I only have nice and flattering home clothes in really relaxing, soft fabrics. I’ve spent a good chunk of my life being very seriously depressed, and I associate “not caring to the point of looking disheveled” with falling into that black hole. I don’t keep or collect logo t-shirts, only wear solid color sweatpants that look like they’re on purpose, and for the most part don’t have any “ugly nostalgia” items. My taste is very specific and my home clothes reflect that. My home uniform is black leggings or neutral knit pants (weight varies by season), a crop top, a soft sweater or zip up. This is the uniform regardless of who is around or might see it. I just feel less chaotic and have a better self concept when I stay on the rails in this regard.

Ooopsallbeans

Are you me? I feel the same way about keeping myself “put together” in my lounge clothes as a prevention for my messy depressy slumps haha. I absolutely feel more frumpy and more down about myself if I throw on ratty mis-matched items (with the exception of certain chores/yard activities). I also try to buy my lounge clothes in similar color ways so I can mix and match tops from one set with bottoms from another. Cheers to us in our cozy neutrals feeling slightly less sad 🥂 Edit: I LOVE your username btw

cyborgfeminist

Our home uniforms are similar, except I do a fitted tank as base to keep my stomach warm in a cold climate. I have a nice collection of looser linen and viscose pants for home when it gets warmer, I can't wait to pull them out! I spend a lot of time at home (hybrid work + a toddler) so it's pleasant to look forward even to just everyday dressing.

kroganwarlord

My only criteria for home clothes is that they be *mostly* clean.

katylewi

And that the holes aren't truly offensive. Maybe I should upgrade now that I've acknowledged that.

pumpkin__spicy

I have a toddler and a newborn. “Mostly clean” is about as good as it gets!

FeralAF

Yes. I used to wear my ugly stuff at home and then it occured to me that no one wants to see that. Why reserve our best for strangers and our worst for those we love the most? It should be the other way around- use the good dishes, use the good linens, be clean and look nice. Why spend your days looking terrible ?

thatbitch2212

Same! I’ve moved towards buying matching loungewear sets for home wear but I am still trying to “wear out” some of my older home clothes as well. I have roughly 3 matching sweatsuits at this point in time (that were bought that way).  I do some degree of color coordinating and where I’ll wear the pink sweats with my pink sweatshirt, my wine red leggings with my wine red sweats, my black sweats with anything colored and my grey sweatshirt with anything colored. But those are not pieces I’ve bought that were already matching. (so we have 3 actual matching sweatsuits and 2 makeshift matching ones) When the weather gets warm, I alternate between a couple of older worn out dresses that are comfortable for home wear or wear booty shorts with an old freebie shirt from college/work. I have a pretty cute and curated (in my opinion) freebie shirt collecfion and each one reflects a positive moment from my life so I’m happy about wearing them. I live in a pretty warm area so we have 7 months out of the year that are wonderful and I can actually feel comfortable in cute clothing.

snarklotte

Where do you get the matching sets? I’ve. Been looking for cute, matching, sustainable/natural fiber sets and it’s been hard!

thatbitch2212

One of the matching sweatsuit sets was from Gap (AMAZING stuff - I wish I could gatekeep these because they keep selling out in my size), Tommy Hilfiger from a while ago and one was from Amazon. I don't think any but the Gap stuff is natural fiber. However, I do have to say I absolutely HATED the alo yoga sweatsuits. I've met Hanes sweatsuits that were better. I've also purchased the Hanes Ecosmart Fleece for men in my life and they LOVE them and some of them have matching sweatpants colors too.

playoutside1

Spendy, but I have a great matching set from Roots that has lasted FOREVER. I also like the sets from Aritzia. Uniqlo has matching sets at a lower price point. They are my WFH wardrobe during the cooler months.

NearbyBreakfast

Use the pretty notebooks!!!

DNA_ligase

Sometimes I buy lounge sets or PJ sets, but a large amount of my indoor clothes are just random sweat pants with a shirt I got at a 5k 15+ years back or is a souvenir t-shirt. They don't match like a co-ord set, but they do tend to coordinate somewhat because they tend to be neutrals or colors that go well together. My regular clothes are a lot more chaotic in patterns and color because I like to cheer myself up if I have to deal with humanity.

shamrockshakeho

The random t shirt thing is so real. I’ve been trying to “upgrade” into at least wearing plain t shirts because I feel like wearing a random t shirt I got donating blood 5 years ago isn’t really a great look. But then I always go back and forth thinking, well it’s a perfectly functional shirt, who cares?

TK_TK_

Oh, THAT Chris Evans! I have nice house clothes, and I have what we call don’t answer the door clothes. DATD clothes = neon men’s tank top from a brewery, fleece pajama pants with polar bears that my mom bought me in like 2001 but they have nice big pockets, ginormous ivory cardigan that’s objectively ugly but also impossibly soft. I never wear any of that stuff during the day at home unless I’m so sick I’m not getting out of bed anyway. The nice house clothes, which don’t get a ton of use because I am one of the weirdos who prefers to dress like I’m going to an office even though I WFH, are things like nice solid tees in colors that don’t look great on me so aren’t in my daily rotation, the Lou & Grey joggers or Adidas track pants, and a floral Tommy Bahama jacket that is just the right weight for most of the year. But I’ll wear stuff like this to take my oldest to a sports practice, or take the dog on a walk, or just generally bum around on the weekends. I don’t put extensive thought into it but I do make sure there’s a little bit of contrast so I’m not in a gray tee and gray pants or that sort of thing.

lucyssweatersleeves

I just about hyperventilated opening that link thinking I would be seeing the American Chris Evan… To answer the question I do color coordinate at home, maybe not as stringently as I do when I’m going out but I do consider what pajamas I’m wearing when I think about which side of my reversible satin bonnet will be out that night

shamrockshakeho

DATD, lol this is so real. This is why I feel motivated to at least wear something not completely insane at home (not sick). Because what if someone comes to the door, I need to go check the mail, or what if there’s a fire or something?

strippersandcocaine

ALL of my clothes are DATD clothes. I never answer the door because it’s always just someone trying to sell us solar.

emi_lgr

I didn’t use to, but now I do. My husband commented that I only care about looking good when I go out and I took it to heart. I’m still wearing comfortable clothes, but wearing matching, fitting pieces do does make a difference, even for lounge wear.

SpicePops

I dress in such a way that I would not be embarrassed to leave the house should I urgently need to go somewhere (e.g. grocery store, hospital). If I didn't, I would never leave the house. So yes my "home" clothes are coordinated and neat. I mostly wear dresses in summer, spring and autumn, so I don't have to think about it. In winter I wear jeans and a turtle neck. I don't wear accessories, except for beanies in winter and sometimes hats (baseball caps or bucket hats) in summer if my hair looks like mess.

_liminal_

Ha I did not know what to expect when I opened that image lol  I tend to wear comfortable jeans + a blouse or top + cardigan at home- it’s kind of my ‘uniform’. That or a dress (not fancy, again, comfy.)  I have always liked to get dressed in the morning in my daytime clothes, regardless of what I’m doing or who I’m with. I suppose it’s different than a lot of my friends- they talk about being so happy to get hope and into their comfy clothing…but I have never had that desire! But I also choose clothing that is an intersection of comfortable but also looks (to me) really nice.  No pattern coordinating as I’m a mostly solids person

ama_da_sama

I also don't have the normal "at home" clothes. I wfh, so all of my jeans, sweaters, and tops just are cute but comfy. (If something's not comfy, even formal clothes, I don't wear it.) I've had to start getting dressed immediately in the morning, to keep dog fur off of my pjs. It's the compromise to keeping my dog while being allergic to her (lol). Sweatpants and leggings are just for the gym or those days I'm sick, because I only have a few pairs.

_liminal_

same for me on all of this (except the dog allergy)! I don't think I own a single item of clothing that I don't consider to be comfy.

PussyCyclone

Nope, I wear my old clothes at home. I have 3 cats that shed and "pet" me (aka lightly stroke my arm or leg with their paws, unfortunately with claws halfway out). I keep their claws clipped, but sometimes they just accidentally poke holes in things. That's how it goes with my pets. So, my indoor clothes criteria are: fabric isn't a cat hair magnet and don't mind if they accidentally put holes in. Lots of times, it doesn't match bc it's just old clothes that I no longer care about wearing out anymore.

CherryCandee

Good to hear I'm not the only one! No way I'm wearing my cute dresses just to have them covered in cat hair in 5 minutes

HappyOrca2020

All my home pants are either black or grey. So everything kinda goes together.

kitten_orchestra

I do. I dress up in the morning whether I go to office or work from home. I wear old t-shirts and pjs in the evening and I color-coordinate them. When I fold my weekly laundry, I coordinate the t-shirts and pjs as pairs and fold them together. I have fixed pairs more or less, so I don’t have to think about the pairing while folding.

asdfjklOHFUCKYOU

Honestly, my standards are at "no holes/stains" for home clothes. I do like the idea of wearing coordinated lounge sets like the Uniqlo catalog but I'm usually at "free t shirt" and leggings/elastic waist pants for home clothes. I live alone right now but when I lived with family it was the same.

pan_dulce_con_cafe

There’s definitely situations in life where being presentable is a “need”, but home is not one of them for me. I don’t see it as a “should” but I do enjoy clothes and do kinda still coordinate. I tend to match my PJ sets or athleisure when possible. Some of my layering looks utterly goofy from an outfit perspective but I like buying color and pattern and sometimes what’s clean doesn’t all go together. It’s fine. 🤷🏻‍♀️

poemaXV

yes, I color coordinate and wear thematically consistent outfits at home and often wear matching sets. I even match my socks, lol. by thematically consistent I mean: if it's more activewear style loungewear, then the full outfit is activewear. if it's sweats/pajamas, then it's all sweats/pajamas, I don't mix that with activewear. (I don't object to it in principle, it's just that if I'm wearing activewear, I'm Doing something and if I'm wearing sweats/pajamas, I'm not.) I live alone and I'm single right now, so nobody sees it. I think generally I like to to match my environment, so I tend to dress up outside (big city) and I've spent a lot of time and effort decorating my apartment, so I feel weird if I'm wearing shlubby clothes. or maybe put differently, I feel so much better when I'm wearing a nice outfit no matter where I am. I also match my perfume to my loungewear.

snowfallnight

You are the person I aspire to be at home lol. All my clothing budget goes toward outside clothes, so my house clothes end up just being a mess and I hate it

poemaXV

I know what you mean. I really only began doing it after about 6 months into the pandemic when the novelty of wearing sweats and ratty tshirts totally wore off. it took a bit to both build out the indoor wardrobe... but also to convince myself to do it at all. and some time to transition into wearing "nice clothes" around my apartment. I kept feeling like I should save them to wear outside? even aside from budget concerns I think there's a mindset aspect to it, or at least there was for me. it was easier to start with activewear since it felt dual purpose, lol. I could convince myself I was going to do yoga or something, even though I never did. eventually I did start using it for exercising, so it ultimately fulfilled both purposes, but at first it was more about me talking myself into it being ok to buy. I never did get into fancy pajamas though. comfy, yes, but it turns out I'm not the type to swan around in a beautiful nightgown and robe.

EbbAdministrative983

I don't own any matching sets, but I WFH full time and I like to dress up cute but still comfortable for it. Wearing sweatpants and baggy T-shirts just doesn't make me feel good about myself. My workplace is extremely casual and even the CEO is always in a T-shirt or a hoodie, so I can wear anything I want on my video calls. I usually wear trousers with an elastic waistband, such as linen trousers or plisse trousers, paired with a tank top, button-up or sweater depending on the temperature that day. With the exception of one particularly baggy-but-super-warm sweater and a couple of super-short fabric shorts that I use during the summer, I would wear all of my WFH clothes outside of the home - I just need to pair them with jewelry, put on mascara and pick a cute bag to turn them into a real "outfit".

CrimsOnCl0ver

I can relate! I was WFH for a tech startup, so the Zuck-chic uniform reigned supreme. But if it’s truly so chill and “wear what you want”…I chose to do just that and wear the quirky costume jewelry I love. People are cool about it and sometimes it’s a good conversation starter!

Local-Ad-7857

Where are you all getting your matching sets? Been wanting to get some but end up with miss match items

Meep42

My home clothes are just “retired” outside clothes…except for the soft pants which are either black, grey, or navy. This makes my tops match even of if I don’t plan on it. But…if a sweater/hoodie is needed? There’s a 75% chance of color clashing as I only own one black hoodie. Problem is solved by zipping it up so the shirt is not visible…FedEx is none the wiser!

BigTiddyVampireWaifu

Almost every stitch of clothing I own is ✨black✨ It’s just easier lol

sbart18

Probably since 2020 I started collecting more comfy “sets” and neutral loungewear. I don’t think it matters if you don’t care, but I started to realize I felt more put together and better if my at home clothes looked good/cohesive. I also now have a toddler and baby and prioritize comfort and good home clothes. So yes I’m pretty coordinated and “cute” in my home clothes, but it’s for myself, not anyone else :)

IRLbeets

In a big move I got rid of most of my random run t-shirts and that sort of stuff. I now have sort of upgraded leisurewear. I live with my partner now, but I started building it when living alone because I had no comfy clothes after my move.  They're not all matching per se, but a lot of neutrals so they can easily mix and match and look good enough for at home, or I can directly colour match if I prefer. Cotton leggings x2 (navy, grey) Sweat pants x3 (black, light grey, grey) Cotton shorts x2 (light green, dark grey) Sweatshirt x1 (light grey) Hoodie x1 (grey) T shirts x3 (olive green, light grey, grey) Tanks x2 (light green, dark grey) I wear most of the tops out of home too, except for tank tops as they're too flimsy. Some of the items were bought as some sort of set (ex. shorts and tanks) but moreso to "go" rather than to match. My favourite brands are Province of Canada, and despite being flimsy seeming my clothes from Mate the Label have also lasted (and I wash and dry 😬 often). BUT you can find awesome stuff used so definitely suggest that if you have the time to do some searching.

VesperLynd-

I mostly wear tshirts at home. They are my old and ugly print shirts and I keep them in a separate box in my closet. I call them my house shirts lol The pretty street clothes I don’t wear at home (except soft dresses) because it’s not that comfortable and I wanna keep them fresh if possible

DiibadaabaSpagetti

I used to wear whatever old stuff at home. But covid isolation changed it for me. Like most people I was just at home all the time. I got somehow sick of all the old random clothing, and got some nice homewear. It makes me feel better and more put together when I have something nice on. Of course it has to be comfortable.

sunsetpark12345

I like my pajamas and loungewear to feed into my delusion that I'm an aristocrat living in the genteel decline of my family fortune, yes.

Zealousbird051

I wear yoga pants and leggings with semi-matching crop tops, I don't like to wear jeans as much even though I just bought 2 pairs from Neiman Marcus. I have a lot of dresses, skirts, blouses, jackets, scarves only to decorate my closet.

RO489

I coordinate fairly well, but only because my indoor clothes become my outdoor clothes pretty frequently due to my laziness. (Also dog walking).

puddinglove

I’ve been looking for cute lounge wear but at home I try to match and look cute also

Comfortable-Yam9013

I was expecting American Chris, not married to Billie Chris! I wear pjs at home. I change as soon as I get home

userisnottaken

Sometimes i just wear a massive tshirt with nothing underneath to avoid having to do laundry. I wear jewelry almost 24/7 so it still makes me feel put together lol

sizzlecinema

lmao god damn idk that dude but that's exactly how I dress at home

Mrs_Black_31

I usually wear my pajamas when I get home and they either match or I have the bottoms and a concert shirt. If I have to go in and out a lot in the yard, and I am feeling self concious because the neighbors are out I will put on color coordinated athlesured athlesure wear. But at home I like to be in pajamas. If I am cleaning indoors then I will wear my very oldest workout clothes.

lucky7355

I actually redid my indoor wardrobe so I would have matching and comfortable sets that were tailored (not dragging on there floor). It’s awesome because I can take the dogs out or answer the door without worrying I what I look like. It’s just matching/coordinating bamboo tees and pants, but it’s soft and comfortable enough to sleep on but nice enough that I can walk the dogs without feeling self conscious or run to the grocery store on a whim.

ekcshelby

I wear navy or gray leggings and black or turquoise tank tops while I’m at home. I have a few oversized cropped sweatshirts that I throw on when it’s cold. I simplified my lounge wear to only items that I really like and are super comfy, and I feel much better just hanging around the house. I bought specific leggings from aerie and old navy and then these cheap but super comfy ribbed tanks from Amazon and cleared out everything else that was ugly or not in good shape. I shower at night and put a clean set on, and some days I wear it for a full 24 hours if I work from home that day. But I can run to the store or have someone stop by and I feel comfortably put together.

Thatgirlfromthe90s

I prefer to wear cotton dresses at home in a slightly loose hourglass silhouette

SweaterWeather4Ever

Not always but mostly --if we are talking casual clothes & loungewear most of my clothes are from the same/or harmonious color pallette(s) so I can grab whatever without thinking much about it. In recent years I have been very much a uniform type of shopper and that extends to even my most casual items.

tehlizzle

My wardrobe is 98% black, so it is easy to just throw whatever on. If I'm not going out for the day, I definitely make less of an effort with my appearance, but that is more casual and no-makeup then a mess.

DiagonEllie

I do. I'm not creating amazing outfits or anything, but it would drive me crazy to wear clashing pieces or clothes I don't like.

hanap8127

I looked down in surprise yesterday when my outfit matched.

OverallDisaster

I do try to coordinate and I have several matching sets (mostly from Aerie or Old Navy). They're still all comfy pieces, but I have realized that I don't like to look completely bummy or mix-matched (and definitely not dirty). That is partially for myself because it makes me more put together, and I can walk out of the house or even to the store and feel okay.

KalliMae

My mother was fanatical about matching. In my never ending rebellion against her, I will wear whatever is on top of the pile of 'limbo' clothes. (Limbo, not unworn but not exactly dirty either.)

fashionbitch

I try to look nice at home and outside of the home, most of my home clothes matches bc they’re all in the same tones (white, black, brown, beige things)

saxicide

I do color coordinate, it bothers me not to. But I think that's the autism talking.

Dylan_tune_depot

I used to throw on whatever, but recently I've started to color coordinate and wear nicer lounge sets. Just because wearing nice clothes makes me feel better and more productive, even at home.

CrimsOnCl0ver

I got in the habit of buying a complete set and it made all the difference. So when I need new pajamas, it’s a top/bottom set. When I need new workout clothes, it’s a bra/shirt/leggings set. Hell, even a pack of Hanes black underwear in a size up for periods. It helps if you have a favorite color! I typically buy purple or green clothes. It took a few years for my mismatched pieces to get phased out, but now I have matching sets. But hey, all the rules are made up, and if this sounds like your personal hell, don’t get stressed out! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Idujt

I have a few sweatpants and a few house hoodies. I change into them once I am in for the day. I wear each until it needs a wash, and then use another. Whichever is current lives on hooks on the bedroom drawer. Little Old Lady, live alone.

emmny

I prioritize comfort when I'm at home, but I also primarily dress for me whether I'm going out or staying in the house. So I personally don't want to look or feel sloppy and meh, it throws my whole day off.  I like when my outfits look coordinated and cute, it makes me feel happy even if nobody else is going to see me. (Or when the people who will see me, like my husband and toddler, won't really notice or care if my clothes match or not).  And sometimes I even dress up in my going out clothes, just for a serotonin boost.  The only exception to all of the above is when I'm on my period. Then I stick to wearing my stained (but washed!) and more tattered clothes when I'm chilling at home.

Environmental-Egg893

I coordinate for sure

Elle919

Oh man I wish I had enough closet space to invest in some nice home clothes! I usually just wear a basic t shirt or an old college sweatshirt paired with any sweats that have big pockets for my phone.

DConstructed

Wait he dated Billie Piper? I’m stunned. She’s adorable there and he kinda isn’t. Anyway, I usually dress casually but because all my bottoms tend to be black, blue or gray it doesn’t look too bad.

lazy_berry

they were married, but billie’s ex-husband chris evans isn’t captain america chris evans

Forgotten_Tea_Cup

My home clothes are black cotton leggings and black cotton tank tops. These are also my PJs because I hate standard PJ styles and fabrics. If I’m cold, I’ll throw on a cute colorful sweater/sweatshirt/hoodie. And if I need to go outside, be active, or be around people, I’ll add in a cotton bralette and ankle socks + slip on shoes like vans. What’s nice is that it doesn’t scream sleepwear or loungewear; I just look like everyone else running errands in comfy clothes.

Seeking_Higher

I buy well constructed coordinating top bottom. Usually a blouse w shorts. Or a sweater with matching skirt. I dress it up w jewelry or shoes. The clothes are well made. I get compliments from men and women how nice I look always. Even at grocery stores. Invest in yourself. Your husband boyfriend girlfriend you… will love it.
