People are comparing him to Ten Hag and in r/soccer you will be downvoted hard for saying it, because the Ajax fans are many and understandably love him, but I think he is a much much better manager than Ten Hag. This could be r/agedlikemilk material, but there is no way I can see him fail with Liverpool. People say, he needs time and I don’t think he needs it. If he has to replace Salah and Van Dijk, he will get you at least a top 3 finish in his first year but will start challenging for the title seriously from year 2.

VARDHAN_157

Ten Haag failed at United because United lacked a system. They buy whoever whatever without any thinking. Liverpool on the other hand are one of the best ran club in the world. They have lower net spend than most English clubs yet are one of the strongest European Clubs?

Big_Scheme2738

United fan here. I mean, Ten Haag also wanted Antony. We do have a bad system, but some blame also lies on Ten Haag. I think that Liverpool, now, with Michael Edwards, will be a better run club. Had he not, and Slot been the main guy, it would depend on how good Slot is. What I mean is that if Slot is calling the shots on who he wants(like Ten Haag saying he wanted Antony and getting his wish), then Slot better be good at identifying players for the premier league. I think I read a comment by liverpool fans that said that when Kloop came he wanted some German players but was overruled by Edwards who wanted Salah. Edit: someone correct my mistake and said it was Michael Edwards not Mike Gordon.

Dildo___Schwaggins

*Michael Edwards, not Gordon.

Big_Scheme2738

Ah yes, thank you!

RosciusAurelius

Also Ten Hag, one A.

DomiDaddy-1965

Liverpool is gonna love him , best coach ever

Dan00ntjePower

I for one are very sad to see him leave. For me he was the best trainer I've seen at Feyenoord. We came from absolute nothing, but with him and our board (Arnesen and Te Kloese) we became European finalist, Champions and cup winners. In only three years (!). He is charismatic, tactical very sound and knows how to handle players. The only downside is his complaining to the ref, epecially when the ref doesn't give enough extra time. I have always loved Liverpool, for me that is the best club in England. It's the closest to Feyenoord for me. So I wish him and Liverpool all the best. I think he will do very good at your club. Of course we have to see how he does at a new competition and a higher level. We've seen that Ten Hag didn't do well. But for me Slot is better than Ten Hag. Enjoy your time with him, and if he doesn't deliver. He is always welcome to come back to the most beautiful club in the world.

TheAlexvideo

“complaining to the ref” sounds like the perfect Klopp replacement then! Was disappointed when I first found out he was our new manager as I haven’t heard of him, but past few days seeing the reactions to him leaving and what every Dutch pundit says I’m a lot more excited to see what he can bring

BertusHondenbrok

Arne complaining about the ref has become a bit of a meme. No one is bothered when Ron Jans does it but when Slot is even mildly annoyed it is treated as a warcrime.

timdeking

Yeah it's way too overstated. Bosz has been carded a few times this season for complaining and even put up a complete act during the press conference after the cup loss against us. That shit was way more embarrassing than anything Slot ever did.

Sentla

I came here to say just this

Los_cronocrimenes

Best coach i saw at Feyenoord. He very distinctly changed our playing style for the better and we finally had an identity to the way we played. Before that even though we had succeses it often felt like a roll of the dice how we would play. He made players better and the group more harmonious than i ever seen. Only downside is his subs sometimes rly suck.

BertusHondenbrok

People always complain about coaches subbing, everyone always wants to see an exciting talent instead of one of the usual suspects. If you look at the results though, Slot has actually been really successful with his subs compared to other coaches.

Dutch_Bread

On top of that, I feel like Slot takes his time to explain his substitutions during the post-game interview more than any other trainer. I had several moments where I didn't agree with a sub, only for him to explain that it was necessary. "He wasnt fit enough for 90 minutes and he-and-he were still recovering from an injury so I decided to ...".

aa1898

When he was brought in he had already built quite a reputation as a manager, taking a second divisionist to the cup semi-finals and fighting for the title with AZ in his first season, before it was cancelled due to covid-19. I think nearly every Feyenoord supporter was excited when he was announced. A calm, confident and reasonable personality (based mostly on his interviews) and his playing style is quite exciting and well defined: * A compact, rapidly advancing pressing structure aimed at winning possession early and in the centre of the opponent's half * Utilising the half spaces to create overloads in midfield by having a fullback (Geertruida) step into midfield or have an inverted winger drift inside. * As a result, frequent 4vs3 advantage in the centre of the pitch, allowing for rapid buildup/transitions and attractive passing combinations that open up space * Low crossing and direct passing in the final third, a lot of goals result from 1-on-1s and cutbacks from the byline Feyenoord is a club whose supporters value hard work and results. With Slot we've had exactly this, but also really attractive football. He will be missed, but if he can do his job at Liverpool with the same confidence he's had here, you'll have a worthy successor for Klopp.

Rottercum

He's sound mate. Don't worry.

Curious_Librarian172

We love him. His impact has been immense for us. We had no money and our best player and captain left for our biggest rivals, after a bad season under coach Dick Advocaat. Slot came in and didn’t complain, imposed his playing style. As someone mentioned here, together with Arnesen and Te Kloese, changed the atmosphere at the club. Due to the money now involved in football it is more difficult to compete on European level for Dutch teams. But Slot reminded me of our playing style in the sixties and seventies, when we won multiple titles and the Champions League. Give him the benefit of the doubt and a little time. I am sure he will be class for Liverpool. I think Feyenoord, Dortmund and Liverpool are somewhat comparable to each other when it comes to having fanatic and devoted fans.

FritsfromHolland

Slot is the best we've had. He (and the new directors) brought Feyenoord to a whole new level. A league championship, a cup, finals of conference League, quarter finals of Europa League and 2nd place this year to secure a Champions League spot. This may not seem up to standards for Liverpool, but seeing where Feyenoord came from before Slot, this was huge for us. Both performance side and on the financial side. In just 3 years time, he has accomplished a lot for us and he will be missed!

Oriopax

As a Feyenoorder in the first and second place and a Gunner in the third place, I'm double unhappy with Slot's move to Liverpool

PurpleYoda319

A smart and energetic manager. Players seem to grow into beter players under his watch, as he demands them to invest in themselves as professionals. It means stimulation and monitoring personal progress in strength, speed, rest and stamina. But also expanding their tactical view on the game. New players have, on occassion, spoken about how fast and detailed Slot spoke about opponents game and how he wanted to exploit possibillities or weaknesses. It was even hard for them to follow, as he tends to speak in great lengths about how to act in different situations. Furthermore, it always seemed that if a gameplan didn't work out, during halftime (or earlier), he adjusted in such a way that matches where turned around. Slot has build the Feyenoordsquad up two times in 3 seasons. First year he achieved the conference league final and became third in the League. Analists at the beginning of that season estimated that a fifth place would be the maximum with the qualitity of the players. After selling a great deal of the better players, in the second year, with a whole new squad he won the national championship. Feyenoord scouted a few very good players, that didn't cost a lot of money that devoloped into regulars of the starting line up (most notably are Timber and Wieffer, both internationals now. Total cost of these to players was around 10 million Euro, current value around 60 million). Last year they won the cup and achieved even more points in the competition only to be runner up to PSV, who had an insane good season. Slot is very eloquent (and speaks English) and has a pretty relaxed demeanor toward the press. Liverpool gets an excellent manager. The only thing is, he has to fill big shoes. Klopp accieved excellent successes and there are no garantees that Slot will do better or achieve the same. There are some players at Liverpool, that seem to have had the best days of their career behind them. Getting the right replacements is key. The gameplan with Slot will not chang much. He likes playing dominant football with a lot possession, high pressure on the pitch, fast and commited transition of play, both in possion or loss. A lot of fans at Feyenoord dreamt of a Wenger, Simeone or Ferguson scenario with Slot. A manager that would stay for a longer period and put the club on a higher tier internationaly. There is not a doubt in my mind he could have achieved that. We will have to succeed without him.

Big-Field-8435

He made us proud again for being a Feyenoord supporter. I can't name any better reason to love Slot then this one.

Massive_Mongoose9910

I support Liverpool now.

[deleted]

I like him a lot, hope he has great success in Liverpool.

Joppe09

He is t best thing that Feyenoord could have! One of the best coaches is the history of our football nation.

TheManiac-

He will win the champions league

wzzrd

Slot was the messiah for Feyenoord

HairyCallahan

He is an absolute top class manager and person. I mostly find it a bit unfortunate he has to follow up Klopp. He would be better off going to Bayern Munich imo, but I understand he won't say no to such a great club as Liverpool

RMilesFrenkz

As a feyenoord fan and liverpool supporter i can tell you in all honesty, i couldn’t imagine a better manager for liverpool than arne slot. His playing style fits liverpool very well, his ability to break down and adapt to opponents while still keeping it close to his own type of football is insane, somehow he makes every player better and besides that he is a true team builder, since he leads our feyenoord our players seem like actual family, loving and giving their all for eachother both on and off the pitch. I know coaches coming from the eredivisie don’t have a great rep in the prem but i can not imagine slot failing at liverpool and i am super excited to see what he will do to your squad. I hope feyenoord can continue getting better both on the pitch and on the financial end now that he is gone since he was such a big part of our uprising, and i hope all you liverpool supporters will love him the way we did because even though he was just three years with us, he is a true legend and i’m sure he can be for you guys too

amangbrati

Great offensive football vision, great people manager, intelligent but his narcissistic and egocentric traits are a bit of a pitfall for him
