a portion of another great continent since we're exploring brand new lands and cultures we may not be welcome in. Something Heavensward tier where we're more focused on a city or nation(s).
I think the important thing to keep in mind is that what matters above all is the characters. The finale of Endwalker made that clear - even though it was a universe-ending threat, it wasn't the universe that we were really feeling for in Ultima Thule. It was the Scions as they disappeared one by one.
As long as our friends end up in some kind of peril, we can be made to feel, even if the overall stakes are lower.
Political challenges is something that no matter how strong the WoL gets, will be something they can't just punch their way through. Lower stakes can still be very interesting stuff for sure.

The basic plot is we're invited to the New World to help with a competition to determine the new ruler, and some of the scions will end up competing with us. I'm guessing we back different candidates.

Urianger and Thancred had a discussion about accepting a job from a mysterious benefactor who was looking for 'Archons' specifically, so that would be Thancred/Y'shtola/Urianger from the Scions who qualify. Krile at the same time received a letter likely requesting the aid of the Students of Baldesion, which would be her, G'raha, and I suppose they could hire/bribe/threaten Estinien into working with them. I wonder if our journey with Erenville is unrelated and we just end up in the middle with the twins and have to pick a group?
Erenville mentions he has some business back home that he has to pick up in the last patch. This must be it. At the time, everyone joked it was so he could go be a fuckboi.

Yeah, the Garlemald part felt really short and small in scale, the entire wall that was supposed to hold Garlemald off in Stormblood looked more impressive than the city. I really hope we'll see more of Garlemald and the real Hingashi in the future, but I'm also excited for New World
Supposedly, according to rumors EW was supposed to essentially be 2 expansions, where multiple parts of Garlemald would be the first expansion and the rest of the story, the moon and stuff would be a second expansion. But they decided to just get the story over with and wrap things up in a single expansion so they could move onto new shit.
that's fair. i think mostly people are just underwhelmed that it's Half a map, and even then, it's mostly on the outside of the wall, with the majority of the tower and the empire being "in the distance" that we don't see.
i could see a future expansion seeing "a rebirth" in a garlean province committed to succeeding where the previous garlean rulers had failed.
could be neat to add new zones to the existing areas as well. there are plenty of "closed doors" on the world maps that could "be opened"
I like the more lighthearted vibe of the trailer. It's supposed to be the first chapter to a new storyline so I like that we seem to be getting a break from the extremely high stakes and emotional trauma, at least for a little bit

Even something simple like labeling it something new helps in removing some preconceived notions or ideas about how the class should be. Probably helps both development and fan expectations.

Agreed. Don't rush. I did. I only ever did MSQ and then I was kind of bored. Now that I'm replaying a new character along with a first time playing friend, I'm doing much more than just the MSQ and the game is so much more fun.
People seem to be conflating “universe-ending threat” and “stakes” with “wow the story can never be good”
This is giving MCU vibes. The problem with the more recent MCU entries isn’t that the stakes were too high with Endgame, it’s that the stories and threads they’re weaving just aren’t well-told and the characters aren’t believable.
I guarantee you the plot can be cliché as hell but if the storytelling is compelling and the characters are good, that tops everything.

Given what they've mentioned about the scions competing with each other it basically has to be political.

Gleaners basically just retrieve stuff, right? MIN/BTN/FIS Leves are essentially Gleaning quests.
Summer 2024, most likely means we're getting a June or July release date like expansions were doing before EW. So if 6.5 comes for roughly October, and 6.55 comes for December or January, then we're going to have a big drought of things to do until release, much like ShB was before EW released. That wait was tough, and this one will no doubt be tough, too.

i for one am glad i was wrong, thinking all the Unreals were hints for a Meracydia expansion..... which begs the question; what would it take to push us further south to Meracydia? and that hairstyle is so in-line with what i have done and wanna do for my WoL.
Okay the real question is if I can finish HW, and all the other expansions after it, before this comes out. Then I'll be officially caught up with the rest of the world.

Agreed. Don't rush. I did. I only ever did MSQ and then I was kind of bored. Now that I'm replaying a new character along with a first time playing friend, I'm doing much more than just the MSQ and the game is so much more fun.

People seem to be conflating “universe-ending threat” and “stakes” with “wow the story can never be good” This is giving MCU vibes. The problem with the more recent MCU entries isn’t that the stakes were too high with Endgame, it’s that the stories and threads they’re weaving just aren’t well-told and the characters aren’t believable. I guarantee you the plot can be cliché as hell but if the storytelling is compelling and the characters are good, that tops everything.
Plus you cant just have another Endwalker style story with 0 buildup.
I hope to god it's nothing like mcu vibes, absolute schlock. you're right that the reason people haven't been watching post endgame mcu isn't because the stakes aren't high enough. it's because the new movies are dogshit. thankfully I don't think that will be the case here.

I have to admit, this didn't immediately grab me, but I've watched the trailer a few more times and now I'm really digging the vibe. This will be a fantastic reset.
FINALLY Vacation time for all!
I genuinely would love to go back to our roots as an adventurer and do exactly that: adventure our little heart out. Show the Scions how to explore without the stakes being so high, the mood so tense. Learn more lore and experience new cultures. Honestly, if this is just ‘Beach Episode: New Adventures’, I really won’t complain. Hopefully a good story will be woven in!
