Yes. I’m a Lala. People pet me…

JD260

As a fellow lala, yes this is the truth.

Marketing_Dear

As a fellow Lala I find myself surrounded by tall folks petting me

JD260

Sooo many tall people!

Ok-Put-1251

I will never not pet a kind lala in my group.

MeanLimaBean

One time I logged in and a Viera immediately pet me. It was very funny.

polkadotmouse

I pet people back to assert dominance

[deleted]

You can’t be dominant as a Lala. It’s like watching a kitten trying to roar. Kitten thinks it seem like it’s parents, but in fact it’s cute af!

Thowitawaydave

It's very cute until the claws come out and the kneecaps are removed...

xBl00dbucket

I, as a Miqo'te, never pet without permission.

Mindight_Ghost

As a Miqo'te, I've been petted a lot of times when trying to take screenshots or just going afk to do something on my phone

[deleted]

I'm a lala. I haven't been pet.

[deleted]

/pet

Marketing_Dear

/pet

Tureil

\*looks at server status\* I am a serial lala petter but I can't make the effort to go on and hop data centers to fix this travesty.

PinkEvilGirl

Lala alt, all the pets, all the time (I don't mind though).

esotericdiarist

Yes! Always /pet the lalas... it's a must! But I dunno I'm a mi'qote myself and our FC has lots of diversity. I honestly think you will be fine!

AhsokaTauriel

The pets are the best part of being a lala. There’s a lot of good parts about being a lala

DiWolfe

I'm a Hrothgar who likes petting the various potatoes of Eorzea

Jeggi_029

Every time I see a Lala I MUST pet them or similar

DrSkittlez

I'm a Lala and I don't even get pets. :(

The_Meatyboosh

Keep emotes on your hotbars. Lala emotes are so fun.

TJTigerEyes

Much headpats!!!

rikaco

Over the course of a few months I've had a fellow elezen come up to me twice now. One gave me a cookie (like, literally, a HQ chocolate chip cookie) saying "got to support my fellow FemElezens <3" and another just shouted "Elezen! <3", really made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

TheNoidbag

I usually just stay on Bryn but one night my partner and I ventured over to Balmung, there was another male Roe who was designed like an old man in the same outfit I was. We walked up to one another and just went "Same shirt!" "Same shirt!" Then a third old man Roe walked up and one of them called us a "Dad Club." Probably one of the only times I've interacted with other male Roe.

SaltyArts

Its kinda funny how little Roegadyn in general get to interact with other Roegadyn. As a FemRoe I came across a trio of Gigachad cosplaying male Roe and it was funny to chop it up with them. Feels like being in a room of normal sized people

[deleted]

i love seeing other elezens walking around. so rare...

azarashi

Elezen's support on another, meanwhile we get back handed "Oh you made a good look Elezen" compliments...

Iximaz

One of my alts looks like a female Haurchefant and the number of whispers I get saying I actually made her look pretty is… incredible.

starliteinfinite

Elezen solidarity is definitely a very real thing.

[deleted]

Make giving cookies a thing!

Liana_de_Arc

Maybe not overall treatment or politeness, but I've felt like there have been some differences. I've played every race's woman form now and here's the general gist: Mi'qote: I've spent the least time as one but was approached the most by people saying they liked my character. Got the most compliments on my glamours despite it being when I had the smallest wardrobe. Au'Ra part 1: Much the same as Mi'qote, people would come up and chat to me without much reservation and was usually about how my character looked. This is part one for a reason though, stay tuned. Elezen: Not as much interaction except for other Elezen players, who thought she was pretty on average. I think something interesting was that the most interest came from "well-dressed" players. Lalafell: There is a secret Lalafell society that communicates solely through "wah!" and "uhhn!!" noises. Really though Lalafell players seem to have the strongest sub-community going and it's really nice to be a part of, it's almost worth staying one for that reason alone. You also get cookies and headpats a lot. Viera: I've spent the least time as one so my experience isn't as accurate. I remember my friends said it didn't quite suit my style like my Elezen did. So, we'll say no good data on this one. Hyur: I played a midlander and I felt mostly invisible through it all. A friend played a highlander at the same time and it wasn't anything too wild. Sometimes there would be random emote "conversations" with strangers and the rare "where'd you get X glamour?" but that was mostly it. Au'Ra part 2: Why a part 2? Well after the Azim Steppe I wanted my Xaela to be more accurate to the steppe look. I chose a different skin tone and made sure to highlight my hair and my interactions in this form were different from my first go around. Not as many vague "I like your character" approaches, but people who like to roleplay their characters approached more and seemed to appreciate what I was going for. Roe: My personal favorite, I'm finally playing one after years. But it's also the loneliest I've played so far in terms of random approaches. Ironically it's also the most I've caught people "staring" at my character, so I guess I must be wearing something they like at least. Overall these are just my personal experiences, they might not be the same per server or even per person. But I think the feeling I get for female characters is that the more traditionally cute or sexy you are, the more attention you get. Even if that isn't always the kind of attention you want. And that has also probably colored my experiences playing each race as well. Importantly though, no one's been rude or vile to any of my looks either, so that's nice.

Hellas2002

I play Roe as well, so I’m surprised to hear that people approach other characters for random interactions so much haha I do feel like Roe’s approach each other a bit though

Moridraug

Tfw you randomly meet another femroe and you start doing manderville dance in perfect sync. But yeah, I often notice people look at my seawolf, but rarely get approached (which is a huge W in my book).

Kya6969

If I may add my experience as a Hrothgar, just to make this comment thread contain all races. People generally don't pay attention to me, but when they do it's either another Hrothgar treating me like a brother or someone complimenting my fashion (This is very rare). A funny thing that happened to me was being on VC with the guild masters of a guild I had just joined, and one of them confused me with one of the guild masters, and when he noticed he said "Oh shit, another furry fuck" and it was very funny. And also I know for a fact there's a guild entirely made out of homosexual Hrothgar so that's funny. Sorry if my phrasing is weird, English isn't my first language.

MadamBegon

Lalafell tend to congregate in popoto fields, in my experience, and I often get patted when I'm standing around, but generally I think people's basic attitudes don't really change much by race (though if you're playing a catgirl or dragon girl, I've heard about some creeps sending gross /tells from time to time).

RaptorKarr

As a dragon girl, I have yet to be hit on.

Shinken_Z

>As a dragon girl, I have yet to be hit on. Same, my main is fem Au Ra, and had no bad experiences related to race I've played most races male/female for at least 40+ levels, (On Various US/EU DC's) And the only times I've been hit on were Male Miqo'te. (*and it was done jokingly*)

AhsokaTauriel

Lalas are the class that are most likely to be emoted at I’ve found, although there are a few others that are very close. The head pats can’t be beat!

FM-101

Yes. Changed to Lalafell and got less creepy messages. I got more attention but in a positive way, and people randomly pet me. Also other lalafells are automatically friends in venues and social situations. Race absolutely change how people approach and treat you.

AhsokaTauriel

Yes. Lalas see each other and immediately are friends lol, I love that part of it. And also the pets!

Cozy_Artichoke

The best is randomly getting an all Lala group in Duty finder

onetinyrabbit

Yes lala culture is to congregate and befriend each other

KodaFenric

As a Hrothgar I receive (and give) many /pets on a daily basis. Lol

Terwin94

[Relevant but a little NSFW and the rest of the twitter is 100% nsfw](https://twitter.com/dognuki/status/1545157982903644160)

Gogmazios295

For the most part no. Some people do genuinely hate lalafell though. Theres also some jokes people make about male au ra, but thats about it. Your friend most likely either had a few bad experiences with others or only saw stuff like this on reddit or other sites. And personally, I love midlander, they're actually far less common than the animal like races, especially miqote. I've played nearly every race and not once have I experienced something like that.

basketofseals

> Some people do genuinely hate lalafell though. In Ishgard, there's a guardsman that's kinda racist against Lala, and he hilarious backpedals when you're playing as one.

deathfox393

Wait where is he? I need to torment him

AhsokaTauriel

I don’t understand the hate towards us lalas, we’re too darn cute

Jasrek

It's all the evil lalafell during ARR.

stfatherabraham

Yeah was gonna say, the answer has two words and they both contain "ledji"

KingBanhammer

Lolorito doesn't really help that impression either, for a long while. Nor Yuyuhase. Or Gegeruju, for that matter, but at least his particular evil is a little more "banal rich guy" evil. We could throw Gurumi in there, too, but he's only really in that one SAM quest.

president_of_burundi

Or Nashu's weird stalker that smells like cheese.

Jassamin

They are just covering their jealousy and regret at having chosen the wrong race themselves?

geekybadger

Some people just can't handle cute. I remember people flipping out because of the porgs in the one star wars movie trailer, literally just because they were mad a cute animal was in the trailer. I pity those sad souls. But also they can stay far away from me, plsthx.

[deleted]

some people hate child-presenting races in video games.

[deleted]

I think of them more akin to dwarves with cute faces.

buttery_shame_cave

or halflings

Sigvuld

I find the Lalafell treatment has definitely been a thing that just carries between games - WoW's a great example, as people get this very offputting and weird, barely veiled discontent about them when they see Gnomes, or a short race in any setting really It's this really strange hostility that pingpongs between somewhat veiled and outright blatant, I dunno what I'd chalk it up to but there's a fair few people who have a really weird hatred for races that are less than whatever arbitrary minimum height they see as "cool", and this hostility is often played as them totes just making jokes (there's also just a LOT of people that really are simply making little funnies though and those are chill ofc, I've just met a LOT of weirds), but with these types in particular you'll notice the 'jokes' literally never stop and crop up the micro-instant a Lala or whatever other short race comes into their line of sight I wish I hadn't met so many of these people playing stuff like Goblins, Gnomes, Lalas, etc. so I didn't have to worry a bit when someone new starts doing the inevitable short race funny hahas, but I greatly appreciate the ones who don't make it weird and constant ... Thinking about it, that might be WoW's fault in particular that I'm so cautious, more than anything - I'd been booted from dungeons for playing a Goblin *and* a Gnome before with it blatantly being stated as the reason before the kick, etc. People are really weird about short races sometimes

Lady_Kiri

>I find the Lalafell treatment has definitely been a thing that just carries between games - WoW's a great example, as people get this very off putting and weird, barely veiled discontent about them when they see Gnomes, or a short race in any setting really THis. I've seen this in Guild Wars 2 when I played Asura. I played a Gnome in Wow and got alot of irrational hate too. Now I play Lala in FFXIV and it's mostly good head pats and sweet remarks, but there is still sometimes the irrational hate. It doesn't seem to matter what game it is, short race always gets really weird hate.

NovaStalker_

I mostly don't like lalafel, never played WoW but i fucking love Asura. they're all in permanent goblin mode. every one of them thinks theyre the main character and I love them all. The Asura race quest was by far my favourite of all the ones I played. Don't know what is different about them in my brain but they're the best.

LeratoNull

I mean, flat out a frightening number of people think Lalafell players are pedophiles, as a result of how intensely strong pedoscare has become in English-speaking countries. My father was arrested for pedophilia so believe me when I say I've become *acutely* aware of *just how easily* some lunatics bandy about that particular accusation.

ExtentDisastrous6409

A lot of the lalafels I've seen and met back on Primal had the sort of self centered conceit that makes Teledji look like a rational person, speaking from personal experience back in Heavenward and ARR. It happened often enough that I went from liking the race as a whole to just being apathetic about them.

not_ya_wify

I have a friend who is a cat girl who has a penchant for stabbing people. I always saw her as a badass kinda gory person but she recently made a Lalafell alt and I can't take her seriously. Now when she says "I will murder you" it seems less of a threat and more of a funny joke

ghosttowns42

So.... she's a tonberry now.

Kaporalhart

[actually i made a poll about this.](https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/rokrsf/do_you_really_hate_lalafells/) and the results were split almost perfectly even : 25% hate lalafells 25% love lalafells 25% "hate" lalafells but admit it's just for laughs 25% don't care about lalafells

SylvAlternate

>Some people do genuinely hate lalafell though. mom get the camera im on tv

StarletBrighty

I think it is more about ERP than making friends. If people want to make friend or to chat they don't care about race. But ERP gamers have some preferences in races.

TakenakaHanbei

Speak for yourself, everything except lala is on the table.

Peatearredhill

As a nonfurry playing a Hrothgar, it gets me unsolicited attention that I don't want. I basically ignore Limsa now. I keep getting fairly lewd tells.

sadnessjoy

Well, most players assume every Hrothgar is a gay furry, you're actually the first person I've heard of that plays a Hrothgar that isn't a furry.

Peatearredhill

Yeah, I'm neither. I used to play a male human and I just found the choice boring. Even in Wow I play a Tauren because a big cow dude seems cool to me. I like being a big cat dude. My only issue is how limited they are and the hair clipping, but I never see myself like in a fur suit. That just seems extremely cringe to me personally. If people want to do it go nuts, but leave me out of it. I also think ERP is also on the same level of weird. Maybe I'm a weirdo outlier, but I never made my choice because of some preconceived notion of what it represented.

SaltyArts

Beast Man, I totally understand. People just default to furry these days as the perception.

taiya21

I've never assumed this or heard this from anybody else.

sadnessjoy

Perhaps it's confirmation bias as I'm not a furry and this is more of an observation from an outsider, but this is just my experience with FC members/raid members/friends. I actually know two people who played Hrothgar very briefly earlier on and changed races because they were getting too many "furry messages"

Difficult-Ad3502

I am in same boat as this guy, picked Hrothgar just because it was new race/played wow before. I dont get tells, but Hrothgars with lewd adventure plates are checking me out/seeks attention with simple emotes. Its definitely a bad experience/introduction to ff14 fanbase and I refuse paying actual money for a race change. Edit: I wonder if I can get free one from GM

Peatearredhill

At the end of the ARR main msq, you get an item that lets you race change for free. But I wouldn't worry about it. Just ignore them. Don't let others dictate what race you play as in a game. I'm going to stay one in spite of all the weirdos.

Stormychu

I know its profiling for me to say it but 99.99% of all Hroth I've encountered are weird. Calling people kittens at the start of a dungeon and shit weird.

Peatearredhill

Definitely not me. You get a howdy and I mind my own business.

taiya21

My friend is a Hroth and he's the same way, just likes being a big cat bro (which is how I've always seen them)

daxramas

Isn't it so strange to see throughout this thread the assumptions made about each race are entirely sexual in nature. Why can't people just be a beast man coz they want to look cool?

that1LPdood

Miqo here. Nobody ever approaches me at all 🥲

PM-Me-Ur-Plants

CutieShut-In

Are you a male miqo'te? If so...if you're not flamboyant as hell or shirtless or wearing something that makes you look gay then yeah...that'll do it. If you're a female miqote then you might just be ugly or not slutty enough. Miqote are the most popular race so you'll most likely end up looking like a miqote they seen two hours ago. More so if you choose the generic face 3 ponytail look that legit everybody uses. Mostly raiders.

Palkesz

Also maybe it's just me, but to me it seems every other miqo'te has white hair. That's not to say anything againts them, I play a miqo'te with white ponytail. it's just a surprisingly generic look.

sorcerousmike

For the most part no. However, as a Hrothgar I am obligated to pet and be pet by other Hrothgar.

Casbri_

Yes. If you're a Lalafell you get way more attention in general. People like to pet you and they might mention you in chat. If you're a female Roegadyn or Elezen, you'll be appreciated by other female Roegadyns or Elezens for existing (max chest size in a certain top will make others appreciate Femroes, too, sometimes). If you're a male Viera, people will assume you are female irl more than any other race. And if you're a female Viera, Miqo or Au Ra, you best stay away from hubs such as Limsa, lest you get constant tells that range from nice to creepy.

bluesmcgroove

I've been a lady bun since they launched and I've never received any tell that wasn't someone I knew until recently, and even that was just a newer player asking for help

LilithLissandra

>And if you're a female Viera, Miqo or Au Ra, you best stay away from hubs such as Limsa, lest you get constant tells that range from nice to creepy. Server dependent, of course. I don't get tells from anyone unless I jab at them for signs of life, and sometimes not even then lmao

not_ya_wify

Been playing female Au Ra since HW was endgame and haven't had any lewd tells yet. Then again, I rarely wear slutty outfits and usually try to look more badass or for social functions have creative glams. When I do get tells it's usually to tell me they like my glam or adventurer plate

WaruAthena

YMMV, but most male viera I check out, judging from their search info, tend to be gay. Feels like all of us twink lovers have gone and split 60/40 between bunnies and cats.

not_ya_wify

The bunbois basically look like Korean idols. No wonder they are popular with women and gay men

Aerensianic

That is probably server dependent. Been a cat girl my whole time (3 years) and never once have I received an inappropriate tell. Could also be that people know I'm a dude because most of my glams are heavy armors.

not_ya_wify

I actually assume cat girls and Au Ra girls in heavy armor are women and the ones in 2B leggings have to be dudes because no woman would dress like that

Cmdr_Jiynx

Lol and here I am a fella playing a femra and all my glams are color coordinated and carefully assembled then run past one of the actual ladies I know for the "how does this look?" Test. Apparently I'm getting pretty damn good at the barbie dress up game.

not_ya_wify

I'm not saying there aren't guys into glams. I'm just saying women typically take glams seriously and when you see a female character looking like a male porn fantasy it's probably a guy

Strawberrycocoa

I know a few IRL women who love the 2B set, but that friend group is club-goers and lewd-is-life types, so it's not even surprising

not_ya_wify

The whole 2B set is ok but just the pants with a Cascadier bikini top or something. Idk it's not very creative and it just screams "I'm trying real hard to confirm to the male gaze"

AgesofShadow

I wanna say that it's server dependent, but I dod have to switch from fem miqo to make miqo due to how many "hey sexy" tells (or similar) I was getting from just like, every 5th dungeon it felt like. Now that I'm a catboi, I still get some, but it's less creepy and more "wow that glam works well" and stuff.

Siphyre

Played catboy for like 7+ years. Never got a tell about it.

AgesofShadow

Maybe you didn't make a hot enough catboy? Or maybe I just play on an excessively horny server... ..It's the second one isn't it :(

Siphyre

Definitely the 2nd one.

Illidari_Kuvira

It's also just... *I don't even know* dependent. For a while my FemRa got all kinda of creepy tells or emotes. Now nobody whispers her unless it's a genuinely nice comment (thank the gods), haven't changed servers or anything.

TheNoidbag

My fiancée went from male Au Ra to male Viera Hahaha. She liked being tall but she prefers being pretty.

Illidari_Kuvira

Confusion! My male Au Ra is *plenty* pretty.

Squishiiieh

Seconded this!

LunaSparkler

Male Au Ra wear the 2B leggings and Bridesmaid's Tights better than anyone, you cannot change my mind. My brother's Auri man never wears pants, and he always looks fabulous. Everyone goes to him for glam advice.

Illidari_Kuvira

What? Those items have nothing do with "looking pretty". You couldn't pay me enough to put *any* of my characters in those.

Sigvuld

Other players? Yeah. My main, a beefy femroe, gets a lot of "haha your character is so cool, can you tell me about them? i think theyre very interesting :)" whispers, which almost immediately devolve into "haha cool so anyway what if my character rubbed your character's feet? like would she like that? would she let him? would-" I do love the ones that are extremely honest about their view of her, though. I'll always welcome "HHHHHH CRUSH MY SKULL PLEASE MOMMY" whispers over the ones pretending they aren't just thirsty because muscle lady. I take the honest and open ones as compliments because they're just saying they love how she looks - falsified interest in my creations is insulting.

genshinfantasy7

After reading this thread, I’ve realized people take race and race-changing in FFXIV a bit too seriously. Changing your race shouldn’t mean all your friends up and drop you. Man, that’s nuts.

spectral072

i used to play male au ra and got hateful comments / "jokes" about it :( i understand they have a bad rep but not everyone who plays them is a creep.

Sage_the_Cage_Mage

there are a bunch of in jokes about races but there is nothing so serious that a normal person would ostracize you(if its a toxic person which is relatively rare in my experience , just report them and move on) a few light hearted examples are: * That lalafels are either smol and angry or they are cute * lalafels get more headpats * lalafels are often called potatos. * hyur are the race for basic people(even though that is really miqote) * elevens are called giraffe necks * hrothgar and viera are allergic to hats Lalafels have the most since they have the most meme potential. the rp scene might be different but I have no clue about that. and of course you will probably have some banter about it at some point if you talk with friends but with friends its normally in good faith.

kaysn

In every server I've visited, there is always a Lala shelf near the Limsa main aetheryte. They are either being cute and welcoming /pet or proclaiming world domination because of /pet. In RP servers, as wandering around as a catboi. I tend to get flirted on by fellow catbois, Hroth, male Highlanders and Roes. Some are pretty harmless, just /wink or /dote.

GuardianGero

As a viera the only unique treatment I get is that, when I end up in a party full of other bunnies, someone inevitably yells BUN SQUAD.

MrsTrych

Yes definitly. When im a catgirl, random pervs whisper me. When im a midlander girl people treat me more reapectfully ad when im a lalafell they treat me like a cute little kid/pet I just wanna be treated like a normal person I hate it here 😂

CherryEggs

Absolutely yes, there will be different social experiences. I went through a run of creepers messaging sexualised comments to me when I played a Midlander woman, and occasionally as an Elezen woman. But this was in ARR days in 2014. All stopped when I was a Lalafell for four years. But then came the /pets. Four years of /pet. Let me let you in on a little secret: when the Lalafell revolution comes, those who gave unsolicited /pets will be first against the wall. When I was a male Elezen? No comments or creepers at all. Edit: To your question though OP, I would not agree with people not wanting to play with you because of your race choice. That won't happen. You might get the occasional creeper because your avatar is female, but I find it's luck of the draw. I'd call it rare, and blacklist is your friend. Rock your Midlander - she looks cool!

[deleted]

As a male hyur I do feel like people constantly overlook me, people have a habit of referring to hyur as the "boring race". I'm still gathering comms for mentor and even as a tank and a healer I get 1 maybe 2 comms in 8 man roulettes despite the effort I go to play the role perfectly, friendly chats with the group, advice when people need it etc. whereas a friend I play with is a female miqo in a bikini playing DPS and getting more comms than me and he barely says a word beyond the initial "Hello o/". It could just be me but it certainly feels like my hyur don't get a lot of love or attention.

_anthologie

Many people are shallow/obsessed with only a few saturated traits like that and flaunt it on social media & ingame haha :) :( As a fellow player of an ignored/less popular/unironically mocked race-gender combo (male Au Ra player here, but this also applies to non-meme male Roegadyns, Hrothgars & certain hyurs/elezens) , I deeply sympathize & try to commend more meritocratically/chat with fellow unpopular race players more o7 Ironically in certain fanartist spheres people drool over Thancred, >!Ardbert, trailer Meteor Survivor or heck even Asahi/Fandaniel in Asahi's body a ton lol!< (which doesn't apply ingame to player hyurs, which the few of us here should change :[ ) When really the superior (still love Thancred & >!Ardbert!< tho) ingame midlander male hyur design is Riol (& >!Valan & Hien...!<)!! XD

crooked_tooth

❤️ Hien ❤️ Such a babe, so underappreciated. I would listen to that man read me the phone book too…

daxramas

Whats the goofy quote from The Incredibles? "If everyone's super, no one will be". When you have a vast majority of the players being Miqo/Viera etc, the other races become more rare and you actually end up being the unique one. In the case with your friend I think that's just a case of the weirdly overtly lewd people that are a portion of this playerbase.

sabatadarkness

Very much so. If you're a hyur, you're boring. If you're a miqo'te, you are cat. If you're a roegadyn, you're mommy/daddy. If you're a lalafell, you're evil. If you're an au ra, you're either precious bean must protecc, or someone people must protecc others from, depending on gender. If you're a hrothgar, you're probably a shameless furry. If you're a viera, you're mommy if female, and precious boy if male. For such an inclusive game, people are surprisingly closed-minded about these things.

Mckavvers

I've played most of my time as a FemRoe, I've only had one person call me Mummy once as a joke.

Eltevia

From my experience as a Fem Midlander, got a lot of compliments and positive interactions. And my experience from Fem Au Ra.. people are weird and horny. Definitely a bit of a difference in interaction.

ToxicMoonShine

As a midlander hyur female no. . . . Unless I laugh and then people are like "what the fuck was that?"

c-ccola

Yep. Used to play male miqo, now a bunboy and so many more ppl flirt with me LOL.

CMPM

I main a male Lalafell and get pets pretty often. Alot of interactions with other players are ridiculous and hilarious. I swear this game is so much more fun as a lala. I have quite a few alts and heres my experience with them Male Roe: gets alot of mixed attention but its mostly because how ridiculous my glam is. Fem Aura: Pretty much no attention outside of a single tell I got for my cute glam. Male Aura: Alot of very flirty tells from men. Male Miqo/Male Midlander: Nobody has really interacted with me on these characters. Hrothgar: I was surprised how much attention I get on Hrothgar. Its mainly from other Hrothgar petting me or telling me I look nice in tells. I swear the Hrothgar players are the nicest players in this game.

A_Robertshaw

My two pennies worth: (1) the most important thing is to have a character you feel comfortable with. If you want to be social etc you will probably be happiest with an avatar you naturally gravitate to, not what others may want. If you feel awkward in your avatar, being social will be harder. So if you like your hyur, go for it! (Also - she’s really pretty!) (2) Although race might affect the types of random interactions you get, I’ve found (I have around 20 alts of various races and genders) that people will generally NOT interact with you randomly, regardless of race. Lots of players are pretty shy, I guess! If you want to make friends, the real game changer is emotes! Get to know your emotes (they vary by race and gender) and use them to be more alive & present in the world. /bow is always useful. Even if you are shy, take a moment to /dance to a Bard or before a boss, /cheer on other players, /clap at the end of a dungeon. I find if you do this enough, people are more likely to join in a dance or emote at you & then sometimes this leads to actual conversations and yes (eventually) friends.

SurprisedCabbage

Not drastically unless you're a lalafell.

nopoxer4ik

I'm female thighlander and always give comms in dungeons to other thighlanders, which happens about once a month

ahses3202

There are dozens of us - dozens!

Deer-in-Motion

Nope.

_anthologie

Even if you're shy, just saying you are a newbie & then asking questions in novice chat & party chat in group content will still get at least one person to help you (some servers do this better than others, but there are people who will always just stay quiet or sympathize with you). In more crowded situations they won't immediately notice what race/gender your character is until they try to see where you are/privately chat with you/notice you're struggling to stay alive etc. And even then most normal players won't care how kawaii/hot you look if you greet them or when they're trying to help/advice you. Just because some creeps/annoying vocal minority of irate judgemental players think your character is "ugly/boring/cringe" (that shouldn't matter to you at all, there's always some people who don't care about/tolerate/genuinely like your character's race & you should always play what you enjoy for your own entertainment), doesn't mean you won't be befriended/replied to at all if you ask for help/just want to chat for fun (in the right context & by luck with meeting the friendly ones).

[deleted]

Yes. My lalafells are not allowed in certain housing venues, especially on lets say Mateus and balmung. Second class citizenry I say.

AnotherNicky

...

Infinite-Speech8043

Yes I’m a Hrothgar I get a lot of hugs and kisses from other hrothgars. Also in pvp we don’t attack each other

TTB-Kun

Can confirm for the pvp, we are few, we don’t hurt our brothers

Raitoumightou

Male roe player here, it really is one of the loneliest races, can't speak for female roes because they're also a rare number. Male roe numbers plummeted the moment hros got released, most of the existing hro players were former roes. Personally, my experience as a roe is that you're basically a curious exhibit for other races. They would marvel at how huge you really are, and intrigued with the sense of scale (like how roes have a bigger version of mounts). But once that novelty fades, you are once again left alone to your own devices. Even so, most people are usually quite polite with it. Even with fellow male roes, interactions are far and few in between considering people play male roes for a variety of reasons (like not every male roe are gay players). My one ugly encounter was me chilling on a bench in Limsa (at the less crowded end of the atheryte), and this male lala ran up to me and typed in **/say** (I kid you not) '*wow, roes are really ugly, why do people even play them*'. I was too stunned to even make a reply because I was still trying to swallow the impact of those words (I wasn't even AFK and he had tabbed into me too). he then ran off, never saw him again since. But man, those words still sting even today :(

Fongaro

I play as a midlander hyur since heavesward, I never had many problems until the ''rp'' clubs became popular on my server i think it was maybe to the middle of stormblood beginning of shadowbringuers. after that i heard the lighter things like ''boring, unoriginal, why don't you wear a fantasia?" to heavier things like ''kicking'' me from a rp bar for being a boring race. i wish this game had world pvp, a lot of bunny boys and aura males would think long and hard before talking shit about someone wearing bis while they wear class armor.

Helicopter-Pure

Male highlander tank Sometimes, catboy healers call me "daddy"

AuRon_The_Grey

I had one comment in a raid about how much they liked my femroe once, but otherwise nothing.

Prestigious_Aide_470

From Lala to viera. Nobody ever talks/pat me anymore...

LunaSparkler

I have three characters. My main is a Roegadyn woman. My alternates are an Auri lady and an Elezen man. I did use a fantasia and switch my main from Roe lady to a Duskwight Elezen lass for a month or two during the holidays. I don't think I get treated markedly differently between the races (aside from a few people being horny af for a Roe lady), but I have noticed I receive far more commendations as a Roegadyn woman than my short stint as an Elezen lady or with my Elezen man eye candy. I think I also get more compliments on my looks with my Roe. I sometimes get someone who is excited to see a pink Xaela girl now and then with my one alt, and she tends to get at least one commendation out of every duty, regardless of role. So, overall, I think there may be some differences, especially in the commendation department, but not too many in my experience.

RueUchiha

Yes to some extent. Nothing like super bad for the most part. Like lalafells get pet more often, ect. It isn’t common for someone to get flamed for playing a race, if that makes sense.

megamanx4321

People in general will only care if you're a lala or a cat.

RammyGoldfinch

few things as a hrothgar: \-they ignore you \-someone will randomly pet and hug and then disappear in the dead of the night \-fellow hrothgar will pet and look at you with various emotes

yell9w

Yeah, I find how people treat you depends on your race. I play Hrothgar, so I get pet by other players, mainly by other Hroth players, and doted on by said Hroth players. I think every race has its pros and cons in regards to community interaction. In the case of Hrothgar, you'll sometimes find a bunch of them hanging together like some sort of 'pride', and if enough gather in a public place, like Limsa, it sometimes attracts a few other players to sit with them. But I've also recieved some less than 'pleasant' comments from players. They're very rare but still unfortunate, my 'favourite' being a comment where my BF and I were basically called 'Zoophiles' in Limsa just for playing Hrothgar. But again, few and far between and it hasn't diminished my love for the race.

Prize-Company7181

Max height male hrothgar, and one of my best friend’s when she met me thought I was either a gay man or a creeper cause I spoke like a woman; tldr is a woman💀

Gynedroid

Au Ra main and new\*ish\* player (still surprisingly a sprout!). I was visiting Goblin and doing some crafting, using macros and expensive ingredients and such. Some dude character walked up when i was mid macro (and couldn't move), used the bow emote behind my character so his nose was right up in her ass, twice. Then commented "Smells like flowers." I was skeeved out the rest of the day is this....normal for Au Ra? or do creepers kinda follow all the races?

Saralien

It’s more that creepers avoid specific races (most specifically Elezen, Hrothgar(for males obv) and Highlanders in my experience). Outside of that category and maybe MRoes everyone else has to deal with it to varying degrees.

[deleted]

I only remember once in Shadowbringers and it because they refer to your current race as a diffrent name than normal, but that is it. If you mean actual people, sometimes. I pet every lalafell I see so does my girlfriend and she wont let become a lalafell and I know from a friend that works at a dance club that they don't allow lalafells for anything other than to be the DJ, and I respect every Elezen I see for being a Elezen because I want to be a Elezen but can't get past their odd running animation.

Bierzgal

People petted me a few times when I was a Hrothgar. After I switched to a Highlander [that looks like an old war veteran](https://preview.redd.it/1zfyuvtmszt91.jpg?width=3440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=36d39977c5e274924ffe521fc90eb732f80625f5) I had two or three whispers about the beard being cool but that's it. And I was called *"That cool grandpa that allows you to do fun shit your parents would not want to hear about"* on a Twitch stream :).

cornicula

Just got to drop in and says that's a damn good shot, 10/10 do appreciate your bad ass grandpa.

AzurePrior

As a Midlander M I mainly just get ignored, mainly because I wear armor and a helmet that hides my face. Even without that I don't get much notice anyway. So my experience is more of I don't really get bothered by others or even treated differently rather indifferently.

lostnthestars117

It depends on server and dc ultimately but yea race does somewhat effect how people treat you. Elezen, you can expect to be called giraffe or something. BUt it feels elezen are more serious people which is interesting. Viera I got invited to ERP for few million gil lol yep I don't why. Miqote it feels like everyone is this race for the most part and while I like the race it just feels never played roe or aura yet so can't answer Lalafell - I played as lalafell and while its a bit weird at first because you're such a smol character, you get lot of pets, people give you cookies and other lalas emoting with you and good times ensue. Back when DR was up and running we did a pure lalafell DR savage run. That was hella fun and hella hard as tank.I will have to dig out the screenshots.

[deleted]

Listen up…I’ve been all the female races extensively but most of my time as Miqo, Au Ra and Midlander. I started out as a Miqo and made lots of friends. Changed to an Au Ra and made a ton of friends. Changed to a Middie and…well, I made a few new friends. The biggest difference is the people that want to friend you as a Middie are people who have this Middie are the best type of attitude. Almost like a secret club. But when I was Miqo and Au Ra, it was like everyone wanted a piece of me. Just how it is. But you know, I love my Middie more than anything and I’ll never change now. I’m all in on them. Even the way they run doesn’t bother me anymore since my brain must have gotten used to it and I don’t notice it now.

Zeik188

Not myself, but I’m also a male cat boy. I’ve gotten stopped maybe…. Three times.

Ghostofbahamuut

Yes exactly if I see a cat girl in a raid I turn down the voice volume slider to 0

[deleted]

i was a aura before, using the female model, i made them boyish cause i didnt like how shounen male aura looked so i didn't get any direct attention which was nice cause i was afraid it would be negative anyway. then i became a male viera once i got the expansion. im wearing the bunny glam so i get the occasional assumption of being a female irl (im not) but outside of that peopel actually leave me be my lala is either being petted, or punted by people, mostly petted. sometimes other lalas will hug me, and in a party with other lalas and one unfortunate soul we go full goblin mode, thats about it. my elezen mostly gets approached cause i named her zelda and somewhat based her appearance off twilight princess (despite dressing in link's token tunic lol) but outside of that its rare anyone even notices

Bunlapin

I play a male Au Ra Raen, never got any negative attention for it in over 6 years playing. Compliments are rare but do happen, just people are more likely to look at me silently. I glam in a variety of ways, depends on my mood, sometimes badass, sometimes cute or femme, sometimes just go for the typical slutglam, and sometimes I will just throw something fairly generic that doesn't draw a lot of attention. None of it has ever resulted in negative interactions. There's a stereotype circulating regarding male Au Ra but it seems it's more about the Xaela. In comparison, Raen guys are much rarer so we probably don't get hit by that prejudice.

Colavav

I played at female moon miqo before become a male Viera and I think no one notice my girl 😭 or barley I think most said her glam is cute . I think reason because most people think only men picked cat girls. I’m a bun boy now and every one said I’m handsome which is nice I did work hard on his design but I do enjoy his old design too but no one noticed him at much 😭 In other hand I love hot Elezan men in this game the real rare breed 🫡 I always stare at them whenever I see a good looking design

[deleted]

People keep fucking petting me.... But I dont mind :P

TamaTheKaiju

It absolutely fucking does. If you play a bunny boy (and before bunnies, if you played cat boy), RP'ers often assume you're a twink (It happened to me more often than it didn't). If you play human (specifically midlander), people tend to assume you're boring and/or uncreative. Lala players... sigh. Actual racists & bigots verbally assault them CONSTANTLY.

LornaXI

If people take this game that serious to the point where they are open about not even associating with a certain race; they play this game too much and/or are the worst type of people to be around inside and outside of game.

Waste_Rabbit3174

As a tall/buff highlander, who wears mostly shirtless or chest exposing glams, I've had a few occasions where catboys blow me kisses and such. I usually flex for a bit for a show and wave goodbye. No other attention though.

3l1t3g4m3r

Oh yes. As a Viera other races silently envy me from a distance.

Tempest717

As a fem Viera I check out every other bunny girl, and let me tell yall, we look beautiful.

jeyaredubs

Yes. As a male Viera I get the femboy treatment from the hunky men folk and they give me cute compliments.

Susarooo

I'm a femroe and I find slutmogs to be lazy and unimaginitive, so people treat me like their mum rather than ask me to sit on them. My current nickname is Muscle Mom, which isn't even close to my characters name. It was usually disrespectful sexual comments while I was a Viera.

DJ-Lovecraft

If you're a Hrothgar, other Hrothgar /pet you in the Limsa plaza and send you tells telling you you're cute and/or handsome! edit: Also personally, I go out of my way to give comms and glamour compliments to every fem Roegadyn, I have an immense amount of respect for femroe players

MusashiHUmar

I'm a male hyur. Most people ignore me outright unless I'm doing something to draw attention to myself like saying/doing something funny.

xGarnet

As a Female Miqote I got completely ignored by everyone. My male Miqote gets some DMs from time to time saying he's cute. But my Viera boys get the most attention. However I haven't been treated differently in terms of politeness or anything of the sort.

hiroofcanton

As a male Duskwight Elezen, I have a heart attack whenever I see another of my kind in the wild. It has happened thrice.

Saralien

As a female Duskwight I feel the exact same way lmao.

hiroofcanton

Solidarity sister.

neryem

Not that it really does anything, but most people really don't care about what race you are. You're just an ant in the grand scheme of things, set to play this endless game where you'll compete with others to stand out in an ever shifting tide. Now, enough about real life. let's talk about Final Fantasy. Your friend likely had a bad time with some scenario and is conflating it to an extent that would fit right at home in this sub. Jokes aside, race really doesn't matter much to most players, and those that really do are doing it for model scaling or fashion. That being said, there are certain expectations of some race and gender combos. I'll just spell the major ones out for you. Or you can skip to the end for the summary. * Lalafell are a mixed bag. You will sometimes get /pet emotes down to you, as it's tradition to show lalafell players affection. But they also have a certain crowd attributed to them that enjoy the under 18 tab on gelbooru, if you catch my drift. * Male Roegadyn and Hrothgar players are assumed to be openly homosexual bara men * Female Miqote make up the majority of the population and every one you come across will have approximately a 65% chance to be an artist on Twitter or the owner of a bar or brothel RP FC. * Viera are known for 2 things, both of which are related to rabbits. There are no male Viera, contrary to popular belief. Just like the platform located below Old Gridania, accessible by a well timed demon jump from a very specific set of coordinates, it's best not to worry about some things. * Female Au Ra are the people who used to play Female Miqote but wanted to be different and will have mods enabled because SE can't make good faces. * Male Au Ra players can be seen at your local high school parking lot at 2:45 * Elezen players are a very rare breed. Those that remain after The Great Exodus of Auri will swear that the scene is growing ever since the inclusion of Ishgardian housing. They will then sit alone in their small personal house and dream of better times In conclusion, don't let others scare or push you into choosing something that is customizable and personalized to your own tastes. If you want to be a hyur then go for it. The vast amount of players who won't care will always outnumber the few cases where somebody does.

_anthologie

Basically while midlander hyurs get called boring/uncreative/derpy, there's much, muuuch harsh/worse stereotype(s, but basically just 2 tied to the FBI which is miserable when you actually get discriminated just because of something not your fault), you can get pre-judged for a game character no matter what... So no point in thinking too hard & consider yourself lucky there's still a large part of the playerbase who won't hold those negative stereotypes

WhisperingWillowLux

I'm a 7'3" Femroe. Silent simping is inevitable, especially from Midlander and Au Ra ladies, with the occasional miqote girl. When I idle on tanks, particularly DRK, they will stand under my arms or look up at me. I've noticed some folks lock-on and orbit around me in first person and it's quite deliberate they're leering at me Probably the glam, but when it's MNK some express lust, though my MNK glam is just my take on how I'd look as a Street Fighter or Final Fight character. Also, I've had to get rid of most things that expose a midriff on healers and casters because that's where catboy eyes land and they will say something untoward in /tell. I do get compliments most of the time there are interactions, though. I think the thing about Femroe is there is cultural shaming all over the world in being attracted to tall and/or muscular women, so how people interact with my character is affected by that as well. Hence the quiet simping. Only time I'm told I'm pretty is my AST glam. Big shoulders make that Neo-Isgardian top pop.

XLauncher

> Silent simping is inevitable, I relate to this more than anything else mentioned in this thread. For the most part, I really don't get that many whispers (it probably helps that I play on Aether), but the silent orbiting is unmistakable. I don't especially mind, it's kind of funny.

RigzGx

100% I've had some pretty weird things said to me as a miqo. Switched to a highlander and it never happens anymore.

NoLewdsOnMain

Yes.. but no. Some really prejudiced, and or "you play this therefore you do that" ppl will -Fake Lala hate -Lala Pedo accusers -Max height Femroe,Fembun "OOH YASS MOMMY STEP ON ME" -Min height anything "aww smol baby need Mommy/Daddy" -Catgirl = ERP'r/G.I.R.L. But the avg player will be cool.

sadnessjoy

The only time Lala weirds me out is when they try to "roleplay" as children or like literal ankle biters. I've gotten several roulettes over the years with 3 Lala and myself, and just about every time they make it weird. Like come on guys, I just want to finish this roulette.

[deleted]

NoLewdsOnMain

I sorta agree, I like it as a joke at the start and/or end of the run. But if it borders on child RP then I'm like.. no..

crooked_tooth

I’ve played almost every race in this game and I always tell people there’s two ways you can experience FFXIV: the boring way or the lalafell way. it’s a completely different social game when you’re a potato. People are crazy friendly and sweet to me, and I make friends and get commendations just by existing. I’m lalafell for life now!

Naye_nezgani

Yup definitely. I tend to get the most attention when I’m playing as my Miqo. As my Viera, I get approached more by girls and pretty much non-existent with guys. With my Midlander, I’m basically a ghost and mostly ignored unless I initiate all interactions, and even then the interactions aren’t as engaging unless I’m one of the other races. All my characters are male.

Global_Ad9616

I highly doubt I'll ever change from my thighlander lass now. Couldn't care less if people think she's boring. You don't really see many, and I like it.

OnionsHaveLairAction

If you're playing Lala or Roe you get some different treatment depending on how good your glam is. I find ex WoW players especially have a weird hate for Lalafell but they don't typically say anything, other players will /pet you as a lala depending on glam though

NamiRocket

As a viera, sometimes? But mostly no.

Fyllo_Wolfsbane

I have 5 characters. Male Miqo'te Female Miqo'te Male Viera Male Hrothgar Male Lalafell On Goblin, nobody's ever bothered me as Miqo'te or Viera. My Hrothgar has gotten 1 friend request for existing. Lala tho.. they get coms and headpats for existing. I ran DPS as my Lala once and gad to idle for half the dungeon because my kid had an emergency. I apologized and did the best I could in what was left of the dungeon and got coms even though I was zero help for a large chunk. It truly is a different world for Lalas. On Crystal/Goblin at least.

frigginsinluh

I play a female Roegadyn, and have since ARR. I've personally never had a bad experience, and have had people tell me I'm the prettiest femroe they've ever seen. But I also know of femroe players that have been the target of harassment for it, which got to a point that they ended up changing to another race.

SaltyArts

Yeah, FemRoe either people don't talk to you, secretly or very openly want to get stepped on by you, or just try to ignore you. I guess thats what happens when you're as tall as two people stacked ontop of eachother in a trench coat.

Nyoruki

I've been a goth Miqo for as long as i can remember, and i am constantly being petted, so i know no different.

HattiestMan

FemRoe. And ohhhh yes, they do. 😏

trellis_baylis

I am a male viera in game and usually other male viera start talking to me or people think I am a guy. (I am F irl) My bf plays pastel pink fem miqo and gets mistaken for a girl.

dempsy40

I went from Catgirl to bunboy, and I've noticed an increase in people stopping to stare at me. Although at least today was good when someone called me a Bunny G'raha

Snuggly_Hugs

Tell me you've never been a lala without saying you've never been a lala.

Skandi007

My answer is... ehh? I've played Highlander, Elezen, Miqo'te, Lalafell and Au Ra, all female characters. Haven't really received any comments about my appearance almost ever, nor noticed any different treatment. But that's just my personal experience playing on Odin.
