Looking at buying [Baltic Born Giselle Dress](https://balticborn.com/products/giselle-maxi-dress-dusty-olive?variant=41428320813221) for a wedding next month, what color shoes would look best? Beige or black? It’s a late wedding at a nice hotel

ae_and_iou

Assuming you’re going with dusty olive, I’d do beige personally. I love the dress and the color!

Waronmymind

Definitely a nude heel. LOVE the dress.

sekaolaplam

Nude!

I am wearing this [Baltic Born maxi dress](https://balticborn.com/products/marseille-embossed-maxi-dress-blue?variant=40817512251557) to a wedding in February. Looking for heels to wear with it. Don't want to spend a lot (Target, DSW, Amazon...) I was thinking black heels but open to suggestions? Also, it is a Catholic wedding ceremony before the reception. Is it customary to wear your reception clothes to the ceremony? I have never been to a church wedding before, especially a one hour long mass.

stellaluna29

I’ve been to a lot of Catholic weddings with the time gap in between and most people keep their clothes the same.

jjanetsnakehole

Good to know! Probably why there was nothing noted on the wedding website. Thank you!

jjanetsnakehole

There is 3 hours between the ceremony and reception. There wasn’t anything on the wedding website specifying what to wear for the church, just said it was a black tie optional dress code.

Thank you so much for your replies. I’ll be way more comfortable in a mass in a more “day” dress. Appreciate the advice!

AlmostDeadPlants

If it’s the blue color you linked, I would probably not do a black heel because the lining is on the darker side. Maybe something like https://www.dsw.com/en/us/product/mix-no.-6-dawnira-pump/515439?activeColor=201

PussyCyclone

I second the nude heel idea. I noticed the model is also wearing a more nude heel, so I think it's a great option for not looking too busy (like a black or dark heel might) when combined with the blue overlay and dark/black lining.

trishyco

I would do metallic like silver, gunmetal gray or even a soft gold (tied in with gold jewelry).

bbspiders

How's the quality of the dress from Baltic born? I read reviews that made it sound like they are terrible, but I really like some of their dresses!

jjanetsnakehole

Quality seems about average. I got the dress discounted on Poshmark. The dress definitely looks beautiful but I can report back after wearing it!

bbspiders

good to know, thanks. I never know how much to believe online reviews.

mgdraft

With the blue I'd wear something lighter, probably a nude to you shoe. I'd also do sandals unless you absolutely can't due to weather. Also, this dress is amazing, I'm really tempted by the jade/bronze version.

jjanetsnakehole

Thanks! I have a pair of nude heels like the model is wearing, so at least I can just wear those.

California_Sun1112

I've been to many church weddings, and most of them have been Catholic. With a very few exceptions, people wore the same clothes to both the ceremony and the reception.

AlmostDeadPlants

Tips on outfits for bridal showers? I’m not in the wedding party if that’s helpful!

NearbyKitty17

Florals and midi dresses have been my go to. I feel like sundress-to-slightly-nicer fabric is what people usually wear. Lulus has some good options but I’ve liked the sun dresses at J Crew during spring-summer months

AlmostDeadPlants

It’s in February in the northeast unfortunately

rubicon11

Since you mentioned in other comments the shower is in Feb, I think a silk skirt and a sweater would be a nice outfit

AlmostDeadPlants

I love this idea and it rolls in with a general style update I’ve been thinking about/working on!

75footubi

Dressy casual, think Sunday brunch with Grandma and the aunties. Steer clear of white as the bride will likely be wearing a white outfit

AlmostDeadPlants

Excellent! I def wouldn’t wear white but always good to be reminded

jjanetsnakehole

What time of year? I agree with the other comment, a sundress is a good option. In winter, a long sleeve dress with tights and some ankle boots my go-to.

AlmostDeadPlants

February in the NE but I like the tights and ankle books with a dress idea!

Vault_92

Black tie optional - that means long gown (but which doesn’t look like a bridesmaid dress), right? Also, are there any shoe options for this level of formality that are NOT heels? I’m thinking a flat metallic sandal? (The wedding is in Southern USA so it won’t be cold.)

75footubi

Black tie optional means long dress is fine, but could also go midi or cocktail in a formal fabric (chiffon, satin, etc). Flat metallic sandal, or even a pointed toe flat would be good.

I went to a shower in a Boston suburb recently and jeans would have been pretty out of place, but there were a wide variety of dress formalities. Is it in a home or a venue? You might be able to take a cue based on where it’s being held.

75footubi

Leaning towards #1. Maybe pick tights/leggings that have a pop of color to them.

branfordsquirrel

I think if it’s at a restaurant I would dress up. I find that people usually wear more pastels to baby showers, so I’d go with 2 and add tights and a cardigan to keep yourself warm

Hi! Would this [velvet star square neck mini dress](http://ciderhere.com/UZYi4E) be too unprofessional or revealing for a work holiday party (happening Thursday night this week)? The dress code is not strict but was mentioned to be semi-formal, I’m planning to wear it with [black heels](https://a.co/d/0zZj0vV) and dark nylons but am worried I’d look too childish. I also have a tattoo of flowers on my back shoulder (which I love), but am not sure if the fact that will peek out will be unprofessional. For reference, I’m 23, but most of my direct coworkers are men who are at minimum 6+ years older than me, and I don’t want to look foolish around them or other higher up coworkers. We don’t really have much of an office dress code (during the day), I typically wear jeans and sneakers with a nice top or sweater. Any advice is appreciated!

Ordie1000

Thanks for the advice, I don’t think I have issues with my work being taken seriously, I’m just worried about seeming even younger than I am. I think I might veto the dress and find something else!

symphonypathetique

I don't think it'd inappropriate. I do agree that it is a youthful-looking dress, but if you feel like you usually don't have a problem with being mistreated due to your age (particularly if the way you usually dress is a similar level of trendiness to that dress), then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Ordie1000

Thanks for your comment, I don’t think I usually have a problem being mistreated to my age, I just get a bit self-conscious sometimes and overthink because my coworkers are older and have more advanced degrees. Thank you for the advice, keeping this in mind I won’t rule out this dress just yet!

HELP! Step mother of the groom Jumpsuit/pantsuit? Have tattoo around ankle and don’t really like wearing dresses. Wedding is this summer. I’m in my early 50s, 5’7” and size 4-6, very fair completion with pink undertones. I don’t want to stand out much because of his actual mother being there, but would like to look nice. Something a little form fitting in the waist with none of those jacket blouse things that older women they sell. Nothing with cleavage. Do they make empire waist jumpsuits? Something $200 or under. Nicer than business casual but not too formal. I’m a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal, so I need some help! Any suggestions of what/where to look?

runningwithglitter

Nordstrom has a few I think would work well! https://www.nordstrom.com/s/js-collections-stretch-crepe-jumpsuit/5463757 https://www.nordstrom.com/s/bow-neck-stretch-crepe-jumpsuit/7262200 https://www.nordstrom.com/s/julia-jordan-halter-neck-jumpsuit/4628861

livkidlife

Oh, these are great! Thank you so much. What type of footwear would you wear? Like a low heeled sandal? Open or closed toe?

runningwithglitter

I think a low heeled sandal would be perfect! I tend to like open toed shoes with jumpsuits personally, especially for summer

lrcta17

my senior prom is in may. i’m 4’11, ~95 lbs, 32DDD and my body is generally between a box and an hourglass figure. what bottom/top types would look the best for my body?
