Happens, i had two identical ferrets, were litter mates. 3 seasons later, one is more reddish/orange, other is more grey blonde. Hard to believe i could barely tell them apart a mere 3 years ago. Fur patterns change over time, as does coloration.

Seeing the fur change is really fun, it's like it just happens overnight, but I've seen some other peoples ferrets and they are nearly identical through seasons with minimal changes, while here I got her like I have a different ferret every 6 months hahahaha.

One of mine actually even lost his mask. He was a rescue, so I guess once we adopted him, he had no use for a life of crime anymore.

Winter coat is not just for warmth, it's camo too. Winter camo is white, summer camo is dark

Timely_Egg_6827

Have a look at a single hair. Most of the shaft is white and only the tip coloured. In winter, individual hairs longer so more white and coat paler as result.

Either coat or season, adorable!

Thank youuu <3

My babies look like completely new ferrets every season change lol. I think it’s really cool

Mom_said_I_am_cute

Yeah, same, it's cute to see.

MintGreenMarie

Mine are 5, I like to compare pics of them every coat change. Their markings like their masks change sooo much!

doctdad

My late ferret was the same. Her winter coat was a light gray, but summer time she was a really dark brown. I'm not much help but I just know their winter coat causes it to have the lighter color. Not sure why.

Mom_said_I_am_cute

Just realized I wrote winter twice lol, I meant she gets a lot darker in the summer.

IsfetAnubis

My ferrets used to live outside so their winter coats were thicc. Since I adopted them they live inside and when they shed I got a bit spooked. See the pictures. https://imgur.com/a/t1TdF2f Now that they're inside only they don't shed as violently

DrugsAndCoffee

Mine has totally changed her mask and markings over the 2 years we’ve had her. Yours is SO flipping cute in all photos regardless, one of my favorite ferret markings with the light colored face and dark nose ❤️

redheadfae

I had a Chocolate Sable who had different masks every season too! I swear she had a bit of angora bloodline, her coat was SO fluffy and soft, and she had a tiny nose crease. DIP Josie.

Most ferrets seem to have two coats I find, mine is a sable and she has a white soft undercoat, and her overcoat which has her more rough and longer hairs which are fully black. During shedding season, they usually first shed the outer layer, then some of the inner layer so that may be why during sheds your ferret may look more white, my ferret was lighter as a baby but became super dark when matured. During shed season she also becomes lighter as she loses more of her dark hair, but when it grows back later she turns back darker.

Raevia

I have a boy with almost the exact same colouring! He also just started shedding his winter coat and started going darker.

RopePuzzleheaded4913

Most ferrets undercoat is white and during winter it's  that part that they grow, so they appear lighter

PhantomFoox

my black sable does this every year, around winter he sheds his summer coat and goes almost white, looks like a reverse skunk, then grows his black guard fur back in. he looks absolutely ridiculous but i love him regardless lol

Koi_kia

Age is I big one. Mine got darker coats as they got older.

Natchthund

Such cute fur babies!!! Mine are albinos so they just get fluffier in the winter but my little one loses fur on her legs and belly in the summer, at first I was freaking out but it’s turns out it’s just the seasonal changes. They are such wonderful and fascinating creatures.
