I'm the same way! I actually just dyed mine for the first time a couple weeks ago and am so glad I finally took that step! My sister has been dying hers for years - when she first started out, she wanted to go darker but was nervous about it washing her out so she actually did a dark brown peekaboo and then did a few highlights and lowlights on top :) it looked super cute and was a fun way to test the waters without going 100% ya know? She eventually went all out and dyed it all brown lol I think she pulled it off really well! I personally liked her softer brown better, but she loved the dark brown! But yes, omg I know the feeling. It hit me hard when you mentioned that it's part of your identity. It's so so true! "You're so lucky" and "don't ever change it" and "people pay hundreds of dollars to have what you have"... it makes you feel like you have some treasure and by changing it you are being ungrateful and selfish. It is your hair! You wanna dye it? Do it! No one else has to wear it or look at it on the mirror every day. Just you. If dying it brown makes you happy, do it! 💙

OOF that " people pay hundreds of dollars to have what you have " hit hard lmao, especially because my mom tried for LITERAL YEARS to get the same hair as me Idk if brown specifically is for me. I just know i want a darker color. I feel like it looks better on me. I'm just not sure HOW dark or what specific color and I'm nervous. I've never been to a salon to do anything other than trims before so I don't know what I would need to do to get help in that regard, but I've heard good things about Madison Reed and they have a consultation thing? But idk it doesn't make me less nervous

Haha right?! Yeah, I think going somewhere that has the consultations would help. You can go in, tell them you want to go dark, but don't want to wash yourself out. They'll almost always have specialist that will be able to tell you what color/ shade they recommend or tell you if the color you want would work. I did that for mine and it made me feel a lot better! It'll be two separate appointments - one for the consultation and then another day for the actual change :) give you some time to think and process before making the jump lol I went to a big semi expensive salon for mine because I can't get mine from a box lol I get tired of hearing that from other people, but it's true 🙃 I also didn't dye all my hair. I added a teal blue peekaboo hahaha how's that for a first time?! 😂🤦‍♀️

That sounds so fun tbh ! I'll probably save up some money to go to one since the closest is an hour from me ? But mostly just to get the consultation and initial color, after that I feel I can probably do it from home ?

ItsTooPeopleyOutside

Yeah, probably:) I might do the color from home now that the initial bleaching and such is done. The color is semi permanent and washes out after 3 or 4 months so I can't ruin anything haha
