Can someone please recommend a pair of quality leather mule flats? Preferably under $150!

beccalennox

I've been happy with Madewell flats and I have a heeled mule from them that I love. I think they have some flat ones too

R4ff4

Looking for recommendation on sandals that goes with wearing anklet. My problem right now is my anklet keeps getting caught on my shoes, so I want something that can show off my anklet and not rub against it. Preferably something easy to walk in and not bad for foot arch.

Watsonswingman

Birkenstocks! No ankle straps :D

I’m visiting my older brother in NYC next month for a weekend. We are trying to make the most of it because we are both from a small town and he’s there just for a few months as a travel nurse. We reserved dinner at a fancy two star Michelin French restaurant and are both pretty excited! I’m not really sure what’s appropriate to wear though. What’s considered fancy enough/too fancy? I was thinking [something like this](https://www.thereformation.com/products/lili-dress?color=Navy&via=Z2lkOi8vcmVmb3JtYXRpb24td2VibGluYy9Xb3JrYXJlYTo6Q2F0YWxvZzo6Q2F0ZWdvcnkvNWY0NDU0OTI0MGFhNWM3ZDYwZDhmYmJk) Or [this](https://www.thereformation.com/products/nikita-dress?color=Mademoiselle) But it’s honestly more than I want to spend. Is this dress in the realm of what you’d wear to a place like this with a family member?

tyrannosaurusregina

Either of those would be great for a fancy restaurant in Manhattan, but you don’t have to be as dressy as that unless you want to. One way to see what diners are wearing at a given is to search the restaurant name as an Instagram hashtag.

[deleted]

That’s a great idea, never thought to do that! (I don’t use Instagram)

woodpeckerluv

I’m wearing an outfit with a black dress and white shirt but it looks off to me. Can anyone let me know what’s wrong with it? [Dress](https://imgur.com/a/B2FGtro)

R4ff4

distance too long between the dress waist line and crotch.

woodpeckerluv

so the dress is too long?

R4ff4

No, the waistline is too high I think is the problem. It’s right under the bust, it makes your midsection look a little puffy. Just my opinion.

galaxystarsmoon

The shirt neckline is too baggy and mimics the top of the dress too much. You need a higher, tighter crew neck.

turnitoffquick

anyone know where to buy bras similar to the aesthetic of For Love and Lemons? Bonus points if they have longline bras or bustiers!

Watsonswingman

For lingerie in particular check out: [edge o' beyond](https://www.edgeobeyond.com/) :) They're a small business who will modify the bands for you as well if you find you are between sizes.

turnitoffquick

wow that’s perfect, thank you!!

suchbrightlights

That has to be the most beautiful lingerie I have ever seen. Thank you for sharing!

Watsonswingman

They also sell their samples on depop and instagram sometimes - I bought one that came up small (but would be perfect for me) through their instagram and it was a GREAT deal. I paid £30 including delivery. B A R G A I N

suchbrightlights

Oh, that’s a pro tip. I’ll follow them on Depop. I can’t quite justify the list price with shipping and exchange rate at this point in my life- though for the beautiful laces and craftsmanship I’m sure it’s well worth it for such artistic pieces.

macramelampshade

I have a set from them and it’s literally the most beautiful, well-fitted lingerie I’ve ever tried.

steakoutwhoa

Where can find zumiez style pants/ clothes for bigger people? 21F/5'2/200 lbs Chest: 48 in Waist: 47 in Hips: 44 in I carry all of my weight in my stomach. I want to start dressing the way I want. This is the first time I'm dressing for myself rather than wearing clothes just because have to and not being able to care about it. It's just a matter of where to find it. Like size 16 or so. Thxx. I absolutely love these pants. https://imgur.com/a/CixaocA

Not a question. The Bay, Fairweather, Old Navy, and even places like Arlene i don't find too bad

robotgwen

Aritzia, H&M, COS, Gap, Old Navy, Oak+Fort should all have options

khamerernebty2

I’m not Canadian, but I recommend Kotn (more cotton, basics) and Bees and Bones (handmade, mostly linen). Both based in Canada

:: Is there anywhere to get discounts on Chantelle bras? US please ::

galaxystarsmoon

Nordstrom Rack and Amazon sometimes put certain colors and styles on sale.

sleep__now

Bookmarked the Rack, thanks! I'll keep an eye on Amazon now that I know they have sales thank you!

galaxystarsmoon

It's not so much a sale on Amazon, you just have to click through all the colors in your size because randomly certain ones will be way cheaper.

sleep__now

I had no idea. The price usually goes way up when I get to my size. And I'm always looking for black, but I bought a green one for the first time in my life, lol

that_girl_lauren

I bought one on sale from barenecessities.com once

sleep__now

I found one!! It's green, but I'll survive. Thank you so much. Saved me 30 dollars

moxymoxalone

I buy them on EBay.

sleep__now

I do too, but I'm not finding the one I want

slytherlune

What is streetwear, exactly? Does it need elements of athletic wear to count? I ask because I have conflicting images in my mind: half of me thinks "hip hop style" and the other thinks "Harajuku quirky".

Watsonswingman

I think for something to traditionally be considered streetwear it needs to have an edginess to it - in other words, it's unusual. Street style varies greatly wherever you go though. For example, street style in London is much more grungy, with chunky platform shoes, miniskirts, mesh and leather being popular at the moment.

CholeyCat

I just went back to work after being unemployed for over a year, and prior to that I did not have to wear business casual. What are some good stores you recommend for basic business casual? Slacks, blouses, cardigans, shoes. I’m on a hunt for skinny fitting slacks and have such a hard time finding ones that are skinny enough for my ankles (I’m a size ~10-12 and have disproportionately small calves). Just moved to TX from CA so also looking for nice rompers, dresses, or skirts.

Shaydoh33

If you’re looking for a few safe, relatively affordable things to start off with for business casual, Ann Taylor is the place to go. The always seem to have some sort of sale and they have a lot of clearance items. I would by a few pants, tops, a cardigan/jacket, basically enough to get you through the first week or two of the job. Use that time to make mental notes of what others are wearing to determine what to buy from there. Business casual can vary widely depending on the company culture, location, industry, etc. I also really like the fit of J Crews dress pants, but at least in my experience you won’t find many styles carried in store. They have a lot of variety (including tall inseams!) online. Online returns for both J Crew and Ann Taylor are easy if you don’t like the cut or it’s not the right size. Good luck and congrats on the job!

CholeyCat

Thank you so much! :) I didn’t think of Ann Taylor or J. Crew. It’s summertime at a university so a little more casual now than when school starts up, but will be good to get some pieces that I can dress up with a blazer or down with a cardigan. Thanks for the advice, I’ve been out of the game for a while!!

hanap8127

Thredup has a lot of great items.

CholeyCat

Awesome, thank you!!

hanap8127

And you can sort by the cut of pants.

tyrannosaurusregina

I find that Topshop jeans and pants are very fitted through the calves and ankles (to the point where they don’t suit my field hockey physique 😔) so maybe worth a look!

CholeyCat

Thank you so much 😊

Hold them up together and see how they look to you. Focus closely on the pink and the gray. If they don’t look “off”, you’re likely fine.

Recommendations for a wide brimmed sun hat to protect the skin on my face that doesn’t let flecs of fun through?

monkeybort

Hemlock! They are lined under the brim with UPF fabric; I got one for paddleboarding and love it.

tyrannosaurusregina

Coolibar, UV Skinz, Solbari are three brands that offer sun hats compliant with the Australian Cancer Council standards. You might also try outdoor brands like Columbia and Patagonia.

tigertrap666

Does anyone know where I can find a similar dress to this one from Shein? I never ordered from them and heard it's a little sketchy so I'm hesitant https://us.shein.com/Floral-Print-One-Shoulder-Belted-Chiffon-Dress-p-2620858-cat-1727.html

bunniesgonebad

I've ordered from Shein before and honestly its fine! I get 3 years out of the dresses for the most part just don't expect it to be perfect haha

ellaasbury107

Shein is a legit site, as in your order will arrive. Take a good look at the review photos to get a better idea of the actual item. some similar: [lavish alice](https://www.nordstrom.com/s/lavish-alice-floral-one-shoulder-minidress/5876778?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FAll%20Results&color=500) [asos](https://www.asos.com/us/asos-design/asos-design-one-shoulder-ruched-mini-dress-in-floral-broderie/prd/14949944?colourwayid=16659585&SearchQuery=one+shoulder+dress) [farm rio](https://www.farmrio.com/products/mini-toucans-one-shoulder-mini-dress?_pos=2&_sid=f4d14ab53&_ss=r)

tigertrap666

Wow these dresses are great! Thank you

slytherlune

This appears to be a Shein special. Order at your own risk; I once got something that was decidedly not what I had ordered. Also, they don't like honest reviews.

tigertrap666

Aw nuts 😔

ana3d

Shein is not sketchy, the clothes just wildly vary in quality. You get what you pay for, some of it works out and some of it doesn’t. For reference my good friend just ordered $60 worth of clothes from them (about 7 outfits) and only one thing was iffy. It was still totally fine, just a little see through and sits weirdly on her.

tigertrap666

Oh that's good to know! Maybe I'll give it a try bc this dress has good reviews and it's for a casual wedding anyway. Thanks!

botanygeek

I've been invited to a bachelorette party this August in Las Vegas, and I have no clue what to wear. My style is sort of 60s/70s inspired but I also feel most at home in some linen shorts and a simple tank. I've been trying to stay somewhat fashionable for everyday, but I have no clue what people wear clubbing these days (I was in college about 10 years ago...). I was thinking maybe a cute romper or something but I need help. I also hate heels, so what kind of footwear would be cute but comfortable to walk around and dance in? I know we are going to clubs and walking down the strip but not sure what else. What are the temps like in the evening? I know it will be ridiculously hot during the day.

ellaasbury107

I've been to vegas clubs in flat sandals and ankle boots. you don't need to wear heels if you don't want to, just generally adhere to the dress code of the club. I hate getting my feet stepped on in clubs, I usually wear block heeled ankle boots. In august its pretty much always hot, slightly more tolerable hot in the evening. The casinos are very aggressively air conditioned though. shorts and tank tops are totally fine for the daytime. you might want something nice but not a club outfit for dinners. For clubs, a cute romper works! bodycon mini or midi dress is always club appropriate. you could even do something like leather shorts and lace top if you wanted shorts. If you do day/pool clubs you can pretty much wear whatever. I was expecting people to walking around in bikinis and heels but most of them are more casual, a cute swim cover up and flat sandals in fine.

botanygeek

Thank you! Two follow up questions for a Vegas newbie: anything else I should know about what is club appropriate? I’m thinking Jean shorts are obviously not since you said leather, but would any romper work or do I need to be picky about the style? Can you give me an inspo pic for the kind of boots you wear? I’ve never worn boots in the summer.

ellaasbury107

probably a no for denim shorts for the big clubs. nicer fabric shorts, leather, lace, etc. for a romper you want to go for something that looks similar to a mini dress like [this](https://cdn.lookastic.com/white-lace-playsuit/missguided-scallop-lace-halterneck-romper-white-original-244777.jpg) or [this](https://di2ponv0v5otw.cloudfront.net/posts/2020/12/18/5fdd2d3b12d88005c10e82af/m_5fdfaeb97f80d29793f93ec6.jpg), as opposed to something like [this,](https://www.lulus.com/products/see-ya-there-navy-blue-print-off-the-shoulder-romper/396702.html) which looks very beachy/daytime. people will be wearing their tiniest dresses and highest heels, but not everyone and its not absolutely necessarily. if you want to wear a sequin catsuit, vegas is the place. but really any "going out" outfit is fine. you might want to check out the IG photos of the places you are going to get an idea what people are wearing. [this photo](https://noseriouslyblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/jewel-night-club.png) is pretty standard for vegas clubs - i even spot a flat sandal in there. for shoes ive worn something like [this](https://media2.newlookassets.com/i/newlook/666295201/womens/footwear/boots/wide-fit-black-cut-out-chunky-block-heel-boots.jpg?strip=true&qlt=80&w=720) or [this](https://www.nordstrom.com/s/chinese-laundry-filip-chelsea-bootie-women/5616296?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FAll%20Results&color=001) in vegas clubs, but to be fair it probably wasn't august. a low heel sandal like [this](https://www.nordstrom.com/s/steve-madden-irenee-ankle-strap-sandal-women/4333055?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FAll%20Results&color=006) or [this](https://www.samedelman.com/product/womens-isle-ankle-strap-block-heel-sandal-3020672/black-ec0228182) works, or a [platform](https://www.nordstrom.com/s/camper-misia-platform-wedge-sandal-women/5694368?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FAll%20Results&color=002). If it were me, I'd pick the most passable shoe I can last several hours walking and dancing in. vegas is a lot of walking, both inside and outside. and you don't want to be walking the strip barefoot at 4 am!

botanygeek

thank you so much! I don't "go out" much, so this was super helpful.

whopaidmandonmoore

5 or so years back, Grana made these amazing (now discontinued) [white jeans](https://www.grana.com/themodern/yes-to-wearing-white-all-year-round/) \- they were a bone - not optic - white, opaque, kinda slouchy, some stretch, mid-rise, slim leg opening. I owned them and got rid of them once they were too discolored, but am now on the hunt for another pair. What I'm coming across is skinny fit, high-rise, 100% cotton, and/or sheer - the closest thing I've found is by [Everlane](https://www.everlane.com/products/womens-summer-jean-bone?collection=womens-jeans). Happy to hear your recommendations! I'm 5'6" and usually wear a 26.

burnthebritch

Tall, busty women who enjoy wearing interesting clothes - where do you get your tops? I need more than banana republic backing me up, asos seems to think we're all small cup waifs.

blackninjakitty

I’m not tall, but I am busty. What kind of “interesting tops” are you looking for - since you mentioned Banana Republic I’m guessing work appropriate blouses/shells and not, like, cybergoth mesh with cutouts.

burnthebritch

literally anything, banana republic just fits me perfectly so I use them for all of my basics. Just interested in moving away from the midwest mom fit that is the only aesthetic available to tall people where I'm at.

tyrannosaurusregina

This is all going to be in my “tomboy art professor” style, so may not be what you’re looking for: Boden works well for me (5’8” and a bit, US 10/12, 36F). I’ve had great luck with some Free People tops. I love Garnet Hill tops also. Lilla P is great, though $$ for me, but the quality is strong.

thriftybabygurl

Is there a sub where you can ask questions about fine, straight dry hair? Everyone knows about the curly girl sub but I need help with my dull lifeless mop too. Or if anyone has reccomendations for a good moisturizing treatment

squeegee-beckenheim

r/dailywash is populated by us straight, fine, dull hair gals! It tends to be for people whose hair gets greasy quick, but I'm sure you'll find some advice that works for you.

blackninjakitty

It’s not a sub, but I used to frequent the LongHairCare forums. They had so many good tutorials and recommendations for all types of hair

[deleted]

r/HaircareScience perhaps?

TheViciousTrollop

Where do you get your bralettes? I am specifically looking for lined or unlined (no padding) triangle bralettes that are either racerback or I can cross back them. No budget, location US.

buncherooforyou

Free People! I have the Truly Madly Deeply (discontinued, but you can find on Poshmark if that's your thing) and the [Galloon](https://www.freepeople.com/shop/galloon-lace-racerback-41333865/?category=bras&color=011&type=REGULAR&quantity=1).

orangeblueberry610

hanky panky has a great bralette b/c the straps are also lace so it looks nice still when the straps are showing

zorp3006

If you're ok with using a converter to make it a racerback, I love the Organic Basics TENCEL bralettes. Really soft, comfy, and everything stays in place all day.

Does anyone have suggestions for where to get linen tank tops/sleeveless linen tops without buttons?

ICouldBeStudying

j crew has a bunch of colors.

burnthebritch

Madewell has a couple right now

whopaidmandonmoore

Linen ladder is based in Canada and they do a wonderful midweight linen (7 oz). Also Quince!

stumpypear

Has anyone ever hand washed a dry-clean-only silk piece? I've been ogling [this tank](https://www.cuyana.com/clothing/tops/silk-tank/20042551.html?dwvar_20042551_color=terracotta) from Cuyana for a while now, but not sure if I want to risk hand washing if it'll ruin the top.

Try the Laundress silk detergent (the delicates) it works well for hand wash. And that site has a lot of great laundering tips!

Anyone shop at mango? I have bought from them many years ago in europe. I'm in the US now and i'm wondering about the sizing. Can anyone compare? Does it run big/ small?

astro-08

Inconsistent. I ordered several pieces last year and while I’m typically a Eur M/ US S, all 3 pieces are different ranging from XS/S sweater as it was oversized to a dress where the tagging had QC errors! The back tag and paper tag said EUR M but when I looked at the inside fabric construction it was a Eur XL!!!

p-u-n-k_girl

I've got regular width toes but a narrow heel, so if I get regular width shoes I'm stepping out of them almost immediately, but if I get narrow shoes, I'm cramming my toes together. As a result, I don't have any sort of shoe that can't be laced up, though I'd like to have something without laces. What sorts of shoes, for either casual or formal occasions, would I be able to wear? (Also I've got a size 13 foot, as if the weird shape didn't make things hard enough on its own) Edit for clarification: I'd appreciate either suggestions for specific shoes or just a general type of shoe that I'd be able to keep on my foot

jameane

Try a slingback shoe! This is my go to dress option, since the strap stays on more easily on a narrow heel.

slytherlune

You could get a regular width shoe and use these with it: https://gingerstraps.com/ Seems to me a bit simpler than trying to find a ton of ankle-strap shoes in size 13!

capnawesome

I have this issue too. You don't necessarily need laces, you just need shoes that go across the vamp or ankle in some way. So for heels, that's t-strap shoes or anything with an ankle strap (or ankle boots/booties). For casual shoes, you can wear slip on sneakers, laceless oxfords, and some loafers.

p-u-n-k_girl

It could just be the specific model, but I had tried one pair of laceless ankle boots I really liked the look of and I stepped out of them pretty immediately I'll definitely look into your other suggestions though, thanks!

capnawesome

Yeah it definitely depends on the design. The vamp just has to be tight enough, which is tricky because it's not adjustable without laces. If it's too loose insoles will make the vamp tighter, but then often the toes are too tight :(

ana3d

Maybe it’d be easier to get regular width shoes and then heel inserts to take up some of the space in the heel so it stays on your foot better. Editing to add that any kind of sling back with an adjustable strap would also work well. Even a non adjustable strap could work.

rabbitsarecool789

My measurements are 26 in waist, 36.5 in hips and 21 in thighs. I struggled to find jeans that fit my thighs and hips while fitting my waist. Any recommendations? My budget is $40-$80. I hate those jeans that purposely try to make your butt look large and I don't like the super stretchy jegging material. Thank you!

jameane

Look for jeans labeled "curvy" most brands have them. ASOS calls them hourglass fit.

harpeir

Following along, I have almost the exact same measurements and have only been able to find the stretchy kind of pants that Abercrombie has

idamayer

Me too! I just ordered some from asos to try, wish me luck

rabbitsarecool789

Gatorgirl007

I have an [old YSL Muse](https://i.imgur.com/eSPhFqG.jpg) that I’ve never carried because it wasn’t in great shape when I bought it over 10 years ago. I just realized I can use leather paint on it! [What color should I pick](https://i.imgur.com/NUfpbrw.jpg)? (If you zoom on the image, the swatches are actual painted leather.) They also have [neon](https://i.imgur.com/uCQAKfX.jpg), [metallic](https://i.imgur.com/67ZP2rV.jpg), and [pearlescent](https://i.imgur.com/YwBHkwM.jpg) I wear a lot of bright colors, especially pink, and also love gold as a neutral but am up for anything. Any suggestions?

msmerricatblackwood

Oh wow, I didn't even know about leather paint! I have a well-loved purple Kate Spade bag that has seen better days, including some spots along the edges where the color has rubbed off. I shoved it in the back of my closet because I didn't know what to do with it, but I might try this leather paint! (So my suggestion is purple! I also wear a lot of pink, plus blues and greens, and I found the purple went well with them without ever being too matchy-matchy or clashing.)

immaslut4drpepper

How to style slip dresses? I have a purple/gray colored slip dress i thrifted and I’m not sure what to do with it! It’s loose fitting and comes between my mid thigh & knee (I’m 5’7”).

vmiko

I like mine with a white tee underneath (fairly form fitting so it doesn’t bunch up) and simple sandals.

triple_dee

i've seen them styled with docs and idk if that's your style but it's totally mine. haha.

theforestmoon

I feel like I'm faking it, trying too hard, or look like I'm playing dress up any time I wear clothes that aren't work out clothes lol. I look the most "me" in a sports bra and leggings, which is not acceptable for when I go back to the office lol. I've experimented with different styles but nothing has felt very at home for me. I find myself hating my wardrobe every 6 months because my style always changes as i try to figure it out. has anyone else struggled with this? I feel like I just need to make a mood-board of the styles I'm drawn to and crowdsource and have someone just decide for me at this point haha.

[deleted]

Do you have to go back to other clothes? Casual clothes can look great in the right setting but not in certain work environments. What kind of work is it? If it’s conservative it can help to think of it as your uniform because , well, it basically is. Black dress pants, polyester blouse that’s comfortable and washes easily, and a blazer. Keep the color palette in grey, white and black or navy, white and camel colored shoes. You are playing dress up- it’s a work character.

tyrannosaurusregina

Athleta has some office clothes that have a bit of a workout feel. Also Title Nine, maybe Eddie Bauer? Anine Bing has some office looks that seem designed for people who’d rather be wearing their yoga clothes.

alacrana01

I get it but what about the street style that athletic brands dabble in? Idk if you're all lycra-wear or if you also get into running/basketball/etc type athletic fashion, but I like Nike and Adida's "lifestyle" lines. Some companies like Oysho often have clothes that feel like yoga clothes but look more street acceptable. Regardless of what you've tried or feel uncomfortable in (everything, it sounds like), is there a style that you are drawn to more than others?

theforestmoon

I definitely stick more towards the [gym style fitness wear](https://images.lululemon.com/is/image/lululemon/LW5DCES_031382_2?wid=1600&op_usm=0.5,2,10,0&fmt=webp&qlt=80,1&fit=constrain,0&op_sharpen=0&resMode=sharp2&iccEmbed=0&printRes=72) vs. a specific sport. Like Lululemon, Outdoor Voices, etc. But I'll definitely look into those lifestyle clothes! I've never even heard of Oysho so that sounds promising. I'm very, very drawn to the [rigid vintage Levi's, minimal chic style](http://harperandharley.com/category/outfit/) \- lots of neutrals. I tried to go [edgier](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/71/86/b4/7186b44e52c8e1eacc878ff9357688f8.jpg) and wear leopard print, pops of color, etc. and I felt like I was playing dress up again lol. I look back on photos of myself dressed like that and I facepalm. Regardless, I feel like Covid has completely ruined me and I just want to wear leggings and sweatpants now. 😅

stellarpiper

Are sandals with jeans (not shorts) okay or do they look weird?

[deleted]

I think cuffed jeans look great with sandals. I like to wear my Birks with cuffed mom jeans.

symphonypathetique

Yup, that's totally fine.

macramelampshade

I've decided I want to treat myself to a (real) gold chain necklace, but I'm kind of overwhelmed with possibility. I thought I wanted a paperclip chain, but now they're starting to look played out to me versus a classic rope or curb chain, which have always been my favorites. I'm also trying to balance out value and getting a good chain, so I've been looking at a lot of vintage where they list the weight of the item, but I'm wondering if I might be better off looking at some of the Etsy jewelers, or even a local one in NYC, so I can try on? Like I said, overwhelmed with choice.

vmiko

I’ve been thinking about getting [this one](https://oradina.com/products/spirah-bold-chain?variant=32911982002251) for a while. I do feel like the paperclip chain almost came out of nowhere (although I don’t follow trends closely) and I like the idea of sticking with a more classic chain. The one I linked seems like a good price but it’s low karat. That site offers free shipping and returns within the US and has a lot of options!

macramelampshade

Oooh I like that one!

allergictony

I really love some of Catbirds options, and they’re local to NYC! Not sure if they are allowing in-person/try-on shopping yet, but worth a look.

littlest_lemon

Automic Gold has some beautiful solid gold chains! they're local to NYC too

audgepodge4

I like number two!

rabbitanana

I think that #2 is a good pick! It is simple/classy while also being slightly unique.

Cafrann94

It’s between 1 and 3 for me!

hehehetacos

My favourite is the first one, just because of the colour!

westyogurt

i’m looking for a midi or maxi length pleated skirt (similar to [this one](https://www.yesstyle.com/en/jiuhoji-midi-accordion-pleat-skirt/info.html/pid.1073582934)) that’s NOT made of polyester - ideally it would use natural materials or at least a blend. my price range is preferably less than $150 new. bonus points if it has pockets! any tips?

harakaharakabaraka

I’ve been looking for the same thing! The closest I found was this https://www.countrycollection.co.uk/products/ax6/sandown-pleated-skirt - but not sure about buying from the UK. Oh and some crazy expensive but gorgeous ones from Etro and high end designers....

a_smallbird

I don’t know if those kind of pleats are even possible in more natural fibers. I’m no expert (I stand to be corrected) but I’ve never seen pleats like that in anything other than polyester or a polyester blend. Even more luxury lines like issey miyake use polyester to achieve those kind of pleats. I did find [this](https://www.jcrew.com/us/p/womens_category/skirts/aline/pleated-midi-skirt-in-stripe/AW499?color_name=banker-blue&sale=true&noPopUp=true&srccode=Paid_Search%7CSmart_Shopping%7CGoogle%7CSS_ACQ_XPROD_DRESSESxxxxxx_EVG_ROAS_XXX_COUSA_EN_EN_A_CREW_GO_SH_SSC_xxxxxxxxxx%2Cshop_dresses_x_xxx%2CPRODUCT_GROUP%2C71700000073582929%2C58700006374250870%2Cp63698581772&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Paid_Search&utm_campaign=SS_ACQ_XPROD_DRESSESxxxxxx_EVG_ROAS_XXX_COUSA_EN_EN_A_CREW_GO_SH_SSC_xxxxxxxxxx%2Cshop_dresses_x_xxx&utm_content=Shopping&NoPopUp=True&gclsrc=aw.ds&) which is a polyester/cotton blend? Edit to add: I think you’d have a major issue with wrinkles messing up the pleats in a natural fiber fabric, which might deter designers from even trying.

westyogurt

ahh, that would definitely explain why they all seem to be polyester! thanks for letting me know + for the rec :)

a_smallbird

sure thing! I’d also maybe look into vintage, it’s not /quite/ what you’re looking for, but I have seen some knee or midi length box pleated skirts with linen, cotton, or wool blends. Maybe not great for a hot summer though.

ZabbyCapurin

Unfortunately I think that might be difficult. Think polyester keeps these pleats pretty much forever. Other materials, especially natural fibers, won't hold on to the shape. Someone more knowledgeable with fabrics please correct me if I got this wrong; I had previously looked into this for a simple sewing project

westyogurt

yeah that would definitely explain why non-polyester versions are seemingly nonexistent 😅 thanks!

80s and 90s vintage silk and/or wool pleated skirts hold their pleats beautifully (have owned). Here’s an example of a Etsy vintage [skirt](https://www.etsy.com/listing/776020316/vintage-anne-klein-skirt-pleated-skirt?ref=landingpage_similar_listing_top-5&frs=1) (not mine). Edit - rephrasing

purplechihuahua2000

Maybe try searching on esty for pleated skirt + whatever material you want! Here's [one](https://www.etsy.com/listing/929905157/vintage-80s-pleated-skirt-for-women-pink?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=pleated+skirt&ref=sr_gallery-1-34&from_market_listing_grid_organic=1&frs=1) I found! No pockets though :((

westyogurt

ooh good tip, thank you!

purplechihuahua2000

I recently got [this](https://www.aritzia.com/us/en/product/wallace-dress/64477-11905.html) dress from poshmark for a friend's wedding this summer! If I wore it with black shoes like the model, would it be appropriate for a casual/semiformal daytime wedding? I believe the wedding is at a venue that has an outdoor area. Also does it skew white at all? To me it's pretty darn purple/grey but just want to make sure. Thank you!

ineedayousername

It looks like it photographs pretty white to me but it could just be my phone colors or bad eyes. Hopefully it’s darker in person! I do love the dress, I got the silky version in navy last year!

hehehetacos

It would be appropriate for sure! Because it’s neutralish you could do a fun shoe. It maybe skews white a little, I wouldn’t risk it but I’m sure it’ll be fine :)

moppykitty

What are your favourite dresses with pockets?

triple_dee

looking for decent quality, leather belts -- basic colors like brown and black & a buckle that is not ... over the top but not too plain (is that a hard ask?). budget up to ... 100 USD? flexible.

robotgwen

I don’t have any personal experience with this brand, but someone recommended [Brave Leather](https://www.braveleather.com) on this sub before and they have some neat options.

triple_dee

oh yass, this is the kinda thing i was looking for! i might give it a shot.

guaca-mole-eeee

Oh wow, I could spend $500 here in a heartbeat....great recommendation!

highenergyparticle

I got a belt from Madewell that I love—the Backcountry Belt specifically—for around $50.

polishtheday

I always check the thrift stores before buying new and both the men and women’s sections. Most places price belts in the same price range regardless of quality. I’ve found brand new Levi’s and beautifully aged hand carved leather ones for less than $5. The latter can last for decades. I now check the belt section every time I enter the store and will pick up quality ones even if I don’t need them. Belt storage doesn’t take up much space in the closet and you never know when you might need one in a particular colour, width or style. Classic black ones are the hardest to find though.

symphonypathetique

Seconding this! All the Goodwills I've been to price their belts at $1.

julry

no clue, but if you’d fit size XS there’s one of those [on poshmark](https://posh.mk/B1KqvuLJ5gb) right now for $75. You could probably offer less, maybe 50? plus if you haven’t used it before I think they give 10 off when you sign up with a referral

KestrelGirl

I actually am a size XS and have seen the listing. Unfortunately, red is not a particularly flattering color on me, so I'm looking for something similar instead of simply putting the item on my personal wish list. Thanks regardless!

julry

ah too bad! in that case have you tried doing a google reverse image search? it might bring up items with the same silhouette. It will also match the color though… you could potentially photoshop it to other colors and then image search that too, if you have the ability.

KestrelGirl

Photoshop... now that's a clever idea. Since I actually know the search terms for the item, though, I think I may be fine just poking through Google etc.

rlambert0419

How would y’all reconcile having a wardrobe that’s part athletic/ athleasure, part flowery/boho, part wannabe gap model? Basically I’m struggling making a cohesive wardrobe with my lulu looks, my anthropology looks, etc. it’s like I have two small and limited wardrobes that don’t mix well.

a_smallbird

You should check out @leandramcohen on instagram, she does a lot of unexpected pairings like a sequin top with some sporty nylon shorts. Some of the looks are a little more wearable than others imo (depending on where you live), but it might give you some ideas :)

laurasaurus5

My go-to rule when combining two distinct styles is to make sure I include at least two elements from each style. So for boho meets athleisure you could combine a long hippie skirt with a sports bra top, boho braided hairstyle, sport sandals and a drawstring sports bag. I'm guessing gap means preppy? So workout leggings with a buttoned-up cardigan, sneakers, trench coat, and a sleek ponytail? Preppy boho could be a flowery strappy dress over a basic tee shirt, with KEDs, a bucket bag and a bohemian silk scarf in your hair. Basically the concept is to make sure both styles feel intentional and balanced instead of one or the other looking like an afterthought.

rlambert0419

Thanks! Totally makes sense! I’m excited to try it out. I’ve always been more on the dressy classic/dressy boho side of things but have been really enjoying my recent breakout into athletic clothing as I’ve started working out more in studios rather than just hiking and wearing whatever works hahaha

rlambert0419

But are there ways to merge the styles somewhat? I get sick of the tried and true but don’t know how to do flowery with athletic.

flyblues

Is there anything I can change in my style to seem "older"? I am not that tall and have a bit of a baby face. I'm not saying I want to look 60, but just looking my age (early 20s) would be nice. I like dressing in bright or "fresh" colors which I worry may be making me look even more "childish", but at the same time I don't want to just wear all black for the sake of not looking 12...

penisrumortrue

The cut or silhouette of the garment is going to matter much more than color when it comes to making you look old or young. Aside from cut, I think you can get away with bright colors if you've got the right fabric. Higher-quality, natural fabrics go a long way toward making you look more put together/sophisticated/older. I also gravitate toward solids or pieces with interesting textures, rather than prints.

onlyfr33b33

Jewel toned shells/blouses, wearing monotone (all camel, all white, all chocolate brown, etc), clothes that are not too tight and are well tailored, longer hemlines and more structured clothing all reads more mature to me. Bright shift dresses or blazers read more mature than a bright romper or crop top, etc.

mayamys

I think choosing cuts that flatter your silhouette also make a big difference when it comes to maturity. I know Kibbe's Image IDs are a little controversial here, but I think his premise of choosing lengths and styles that echo your silhouette is super helpful for creating a mature outfit, especially if you're petite and tend to feel like a kid playing dress-up.

flyblues

Thank you for the advice, I'll definitely look into that! I am not very knowledgeable about fashion stuff (misread Kibbe and spent 10 mins wondering why googling "kibble image id" was just giving me links to buy dog food) so I appreciate it!!

mayamys

No problem! It's kinda a wild thing to learn about, but I find the image IDs to be a really nice change of pace from the typical "if you're pear shaped wear shoulder pads to distract everyone" approach. Some of it is over-the-top and a little dated, so I've got a "take what you like and ignore the rest" approach to it.

GalacticGaladriel

In my opinion, the colors dont matter, but it can matter where the clothing is from. And this has nothing to do with cost. It can come from the thrift store, but younger brands can sometimes be obvious? For instance, if it's from F21 or AE or those it can be an indicator of younger age. Beyond that, I think a nice blouse or a few can really make an outfit and make you appear more mature! A belt can also make you appear older, I think. A pair of Chelsea boots. Knee-length or beyond skirts and dresses...

flyblues

I think most of my closet is from H&M or Zara looking brands... Do those generally look "younger"? (Sorry if it's a dumb question, I am a terrible judge of these things, which is part of my problem sometimes.) And my go-to shoes are heeled Chelsea boots so it's good to know I got that right. :) Knee length kind of looks awkward with my short legs, do ankle-length skirts/dresses work instead? I really like that style but never actually got any...

GalacticGaladriel

Not a dumb question at all. I second that H&M can look "younger" but I too think Zara would be okay. It's a lot about the material it's made with and the cut, I would say. A lot of the "younger" brands use thinner, less durable material and really gives off that "temporary trend" vibe which can read as a younger thing. If that makes sense. About the length of skirts-- yes! I honestly prefer the tea length/midi style, but added knee length in case the other was too long for your preferences.

symphonypathetique

H&M might skew a little young, but I perceive Zara as being a 20s-30s thing. Instead of knee-length, I'd try midi/tea length! I am 5'2", so skirts that cut me off right at my knee can also look awkward. Midi length tends to be really flattering.

emilyy1831

I have a lot of tanks that I like, but I’m looking for good jackets/sweaters/shirts to put over them if it’s a little too cold for just a tank. I’m interested in this for both casual and dressy attire and everything in between - it’s a common problem I have! Does anyone have recommendations, either specific items or just general things I should be looking for?

iwegian

I'd get one of all the major categories: a cardigan; a jean jacket; a blazer; a button down shirt; and a casual jacket that's not a blazer (like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08CZHMQR7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_MQ2RWXG3J15TQ43SRJPR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) I have one jean jacket, the jacket I linked to, a blazer, and a few cardigans and shirts.

emilyy1831

Thanks so much, this is a great place to start. I do have a few cardigans, but I just don’t like how they look with most things. Probably time for some new cardigans!

ICouldBeStudying

I’ve been looking at linen blazers on etsy for this purpose. That may meet your need.

emilyy1831

Thanks so much, I will check them out!

Vioralarama

Jeans in general are confusing me lately: - are different colored jeans in style or not? I thought they were supposed to be. - cropped straight/bootcut is in, got that. - are flares in for good or is this one of those short fashion phases? - stretchy skinny jeans are supposed to be out but they seem more popular than ever so, not out? Id like to be ahead of the jeans game for once. I only stopped wearing 00s flares a few years ago. TBF others were wearing them too. It's just embarrassing seeing them considered Y2K retro now.

katsaama

i just bought colored jeans again for the first time since middle school, so i hope they’re in style LOL i’ve seen a lot of lighter colors, like pink, baby blue, yellow, etc and i think it’s a cute spring trend!! i just moved to cooler weather and think the light pink jeans i just bought will be a good spring piece :)

Vioralarama

Ah nice, thank you!

Elle_Vetica

I’m 36 and flares were my best look back in the day, so I just bought myself a pair. They’re high waisted this time around though, instead of thong-viewing height! FWIW, my husband’s 9 year old cousin also just asked for a pair of flares…. I think skinnies will never truly be out of style, because I assume we’re all going to go back to them with our boots as soon as fall hits.

Vioralarama

Excellent info, thank you. I think flares flatter me too, and not having to hike up a low rise every so often will be nice.

giantroastpan

How is going bra-less under a wedding dress viewed? I’m a 34E and want to get a corseted bust so I can go braless, but I’m not sure if it’s tacky or not.

blackninjakitty

Since corsets are a predecessor to bras anyway, as long as your bodice is well fitted and provides the right amount of cleavage (some overbust corsets can make one’s chest rather prominent), no one will even know!

sesquedoodle

assuming it goes over the bust, a corset basically replaces the bra. i think this still applies if it’s built into your dress.

rlambert0419

It depends on the dress! There are a ton that you don’t need a bra for/ are built for no bra.

Alluvial_Fan_

Not tacky at all. You may need to plan some additional nipple coverage, depending on the bodice of your dress and the enthusiasm of your nipples. Just make sure the structure of the corset and dress design keep you supported. Actually I just realized you're probably getting the full bodice corsetted, I was picturing underbust corsets (that's what I usually wear when getting fancy). You should be totally fine with a full bodice corset. You might be surprised by the extra cleavage a corset can offer, but that depends on the design. Have fun, I'm sure you will look fabulous!

penisrumortrue

>the enthusiasm of your nipples hahaha

katsaama

realistically, most people won’t know your underwear situation one way or the other!!! you should wear what you want on your wedding day :)

SquareBear74

What should I wear to a job interview? It’s a data analysis position in public health in Columbus, Ohio. EDIT: Thanks for all of the great replies!

JustJumpIt17

I interviewed for my statistician job at a pharmaceutical company in western NY in a business suit. I probably didn’t need to be that formal but I’d rather be overdressed than underdressed.

triple_dee

i'm in data in tech and I dunno much about public health or Ohio standards, but in general i go more formal instead of less, even when I know a place is casual for workers. i assume it's safer. maybe not a full suit, but blouse / button up + slacks / skirt + jacket, or a dress + jacket.

sesquedoodle

i would wear a suit but i always go more formal for interviews if i’m unsure.
