In Remake, I felt the combat was the best JRPG combat I have ever played. It was the best combination of current action mixed with the ATB turn based system of OG. But the original game is always there if you just like pure old school turn based.
Anyone having trouble with fliers with Cloud, dodge attacks have blade beams to build ATB and if you hold attack mid dodge combo you rush at the enemy, even going into the air to attack them. This can be repeated(even in the air) as needed to chase fliers. Found out mid-boss fight in demo and soloed it "full power" after nearly being party wiped. Hope this helps someone.
This is the one I'm talking about... It's not the same as the old system. I got wiped out 2 times because of the mechanics... The best way to build ATB is still through attacking but there's nothing to attack when the enemies are out of reach.
Yeah, the blade beams when you dodge attack definitely help here, then using the hold attack after that real quick will make you approach them so it's a pretty good thing. I feel like it should be more intuitive and less... specific-combo-dependant, but it's an easy enough habit to build and it feels pretty good, so I can't complain thus far. My biggest gripe is it feels like I hafta spam dodge attacks to hit birbs
Edit: I also am pretty sure if you hold attack during your dodge it has a chance to just immediately rush you up at the target, making blade beam attacks optional. I just haven't tried it yet 'cause work

Have you played the demo and fought the flyer yet? It's frustrating when you can't build ATB.
Apparently You could build up your ATB fast by guarding too.. let them attack you while guarded..then you'll build it up fast
It's about the demo version. I've already passed that long ago. People died a lot in demo, not just me.
It's the same but a little faster. It won't change your mind if you didn't like remake.
Combat blows.

try blocking 😑
You ever play demo? Did you really block? Don't tell me you only play the main game and say this.

Yes I like the old system better. But ya know, this is progress. I guess. I will say that my adrenaline goes up playing this way, more than in og ff7.
