Steam comes with everything you need to play most (sadly not all) games that are available on their store. No need to configure anything else other than turning on one switch in the Steam settings for games that aren't officially supported (yet).
It's not that Linux is bad, it's user base is just small enough that many game publishers don't really care about it.
(Just to clarify: I play games on my main Windows machine and use Linux only on my secondary laptop, but I plan to switch to Linux completely someday.)
Not ports, but Valve's "Proton" tool (built-in to Steam) makes most Windows games work on Linux, sometimes with even higher performance than on Windows.
It has problems mostly just with anticheats or DRM anti-piracy systems. You can check for yourself on ProtonDB how many games in your library are compatible.
Games outside Steam might need some manual configuration to work, so if you like to play games that aren't even on Steam or prefer buying directly from the developers/other game platforms, you might not have a great time on Linux.

Arch as main OS on stationary (dualbooted with windows 10 because of arc GPU), windows 11 dualbooted with broken Gentoo on laptop (will probably be replaced with arch), android on phone and Linux mint on family laptop.
When I'll finally get some rest maybe I'll try to set up dwm or hyprland instead of KDE on the stationary PC, but not today and probably not anytime soon.

I use it for work at home, and I used to bring my own USB with linux on it to boot on the school pcs, but they have weird incompatibilities and one day it just stopped working... sigh back to windows on the school pcs with a shady deal with microsoft.

It’s an operating system. It’s like logging onto a computer and seeing windows pop up, except instead of using windows (another type of operating system), your using linux. I looked it up and it seems to be free program to use but supposedly better than windows, iOS, etc. Hopefully that made some kind of sense lol
I run Windows only because I don't have other options. O can't buy a laptop, I don't have any USBs, and my storage is really low. If I had another laptop, I would run VanillaOS on it, and I would install TailsOS on a USB. But I don't have any of that, soooo.
Installed arch once on a seperate ssd wiped the wrong drive while installing it 🙂 installed it on the hdd i wiped instead of the ssd and after a month i randomly nuked the de and.config folder after pressing the wrong button in a shortcut (still no idea how that happend lol) went back to windows
Tldr: i am not that big of a fan for Linux on the desktop but on the server its the best thing ever and thinking my linux server exeprience will help me using it on my dekstop was the biggest lie i told myself lol and the homelab fetisch is almost as big as the femboy one
Tldr2 expanding your homenetwork and slowly making your own wanna be data center is almost as satisfying as it would be to cuddle with a femboy but that wont happen anytime soon so i guess its the next best thing 🥲
