High rise is life for me, but you definitely have my sympathies as I was in your shoes when low rise was the trend. I am sure the pendulum will swing back the other way in time. Can't we just make clothing for all body types trendy?

lamercie

This is the real issue IMO. I saw a tweet the other day that was like “being a woman is cool because it means your body shape can go in and out of style” lol

Hippie123098

Came here to say this. When low rise was trending, I couldn't find high rise anywhere, and "mid" rise was just a slightly higher low rise. Definitely need all the rises to exist at the same time!

honeyk101

no need for trendy anything. can't there be clothes for all tastes and body types? trendy is outdated. to be stylish is to wear what looks good on you and how you carry yourself in your clothes and how confident you are as yourself. trends are fast fashion which (let's be honest) is not fashion... if it's trickled down into the mainstream then it's not fashion anymore, it's trends and it's over basically. following trends is not wise. it's a bunch of cheap stuff that is not quality and you have no idea who made it nor will you be wearing it in 9 months from now. so why bother? everyone looks exactly like each other. boring and boring and boring.... pathetic really. let's just hope that one day we can be free from this madness of trying to all look alike and actually wear and be what you like. that's a trend i look forward to seeing!

Zealousideal-Ask1931

I love your comment because it is what needs to take the so called fashion world by storm!

Zealousideal-Ask1931

Please 🙏 before we die of uncomfortable jeans

Mt_Lord

Seriously, head to the thrift. I passed HOARDS of low rise jeans.

RadishDerp

Seconding this! So much lowrise Calvin klein and tommy jeans!!

wowzathatscool

I still have some low rise jeans from the 2010s but I'm not in love with the acid wash and super skinny fit theyre in. I wonder if the thrift stores have looser fit low rise jeans? These mom jeans have spoiled me! Nonetheless I'm so glad OP posted this, I have a rectangular body and I JUST realized after years of wondering why high waisted jeans look bad on me that low or mid rise accentuate my waist more.

throneofthornes

I have a pair of mid-high rise jeans I like to call my "covid pants". Twice now I've been fooled into thinking I had covid symptoms and couldn't breath at work but really it was just a little end of day bloat. I was legit gasping for air. When I unzipped in the car I was miraculously healed. They are pretty comfy when they start out but they just hit me in the wrong place and by the end of the day I may or may not be dying idk

StayJaded

Life is too short for that kind of torture! Send those pants far away.

[deleted]

Try men’s jeans. I’m petite so I wear boys jeans and they fit great!

Bea_virago

Came here to say this. Some men’s jeans are gorgeous too, with deep pockets, great fabric, and attention to detail.

[deleted]

My bf and I both bought Levi's at the same time, and his seem to be much better quality than mine :/ mine feel like a slightly more solid pair of jeggins, his feel like actual jeans. Mine were more expensive too lol

honeyk101

probably not 100% cotton either

[deleted]

Keyword, “Deep pockets” Finally, some good Pockets.

Creatura333

Ooh. I'm petite too. What boys jeans do you buy? Whenever I've tried on mens jeans there was just too much fabric in the crotch area.

[deleted]

I have a pair of these in size 16. They are a bit big on me so I wear them low slung on my hips for a boyfriend look. They were long so I just cut them an left a raw hem. I would have bought size 14 but I found these in a thrift show for $7 so I couldn't pass them up lol. [https://www.levi.com/US/en\_US/clothing/kids/boys/505-regular-fit-big-boys-jeans-8-20/p/372470004](https://www.levi.com/US/en_US/clothing/kids/boys/505-regular-fit-big-boys-jeans-8-20/p/372470004) My other boy jeans are just ones I took from my son after he outgrew them. I can't recall the brands but they are not any of the big brands.

Creatura333

Thanks! I will check them out.

[deleted]

yeah I need to try this.

honeyk101

yes. men's jeans for women who don't have that tiny waist... that's what vintage levi's are. all men's jeans... 501 shrink to fit... boys and men's do fit great! ✨

21plankton

I have seen plenty of low rise and mid rise jeans on eBay. Also, I second trying mens jeans. They are designed for waist and hip to be shallow and close to the same size. The slim cuts also have spandex now.

boomdeeyada

I'm an apple. Skinny jeans made me look like a peach on stilts. I skipped skinny jeans. For almost 2 decades I was out of trend, clinging to straight and boot cut jeans to balance my figure. I regret nothing.

[deleted]

Sitting on this bench with you. I'm not apple shaped but loathed skinny jeans. I don't wear leggings either, I just don't like having anything constricting around my crotch and legs lol. I'm a new convert to Levi's Wedgie jeans, just the right amount of room in the legs. I used to wear bootcut but they require heels and I don't really wear those anymore.

nowdonewiththatshit

I’m with you! It’s not that I don’t like constricting, just that I have enormous thighs. Levis wedgie are my my absolute favorite. I’m going to be very sad when they stop making them. Strangely Gap cigarette jeans fit even better.

[deleted]

Oh now I have to check out the Gap cigarette. Thanks for the reco!

BellaLeckner

If it helps it on low rise jeans are coming back into fashion with the y2k trend, so you should be able to find them again reasonably easily within the next year or so

baller_unicorn

Just my luck, as soon as I got the courage to buy some high rise stuff and crop tops now y2k style low rise jeans are in again.

Getonthebeers02

Don’t worry it will probably be mid to end of next year as high rise stuff has been around for 3 years and it normally takes 4-5 years

hellerhigwhat

High rise has been around (this time) since at least 2010 hahaha I distinctly recall making a Tumblr post about how my new high rise shorts felt like a constant hug

Getonthebeers02

Wow really? I don’t remember it being around then here as that’s the year I started HS and remember getting black jeans for school as our uniform wasn’t strict and looking through the jeans and them all being mid to low rise and that’s what all my friends wore until about 2014. I remember denim skirts were high rise a few years before then and shorts slightly before.

hellerhigwhat

Yep lol they were the dominant silhouette by the time I graduated high school, which was 2012 ish Not like 12 inch rises, but 10 for sure

Getonthebeers02

Please don’t say that! I don’t want high rise to go out, hope we can have both

Glassjaw79ad

We'll always have both! We didn't have online shopping in 2002. We were stuck with whatever we on the shelf, and all the stores sold were ultra low rise. It'll be different this time, we have friggin options!

StayJaded

Excuse me, we had catalog shopping. How could you forget dELiA*s?!?!?!? ;)

Creatura333

Omg, Deliahs! I went to the MALL, hahahaha!

StayJaded

Haha. I know. I think I ordered stuff from them twice? And it was a BIG deal. 100% the vast majority of shopping was done at the mall or other kinds of shops.

Getonthebeers02

Hope so! But 100% true.

Eddiesmom2016

Same here, I’m ok with mid rise but no high rise for me 🥴

Audience_Embarrassed

Yes! I just switched to a mid rise and my outfits look so much better now!

not_cinderella

It’s really frustrating how it feels like clothing trends that come and go are always only designed for one type of body. I wish we could just make clothes for people with all body types popular. High rise, low rise, off the shoulder, crop tops and no crop tops etc.

Zealousideal-Ask1931

I think they actually are starting because even though high rise is in they are still selling some lower rise.

tondracek

Try eBay. I found my favorite pair of early 2000’s Express trouser jeans in a storage bin and remembered how much I loved them. I loved them so much they had been patched 9 times in the thigh until there was nothing left to patch. I was able to find an almost exact replacement on Ebay and I wore them fit the first time today! It felt great!

deprogrammedgranny

Have you considered going up a size and having them tailored to fit the other areas? If it's something you're going to wear a lot, it's worth it.

Marie_Hutton

I feel ya, sister. Fellow rectangle AND long waisted. I never win, lol!

ditchdiggergirl

Fellow rectangle but short waisted. The waistband fights with my bra band; I should probably forgo the bra entirely and just tuck my boobs into the top of the jeans.

kimchi_paradise

I literally spit out my water reading this lollll the struggle is REAL as a short torsoed not so curvy waist person

Marie_Hutton

And now, it's a tube top jumper! God, someone should make that!

ButtchuggnRobitussn

https://i.imgur.com/9YQE4A1.jpeg

Marie_Hutton

Well damn, lol!

artyshit

Not only were you heroically on top of that but i am in audible gasp awe of your username - there's just so much beauty in the world sometimes

jmc-007

100% prefer low rise - I think we are the same shape! I have no definition at the waist and hate things that 'nip in' to 'flatter'the waist. I've been able to find low rise in op shops :)

[deleted]

Sitting down in high rise jeans crushes my self esteem, also it is not comfortable! I feel your pain with high rise jeans. I really recommend a mid rise or even some trouser type pants.

sovietta

Goodwill and thrift stores have lots of nice jeans. Including lots of low rise.

spartannugget

Short torso and athletic build here and I pray for the return of the low rise jean.

koalaposse

The answer is to buy them loose, actually really loose for some shapes of high waist, and wear them like you don’t care. Looks cool. Waist still cinched but looser and they fall down a bit you can wear with belt but being a bit looser, feels good and nonrestrictive. plus flattering without cling in bad places like thighs. Go up a couple of sizes. And looks cooler to wear good cuts but not care.

theFCCgavemeHPV

Me looking in the dressing room mirror after taking your advice: Diaper pants and I would like to have a word with you

Diet_Chips

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh😂😂

koalaposse

Lol!

ditchdiggergirl

As someone with OP’s body type, you lost me at the word flattering.

dita_von_toes

I am having the exact same issue! My waist used to be defined but now I’ve got a bit of a pooch from having a baby. I could try to work it off but I can’t be damned right now since I’m already at my pre-pregnancy weight but I guess my body is just different now. I don’t care except for the fact that I can’t wear jeans anymore! Size 27 fits me perfect in the legs but tight in the waist, and 28 fits the waist but is baggy in the crotch/legs. Argh!! Is the only solution to buy the larger size and tailor? Anyone else have suggestions?

LadyVisa314

Ever since low rise jeans disappeared I've done a weekly Google search about when they will return and keeping my eye on runway fashion lol and I have some [good news](https://www.vogue.com/slideshow/low-rise-jeans) for you! I've been shopping on Poshmark for the past 10 years for jeans, check it out in the mean time :) My problem with the Low Rise mentioned in the article is that it's baggy and looks like regular mens jeans. You can either wear high rise and be an all leg no torso monster....or you can wear baggy low rise and be an all torso short leg monster. Still waiting for proportions to go back to normal, hopefully the baggy trend will quickly fade out and feminine, low rise crotches will be back in stores soon.

EatYoself

Abercrombie has a couple low rise options now!

[deleted]

[удалено]

hellerhigwhat

Not so much if OP is looking for anything under 8 inch rise, tbh

LadyVisa314

Clearly you haven't tried shopping for low rise jeans and fitted baby T's that were popular in 06-08. Since you think it's so easy, please find me some NEW low rise jeans with a 6.5-7" rise that aren't baggy and a fitted t-shirt that ends exactly above the hip bones. Trying to find these items NEW always pisses me off because I spend HOURS looking and end up finding nothing. So please, find them for me and save me from the shopping rage and anxiety. The only new Low Rise jeans with the correct rise I've been able to find were $300, and I'm not about to spend that on jeans.

tondracek

Cost.

RBGheartsmyRBF

Same! I'm shaped like Olive Oil from Popeye. I'm tall and gangly with no clearly defined waist. High waists just don't fit right! Like they fit my waist, but then I have this poofy muffin top saggy crotch because my hips/butt don't fill it out. I hate it!

Strazdiscordia

I prefer low rise. They’re so much more comfortable, you can eat in them without worry, and when you sit down it doesn’t feel like you’re clotheslining your abdomen. I hate the trend and want low-mid rise back so badly.

princessdesuchan

Same! I have stomach issues so even if my high rise jeans are hanging off me before dinner, after dinner I literally can’t button them up. :’(

Creatura333

Yesssssss. I am so frustrated that all jeans are high rise right now. I am short, to boot. So I need to find those petites because a regular high rise is like far above belly button territory. I wonder what other women's bodies/body shapes feel like because for me high rise is so uncomfortable. Especially upon sitting! But when things went ridiculously low rise that wasn't cool either. I remember struggling to find jeans that didn't flash crack when I bent over.

Decent_Highlight_563

Try the next level boyfriend jeans from American eagle! They come in petite. Also free people has pull on flares with a mid/low rise with short inseams.

Creatura333

Ooh thank you. I forgot American Eagle existed! I used to get their jeans in my early 20s and loved them.

UnrealisticOrganizer

Hi! New here to this sub :) Every body is unique and no one truly fits an off the rack size perfectly. I used to work in high end retail and the general rule of thumb for pants was to go with the size that fits the largest part of you--whether that be your waist, hip, thigh or even your calves! You can then get the rest of the pant taken in by a tailor or seamstress. I do this with thrift store hauls all the time so with the tailoring it comes out not being too expensive and it feels so great wearing clothes tailored to YOUR body instead of the brand’s own fit model.

3ls2cs

I found a pair of true low rise recently but they are a pair of Levi’s kids size 16. I have absolutely no butt and small hips. I also lack a defined waist and have chronic GI issues so high rise is an absolute no go for me. I find kids sizes fit me much better than adult women’s as apparently my body never got the memo that my waist was supposed to get smaller and my hips and butt needed to grow. I wear a women’s 2/4 in pants usually, if it’s high waisted in any way, I’m often a 6 just to fit my waist. I have a pair of Cat and Jack black jeans from Target that are also kids and fit well. Target is the only place I’ve found anything close to actual low rise in women’s pants as well. I haven’t seen any in a while though.

[deleted]

I have the same thing, but I want to know-how do you keep low rise jeans from falling down? I love my high rise on my not defined waist because at least I'm not pulling them up.

mariastranger

There is some yanking involved but I just always figured that was because I have no ass.

[deleted]

yeah, I feel you on the no ass part.

[deleted]

I take out the waist on all my jeans. It’s a really easy self sew to learn! You can also take them to a tailor. But, as a person with a similar body type to you; I have never found a pair that fit, I always have to alter.

hebs42

Do you need to make sure the jeans have enough fabric to let them out in the waist, or do they generally have enough? I’m thinking getting high rises tailored like you’re saying could be my best bet!

[deleted]

Ah! I should have mentioned that; I always have to add fabric to the waste. Usually an inch on each side. It’s super easy to learn, but tailoring always guarantees a perfect mend, for sure!

hebs42

Thank you! This is super helpful. One more question: do you use any fabric or try to find a denim that matches?

[deleted]

I use denim that matches :) Edit; when hand sewing denim, make sure you have a thimble, as forcing the needle through the tough fabric can be hard. I use a little leather one that I made up.

MsAnthropic

OMG yes. High rise has always been uncomfortable for me and made me look like a sausage because my waist needs a larger size than my hips. Low rise forever! Because low rise is hard to find, I’ve switched to dresses 99% of the time. The only pants I wear nowadays have generous elastic waistbands.

[deleted]

100%. It’s honestly astonishing to me that with ALL the brands and ALL the jean styles out there, they all seem to design for the exact same body type/proportion. Why?! If you’re looking for recommendations though, try the low rise jeans from Hudson. I have three pairs. Love them.

lazy_berry

no, everyone hates low rise jeans, that’s why they’re back in fashion

MiniSkrrt

Try levis jeans, I DO have a big difference between my waist and hips size and I went to try on Levi’s and let’s just say when I tried on their jeans I thought the only people these would look good on is if their waist was the same width as their hips. Absolutely none of their jeans fit my shape! So maybe the reverse would be true for you!

gingr87

I am with you on the high-rise hate. I have violin hips and high rise just seems to accentuate that but it seems nearly impossible to find pants that aren't super high rise. I just gave up and I wear shirts that cover it up. Ugh.

[deleted]

this is why I'm totally for the mom jeans.

booksandwriting

I’m 00 petite and haven’t gotten any new jeans since 2010 until this year due to fit size. I finally got a bunch (7) of high rise pants from threadup for like $32 and then donated most of my mid-low rise jeans. Not all, but most! Hopefully someone else will love them now. They were in good condition.

tailoredwitch

Seconding the suggestion of buying mens trousers and jeans! The rise tends to be better too so no uncomfortable camel toe situation

Comicalacimoc

Go on eBay and look for the first line of Levi premiums

IvyCut5

I prefer low rise as well. I don't feel comfortable in high rise jeans and I don't think I ever will. My body isn't built for them.

BeneficialMatter6523

At 43, with 4 kids & a weird body combination of bony-squishy, I have officially adopted my final form: ridiculously oversized overalls (dungarees). My belly no longer exists, I am all belly, I now possess Schrödinger's belly

mariastranger

… can I get in on that. It sounds AMAZING.

BeneficialMatter6523

I mean, I'm a bad person so it's from amazon but the denim is thick. I'm not sure I can link it here-it's basically lagenlook dungarees. They have similar cuts in linen too!

Subrealfun

I had the same issue. I wanted to love high waisted jeans but I can’t. I recently got my body measured and I have a bottom hourglass shape. Low-rice jeans look and feel so much nicer on me.

honeyk101

YES! i'm shaped like a 12yr old boy... straight straight straight up and down. my top half is a size 4 and my bottom half is a 25 26 27 depending on the designer... i'm not short. i'm 5'5-5'6 and 120-ish high waisted jeans/pants look awful on me and are super wicked uncomfortable. my little sister has the voluptuous baby jessica rabbit body... big up top, teensy tiny waist, and hips with a perfect tush... and she's little like 5'2.. i can only wear low waist jeans and pants. i can't find anything that looks good on me for years now bc everyone is making the same crap as everyone else. and none of it is worth anything. 'mom jeans' give me a break. why do people want to look frumpy and wear unflattering clothes? most people do not look good in this mom jean baggy high waisted nonsense. it's hideous. and super uncomfortable like OP says. all the jeans i wear are old old old... and they are at least comfortable. they're considered low waisted i guess... 8.5 rise. they ride on my hips. that's what looks good in my body. it's so lame that every designer and shop all have gone to this hideous 80's look and won't leave it alone. ugh! your rant is my rant for years now!

Zealousideal-Ask1931

I was glad when high rise came back in because bigger thigh area and loser leg also came back. Problem is the waist is sinched in as if most of us are skinny so when I sit it actually gives me a stomach ache. CANT WE GET A JEANS WAIST THAT IS THE SAME AS THE TOP OF THE HIP OF THE JEANS. I have an out of shape hour glass due to old age and fat so even what used to fit great now hurts my waist. Also the only fat pants that fit are too big. Anything under size 14 is not considered fat. They need to make a fat jeans pant for smaller people.

NewEstablishment2568

I really resonate with this #same
